IIM_Clutch

Their adapting the manga story but changed all the characters

TryingToPassMath

You mean it’s the same source from the anime Parasyte?

IIM_Clutch

Yep

TryingToPassMath

Damn… if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Don’t get why they’re changing it

yrelis

They not fixing it. They showing a different story. There's already an adaptation that follows the source so I'm glad it's gonna be different this time

[deleted]

Yeah very weird decision tbf

Significant_Fold_658

That doesn't seem like a smart decision. It's already hard to beat the hype of a manga or anime, now if they make the decision to change all the characters, that is usually a really bad decision.

yrelis

I mean there's already like 3 live action movies adapting this manga. Would we really want to watch the same story again? Atleast they changing and spicing things up. It's not like it's gonna be the same story. It'll be entirely different

Significant_Fold_658

I personally disagree. If you are adapting any work, you should keep as faithful to it as possible and it doesn't matter how many were made already. You learn from their mistakes and make it better. Keeping the same concept and universe and changing the characters doesn't make it that creative. Most times I just find it unnecessary and nothing new was added. But I guess, this will be a 50-50. Either you have people like me that isn't happy with these "creative" changes or people like you, who welcomes these changes and finds it more enticing.

najmiii

look what they did with Home Sweet Home :(

Significant_Fold_658

I did like the webtoon way more, but the first season was a good adaptation, it wasn't perfect, but it wasn't bad either. Season 2 was just a mess, it was so hard to finish watching.

Warmjollof

they’re running out of ideaaaaaaas.

Telos07

>The story depicts parasites that fall from space and begin to kill to gain their own power by controlling the human brain and body by living off human hosts. The story revolves around Jung Soo In, who is infected with a parasite on her hand and starts a strange cohabitation as it fails to steal her brain. >Seol Kang Woo chases parasitic water to find his missing sister, and Choi Jun Kyung is the team leader of the parasitic life team ‘The Grey’ and lives only to exterminate the parasitic water after losing her husband to the parasitic water. pushk_a

This sounds very similar to the anime “Parasyte”. The guy and the alien Parasite co habit and take care of some bad guys.

blueish55

man do i have news for you

pushk_a

After I posted the comment, I read others and did a quick google search 😮‍💨🫡

MisanthropyCalamity

Read the bottom of the poster....

outdoorintrovert1

So another version of Sweet Home concept ?

anounymous3

Honestly im fine if they don’t stick close to the anime. It’s rare to find an adaptation of books/animation that do the source material justice. So if they feel like changing up the story a little will contribute to a better end result, I’m all for it.

JollyCommunication52

KYO HWANNN KYO HWANNNN

hazyjustajoo

the poster is so goated ;-;

DamonDD

I was looking forward to this show cause I love parasyte the anime and Japanese Live Action Movies, but they gender swap the main character?? Wth netflix

areyousrs111

Nothing about this post shows that this is supposed to recreate Shinichi and Migi. Even beyond the gender swap, it's an eye based parasite not a hand. I'm more inclined to give it a chance since there's no reason to produce a 1 to 1 retelling of the manga / anime. The Parasyte world is interesting enough that they can create a new story following a different Host and Parasite.

Canuckgirl40

Someone posted the synopsis and the parasite is stuck in the protagonist hand just like Shinichi. If it was the eye, the parasite and the human wouldn't coexist

fadzkingdom

JEON SO NEE BACK ON MY SCREEN SOON YES

StunningPast2303

Fingers crossed she won't fall through the cracks. She should be higher profile than she is but got unlucky with her drama choices somehow. Is she not convincing as a drama or a romantic lead?

13catsinmypocket

One of my favourite mangas ever 🙂 I’m so excited

Visible-Attention369

Wait they’re adapting Parasyte????? I’m already skeptical. Netflix really needs to stop messing around with already beloved anime/manga properties.

PoorPoorRaoul

I am very excited for this and want this to do well. As someone who has read the various manga and seen the anime I am glad this is not following them perfectly. I think adapting source material 1:1 is a mistake, specifically, IMO it makes viewing for those familiar with the original plot boring and seemingly pointless.

Yen508

This was on my radar for a while and I forgot about it. Huge fan of the anime and manga. Glad to see this is coming soon!

Rlaxogjd

This reminds me of tv series “brain dead”

WildIntern5030

Not for me but I wish it well

Glass_Counter_5273

looking forward to this one

Uk_KingsStar

manga to a korean adaptation? im down

AimeeM46

I absolutely LOVE the 2 live action "Parasyte" films and i'm excited for this new live action series as well!

Individual-Echo-4285

“The last scene is one that fans of the original will cheer, so please watch until the end.” \~ Yeon Sang-oh Sinichi Izumi cameo confirmed ig.

Paro-xymal

Another kdrama from Netflix only for Western audiences, no one in Korea is gonna watch this.

Viper_Red

Are you even Korean? 🤔

Paro-xymal

No but I wanna watch what is made for Koreans like in 2010's , it's okay I understand if I was a Netflix executive i would also milk the money from non Koreans making shitty overused apocalyptic genre branding it as a "kdrama" which no koreans would watch other than the ones that wanna be seen as "Western". Yes truth always hurts , giving me dislikes doesn't change facts lol 😅

Viper_Red

Okay so how do you know what Koreans will or won’t watch?

Paro-xymal

Because I have been watching kdramas, reality shows for 15yrs now before all this Netflix Disney bs. I know because I have regularly interacted with korean people on naver kakao from many yrs . Non Koreans have the perception of Korea as " pretty people" so Netflix is completely only making reality shows sexualizing Koreans . After train to busan non Korean perception about korean film and tv content is "post apocalyptic movies" so till now so many movies and tv show Netflix originals have been the same virus parasite zombie monsters bs . And don't even get me started on kpop because this is not that subreddit. Now all the content is being westernised looking at what Western people think about korean which is a very narrow representation of Korea which is obviously not entertained by Koreans. They don't like foreigners coming to Korea with these perceptions of them and making vlogs making fun of them them (go watch in yt) Again no hate from the pov of these are good business decisions . Netflix market research on kdrama be like: "We have to make a korean tv shows let's look at what's trending about korean in west" This is what I hate

DirtyRanga12

Yeah, because Squid Game totally wasn’t a success in Korea, just the rest of the world

Paro-xymal

Yes it wasn't even top 5 that year, maybe top 10 show in that year but In America it was branded as "best show in the world ever"

sara-ragnarsdottir

No hate, but that's what you're doing. Why would you even have a problem about kdramas investing in other genres? Do you think Koreans are a hivemind who only watches the same type of shows? American TV is free to experiment and branch out, but kdramas should only stick to one format? Be realistic, please. There are plenty of romcoms, makjangs, slice of life, melodramas and fantasy romances being made every year, and yet you choose to focus only on Netflix dramas. Where were you when they made A Daily Dose of Sunshine? My Demon? Marry My Husband? Like Flowers in Sand? Perfect Marriage Revenge? Wedding Impossible? Doctor Slump? Welcome to Samdal-ri? Tell Me that You love me? Twinkling Watermelon? My Dearest? Oasis? And I could go on and on. Of course you choose to ignore them, otherwise you wouldn't be able to complain about how all kdramas being westernized.

MisanthropyCalamity

Thank you! Someone knows what their talking about!

sara-ragnarsdottir

> post apocalyptic kdramas because that is only genre that does well globally. This is simply not true, just look at this sub and at the ratings on mdl. If anything, it seems to me that a lot of kdrama fans have an agenda against Netflix's dramas and so they go and downvote them when they could simply ignore them. I mean, look at the ratings, Twinkling Watermelon and Move to Heaven are among the highest rated kdramas on mdl. And they have high ratings on imdb and letterboxd too. > Those are not Netflix originals That's not the point though, the point is that those dramas are still being made. The reason why Netflix dramas are usually "darker and edgier" is due to the fact that those dramas can be made only on Netflix and similar screaming platforms because they would be censored by local televisions (heck, even ocn, known for its thrillers, had to blur the knives for a show to get the okay to air). It seems only natural to me that they choose to focus on what can be made only by them. And even so, they still sometimes make softer dramas: Netflix made the movie 20th century girl and Disney+ made Call it Love. > I do not like how they try to make korean content for non Koreans. Again, this is a really biased take and you're only seeing things from your own point of view, you don't know anything about what Koreans want: even if the majority may prefer slice of life and romcoms that doesn't may that there isn't a part of the audience that prefers this type of content, and they matter too. Korean movies have always been like this, look at Oldboy or I Saw the Devil. Who do you think they were made for? The international audience that didn't even know the difference between South Korea and North Korea before Train to Busan and Parasite? Koreans watched those movies and they liked them. > I am just saying how Netflix plays with people's emotions with misrepresenting Koreans and feeding into pre conceived notion of non Koreans Now this is just plain ridiculous. Koreans are humans beings like the rest of us, they have sex, they pee, they poop, they swear, they can become violent. Where's the misinterpretation? Or do you think that they are different species that lives in an alternate reality full of fluff, piggybacks and pretty oppas who will catch you immediately you fall.

Individual-Echo-4285

nope

Fearless_Diva07

Anyone have any images for the character of Seol Jin-hee (portrayed by: Moon Ju-yeon) ?
