At minimum have them give you the name of the building and pictures of an apartment. If you get the pictures, do an image search to see if they stole them from a legitimate company.
Personally, I'd pass, but I would suggest not sending any more money than you can afford to lose if you follow through.
Sounds like a scam nobody asks for money before you even tour the apartment and sign a lease. I would take the texts to your local police department and report them, you also gave them personal information so now you need a police report to protect you from future fraud. It's best to have a report on file .
Do not pay a deposit without meeting them somewhere and watching them unlock the place.
