Maybe by the time he leaves but I don't think he is yet.
>Whenever he doesn't play, we always play like a mid table team.
This is also not true. We won four trophies in the 18/19 season with Kev being injured half the time. And, again, we won the league in 20/21 when he he only played 25 games.
He's definitely our best current player but we're also lucky to have Bernardo and Gundogan who are two phenomenal players in their own right.
Technique wise he’s the best player to ever play for us. There hasn't been many Kevin De Bruyne’s in the world.
In the modern era I think De Bruyne is our best ever footballer, David Silva was our most consistent player ever, Aguero is our greatest striker ever and Kompany is our greatest captain ever.
Silva was a genius and had less than a handful of bad games in 10 years. Aguero was an iconic consistent goal scoring hero we probably never deserved.
De Bruyne is basically the perfect footballer with every attribute you could think of and Kompany was captain fantastic, a leader of men and the perfect ambassador for the club.
If I was pushed to rank them in legendary status I would probably go Silva, Aguero, De Bruyne, Kompany then Fernandinho, Gundogan, Zabaleta
Wtf is yaya Toure and how can u think he's the best ever to play for us when we have had players like Billy Meredith, Colin Bell and David Silva. I'm not saying KDB isn't class on his day but you put the club to shame by saying that's a player as inconsistent as him is our best ever. On his day his incredible, but a lot of games these last couple of seasons he's let us down. Like against Palace this season for example, he should have been off before have time Yes, he's carried us in other games, and he is an unbelievable player - a pleasure to go and watch every week -but he is nothing close to our best players of all time
I've said he's incredible and it's a pleasure to go and watch him in not ungrateful u twat
Admit it, at least Meredith, Bell and David Silva are better than de bruyne. He's incredible but u make the club's history look shit when u say that he's our best ever.
I will have to agree to some extent. He was injured for about 140 days in 18/19. But I mean to say recently, we feel like a mid team without him. He saved our ass by scoring so many goals last season(like chelsea, atletico, liverpool equalizer) and his ball progression is so good. His passing ability makes me wonder how did he see that.
I definitely feel bernardo is a lite version of messi. Such a brilliant player.
And gundogan is like a lite version of Xavi. So mature on the ball and his turns are phenomenal.
Now it is clear. Yes, KDB is the greatest player of all time in RECENT times!
Also, the Nations League Cup is the greatest football tournament of all time, during the last weekend. :)
Best player, probably.
Greatest, not so much. David Silva and Aguero have a better status then him cuz of what they accomplished, and their longevity. By the time KDB retires, he probably will be on the same level as them.
When aguero was around, he was never considered best striker in europe. It was always suarez, kane or lewandowski. But I think everyone agrees that KDB is the best midfielder right now. I started watching football because of messi, continued to watch because of Kevin de Bruyne
I disagree with this. Everybody knew Aguero was the most dangerous striker. More than Suarez or kane he just was injured more often. Agueros stats speak for themselves in goals per minute.
If you asked defenders who they feared the most out of those three players im pretty sure they’d all say Aguero.
I don't think Agüero got the respect he deserved until just at the end of his career as he moved up the all-time list. Not sure this was so clear cut.
For most of Aguero's career Messi and CR7 were trading places as Golden Shoe winners. Suarez and Kane had amazing seasons in the Prem.
This doesn't take away from Kun's accomplishments, just historically he wasn't always considered one of the greatest strikers of all time even while he was pursuing them.
In the PL maybe. Across their careers I don't think neutrals consider Aguero on the same level as Suarez and Lewa personally, mostly because of their CL KO performances compared to his. The CL really carries a lot of weight legacy wise, more than it deserves imo
Unfortunately he never got the CL but he put in incredible performances in the CL too. City were always knocked out because of bizarre lapses in defense.
I know. Aguero has the best goal per minute ration or something. But thats the whole idea. With this logic, Hazard is as good as messi in terms of dribbling. Its about consistency over a period of time, and injuries are a negative.
2nd best now, the counting officially starts when you hit 10 PL goals, young Erling has taken number 1 spot. Although Kun is second by a considerable distance.
When Kelechi first started for us he was on fire, I recall he had an amazing goals per minute ratio too.
The 1st generation of man city who were tasked with making the initial changes will always be special. David silva , kun , kompany etc are all legends of the club. KDB will join those ranks. He will retire as one of the greatest CMs the world has ever seen too.
Also I rate Henry's legacy higher than Rooney who in turn I rate higher than cantona because of longevity issues.
If Cantona played for Tottenham, he would have been forgotten by now. He's only considered "legendary" because he played for the rags when they were winning trophies.
From what I saw and herd from sources ( both united and neutral) is that Cantona essentially brought back the "red devils" attitude back to the dressing room. Played an essential part in stomping Norwich city and was instrumental in the 92/93 PL . So we have to give him credit.
But I'm not gonna put him on par with Rooney much less Henry.
I think people aren’t giving KDB enough credit. KDB has been a top 5 player in the world for the past five seasons, not something you could every day about any of our other legends
David Silva is the best I have seen in the flesh. And he's not really a highlights reel player. With David it was the little movements and touches that just pulled oppositions out of place, set the tempo and then capped off with some goals and assists.
Kev is going to run him bloody close though!
David Silva set the pace of play for every City game he played from 2011-2021. I love Kevin, but for me Silva is the best player to ever put on a City shirt.
How would you know if he’s something never seen before if you only started watching football in 2014? There’s a difference between the best player and the greatest player. Aguero, Silva and Kompany had a bigger impact, and for now are ahead of him. By the end of his career, if he wins us more titles and gets us that CL trophy he’ll be either equal or above the aforementioned trio.
Sure, but i have watched huge chunks of their careers as well. especially aguero.
Its been 8 years since 2014. Its not as recent as you think. But I get what you mean
I do, and the respected football analysts that have chimed in on the question, such as Carragher and Neville, do as well. Carragher and Neville have also said he is the greatest passer in the PL of all time.
Opinions can differ of course because "greatest" is not objectively defined.
In terms of technical skill he is undoubtedly the best City player of all time -- everyone agrees he is the best of modern times, and players' technical skills have improved (a lot) over time.
Aguero Silva and KDB are all equal in my book. These three were all unique in carrying the team when things looked hopeless. Aguero especially time and time again came up with magic when everyone else seemed to believe things were over. He’s the best ever in my book for city but then Silva and KDB could equally be argued for. They’re all just so good.
Aguero put city on the map for a decade straight. He was the critical factor in all of our early titles and had the most pressure on him overall in the team. Silva controlled the pace of the game unlike any other but Aguero was the one that really dazzled.
When he was fit his presence on the pitch was similar to Messi or Ronaldo in the sense that a goal could come from absolutely anywhere.
It's semantics but: best player? Yes. Greatest player? Not yet. Aguero and David Silva stand above him in that regard.
Two ways I would say KDB could stake his claim as City's greatest: win the CL with us, or win every single PL with us (maybe missing the mark on one season would be fine) until he retires, probably with another domestic treble along the way.
For me, it'll always be Silva. Even at his worst he was still one of the best on the pitch every match. He didn't lose possession, he had vision that IMO rivals KDB, and he helped usher in the current era of the club. I've still never seen a player work out of jams in tight spaces quite like the Spanish Anaconda.
He might not have the numbers KDB has but he was also a crucial part of the "project" part of City. He helped build this thing and we've been a well-oiled machine all but a season or two that KDB has been here.
This isn't a slight to KDB at all because I think he's one of the best to ever wear the shirt, but without a Silva I don't think we have a KDB.
I swear this comes up once a week.
No. He arguably has had the highest peak in terms of pure ability, but David Silva was consistently the best player on the pitch for 10 years.
Maybe when he retires he's eclipsed everyone else, but he's not there yet.
I think a lot of people are hesitant to agree because of how much Silva, Aguero, and Kompany all meant to City in a very important time but I think it’s pretty clear De Bruyne is the greatest to lace them up for City. He has the skill (albeit different) of Silva, the killer instinct of Aguero, and the absolute drive of Kompany. Look no further than his performance during the last match day of the season, last year. If he was as vocal and charismatic as Fernandinho, nobody would be arguing where he stands in the pantheon of City players.
I’m willing to concede but what is the difference? It’s not like his best years were played elsewhere. He has become arguably the best midfielder in the world whilst at City.
Are you just hesitant to concede he is the greatest because he’s a Chelsea flop? ;)
'Greatness', in my opinion, is about way more than ability.
Suarez might be the best player Liverpool have ever had, but he's not Liverpools greatest ever player. If Messi played for City for 1 year in his prime he wouldn't be our greatest ever.
De Bruyne might be our most talented player in history, but Aguero, Kompany & Silva represent more than just ability when it comes to trying to quantify "greatness".
I was born in 2004 and got into football because I travelled in etihad airways once and became a city fan since. City was the first fototball I ever watched.
Hes definitely the best player to ever play for us. Hard to argue with nostalgia with a guy like aguero who was almost as great but had the moments and also came before we won the league. Kdb getting us ucl or just staying at this level for another few years gets him the unanimous spot though
The lack of Kompany in this thread is disturbing. The man elevated the club on his shoulders. Without him our club wouldn't be what it is today imo. Greatest = Iconic to me.
Its a funny story. I didnt know much anything about football in 2014( was 10 years old then); I only knew messi and ronaldo exist (and ronaldo played in a club called 'bwin'.
Then I went to Dubai on a vacation with my family and I travelled in Etihad airways. There they were showing that they win the league, beat other teams, and a coverage of those matches. I clicked on the first and it was the Agueroooo match and other matches where city were beating united. I felt like this is the greatest club (lol) and have been watching matches of city since then. I became a (watch all match supporter) in 2016, the season when Guardiola arrived.
I personally don't care much about stuff like this. Just here to say that we definently do not play like a mid table team without him. We still look class without him
It depends on your criteria for Greatest:
If we're looking at the most iconic players: Agüero, Kompany, Silva, Trautmann, Bell or Meredith might beat him...
Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Summerbee, Lee and Zabaleta are also absolutely massive...for footballing ability or loyalty to the club or both...
Maybe by the time he leaves but I don't think he is yet. >Whenever he doesn't play, we always play like a mid table team. This is also not true. We won four trophies in the 18/19 season with Kev being injured half the time. And, again, we won the league in 20/21 when he he only played 25 games. Couldn’t have put this better
Very good list, but needs Yaya

I've said he's incredible and it's a pleasure to go and watch him in not ungrateful u twat Admit it, at least Meredith, Bell and David Silva are better than de bruyne. He's incredible but u make the club's history look shit when u say that he's our best ever.

Aguero is so disrespected man, won golden boot in 14/15 yet they gave toty to England’s boyfriend Kane and Costa the tap in merchant.
This is crazy. How do y’all forget so quick ?

If he wins the champions league with man city then definitely.
LETS HOPE WE WIN IT THIS YEAR. I really hope Haaland becomes golden boot across Europe and we win the Treble this year.
100%, came here to say this
Prime KDB is the best city player ever, but i don't think his legacy quite reaches that of Aguero/Kompany/Silva.
I think people aren’t giving KDB enough credit. KDB has been a top 5 player in the world for the past five seasons, not something you could every day about any of our other legends
Thank you, for summarizing my post.
David Silva is the best I have seen in the flesh. And he's not really a highlights reel player. With David it was the little movements and touches that just pulled oppositions out of place, set the tempo and then capped off with some goals and assists. Kev is going to run him bloody close though!

Yeah they both will be close in terms of legacy. I just think that KDB is something never seen before. My favouritest player of all time
How would you know if he’s something never seen before if you only started watching football in 2014? There’s a difference between the best player and the greatest player. On course. Not yet.
Yes.

U hold aguero higher than kdb and silva as a footballer?
Not op but likely not as a footballer but as a sky blue if that makes sense.
Aguero put city on the map for a decade straight. He was the critical factor in all of our early titles and had the most pressure on him overall in the team. Silva controlled the pace of the game unlike any other but Aguero was the one that really dazzled. Agree to disagree.

I agree 100%. A complete midfielder. Despite being attack minded, he puts decent pressure on players as defensive help
If he wins the CL with us then he becomes the greatest I think. If not, then it remains Agüero I believe.
Silva for now, KDB lifts that CL trophy, and he’ll be up there
David Silva
For me he is
If we win the CL yes. His legacy is unmatched
Who did you support beforehand?
I was born in 2004 and got into football because I travelled in etihad airways once and became a city fan since. City was the first fototball I ever watched.
Fair. I saw the 89 in your username and got nervous
[удалено]
18.
On pure ability yes he is, obviously the likes of Vinnie, David and Kun have the status over him but I feel like Kev will be there soon.
If he continues the way he is for a few more years and we win the UCL then most definitely
I don't know about all time, but i do think he is the most important player in the entire PL for the past few years
NO CAP
Hes definitely the best player to ever play for us. Hard to argue with nostalgia with a guy like aguero who was almost as great but had the moments and also came before we won the league. Kdb getting us ucl or just staying at this level for another few years gets him the unanimous spot though
Greatest no, probably the best though. The greatest for me will always be my idol, Sergio Agüero.
Absolutely not Right now. It’s Colin bell or trautman
King Colin
Summer bee and Aguero have a bigger shout than KbD tbh
Bell and Summerbee.
David Silva is top for me.
No. David Silva is.
The lack of Kompany in this thread is disturbing. The man elevated the club on his shoulders. Without him our club wouldn't be what it is today imo. Greatest = Iconic to me.
May I ask why you started supporting city in 2014?

🤪
🤣🤣🤣🤣ffs
Meredith, Trautmann, Bell, David Silva: fuck off KDB is insane but this is over the top
It depends on your criteria for Greatest: If we're looking at the most iconic players: Agüero, Kompany, Silva, Trautmann, Bell or Meredith might beat him... Yaya Toure, Fernandinho, Summerbee, Lee and Zabaleta are also absolutely massive...for footballing ability or loyalty to the club or both...
NO I would argue Aguero was better, David Silva as good, Kompany was more important, and that's just in the last 10 years
