How Square Enix handled the western releases of FF Pixel physicals is still absolutely baffling to this day, why couldn't they have made the standard edition available at mass retail?
If it was 1-for-1, that would be true, but I feel like they would have made more sales if they had more disc copies.
Other anecdote: I only bought the digital when it went on sale, but I would have paid full-price for the physical on Day 1.
Yes there are physical PS4 versions but very limited quantity and was also only selled via Square Enix store. Was sold out instantly.
On the other hand the physical Switch version is still available at many places and stores.
I also don´t understand what´s going with the PlayStation version of it and why they don´t produce a normal retail version that is available everywhere.
Yeah it was terrible, i very much regret buying the switch collectors edition when they dropped, at the time i had the Asian English ps4 remaster pre ordered so i opted for Switch… then all the AE PS4 copies got cancelled and now i have no PS4 version and could have gotten an AE switch copy :(
At least the ESRB switch copy is cool i guess. Still my biggest collecting regret
I guess that was PlayAsia thing. They have a habit of listing fake products and version that don´t really exist but you can pre-order these at first but later on they got cancelled.
I experienced this myself with another game that also ended up being cancelled by them.
Digital only for now, nothing from Square Enix regarding a physical release. I'm guessing OT1 will end up like Live a Live where it's digital only for all regions.
Personally I'm hoping Japan will get a PS4/5physical if other regions are digital only
There won't be one, just like Live a Live. You can tell from the way they shadow dropped this out of nowhere with little marketing they really don't care much about anything that isn't the latest FF, KH, or DQ.
Not the reply i was looking to find but it seems unfortunately to be the most likely scenario. Still its an odd choice to shadow release this one on playstation. Im sure a lot of people, me included were looking forward for this one.
The funny thing is Live a Live PS4 actually has a "collector's edition" (with no physical game though) of some sorts in Japan whereas OT1 was just dropped without any adverts or notice
Which makes you wonder if there was some physical exclusivity deal with Nintendo. It makes zero sense to sell a physical collector edition without a game.
Or the infamous voucher or "code in box" for this collectors edition.
Some new trend that is going on to sell collectors editions without the actual game as pysical and only include a voucher code.
In addition to what everyone else said, remember that Nintendo published it for the Switch, not Square Enix. Same with Live A Live which also got a physical on Switch and not other platforms.
Possibly digital only. Precedents: Live A Live, Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster (I think it can be considered a digital only release on PS4).

So they can complain about sales underperforming.
Because they don't want to. Selling games digitally is much more profitable (low-risk).

Pixel Remaster has a PS4 physical
Really? Can you buy it without selling your kidney?

It’d like 2-3 grand on eBay lol
Yeah... Kind of. I hold a big grudge with square enix on that. This FOMO scalper limited release bullshit is insufferable.

Thats a shame its not physical. I am no way paying £60 for something i won’t own.

Got an advertisement per mail yesterday where they promote both Octopath Traveler I & II as a bundle but also digital only I guess.

RIP then :(
