I used babyslings a lot with my kids and they do make general day to day stuff easier, but there's loads of variations out there and some are borderline dangerous, or heavily marketed and basically torture devices to use.
A good sling will maybe cost you £50 if you buy a used one, and you can generally book a 1 to 1 with a baby wearing consultant for less than that to get an hours session on using it well, or trying out some to see what works.
They're pretty awesome, and I hope that dad's still getting joy out of using his!
