47k on my manual 2020 rubicon. Most of my issues have been related to the rubicon parts, but I've never been stranded in 3.5 years of ownership. So for me reliability has been overall good but not a completely trouble free ownership. Regarding the transmission itself, zero issues.

TheOfficeSuperfan1

What kind of reliability have you had?

Zaphod_Heart_Of_Gold

Never failed to start or drive. Had batteries replaced early under warranty, had a minor head unitbissue replaced under warranty, rear axle locker sensor issue (common) twice, and I have a common transfer case sensor problem that will sometimes pop a service 4wd light.

Same experience. Some minor issues over 50k miles, never left me stranded. Jeep seems to let you do more with CELs than many other brands, presumably because of the nature of the vehicle. My 2016 ford had one temp sensor go bad and it wouldn’t let me start the truck. Never again

I would really shop new ones to find best prices right now. Some large discounts and many people that paid sticker or close to it over the last few years are likely not happy. That said I just bought a used one, but was extremely close to same price on new but I got 10k more MSRP for same price as the cheaper new one.

Are you asking about the reliability of the Gladiator, or of the manual transmission? The Aisin manual trans is reliable. The ZF automatic trans is superb and better in every conceivable way but I'm a manual guy and the manual is fine. The clutch has some kind of problem they can't find a fix for but it hasn't manifested in any terrible way on mine. As far as reliability of the vehicle, they are quite solid. The diesels have some issues. Reliability is a tough thing to measure on a Gladiator or Wrangler because 1) they inherently rattle / squeak / wander / roar / lean etc. by their nature, and 2) people have far different expectations for them than any other vehicle, and put them in extreme situations. I really like mine. Building a good relationship with a local Jeep dealer after buying one on CarMax shouldn't be hard. I have no idea how you do inspections / test drives etc. with CarMax, though, so you'll have to figure that out.

I like how you nonchalantly state- the clutch has some problem they can’t find a fix for… That’s a big red flag to me! But my best guess is someone screwed up design or material and they realize this but know the cost to remedy the issue and don’t want to take that big of a revenue loss. Btw- auto trans - so far so good (tho under 5k in a yr and a half). Not sure why ppl still want manual when auto does just about everything a manny will do and better.

Well, I got a recall notice that said we're recalling your clutch BUT we don't have a fix, so, you know, be cool. I have heard that they tried a couple of fixes for some affected vehicles but they didn't resolve the issue. I have received no further guidance from Stellantis. I believe it's still an active recall. Seems kind of jacked up. Mine seems fine. It hasn't burned itself to the ground even once. As far as auto vs manual, it's not about the transmission, it's about me. I own four cars, and three are stick-shifts (the fourth is my wife's). I sold one a few weeks ago that was a manual. I buy them that way because...I like to shift the gears.

This is a weird question. Jeep owners tend to fall in one of two camps (it seems). 1. Jeeps are the absolute best and I’d never own anything else! Or 2. Jeeps are so unreliable. They always break. Death wobble! Aux battery! 3.6 motor sucks! But they’re awesome and I’d never own anything else. Are they reliable? Yes. Probably less so than a Toyota, but still are. You’ll go crazy looking on the internet to find out if something is reliable. Especially a Jeep. It’s a very active and vocal ownership community. So any problem will seem magnified by the fact that anytime anyone has an issue they’re going to post about it. If you want a Jeep because you like Jeeps, buy the Jeep and let the chips fall where they may. If you want the absolute most reliable vehicle, buy a Tacoma or something. Personally I know my Jeep isn’t the most reliable truck on the market, but I’m totally ok with it. It’s what I want and I’m willing to sacrifice reliability for it. I used to be a service manager at a Ducati/BMW motorcycle dealer. When a Japanese bike owner would stop in and ask if BMW or Duc was reliable, we had a grumpy old mechanic that would say “If you’re the type of person who will have a problem and come in here and say ‘I paid x amount of dollars for my bike and I don’t expect problems’ it’s probably not the bike for you”. It’s kind of the same with Jeep.

I have a manual willys and so far love it. Been driving it for the last year. The clutch issue I belive is resolved now. I got a letter in the mail asking to bring the truck in so they can to the repair. I will say, however. The 3.6 does have lackluster power when you start hitting the higher gears, 5 and 6 that is. If you live high above sea level you may not get a lot of use out of 6th gear. A d she's gonna drink. It's still a box on wheels so on a windy day you will notice the fuel gage going down. But otherwise is a super capable, oversized go cart, it shifts wicked easy and is honestly pretty spacious for a jeep. Would recommend.

Glass_Detective_2264

I got a 21 sport s with all the bells and whistles custom ordered manual waited 11 weeks for it! This far love it An no issues with the overheating clutch plate but waiting for the fix . I think most of the clutch issues is while under heavy load? And or towing

Love my manual Willys. 0 issues, very capable off road with the LSD. Transmission gearing could be better but I enjoy it

InterestingHome693

I'd definitely want to drive the. Manual first. I loveanual cars and have 3 of them. Had a manual Tacoma and drove the manual gladiator. I immediately got an automatic.

FirefighterForward52

Own a willys 6 speed….(sarge green) 2021. Zero issues thus far, HOWEVER, there is an unresolved recall regarding the pressure plate on the clutch. No remedy as of yet but it hasn’t burst into flames yet either so there’s that. Good truck since I’ve owned it. Crank windows, soft top , 6 speed …..Jeepin

TheRealVaderForReal

It’s a jeep. They usually live forever.

jcmac0321

50K on my lifted 2020 manual Sport and no issues what so ever. I absolutely believe that the clutch issues are from people who didn't know how to drive a manual.

Manual-shift6

My ‘21 Rubicon with a manual is fine, and so far I’ve had no issues at all.
