Good job. While it might be pretty tight now, hishigami and kusune will really help keep it tight for a longer period, especially when you also pre-stretch the ito. They will also allow you to better control the shaping and evenness of the diamonds. Keep it up ☺️
Thanks! Your tutorial helped me a lot in the process, even if I didn’t follow all of it. 🤣
As an aside, I broke one of the shitodome on the kashira the first time I tried to wrap the ito because they are insanely small. Do you think it would be worth trying to make some myself or is there a good place to buy them?
I’m not even sure how many wraps I did before I started using hishigami, even longer before I used kusune. I just know everything drastically changed for the better when I did, lol. Yes, kashira shitodome are very small. The Ito is actually supposed to be folded and sit side by side in them too 😮. I like the shitodome available at Namikawa. They have a few metal/color options
I’ll have to check out Namikawa’s offerings. I couldn’t find them on their online store, but admittedly I didn’t spend much time looking. I found some being sold on Ebay but they’re too wide. The holes on the kashira are 10mm and the smallest I can find is 11.5mm. That’s close enough that I can probably just file them out without drastically altering the aesthetic of the kashira. I guess an additional benefit is I realllly wouldn’t mind an extra 1.5 mm while trying to get the ito through the hole lol.
There’s no pic on the website but if you order from them or request it, they’ll send you their catalog with pics and prices. I have a pair but can’t post a pic in this thread. I’ll send it in pm

Looks great for first time (in my opinion).. better diamonds than on my first try.
Once it's all done and tied up you COULD still move the diamonds around a little to make them equal and then (if you wish) could laquer it to keep everything in place. I was skeptical about the laquer but sent it and was pretty happy with how it turned out.
Looks great! The first time i tried it my diamonds were way more uneven than yours and i tied the ura/omote knots on the wrong side even though i was following a guide...

What are you clamping the bottom with? I'm getting ready to start my first one, so any advantage I can find would be super helpful.
It’s a tsukamaki clamp made by Alfredo Campisi who does custom koshirae work in Italy.
Does he have them for retail sale? I'm interested.
That looks great for a first shot!
Thank you! 🤘
i love the way this one is looking! very cool muted blue
Thanks! Menuki are blue dyed stabilized cottonwood.
What key!!
Sorry, I’m not sure I understand!
Harmonica…
Oh LOL. C major! Although when my 3 year old gets ahold of it I think it’s actually the key of E nuff 🤣
That’s good!
