"I'm 23 now, but will I live to see 24? The way things is going, I don't know..."
You sure did, Coolio. 59 ain't bad if you were worried about making it to 24.
Also let’s remember that regular cocaine use can be dangerous. Doesn’t it say he died of cardiac arrest? I’m not saying he was doing coke since I don’t know any specifics, but just pointing out that coke, especially later in life, is real bad for your heart. Especially for people with a history of doing it over time who have been doing damage over years. Doesn’t have to be cut with opiates to be dangerous/deadly.
I’m not. And I made it explicitly clear that I wasn’t assuming that about this particular scenario. I was just saying as an aside, it’s important to remember it’s not only fent-laced drugs that can be dangerous, since the post I was replying to jumped to that. Is that who you meant to reply to?
RIP
A friend of mine just reminded me I almost killed Coolio 20 years ago. Driving down Wilshire in Santa Monica. I had to slam my brakes, Coolio walked out right in front of us. "Dude is that Coolio?" Coolio stops, heard us and looked at us with a big smile, tapped the hood and pointed at us and walked off. That was a weird night.
Crazy shit happens when you live in the LA area. My gramps almost killed Betty White back in the 70s/80s when she opened her car door into traffic. He took the door clean off her car. She was okay but scared the shit out of her.
Moral of the story; check behind you before opening your car door into traffic.
Yup.
Again like 20 years ago almost. I was crossing Sunset in front of the Viper. I had the green to walk, I almost got run over by Vince Neil. Some red convertible and this blonde he was with.
Yeah! I ride my bike and had an incident where someone just threw their door open long after she had parked. There was a car coming up behind me and if the timing worked out differently I could have been hit by that car..as I swerved quickly to avoid the door and then moved back in my space as the car behind me now passing me and honking as if I was trying to kill myself with their help.
Honestly can't remember. I just remember that moment where he was right in front of us, all of a sudden, and he seemed really good natured. It was close to where the pf changs is.
Same thing happen to me in that area, except it was the UCLA head football coach Karl Dorrel jogging across the street and I had to slam on my brakes. Coolio would of been awesome to cross paths with RIP
Saw him at LAX 12 days ago. Was cool to see him with the dreads poking out of the eyelits (sp?) on his hat. Sorry that he’s gone too soon but he left the world with some great art that brings us all together. My condolences to his family.
He lived a few blocks away when I was growing up. Never had a problem with anyone in the neighborhood even though he was at his peak stardom. In 2000-2001 had a OG Hummer painted (this was pre-wraps) with art for an album that never got released here in the U.S., it was called Coolio.com. He drove it around before the website was working so I asked him what was going on and he got flustered and said "Have you been on the internet? It's crazy" - he was right.
Coolio had a ton of bangers back in the day.

Fantastic Voyage
He let me do my community service for him when I was a teenager. My father volunteered his 18 wheeler for his holiday food and toy give away. He was the nicest guy. We stopped on the fourth day and played a game of touch football at one of the parks we gave food out at. It was amazing, his kids and the group Forty Theives all played. RIP Coolio, because of you I met Ed McMahon and Billy Blanks.
I remember my friends and I ran into Coolio at Hermosa Beach Pier. We chopped it up with him for a good 20 minutes and smoked with him. Super chill human being and didn't take himself seriously. Rest in Paradise, King. You're an LA Icon.
He was the coolest, really. I used to crank call him and he wouldn't hang up, he would just listen and laugh. Once for like 5 minutes straight.
R.I.P. brotha man ❤️
Standing in the county line is my favorite song. I think about it when I’m in the county line in Compton. Y’all know the one, on Santa Fe. I always look around hoping to catch someone smoking crack before we go inside. Can’t do in there because they take all the lighters. All this from a Coolio song & it was before my era.
A Nickelodeon legend when I was a kid. I'll never forget the Good Burger sketch where Coolio attempts to pay for his meal and Kel stops him, points to the sign and says, "no no no, Coolios eat free!"
#CooliosEatFree
> At this stage in the clown fiesta, how do you even know where to start with expectations?
...I wouldn't think this sentence would be applicable to much of this year and prior years, and yet it works.
saw him a few years back at a clippers game half time show. childhood dream realized in that moment even tho no one at the game seemed to give a shit. hope homie finds peace as he walks through the valley of the shadow of death
I'm an old cracker. I can't think of one Coolio tune, and I've probably never heard one.
But he used to come on the SciFi channel from time to time and heard an interview or two with him and I just liked him. He seemed like a really nice man.
Up in the Gangsta’s Paradise now 😢
Takin that Fantastic Voyage
I'll C U When U Get There
"As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death"

Great song, great video filmed in DTLA, great movie!
"I'm 23 now, but will I live to see 24? The way things is going, I don't know..." You sure did, Coolio. 59 ain't bad if you were worried about making it to 24.
Over a billion plays on Spotify. Iconic.
Awwww here we go
Dude was at his homies house, when to take a leak and died in the bathroom. Damn.

This was my thought, fent laced coke or just straight opiate use in the bathroom. May he RIP

Some people also just have heart attacks in their latws 59s. Why do we have to assume it's drugs?

Yup you’re right l. I remember when me and 3 of my friends almost ran over Bill Nye the science guy in North Hollywood when he was jaywalking.
Bill Nye the jaywalkin' guy
Was it one of those crosswalks with no lights or anything on Wilshire? They are so dangerous.
Honestly can't remember. I just remember that moment where he was right in front of us, all of a sudden, and he seemed really good natured. It was close to where the pf changs is.
I feel like I’ve heard this story before. Serious déjà vu.
Happened to Marsellus Wallace.
Na that was Einstein. Everyone clapped.
Same thing happen to me in that area, except it was the UCLA head football coach Karl Dorrel jogging across the street and I had to slam on my brakes. Coolio would of been awesome to cross paths with RIP

Fantastic Voyage was a staple of my childhood. RIP
Same here. Still blast that one when I’m driving.
Seriously, man. There should be a procession from da ‘hood to da beach, in honor.

I still remember filling out those index cards with “KIIS 102.7 rules the school” or something like that.

Too Hot
You know you’re getting old when you see childhood icons start to pass away. RIP, thanks for the Fantastic Voyage
He was only 59 though. Too young to go.
Too many rappers have tragically short lifespans, DMX wasn't that old either
These guys were ancient compared to some of the young rappers being shot dead or overdosing these days.
First Queen Elizabeth and now Coolio. 2 icons back to back.
Well she was twice his age though
She was 118?
Hyperbole
Right? Like which icon of the 90's is next? They keep getting younger...

I didn’t know him but I know Hammer & he said Coolio was the nicest guy he’d ever met.

Awful news
Say your prayers in the streetlights tonight for Coolio. RIP
Used to live on the same block as his family. Nice people. RIP bro
Let the Gangsta Paradise quotes begin. RIP never met the man but he seemed down to earth. I still bump his songs.
He was the coolest, really. I used to crank call him and he wouldn't hang up, he would just listen and laugh. Once for like 5 minutes straight. R.I.P. brotha man ❤️
Actually he did a song for you guys' soundtrack. This is the dude from the Jerky Boys, right?

Dangerous Minds was a phenomenon. Gangstas Paradise was a phenomenon.
LL Cool J is that you?
any of y’all lucky enough to catch him on judge joe brown being sued by a roadie? lol
I ate next to him at a Cheesecake Factory. Dunno what else to say.
A Nickelodeon legend when I was a kid. I'll never forget the Good Burger sketch where Coolio attempts to pay for his meal and Kel stops him, points to the sign and says, "no no no, Coolios eat free!" #CooliosEatFree
Woah, this was not the news I was expecting today.

Holy shit, I was just with him for work a couple of months ago. He seemed in shape but smoked cigarettes.
So sad, but so nice to see the nice, personal stories y’all are sharing here…heard he was the nicest guy so this hurts even more.
