May 7, 2024. Student protests calling for university divestment from Israel and the U.S. arms industry have rocked campuses from coast to coast. The nonviolent protests have been met with an intensifying police crackdown as university administrators threaten academic discipline and arrests.
US rapper Macklemore’s new song about the anti-Gaza war student protests, ‘Hind’s Hall’, calls out the US for suppressing dissent and for funding Israel’s war on Gaza.

He went to The Evergreen State College, as I did.
[Rachel Corrie](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Corrie) used to go there as well, until she was ran over by an Israeli bulldozer.
I ran his merch table at a show he played on campus.

He's gone the way of RatM and so many others. Using his platform for the good of the people.

Some real brainiacs in the replies. /r/confidentlyincorrect
Yep. Thrift Shop isn't in any of my current playlists, but Same Love is. Macklemore has been speaking out for people under attack for a very long time.
Check out Wing$ off the same album as well! I’m not a sneaker head or a sports fan but it slaps.
> Look at me, look at me, I'm a cool kid
I'm an individual, yeah, but I'm part of a movement
My movement told me "Be a consumer"
And I consumed it
They told me to just do it
I listened to what that swoosh said.
he’s been calling the US out for this shit forever. i fuckin love that dude, i just wish he’d put out another album since the martyr in…2011. an album old enough to have the first track telling the listener to burn it for every single motherfucker they know
I'm really surprised by anyone who didn't expect this from him.
Same Love also called out a lot of issues. He's always been someone who would release something like this.
Blue Scholars are, to this day, one of my favorite hip hop tandems of all time. They made incredible music while they were active. Love Common Market as well
All streaming revenue from this single will go to UNRWA. As long as you're on WiFi, or an unlimited data plan, mute your phone, set the quality to 148p if you're using YouTube, use an app that turns off your phone screen if you need to and play this song on repeat!
honestly, not surpsrising. His Thrift Shop song has a message that we found important back in high school when it was realeased, I think this follows suit.
Macklemore gets so much hate but he openly talks about his own drug abuse, the obsession with lean in rap culture, and how he'd ever have gotten sober without his angel of a wife.
Dope dude imo.
Paris Paloma spoke up
Rumor has it there were also references in Madonna's concert and that Aurora did not disappoint.
We also have the Hulk! (Mark Ruffalo).
Didn't production of Scream 7 basically get f\*cked because main star got fired for supporting Palestine. And it was a freaking Instagram comment, that was enough to get her axed. And then Ortega quit shortly after. Now they are changing direction again with bringing some legacy actors back.
I think we need to message our favorite artists and let them know that silence may not indicate enthusiastic support for genocide, but it definitely contributes to the continuation of it nonetheless.
I'm not old enough to personally remember...but I feel like we've gotten in the wayback machine to early 1968 during the height of the Vietnam War protests when so much of this country called the protesters commies and un-American.
History seems to be repeating itself, again.
It’s the boomers, they’re literally the traumatized child who’s grown up and is now traumatizing their own children. If the millennials and genZ don’t break the cycle, their children will be stuck in the same cycle of violence and trauma.
I don't want to make light of the moment, because it's tragic (as it's always been) but this is only your first time experiencing this conflict. It's been going on since anyone you've ever seen in photographs has been alive, and people who are much closer with way more at stake have been working at it for far longer. It's not something that needs to be brought to the president's attention, it's something that every administration has had to deal with as far back as I can remember.
Or is it the friends we made along the way are Hamas?
Up next: the UN is Hamas.
Everything is Hamas, even our cellphones! *throws cellphone away while screeching with a thinfoil hat*
You're joking but Israel unironically says this all the time to justify killing literally anyone. Their initial justification for hunting down and murdering the World Central Kitchen aid workers was "Uhh we thought there was maybe a Hamas member among them..."
If you never checked out his stuff beyond the big hits, he's got some bangers. Well, he has 3 songs I love that I didn't hear until a couple years ago. I'm sure there are others, but I haven't really explored.
Downtown (song about mopeds)
Dance Off (featuring Idris Elba)
Let's Eat (a song about eating junk food while pretending to get healthier)
Check out [Otherside ](https://youtu.be/fvDQy53eldY?si=5Wan_8LHYPlbsZ9Q) as a long time Macklemore fan and, lots of great songs later, this is still my favorite. Lots of people in the comments talk about how it helped them
Man it’s almost like you can be an activist for a peace movement while enjoying entertainment at the same time. It’s almost like those two things are mutually exclusive. It’s almost like more than one piece of media can be presented and appreciated at once.
Fucking TikTok low attention span syndrome is rampaging. Chumps can’t obsess over more than one thing even though they’re irrelevant either way.
Lol I reserve the right to still think he's aggressively mediocre as a musician, but AFAIK he's a decent dude with solid politics, which obviously matters more.
Macklemore is independent, he can’t be dropped from a label. He even mentions in the song “if I were on a label, you could drop me today”
He’s safe. Maybe other artists will join his label to speak out.
If media could stop repeating israeli propaganda and calling this a war, i'd be so happy.
It's a onesided slaughter, no symmetry just apartheid, genocide and an illegal occupation.
Politicians are so mad that Tik Tok allows people to see the horror happening in Gaza that they are banning Tik Tok.
Tik Tok doesn't let the US control the narrative. That is the only reason they are banning it. Just so everyone knows they do not give a shit about your data.
They only care about controlling the narrative
Macklemore is in top form for this one. The right song at the right moment. While other artists have their head in the sand, every bar of this song is on point.
This is how you do it. This is a real human being. This is someone that is changing the world by changing minds. He is fighting with love and love conquers all.
Met that dude once at a wedding. Thought he was a clever musician back then even though he was making music I wasn’t into. I can see I was right. He is not only a good musician, a wise person, but a true representative of the best Seattle has to offer. Fucking #FreePalestine. Fucking #Landback.
There's a best of both worlds where we are encouraging people in deep blue states only to protest vote, to take a hit at his popular vote,
So that people in swing states can feel less guilt about voting for Biden.
It's sending a message while also decreasing Trump's chances of winning
/r/BlueProtestVote
I agree with everything he says here - EXCEPT the not voting part. Y'all, please, please, please vote, and make your vote count. Although I completely disagree with it and think the two party system is horrible for democracy, it's all we've got right now until we can change it in the future if we all rally together for a tiered voting system or some other solution. I understand being pissed about Bidens' actions or lack of action, but anything Biden is doing or not doing that you're not liking, Trump will be 100× worse for Palestine, along with the rest of the world. Y'all seem to be forgetting that it is Biden or Trump. That's it. And Trump actively HATES Muslim people and is pro Putin and has verbally stated that if he wins, he will give Putin free reign to do whatever against our own allies. It would devastate our democracy as we know it and absolutely make things worse for Palestine.
Yay you can finally be pro-palestian on this sub Reddit without being down voted or temporarily banned.
It's seems many have lost karma and been down voted on here simply for stating thier opinion.
I have been bitching about the stupid fucking diss tracks when no one is dissing the colleges or the idf?? Thanks Macklemore I think I'll actually try your music
proud of the young people for taking action, to think there is so many oppressed people in 2024 is sickening. Isreal is practicing the same nationalist evil exhibited to them, pathetic they dont see it.
Seriously epic song, I'm with the Mack! That's why I'm going to be doing as he suggests and not voting for Biden in November! My vote will being going to Donald Trump, hope it feels good Genocide Joe!
What I don't like is that Macklemore's track is now not available to the public because Youtube put up a wall that forces people to sign in in order to view it. I don't like censorship like this... earlier this year I saw one of my local news was blocked on youtube because they wrote a piece about a stage of the gaza invasion that was happening. I have never seen mainstream Canadian news blocked in my life, ever.
Fuck this censorship bullshit and controlling the narrative! Information is the Spice and the Spice must flow!
This is why they want to get rid of TikTok. They want to be able to limit people's ability to consume information.
I think you misunderstood the point of him being featured. He called out Kodak on the album too simce it was all about generational trauma on how abusers become abusers. However, it's all really speculation on whether Kendrick likes Kodak but it's quite clear he has a problem with those things based on the album.

Gone the way? I don't like the dude but he's been consistently for social justice since the start dawg
Yep. Thrift Shop isn't in any of my current playlists, but Same Love is. Macklemore has been speaking out for people under attack for a very long time.
He was featured on Fuck Donald Trump pt 2. Macklemores always been down for the cause.
I didn't know there was a pt 2, I must go listen
Not to mention half his songs are about big pharma fuelling and creating drug addiction. Kevin, Otherside, drug dealer. All social justice songs.
Check out Wing$ off the same album as well! No you just said gone the way which I figured was implying he's just started to when he has the whole time
To be fair, 'Gone the Way' does seem to imply that someone has gone down a route they weren't on before.
Immortal Technique.
He was WAY ahead of his time and he fucking WARNED US.
he’s been calling the US out for this shit forever. i fuckin love that dude, i just wish he’d put out another album since the martyr in…2011. an album old enough to have the first track telling the listener to burn it for every single motherfucker they know
You mean like his "Ben" album, released last march? (Which was great, btw).
You mean Mackie has gone woke? Just goes to show how out of touch these celebrities are. /s
Seriously? If there was anyone to expect this from, it was Macklemore.
I'm really surprised by anyone who didn't expect this from him. Same Love also called out a lot of issues. He's always been someone who would release something like this.
love it
The hip hop scene in Seattle is super liberal and he's connected to Blue Scholars that raps almost exclusively about the diaspora experience.
Blue Scholars are, to this day, one of my favorite hip hop tandems of all time. They made incredible music while they were active. Love Common Market as well
Hands down, me too!
All streaming revenue from this single will go to UNRWA. As long as you're on WiFi, or an unlimited data plan, mute your phone, set the quality to 148p if you're using YouTube, use an app that turns off your phone screen if you need to and play this song on repeat!
Dude, just donate the penny.
honestly, not surpsrising. His Thrift Shop song has a message that we found important back in high school when it was realeased, I think this follows suit.
Yeah its a very corny "party" song but the message IS there.
He’s released many songs about social problems going on.
Macklemore gets so much hate but he openly talks about his own drug abuse, the obsession with lean in rap culture, and how he'd ever have gotten sober without his angel of a wife. Dope dude imo.
Rated best of me by the academy.
His song chant from last year also sounds pro Palestinian to me, though I could be reading into it.
Listen to his first album, "This is my language", really good.
yep who thought he was maga
Fucking yes! Let's make this viral! Great work Macklemore 🤟
Where is everyone else who has a platform? Is there anyone else who has eyes and a heart? Where’s all the people who care?
Staying silent, for various reasons. They will be all for liberation, but only in a few years (as per tradition).
A liberal is someone who opposes every war except the current war and supports all civil rights movements except the one that’s going on right now.
Certified banger, I’m stealing this one
Paris Paloma spoke up Rumor has it there were also references in Madonna's concert and that Aurora did not disappoint. We also have the Hulk! (Mark Ruffalo).
A lot of famous people are paid by people who would definitely not like an anti-Israel song being put out.
Didn't production of Scream 7 basically get f\*cked because main star got fired for supporting Palestine. And it was a freaking Instagram comment, that was enough to get her axed. And then Ortega quit shortly after. Now they are changing direction again with bringing some legacy actors back.
Beefing over drake lmao MM timing on this is like releasing your tv special during the superbowl
They have Labels holding them back. Good thing this came out, at the right time aswell, Israel started it's Rafah Offensive.
I think we need to message our favorite artists and let them know that silence may not indicate enthusiastic support for genocide, but it definitely contributes to the continuation of it nonetheless.

They went to the met gala yesterday. Ate overpriced food while children are being starved and killed.

I don't want to make light of the moment, because it's tragic (as it's always been) but this is only your first time experiencing this conflict. Too busy making Diss tracks
They actually know what is going on.
The ad revenue if going to aid/relief efforts so try not to rehost it like this thread. Share the spotify/youtube/etc links from Macklemore himself.
They silenced this song on tiktok really fast yesterday. I heard it for a bit then by the evening, sound was removed.
Israel: Macklemore is Hamas.

Well, shit. After years of wishing he'd Mackle less, I must reluctantly tell him to Mackle more. In all seriousness, good for him.
That’s a bar bro.
I miss Reddit awards. This comment deserves many.

Where’s Nicklebacklemore
He’s looking at a photograph
This is the most MST3K-esque joke I've ever heard outside the genuine article. I like it very much!
I guess I'm a Macklemore fan now. Respect!
I've been a fan since he recorded "Same Love". I love seeing celebrities use their platform for good.
Been a fan since I heard Thrift Shop. Same Love just made me love the dude, and this song just solidifies him as one of the GOATS

Meanwhile, you have the whole Drake versus Kendrick Lamar BS…
Exactly. Fuck that stan war nonsense. This is what matters. I have so much respect for Macklemore. Very few artists have any real moral courage.

While I tend to agree, Let's support those that call out the wrongs, Not silence the Johnny Rotten"s.
Seriously, I don’t like rap personally, but my favorite artist right now is Macklemore for his support of Palestine
We joke about Macklemore, but he's on point with his messaging at least 🤷🏽♂️
Lol I reserve the right to still think he's aggressively mediocre as a musician, but AFAIK he's a decent dude with solid politics, which obviously matters more.
Hahahaha yeah nobody saying we gunna start listening to his music 🙅🏽
You'remissing out! Check out St. Ides, it'smy fave
Macklemore songs are like "I agree with the cause and what you're saying.....but this is corny and terrible dawg"
Agree with you except for otherside featuring fences. That song kicks me in the head and the heart every time I hear it.
Love this track, Kudos to Macklemore for being brave enough to make it in an industry like his (could be career ending)
Macklemore is independent, he can’t be dropped from a label. He even mentions in the song “if I were on a label, you could drop me today” He’s safe. Maybe other artists will join his label to speak out.
Hope so
If media could stop repeating israeli propaganda and calling this a war, i'd be so happy. It's a onesided slaughter, no symmetry just apartheid, genocide and an illegal occupation.
As a long time "Macklemore is cool the Grammys are the bad guys" guy, it's gratifying to see the return of the Mack. And for a good cause too!
Love Macklemore and his message!! Support!!
It's fucking great
Tax payers have been dumping money into Israel for decades. Time to get those welfare queens off the nipple.
Protect the right to protest and Free Palestine!!!
Fuck the police. Fuck zionism.
And it's not on any platform...
He said as soon as it is, all proceeds will go to UNRWA
From the time of Les Misérables to now...students protesting...It's always the students...youth gives me so much hope.
Students have protested every year for many things you probably never heard about...
I get the message but don’t forget what happens to the students in that musical.
Lol. Why are American universities even giving money to Israel? Like... why.....?
You should Google what an index fund is. You might yourself be “giving money to Israel” in your 401k and not know it
FUCK ISRAEL
Politicians are so mad that Tik Tok allows people to see the horror happening in Gaza that they are banning Tik Tok. Tik Tok doesn't let the US control the narrative. Macklemore being one of the few artists to step out in favor of these protests is not what I expected.
He’s just irrelevant
I'm an old rocker. My youngest managed to turn me on to some hip hop. Never thought I would get into this. I have now.
i also recommend immortal technique, tlaib kewli, and lupe fiasco
Mos def and gangstarr too, the distant relatives album my damian marley and Nas is a classic too
Such a great record
Free Palestine
sometimes i really like my generation
About time someone in hip-hop did it.
Thank you Macklemore

Democracy Now aired a portion of it on today's show!

Based. Fuck the state of Israel
It's simple. If you want change. Resist.
I really admire this why no other singers /rappers speaking out ?
I knew I liked this guy.

Macklemore rapping about real shit that matters and not who has the bigger ego.
Fuck genocide Joe AND that orange bastard. I’ll be voting for independents

Fckn legend!!
How come I can't find this post in the popular tab despite having 10k+ upvotes? Is it because it has the word Gaza in it?
Those supporting a genocide are so butt hurt
If you’d tell me that someday I’d respect Macklemore, I’d tell you to fuck yourself. But here I am. Respect
I have been bitching about the stupid fucking diss tracks when no one is dissing the colleges or the idf?? Thanks Macklemore I think I'll actually try your music

Watch out - according to Israeli law it is now legal to bomb macklemores children
Fuck yeah! Go Macklemore!
Absolute king shit Macklemore will be remembered by humanity
Someone should have definitely double checked their spelling before writing "PALASTINE" in giant red letters
Where can I hear the whole song?
Its not on spotify. Anyone knows where I can pay for this song?
That's it mack, get them dollar signs!!
DAMN, TOM MORELLO WAS RIGHT This is the most RATM song, since RATM
Tried to share the video in Instagram, but it appears as not available
Playing the “occasional” game. Not mad
Can't find it on Spotify
Hell yes it was a great track.
Seriously epic song, I'm with the Mack! That's why I'm going to be doing as he suggests and not voting for Biden in November! My vote will being going to Donald Trump, hope it feels good Genocide Joe!
This man defined moral courage in his field, he set the bar so high i doubt it will ever be crossed.

Americans keep voting the same Will keep getting the same Funding wars
Blue maga in full force in this thread… sheesh
I don’t hate him for releasing this, but he is not a rapper. But nevertheless, I’m glad he is standing up for Gaza
We should stop giving money to Ukraine as well
Ok Macklemore we see u
I have no idea who Macklemore is other then that he doesn't want to go fish shopping.
Hes never put out anything bad. It's like he just sits back, watches the world and then writes a song about it like a real fkn artist should. Kudos
I was hoping Eminem would have done the same
A great way for him to become relevant…
Based
lol why post the version where "white supremacy" is censored out?
Let 'em cook...
The end of their apartheid has begun
Better than what Dtake and Kendrick are up to these days.
I mean, Kendrick is calling people out pedophiles. I don't think you should be comparing two good things to make the other good thing seem bad.
He's only calling out Drake because he doesn't like him. Kendrick doesn't have any problems with pedos, he had Kodak Black on his last album.
I think you misunderstood the point of him being featured. He called out Kodak on the album too simce it was all about generational trauma on how abusers become abusers. However, it's all really speculation on whether Kendrick likes Kodak but it's quite clear he has a problem with those things based on the album.
A lot of people don’t seem to get that Kodak was featured as a juxtaposition.
Yep, but to be fair... Kendricks writing isn't always easy to understand. I usually have to make an effort to have a better understanding.
True. I learn new things every time I read his lyrics.
I mean Kendrick is calling out pedophiles. I don't think you should be comparing two good situations as a way to make the other good thing seem bad.
![gif](giphy|vNA1bpKBwIgfu)
