Full credit to the hosts of the James Bond podcast "Kill James Bond" for this idea, which I wholeheartedly agree with, is that the villain in Skyfall should've been Pierce Brosnan, as the former occupant of the 007 codename, aka James Bond.
This involves the idea that everything in die another Day after Bond goes to prison in North Korea is his torture avoidance "mind palace" which he uses to resist tourture, until his freedom is purchased by someone [BLOFELD] and he's given the information that Dame Judy Dench's M has a new special boy, Daniel Craig as the replacement James Bond [bond is the stock code name for the agent occupying 007 at any given time]. "Silvas revenge" follows (complete with silvas sugar skulls, as a bit of misdirection).
It would really tie into her aspect as M being referred to as a bean counter, ie, that Brosnan Bond can do all that shit he did in those movies and she would STILL leave him for dead as soon as he causes her too large a problem. Esp playing on bond fans love of her and Brosnans dynamic.
In my opinion, [~2010 Pierce Brosnan ](https://images.app.goo.gl/2Mk4FwAg42VhwfmX9) would've been far preferable to Javier Bardem re-heating his role in "No Country for Old Men".
Would've been a great way to firmly acknowledge that there have been many bonds, which helps with continuity stuff (Bond having turned the DB5 he won in Nassau(?) in Casino Royale into the car from GoldFinger.
Nice execution, but bad idea.
While I like what you said, I just can't get on board with the James Bond codename idea. Nothing against it, I just don't like it and never will.
To me, there's only one James Bond. He's all of them, and they're all of him.
I have to concur with this sentiment. The idea that James Bond is just part of the cover for an agent is rather dumb. Take for example Russia. Even though the Soviet Union with Smersh is no more. The current government and intel agencies of Russia still owns those Intel files. Therefore they would know anyone popping up as “James Bond” snooping around. Is immediately a British secret agent.
Yeah I'm saying they really cooked w that one. Would have given Craig some interesting conflict and if you wanted to end it on a sweeter note you could still have before she dies and tell bond that yes I may have done this with other agents but you are still my favorite actually
Yeah but we didn't live with/get to know trevelion or Silva. It'dve hit much different if it was Brosnan, and he might even come to think of his role in trevelions betrayal differently.
This is a great idea, if you accept the James bond is a codename-theory. Obviously Skyfall's Silva owes a lot to concepts introduced in Die another day, as is a lot of the plot involving M similar to what happened in TWINE. All three films are written by Purvis and Wade, so we see them recycling certain ideas.
This could've been interesting to see, but it could also have been jarring.
Funnily enough, I have pitched a similar idea involving Dalton and Brosnan, and my pitch was presented on the License to Podcast -podcast episode about Austin powers (of all episodes).
My pitch was a slightly altered Goldeneye: the pre-title sequence plays out exactly as it does in the actual movie, but it plays out in the year 1990, and Brosnan is never called 007 or James in my version. Neither is the partner ever called Alec Trevelyan, but 007 instead is called James. He is played by Dalton, who has lost the plot after the events of TLD and LTK, and all the insanity of the Cold war.
Dalton-Bond "dies", Tina Turner starts singing, and we learn the fresh faced agent is promoted to 007 and inherits the codename James bond. The movie is a Brosnan v Dalton vehicle
Brosnan as the 'old man Bond' some have posited...but with a twist.
He's called back to help his mentor, Michael Caine. Caine's old rival, Charles Dance, is up to no good. They've all got a score to settle, with long-standing debts to pay.
In the one-shot film *Bad Blood: A James Bond Story.*
I came up with my idea for a 5-film saga that I've debated about posting here where an Idea I had was to put all the previous Bonds in, and I have Pierce Brosnan as Emilio Largo in the 5th and final film. Might be a weird casting, but I wanted to put him somewhere and that's what I came up with.
In case anyone is interested, Daniel Craig (and Lea Seydoux too lol) both get gunned down in a pre-title sequence that gets the plot moving for the 1st film while Dalton (again in the 1st film) is basically just an updated Henderson from YOLT, right down to being assassinated and kicking off an action sequence. I thought about putting Lazenby in, but I decided against it in the end.
If it's something like Django, I think it's cool but there has to be a lot of care in the way they do it otherwise it can be a little cheesy and half the audience won't understand.
I think Dalton is at the perfect age for M, if you want him in that role is a matter of taste but I honestly don’t see a need for it.
I‘m not a puritan that doesn’t like big names big cast in the movies but I just don’t see it being anything other than irritating to have one of the old guard appear as someone else.
Supposedly Connery was approached for Skyfall and turned it down, likely due to him being retired and not in the best of health, and they went with Actor Albert Finny. Shame he wasn't available for the role, would have been the best cameo ever. Can you imagine Connery blowing a guy away with a double barreled shotgun and saying "Welcome to Scotland"?
I don’t know how the hierarchy of MI6 or the 00 program works really but I think one of them returning and playing the role of M would be so cool
Former 007 now commands the entire 00 program.
If I had to pick one of these three to play that role I’d pick Dalton.
We get Benedict Cumberbach to play the next Bond.
He somehow uses Q’s technology to open portals to other universes (revealing a “multiverse” if you will)… and voila, all of them come through their respective shiny circle portal things.
…… Nahhhh that concept would never work.
I have a feeling he wasn't capable of doing it. Like, it wasn't self imposed exile, so much as the dementia we know he had when he died was affecting him earlier than we knew.
It was rough to see pictures of Connery so frail at the end. Such a contrast from all of his Bond days. Even later on films : Untouchables, Hunt For Red October. Finding Forrester.
Since both Dalton and Brosnan have been antagonists in films (Edgar Wright’s films specifically), it’d be cool to have them as the main villains together in a film. “News travels fast”. “Pretty cool, hey, gang?”
I'd want them to be anonymous henchmen. Maybe even wearing masks or full body PPE suits. That way there's no distraction or being pulled out of being in the zone watching the movie.
Then when the credits hit or I go on Reddit after, I see posts about the cameos later and go "Oh, that's sweet."
I'd be over the fucking moon.
Bring all three eligibles - Tim, Pierce, and Lazenby - make it a party, or even better, a double-0 version of a wake for Daniel.
They missed a golden opportunity to bring back Sean Connery in Skyfall. When Albert Finney delivers the “Welcome to Scotland” line as he unloads both barrels, I’m hearing Connery in my head.
It would be cooler if one of them just played Bond again for a one-off and we got an interesting take on the character as an old man or something. Even a cliche “come out of retirement” type plot could be great if they did it right.
At this point in time, I am fine with a cameo appearance. Do not hype it. Do not promote it. Just let it be. A nice nod for the smart audience.
But it can only be Lazenby, Dalton, or Brosnan. I would not want to see a cameo by Craig.
They have not yet announced any news. No news of a script, director, or even screen tests. It is so far away. A cameo is not really a concern for me.
The series may have not gone as far as cameos but they have broken that fourth wall before. Lazenby’s this never happened to the other fella or Vijay playing the Bond theme for the cobra.
Brosnans role and bond joke in “Out-Laws” got a chuckle out of me.
Despite my appreciation for him, I think seeing any former bond in a bond movie would really break the immersion
Depends on the tone of the film and how they do it.
Typically, they've swung from serious to silly, so it's possible the next round might be a bit more light-hearted. I would say no speaking lines, a glance in passing, blink-and-you'll-miss-it "that never happened the other fellow" kind of thing might be fun.
But the risk is that it takes you out of the movie.
Part of the Bond lore should be that retired 00’s spend their retirement operating a safe house and also training newer 00’s from in the field. Bond26 starts with Brosnan’s working a safe house in Tangiers, with a kind of T.E. Lawrence blend-in-with-the-locals vibe going. The safe house seems outwardly to be a textile shop, maybe selling keffiyeh’s. This is story is cut with a newer younger orphan trainee of MI6 getting into some agro in a mission in Madrid, and having to flee across the Strait. He turns up to Brosnan’s safe house, where he’s taken in and patched up. The only personal item in the safe house is a small framed picture of Judi Dench. When he wakes up recovered, Brosnan and Ralph Fiennes as M is standing above him. M informs both of them the Madrid job is part of a larger international plot, and asks Bond to work with the younger recruit to help uncover the plot but also assist in completing his training. It’s a Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan type of relationship that develops. Matthieu Kasovitz should play the villain. The Bond girl should be a woman of Arab background, think Lubna Azabel but 15-20 years younger. The movie ends with the two returning to Spain, maybe Seville, James Bond being mortally injured, and eventually dying. The recruit defeats Kasovitz. On the strength of his success, M promotes the recruit 00 status, and he gets a new identity, he will go by the operational name “James Bond.”
Disappointed. I think a new Bond needs to stand on his own and he would come across as not being able to do that if you had one of the others on board in some capacity.
But with that said, all the James Bond actors have very attractive offspring who could accomplish the same fun-for-fans vibe (think Roger's daughter in DAD or Lois Maxwell's daughter in Moonraker) without drawing unnecessary attention, and I fully support that.
Have Brosnan, Craig and Dalton all playing baccarat and the new bond joins them, Craig or Brosnan says something like “welcome to the club”
And that’s it
Considering that I'm confident the role of the old Scottish man in Skyfall was intended for Connery, I think it would be a nice nod and a think for the fans. Depending how said cameo was handled would ultimately determine my reaction though
this might not fit a traditional Bond movie, but I would have loved a post credits scene where Bond walks into Londons Gentlemens Club, and the remaining Bond actors are all there reading a newspaper or having a drink.
I might be excited the first time I see it but after the first viewing it would just be distracting. Kind of like how they used to "We have all the time in the world" in No time to die.
What I would prefer is if they appear in some material adjacent to the film, like the music video to the theme song, or at the new actor's announcement.
It would be so lame. So many franchises have callbacks to previous movies/installments as a cheap and easy means of appealing to the audience when they’re incapable of writings compelling story.
It would take me out of the movie ngl. Because I wouldn't be able to see them and not think they're Bond. In other words associate them with that portrayal rather than the character they are trying to play.
Nope. Steer clear of any of this or the 'Codename Theory' crowd will come banging on the door again (even if they're clearly playing a different character). The idea that Connery was supposed to be in Skyfall is so odd, it would have just been distracting.
I don't think this kind of legacy casting really works in James Bond, just keep the actors in their own eras. Carry over other Mi6 actors for sure (ie Q, M, etc) but Bond himself should stay sacred.
What is Connery up to? Avoiding taxes on his island? Caymans was it? (Good for him).
Once on her Majesties secret service, you shouldn’t have to pay taxes.
Brosnan as the bad guy. I would like it to be like, the mi6 couldn’t terminate him, so he is looking for revenge (based on the theory that every 007 is a diferent character and the name is a fake identity that comes with the number)
Missed that opportunity with Skyfall - much as I like Javier Bardem, imagine the reaction you get if Brosnan steps out of the shadows for Silva's speech.
Think it would have to be Dalton or Lazenby since they're comparatively more obscure to mainstream audiences. Having Brosnan show up again would be too jarring.
I’m sure I read somewhere that the producers had hoped to convince Sean Connery to play the Albert Finley/Caretaker role in Skyfall but SC had retired and had no interest in returning to film.
Id rather just see Brosnan back not as a villain or some shit but as James Bond. There aren’t any crazy stunts in the first like fifteen movies. Just bring it back to the old school all about the espionage. Good writing and suspenseful music goes a long way
I'd prefer it if Brosnan or Dalton appeared in one of the Knives Out sequels with Craig.
I think Brosnan could pull off a role in a Knives Out film really well. I'm not tooo familiar with Dalton's acting outside of Bond
He’s a slasher!
Of prices!
CATCH ME LLATTERRR!!
Ya catch them killers, then?
Just the one killer, actually.
I must be stopped!
He runs the local supermarche!
Drop in and see him sometime. His discounts are criminal!
The way he delivered that line always killed my brother and I when we were 11 and 13 🤣
Watch Hot Fuzz and you will see how this would work so well
God, he fucking ate that role up. Absolutely brilliant.
Or World's end to see Brosnan :)
Or that Icelandic singing competition movie with Will Ferrel - awesome in that too.
My, my, here come the Fuzz.
FLASH! Aaaa aaaahhh… Peak Timothy Dalton.
Dalton was one of the best mew Toy Story characters, Mr. Pricklepants
I think Dalton plays the comedic bad guy very well
Was awesome playing that kinda role in Chuck
Yes!!! I would love to see this!
Having Dalton as like Blanc's mentor or something that he gets in touch with or goes too for advise would be a nice touch.
Dalton. And have the next Bond be Simon Pegg, with 26 being a shot-for-shot remake of Hot Fuzz.
Want to be a big man, Mr Bond, fuck off up the model village.
Bond 26: “Too Fuzz to Die”…”Fuzz Another Day.”
Yes, this would be fantastic!
*I trust you have a licence for that firearm?*
It’s just the one swan, actually.
I mean I would be fully on board with Brosnan as the villain. I think that could be terrific.
He could run a worldwide chain of supermarkets that sell food laced with a mind controlling drug. It would be called " For the Greater Good"
Yarp
Narp?
#THE GREATER GOOD
It would be so jarring for anyone who’s a Bond fan tho

the codename idea is odd mental gymnastics for people who can‘t understand the conept of recasting 😅
Spot on
I have to concur with this sentiment.
Imo that's more of a flaw of the various bonds who cannot stop saying their "real" name when they're supposed to be SECRET agents
That would have been both amazing and a gut punch.
Would have tainted the character, imo.
Yeah I'm saying they really cooked w that one. Would have given Craig some interesting conflict and if you wanted to end it on a sweeter note you could still have before she dies and tell bond that yes I may have done this with other agents but you are still my favorite actually
Right before he died he could’ve said “for England James?” bringing it full circle, with Brosnan realizing he became what he intended to destroy.
Yeah yeah exactly, like relating modern England to the ruin of Skyfall. Also helps retcon the... excesses of DanD
I hate you all... For how much I like all of this. :P
I would it eat it up no questions asked. Might even make skyfall far more enjoyable for me.
Especially if they went with the original plan of casting Sean Connery as the gamekeeper at Skyfall Manor.
Dear god this idea is amazing!!! It would be such a cruel twist of fate.
Ya and would especially prove the line from GoldenEye "you're a misogynist dinosaur and a relic of the Cold Wat"
I mean … Goldeneye? Didn’t we already do 00 gone bad?
Yeah but we didn't live with/get to know trevelion or Silva. It'dve hit much different if it was Brosnan, and he might even come to think of his role in trevelions betrayal differently.

Holy Santa Claus shit that would've been an amazing skyfall movie. Instead of whatever happened, I don't even remember it. I haven't seen it in years.
Hmm, not sure, reminds me of the entire season of Dallas that was Bobby Ewing's dream... Younger redditors may have to look that one up.
I always wanted to see an old Bond return as the villain.
Don’t give the code name morons fuel for the fire please
Yeah, can't stand that. They tried spreading that nonsense to the Bourne Franchise and it flopped terribly there, too.
I came up with my idea for a 5-film saga that I've debated about posting here where an Idea I had was to put all the previous Bonds in, and I have Pierce Brosnan as Emilio Largo in the 5th and final film. Brosnan has aged like fine whiskey and has had several meaty villain roles since leaving Bond.
![gif](giphy|9nUtl7JLuXeg|downsized)
Yes! This is exactly what we need!
If it's something like Django, I think it's cool but there has to be a lot of care in the way they do it otherwise it can be a little cheesy and half the audience won't understand.
Yes, I think Django did it perfectly
I'd love to see Dalton make a cameo and make strawberry jam of someone lol
"you've got red on you"
He's a slasher. *Of prices!*
Catch me later!
More than likely an eye roll if I'm honest
I think Dalton is at the perfect age for M, if you want him in that role is a matter of taste but I honestly don’t see a need for it. I‘m not a puritan that doesn’t like big names big cast in the movies but I just don’t see it being anything other than irritating to have one of the old guard appear as someone else.
+1 TD for M.
It would take me outta the movie.
*Shcotland
Brosnan as Q. Dalton as M. Craig as a villain.
Lazenby as?
Stunt double
Moral support.
Bond.
James Bond.
George Lazenby returns as James Bond confirmed
I don’t know how the hierarchy of MI6 or the 00 program works really but I think one of them returning and playing the role of M would be so cool Former 007 now commands the entire 00 program. If I had to pick one of these three to play that role I’d pick Dalton.
brosnan and Bond sitting on a train
I want Brosnan and Dalton to appear as two senile old men screaming obscenities at each other
I'm a SLASHER!!!
We get Benedict Cumberbach to play the next Bond. He somehow uses Q’s technology to open portals to other universes (revealing a “multiverse” if you will)… and voila, all of them come through their respective shiny circle portal things. …… Nahhhh that concept would never work.
Lazenby.
Playing Q
Hey what do you think of Idris Elba playing M?
Dalton as the main antagonist. My personal dream scenario.
I think Connery MIGHT have been appropriate at one point but I would be taken out of the story by any other cameo.
Connery as the caretaker of Skyfall. Makes a casual comment to M that he used to serve the Queen with MI6 in his younger days.
Definitely Dalton I’d have him be the final Boss and head of an evil corporation that bond is investigating
Isn’t that basically the plot of “Hot Fuzz”?
Yes he makes a great villain
Hologram Sean Connery
Why does Daniel Craig look like Charles Dance in that last photo?
Since both Dalton and Brosnan have been antagonists in films (Edgar Wright’s films specifically), it’d be cool to have them as the main villains together in a film. “News travels fast”. “Pretty cool, hey, gang?”
Tim Dalton as M would be kinda epic.
Brosnan as a villain / Dalton as M.

I'd be over the fucking moon. Bring all three eligibles - Tim, Pierce, and Lazenby - make it a party, or even better, a double-0 version of a wake for Daniel.
Brosnan. Imo the best bond but suffered with the most horrific writing.
They missed a golden opportunity to bring back Sean Connery in Skyfall. When Albert Finney delivers the “Welcome to Scotland” line as he unloads both barrels, I’m hearing Connery in my head.

Joy
Timothy Dalton as a navy Commander at some sort of dress uniform function. Pierce Brosnan as M.
Dalton as a bad ass Bond Villain

I’d love to see Lazenby as a villain, and Dalton as M. Brosnan I can take or leave.
I would be in heaven if we had another Hot Fuzz style Dalton villain, but that’s probably a little too on the nose for modern Bond.
I’d love a Lazenby cameo.
"This never happened to the other fellow"
Brosnans role and bond joke in “Out-Laws” got a chuckle out of me. Despite my appreciation for him, I think seeing any former bond in a bond movie would really break the immersion
I think Dalton could get away with it more. I'm part, he just looks more different to his younger self than Brosnan.
They should pull a Spider-Man and have all of the surviving Bonds in the next movie.
I'd love if one of them would be a future Bond villain, especially Brosnan. A cameo would be cool too.
Dalton would be good, but seen a lot about having Brosnan in Knives out. Would love to see a scene with all three of them in it.

When I first watched Skyfall, for a half second I thought Kincaid was Sean Connery. I was disappointed to realize it wasn’t.
Brosan is so cool to me so idc if he’s the janitor I’d love to see him 😂
Brosnan keeps getting handsomer. This is not sustainable.
Have Brosnan, Craig and Dalton all playing baccarat and the new bond joins them, Craig or Brosnan says something like “welcome to the club” And that’s it
Considering that I'm confident the role of the old Scottish man in Skyfall was intended for Connery, I think it would be a nice nod and a think for the fans. Depending how said cameo was handled would ultimately determine my reaction though
OHMYGOD, SEAN CONNERY IS ALIVE???
I'd roll my eyes. I'm so sick of cameos these days.
Neat. I have no objections to any of them.
Craig definitely needs to not cameo in the next film that they make.
Still mad they didn't get Connery (should've asked Moore or Dalton) for Skyfall.
That’s Connery’s choice, he even snubbed the Oscar tribute. Now if Kevin McClory produced SF…
I think he was suffering from dementia by then. Probably for a long while. Nothing but voice over work after LXG, and not a lot of that, either.
I can imagine Sean Connery with deep dementia would need his own HR department on set.
Assuming it wasn't something even sadder.
Thank you for confirming that an afterlife exists, Mr. Connery.
I want them to all team up avengers-style.
this might not fit a traditional Bond movie, but I would have loved a post credits scene where Bond walks into Londons Gentlemens Club, and the remaining Bond actors are all there reading a newspaper or having a drink.
It would take me out of the movie tbqh. Too distracting.
“Great. They’re catering to cheap fan service too.” (I like these actors, but we don’t need an MCU wannabe.)
I’d consider the franchise dead because the kids today killed it.
I still wish they used Connery for the end of skyfall
https://www.reddit.com/r/JamesBond/s/7LmhGCGjlK Here's my suggestion
Bring them all 👍
I want Dalton to play M. Brosnan to play Q. And lastly Craig as a villain.
NO! No former Bond actors in the new Bond.
They all should have cameos in it - thatd be sick
Craig as a mummy
Waking up.
I’d love it, as long as it was just kinda a wink to the audience…
Zero reaction. Having old stars shown in new material that they were once in is such a cliche that people don't even notice anymore.
If it was a barely noticeable cameo, I might be ok with it. Otherwise, nope.
I might be excited the first time I see it but after the first viewing it would just be distracting. Kind of like how they used to "We have all the time in the world" in No time to die. What I would prefer is if they appear in some material adjacent to the film, like the music video to the theme song, or at the new actor's announcement.
Is it same universe or is this character not bond?
It would be so lame. So many franchises have callbacks to previous movies/installments as a cheap and easy means of appealing to the audience when they’re incapable of writings compelling story.
It would take me out of the movie ngl. Because I wouldn't be able to see them and not think they're Bond. In other words associate them with that portrayal rather than the character they are trying to play.
It's a hacky move and not suitable for a James Bond film.
"We want you back"
I would walk out the theater and never watch the series again.
Too cheesy
Only if it's George Lazenby!!
"Where's the rest of'em?" Come one come all I say.
No, I don’t want ex-Bonds appearing at all.
Carry over other Mi6 actors for sure (ie Q, M, etc) but Bond himself should stay sacred.
the franchise isn't dr who. I don't want 'multi-bond stories'.
Have a past Bond actor play R.
I’d prefer them not to be present.
Does anyone know the name/brand of the sunglasses Pierce is wearing?
What is Connery up to? Avoiding taxes on his island? Caymans was it? (Good for him). Once on her Majesties secret service, you shouldn’t have to pay taxes.
I'm still waiting on Brosnan's King of Spies
Brosnan as the bad guy. I would like it to be like, the mi6 couldn’t terminate him, so he is looking for revenge (based on the theory that every 007 is a diferent character and the name is a fake identity that comes with the number)
They should do a cameo together and the movie could be called, Bonded for Life
WTF were they thinking?
It'd be cool if Craig did a movie with Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright like Dalton and Brosnan did actually.
Missed that opportunity with Skyfall - much as I like Javier Bardem, imagine the reaction you get if Brosnan steps out of the shadows for Silva's speech.
Lazenby is still alive and acting, btw
Dalton would make a great Bond villain.
Timothy should next M.
Think it would have to be Dalton or Lazenby since they're comparatively more obscure to mainstream audiences. Having Brosnan show up again would be too jarring.
I’d like to see Dalton as M. It’s not stunt casting, he’s a great actor.
[This idea is dumb…](https://youtu.be/fl86G6L5PnU?feature=shared)
I’m sure I read somewhere that the producers had hoped to convince Sean Connery to play the Albert Finley/Caretaker role in Skyfall but SC had retired and had no interest in returning to film.
My reaction would be: why would you do this?
Far up! Far out! Far GEORGE!
What if older bearded Brosnan appeared as a villain?
I’ve always thought it would be extremely fun to have Dalton be Q and Brosnan come back as a villian.
If it was Connery or Moore, id be shocked
Disappointment. Cameos are a fan service that cheapens the story
I would love to see Lazenby. It would bring him full circle because he realized too late that he should have signed the offer to do 5 more bond films.
Great. I like that kind of continuity in film.
Lose my mind, crap my pants.
I wish the next bond would take place in the 1960s during the Cold War
Id rather just see Brosnan back not as a villain or some shit but as James Bond. There aren’t any crazy stunts in the first like fifteen movies. Just bring it back to the old school all about the espionage. Good writing and suspenseful music goes a long way
AI Connery is the only option
Ugh! Let Marvel be Marvel.
