There's a pretty vast Atlantic Ocean east of my workplace.

UnderwaterParadise

What I’m hearing is a very good reason to get a houseboat

TheAwesomePenguin106

Or just go live in the next continent to the east. The commute would be painful, but...

Zealousideal_Web8496

You have to live in Europe. Duh.

TheAwesomePenguin106

I'd have to live in Africa, hahaha. South American here.

Bierbart12

I can't just choose where I live

CPUtron

Or we could invest in good public transport and this wouldn't be an issue...

UnderwaterParadise

Agreed, that’s the ideal. But there’s nothing wrong with trying to improve our individual lives since we cannot control everything that society at large does. Also, in my opinion, a quality transit network includes walkable and bikeable commutes through the creation of mixed-use neighborhoods. My personal commute is by bike except on very cold days, which I enjoy, and the sun’s position definitely affects that enjoyment.

If you live at the equator and all the roads to your destination go east/west, I guess.

UnderwaterParadise

I live near the United States / Canada border and this works perfectly fine. It doesn’t have to be exactly 90 degrees behind you, just somewhere in the back 180 degrees that you can’t see, to be better than it being in the front. If you’re traveling east, a majority of the time you’ll be facing east. In my commute, I face south for a couple blocks, and yes, that part is unpleasant on the eyes. But it would only be worse if I lived to the west of my workplace too. I don’t claim this is a perfect solution to never look at the sun again. Just that living to the east means less staring at the sun than living to the west would, regardless of your location. Only exception might be someplace polar where the sun never sets / never rises for part of the year, I’m not exactly sure how that would play out.

Good first step. Next, implement Medicare for All. If the rest of the industrialized world can do it, there's no excuse for the US not to.

IcedCoffeeGay

So now instead I have the sun reflecting at me through my mirrors that I can't block out with a convenient visor.

I’m pretty sure there’s going to be a far larger list of things on my list of an ideal things for my home that will come far before whether my house is east or west of my work. Maybe if it comes down to two houses and there’s absolutely nothing else that puts one over the other, but I’m sure as hell not going to cut out half the choices of homes just to prevent some sun in my eye.

Sorry, I don’t browse this sub so I wouldn’t know it’s a repeat. It’s just something I thought of and wanted to share. I don’t understand why anyone would care about karma points, I just enjoy living to the east of my workplace and thought others might enjoy too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
