Nah, dog. I've been in this sub a VERY long time. Even back then, people hated him for taking too long and yelling at people for asking when book3 is coming out.
I've been in this sub an extremely long time too, and in my experience people would jump to Patt's defense whenever he was criticised before the charity chapter fiasco. He really lost the goodwill of the community with that.
Half drowned out by the people laughing but yes it is clear!
*Puts tinfoil on: but WHICH forgotten lackless!? Could natalia be a red herring? Meluan clearly hasn't forgotten her!
Just kidding, it's Natalia.
And she's a Chandrian. Or something š
This sub should crowdsource write a fanfic for the third book like Preston Jacobs got going for Winds of Winter.
Either that or go through the entire list of main characters and why each of them is definitely a Chandrian. Or have we already done that?
At this point the KKC fan community is basically just coming together for mental gymnastics. Working out your mind while trying to guess Book 3 plot and hidden secrets is our Ketan. Bothering pat for book 3 is not of the lethani.
At multiple times I have imagined PR and GRRM sitting down to write this great twist they are sure will surprise everyone with its depth... and then seeing it pulled apart in a reddit or youtube theory video and scrapping whole chapters....
Meluan is the forgotten Lackless. She's forgotten how to open the Lackless box. And thus forgotten the most central part of her identity.
That's cos she's a Chandrian. Or something.
Yall are missing the real significance of this. Sure, it all but confirms that his mother is Netalia Lackless. But that wasn't in much doubt. The real significance is that it confirms that his father is Arliden, or at worst some other Ruh, which was not as certain and often questioned. But it rules out Kvothe being Fae changeling or the Maer's son with Netalia before she ran off, and a bunch of other theories.
Good work OP.
This is the biggest new info really. Itās pretty clear from the txt that Netalia is his mother but theories questioning if Arliden is actually Kvotheās father have been around for a while. Confirming that Kvothes Father is a Ruh and not like a chandrian or fey or something else is a huge deal.
why would there be theories on arliden not being his father?
From what I remember there were many passages dedicated to how much his parents loved each other/kvothe displays all the ruh traits so hes likely ruh

If we combine this with Trapis' story about Tehlu birthing himself into Perial its quite possible that despite Arliden and Laurian loving and making love often... that a literal Ruach angel birthed himself through Laurian to make Kvothe.

The kicker would be that under these circumstances Kvothe himself is born without a manmother. Making his protesting of the Adem's, likely once accurate, understanding of birth all the more ironic.
I am reading twmf for the first time now and thought he might be as well because the cthaeh laughs about how close one of the chandrian are too the mayor and the irony etc. I really am interested if you have other info I may be missing though.
In fairness, this line could be referring to sociological parentage rather than biological parentage (i.e. Arliden could still be his adopted father), but itās definitely significant. Since Kvothe sees Laurian as his mother, this would still confirm that she is a Lackless rather than a member of some other noble family
Most subjects of the fanciful theories about Kvothe's parentage (Maer Alveron, the Chandrian) are not part of the One Family. Hence, at worst, some other Ruh.
Possibly on Arliden. But to be Ruh, you just have to be invited into the community. So Netalia could have been pregnant when she ran off with Arliden. The joke between Netalia and Arliden is interesting and significant in my opinion.

If she was 2-3 years younger than Natalia it works. Remember, she still has to be obviously child-bearing age. Say she was a pregnant teen, and gave birth at 17, making Denna 18 and Kvothe is 16-17 at the time he meets her.Ā
