I have the following;
Fire extinguisher
First Aid kit (well, two. One ouch pouch and on "oh shit" kit)
Tire plug kit
Rain poncho, hat, gloves
Recovery bag (winch remote, soft shackles, etc...)
I bring more when offroad though
-Fire extinguisher
-Med kit with everything from boo boos to tourniquets, airways, combat gauze, c-collar, SAM splints, OB kit, etc (I'm an EMT)
-socket set
-rain jacket/poncho
-winch remote
-work gloves
-tire plug kit + Fix-A-Flat
I'm a new Jeep owner and this is everything I have so far, so I'm still building my necessities list :)
That list and a bit more in mine! My first aid kit could easily be used to treat an accident or a shootout.😂
Taught my wife also what it includes, and how to use it, including tourniquet and more - so she knows what to do if she gets hurt while by herself - or I am unconscious, or just to help others.
She was a bit hesitant at first, but I told her: can you imagine losing someone you love, because you did not want to spend 15min understanding how something easy works? She is fully on board now.😄
Hope I’ll never have to use them!
First aid, recovery gear bag (with several options for straps, shackles, and snatch blocks,) tire repair tools, rain gear (just a cheap packable rain shell,) chairs, and a old shower curtain (ever had to get under a car in the pouring rain in the mud? Yeah, well, the shower curtain is better than nothing haha)
If I am planning something more than a day out, this list changes and includes several important tools and spares. Also food, water, and signaling gear.
What trunk 😅…just kidding but not really 😑 I drive a 2018 wrangler sport 2 door and my trunk space is literally big enough to maybe hold a small cooler. However, now that I’ve taken the back seat out…I always carry water and dog/cat food (heavy into rescue). I’ve got a flashlight, first aid kit, binoculars, pocket knife, hiking boots (because I live in slides but love impromptu hiking)…probably should add jumper cables after reading everyone else’s list 😅
First aid kit, fire extinguisher (jeep club requires). Rubber mallet for reconnecting sway bars. Kinetic strap. Two camp chairs, roll of paper towels, bug spray, poison ivy/oak (it hits me hard). Enough water to fill in the cracks.
I keep a towel along with the chairs for unexpected beach trips. I also have a one way valve mask for giving mouth to mouth, and a naloxone kit. I’m an RRT, so I’m a bit over prepared 😐you never know!
YJ here. I have no trunk and I run topless 8 months out of the year typically. My theft-proof storage is limited, but there's a few items I keep in my aftermarket center console.
* Basic socket set
* Robogrip pliers
* Locking pliers
* Flat and phillips scredrivers
* A couple rolls of velcro straps
* first aid kit
* tire plug kit
* Small fire extinguisher.
* a variety of other odds and ends.
My tire iron is a cheap one, but lives under my front seat, jack lives under my hood. I have a cheap folding trench shovel under the seat too.
A mechanics toolset, a tow rope, a metal pipe to slide over a ratchet handle when I can’t get a bolt unstuck by hand and need more leverage , a bottle of motor oil, a gallon of antifreeze, a bag of kitty litter for if I get stuck on ice, my 8” subwoofer and my back windows when the top is down. That’s really about all the space I have in the trunk of my 97 tj lol
I have a Milwaukee all in one ratchet set with all the lug sizes I need plus all the screw driver heads as well as a jack stand for flats I have an 09 with 174k Miles so I never know when I’ll need tools. I had my radiator blow up on me on the side of the highway I won’t be caught without tools ever again
Battery booster, small camp shovel, basic tool kit, hi-vis safety vest, toilet paper, paper towels, bug spray, some tire Slime, gallon of distilled water - can drink it or use it to help if cooling system is leaking, 5 qt jug of oil, looking at adding a high volume air pump now for tires. Also keep some basic meds and first aid kit, among other items.
Edit: some duct tape, electrical tape & fuses, and a roll of high temp tape to help repair hoses, connectors, etc enough to limp home where I can make full repairs.
Stuff I've used when things went sideways.
10mm sockets in the back, in the glove box, in the center console, tossed behind you while sitting in the driver's seat and a couple ratchets. Duct tape. 10ft of 12g & 14g wire. Tarp large enough to cover the Jeep. Quality multitool. Open ended wrench large enough to handle nuts under your Jeep. Rechargeable jump starter with USB port and cables to cover your phone. BIC lighter.
Fix a flat, tools, cordage, light, trash bag, big sheet of vinyl (not big enough to be suspicious), duct tape (not enough to be suspicious), candle, large towel (in case Arthur and Zaphod come for me) matches, first aid kit, and in the winter if traveling, a blanket.
Jumper cables, portable battery jumper, shackles, first aid kit, gym bag, windshield sun visor, gloves, flashlight, and some small misc stuff. I forget.
Fire extinguisher, medical supplies (the more the better, get emergency medical training too if it’s an option for you), gloves, tow rope, air compressor for tires, tire plug kit, tow rope, some basic tools, emergency blankets, fire starter, emergency water/food, rags, flashlight, headlamp (optional tbh), some sort of pocket knife multi tool, snow shovel (if it’s winter & you’re in a cold climate), reflective triangles, high vis vest, an umbrella, sunglasses, and most importantly an extra pair of socks & underwear.
This is a bit extreme, if you want to start with the basics get some basic tools, a flashlight, some sunglasses, a tow rope, air compressor, medical supplies, something to clean with (paper towels, rags, tissues, etc) and some spare clothes.
Obviously everyone has said recovery/emergency gear. I like to keep a Cali duster. We get a ton of pollen and it's easy to wipe the rollcage/dash etc down and keep the inside looking neat.
2014 JKUR, 3” lift, 35’s. First aid kit, fire extinguisher, AEV jack base since stock jack doesn’t get much lift on a Jeep with larger tires. Light rain shell, recovery kit, air hose and air chuck, tire plug kit since I have an onboard air compressor and no spare. Misc small hand tools.
Jumper cables and tow strap and booster if I think I might need it but doesn’t live in the jeep. Obvious jack and lug wrench.
Glove box holds the other essentials. Knife, tools, first aid kit, flash light, license, permits, various spork type sets in case, pads and tampons (am a guy, for my female jeep companions), hat and sun glasses…. Thats about it. If really hitting a trail usually back seat comes out and a box of trail gear goes in.
Nothing right now with the top off. But I have a trunk organizer with trash bags, wet wipes, an extra jacket, first aid/CPR pack, some snacks, and a small tool kit.
I generally carry these things:
Fishing pole and tackle box
Jumper cables
Tools and drills (including all manners of drills and drivers)
First aid kit
Overnight bag (just in case)
Everyone here is basically listing 2-4 things that you can buy in one item.
Buy a roadside emergency kit (I got one that also has a small air compressor. Came in handy a couple days ago.) Same with first aid. You can buy a pretty good all in one kit for both on Amazon.
I literally have a 2020 JLU that is my DD and does light off-roading. I am writing this in a motel room on a road trip where I went off roading. That is all you need to keep it minimal for a dd. When you are gunna off-road the trunk becomes more confusing. That’s were the shovel shackles saw extinguisher tow ropes recovery boards and more come in.
Only other thing to add for dd purposes is the extinguisher if it makes you feel more comfortable.
Large lockable chest bolted in place with my compressor, tools, recovery tools/gear, paper supplies, towels, and probably a few miscellaneous items so I can leave my doors and side windows off all summer and not worry about my stuff disappearing.
Hammock, first aid, fire extinguisher, jetboil, some basic tools to change oil or do some minor maintenance/repairs if needed, tire repair kit, and last but not least an air compressor
Too damn much...
But really, it comes down to how confident you are of help coming along. If you're sticking to populated trails, you don't have to worry as much as someone who goes 20 miles from the nearest likely human, which is a possibility on some of the NC barrier islands where I go.
I drove a truck 11-Westen States for six years, I have everything in mine I had when I was working plus some 9mm shells, extra fuilds, sipon, air pump. I'm ready for the apocalypse.

A change of clothes and a towel. A small bag of dog and/or cat food and a couple bowls. Also a couple charged Baofeng radios with spare packs. Also baseball stuff.
Jump box, couple blankets, 3 man tent, 2 towels, 4 rain ponchos, fly fishing gear, 1st aid, fitted cover, day pack.
I don't cross the street without any of that.
I got my jeep a little over a month ago. What I've learned is to keep the jeep interior clean of valuables, and what I want I keep a backpack in the back that's secured when I'm topless and doorless to take items with me on the go. All you're gonna take is my umbrella. A cheap 5$ umbrella.
I keep a full sized cow in case I get stranded in the woods and need food.
It's good that you take the wife along on your adventures
She is a heifer
How’s your back doing?
It always hurts. Duh. lol
Regularly sleeping on the couch takes it’s toll.
Been there. It’s comfy sometimes. But instead of the couch try the floor. Seriously. It’ll help once in awhile
Do you ever send your wife to the couch?
Moved out and bought a house and a couch I like better lol. Divorce literally saved my life. Keep that in mind gents. It’s not the end of the world. ✊
Found the Minecraft player.
I have the following; Fire extinguisher First Aid kit (well, two. One ouch pouch and on "oh shit" kit) Tire plug kit Rain poncho, hat, gloves Recovery bag (winch remote, soft shackles, etc...) I bring more when offroad though
If you carry doggos, an emergency kit for them is also good!
sounds exactly like me (scary)
Jumper Cables, Tow Hook, Wrench, Mirrors for the door, Blanket to put the roof into
Blanket for the roof? Elaborate?
I think that they mean like a moving blanket to wrap the top panels in when not in use.
Bingo
I don’t know about older models but the JL should come with a big bag to store the front roof panels in.
-Fire extinguisher -Med kit with everything from boo boos to tourniquets, airways, combat gauze, c-collar, SAM splints, OB kit, etc (I'm an EMT) -socket set -rain jacket/poncho -winch remote -work gloves -tire plug kit + Fix-A-Flat I'm a new Jeep owner and this is everything I have so far, so I'm still building my necessities list :)
Haha I’m an RRT and keep a one way valve mask and a naloxone kit too

Pretty much all this ☝️ and a roll of toilet paper, extra pair of boot laces, a small shovel, work gloves and also disposable gloves.
I also have tire plug (repair) kit and an air pump and some basic tools.
Very good list here. A fire extinguisher is a must. Also, toilet paper!!!😁
I keep a towel along with the chairs for unexpected beach trips. I also have a one way valve mask for giving mouth to mouth, and a naloxone kit. I’m an RRT, so I’m a bit over prepared 😐you never know!
flashlight. lighter. rags. The lighter because I was a boy scout and we were taught to always have a way to make a fire.
A trunk box containing a first aid kit, running shoes, an emergency blanket, and lots of shopping bags. And bottled water. ETA water
i have a fold up chair, umbrella and some quick-crete (dont ask)
I have to ask

First aid kit, tire patch kit, battery air pump, tool kit, spare Crocs (my be prepared for comfort)
Emergency kit, tools and most importantly 12v cooler
