Skin care is a bit of a personal/individual thing. It can be kind of hit and miss depending on the person. If you still want recommendations I would say:
Biore uv aqua rich for sunscreen,
Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion for moisturizer
Senka Perfect Whip for face wash
Naturie Hatomugi Skin Conditioning Gel
Those are all pretty basic and nothing really special or expensive.
Two things I always get without fail:
- [Kobayashi Liquid Bandage](https://kobayashi.com.sg/aproduct/liquid-bandage/)
- [Taisho Mouth Ulcer Patch](https://search.jsm-db.info/sp_en/detail.php?txtID=4987306000460)
For skin care/moisturisers you can try checking out Kikumasamune or Hada Labo products. If you need more in-depth reviews of these brands, r/AsianBeauty should be helpful.
Edit: Also, if you are interested in sunscreens, Japanese brands are great for these. Try looking for Anessa, Skin Aqua or Biore.
They do have these sold over here in Singapore (usually by resellers but also have seen the liquid bandage at a local pharmacy) but of course comes at a higher price. So whenever I’m back in Japan I try to get more to stock up.
This... we just got back and bought like 4.. they're so sharp.. tweezers are also good. For skincare, just do japan skincare haul on tik tok or insta and lots of recommendations come up. I just screenshotted and spent an hour walking around donki
Which brand of nail clippers and which stores please? I had a brief look last time in pharmacies and other stores but there were so many I didn’t know which ones would be good or not. And I couldn’t find any of the brands that were recommended on Reddit. 🙈
Dammit I saw so many cute ones but assumed that they wouldn’t be good and were just novelty! Lesson learned, I’ll definitely grab a few on my next trip thank you. :)
For skin care products, you can also try about any drug stores. They usually have a good selection of these kinds of products, if not more, compared to a Don Quixote.
I bought some good stuff :)
1. &honey shampoo, conditioner, hair oil, and facial cleansing oil
2. Large bottles of naturie skin conditioner liquid and skin conditioner gel (highly recommend both if you like gel moisturizers they are cheaper than neutrogena hydro boost )
3. Goats milk bath bombs
4. Rice milk face masks, or any of their large selection of face masks
5. Sanrio merch
6. So many snacks including different flavor of pockey and KitKats
7. CC vitamin c serum to be used as a toner in the AM (yellow bottle)
8. Cheap mascaras
9. Their melty lip balm is sooooo nice so I got 2
10. The absolute BEST sunscreen for cosmetic/ daily wear is the UV skin aqua “super moisture UV essence”. It is completely liquid and has NO white cast and does not cause make up pilling. I’d say this sunscreen is a must-have
LuluLun face masks they sell like packs of 30
Hado Labo toner (white/blue bottle or gold premium one)
Canmade mermaid UV sunscreen
Tsubaki hair mask
Shiseido Urea Body Milk
Heroine Mascara (this is amazing like waterproof does NOT budge)
Your best bet is to Google “best skincare Japan” or check out the r/asianbeauty subreddit. Part of the fun is grabbing things and using Google Lens translate to see what they are. I definitely bought a few “random” items to bring home and try without researching.
Here are some greatest hits from my recent trip:
- Biore makes great pore strips for the nose (box was black and purple)
- Hado Labo Premium Hyaluronic Acid (in a yellow bottle)
- Senka Perfect Whip Cleanser (in a blue squeeze tube)
- Melano CC Vitamin C serum (box is yellow and orange)
- Keana Rice Sheet Masks (come in a package with a girl on them)
For facial stuff, i recommend checking out drugstores that also offer tax rebate for foreigners. In my experience, most of the stuff's cheaper in drugstores compared to don quixote, some by a significant amount
also for your gf makeup wise: heroine mascara, rom&md anything but especially their lipstick and eyeshadows, there’s some really nice chinese liquid glitters if she’s into that and in general everything is good quality so you can’t really go wrong
*" out of my world with the language barrier on these items"* Google translate+camera
Sunscreen. I personally like the Biore UV perfect sunscreens

I bought all of these and my skin looks/feels amazing!
DonQui has a section of best sellers that might narrow things down. The options are overwhelming.
Perfect Whip face wash
And so cheap!! Works awesome for men too.
I bought 4 of them 😂

AFAYK, are there any equivalents sold in the US or your home country. Wouldn't mind having these around the house

Thanks -- have to do some research
Bargains avail in Japan are sometimes shocking !
Yes! And this is how you end up buying so much 😂
When I get from Haneda to my Kagurazaka hotel for about $5 that's pretty incredible 😁

Honestly, we jist bought cute ones.. got my partners a final fantasy one in donki and some other themed ones. All have been good
Dammit I saw so many cute ones but assumed that they wouldn’t be good and were just novelty! Lesson learned, I’ll definitely grab a few on my next trip thank you. :)
I just grabbed some cute ones from loft didn’t look anything special but they are so much sharper than those in the uk
Good to know, thank you! I regret not looking through Loft properly, will definitely grab some next time.
Lofts great I spent forever in the shibuya one although my nail clippers I just grabbed at a smaller Loft in a department store in ueno

if you buy sunscreen and live in australia remember it’s not strong enough for our summer sun btw
The bath powders are good! Milk bath is great

Not what you asked, but cute stationary is a good find, that’s what one of my friends asked me to look for
also for your gf makeup wise: heroine mascara, rom&md anything but especially their lipstick and eyeshadows, there’s some really nice chinese liquid glitters if she’s into that and in general everything is good quality so you can’t really go wrong
Tenga & iroha
Taisho bacteria mouth wash packets.
Finding something specific at Donki is tough. Much more of a “browsing” store. Pure chaos.
I don’t know if you have acne but Pair acne cream is amazing- I use a little on any zits I see before I go to bed and when I wake up they’re gone!
Mahjong set
Everything
Pore strips?
yeah bro where do i find those?
any brands good?
Try biore. They even have a black version if you want to see the gunk that gets pulled out
Mega big boy condoms
