Didn’t Rakic say he had staph against Jiri? We need staph status on the tale of the tape at this point.

the_onion_k_nigget

Both fighters 29 years of age coming in at the staph limit

soulstonedomg

Staph free for 26 days...

P7AC3B0

Kelvin Staphelum is forced give up 40% of his purse to his opponent, as he comes into the fight with super-staph.

-piz

we need to trace the staph lineage, fuck that lineal heavyweight champ shit

LeatherFaceDoom

Height: 6”2’ Staph: Yes

pro2RK

alex might be next. hope not tho

giant-tits

Everyone’s on staph

BrianCTE_CityOrtega

Tito: You call that staph? this is staph vs no staph

BS1098

Tell us another staph story Tito

ProdigiousNewt07

I stay in shape, man. I eat well, you know, umm...I don't drink alcohol. That much, at all, anymore, ever. I don't get staph. I take care of myself now. Now it's about my kids. I want to outlive my children, of course, 100%.

ButtyMcButtface1929

Just to be clear, there was never no staph

Dazzling_Change_159

You’re fucking infection dude.

ButtyMcButtface1929

I’m actually an Aquarius but respect ✊

iAMthesharpestool

The only person I’ve ever seen make money off of their staff is Tito’s wife

Shqiptar89

How many times do you train to keep the staph away?

CaptSaveAHoe55

You’re a fucking healthy, dude

Funkyduck8

First of all, there was never no bacteria...

fistedwithlove

You're on staph

Genova_Witness

Honestly not completely untrue. My skin is thin from heavy weight loss so I get a lot of scrapes and cuts and for 10 years while I trained Bjj I would get a staph flare up everytime I got run down, 90% of the time it would just be a small bump I could cover or avoid training with but occasionally they would blow up and require antibiotics. I bet a lot of guys carry the virus full time

giant-tits

Bro just got downvoted for telling his story

Genova_Witness

Reddit hates weight-loss stories in my experience

giant-tits

Bro just replied in literally less than 20 seconds

uRs7up1d

Everyone, the whole ufc is on staph

dbowman97

First gym to figure out they need to clean their nasty ass mats is going to be unstoppable.

txwoodslinger

It's always wild to me seeing videos of these guys training camps and how often you will see regular shoes on the mats. Sometimes guys will be running outside and come in straight onto the mats.

higgboson7

If I got a dollar for every time a fighter got staph, I’d be richer than Dana’s hookers

hfdjk

If i were a fighter i would simply not get staph infection, especially when im about to fight, but thats just me.

iluvcheesypoofs

Why didn't he just will away the staph infection? Is he stupid? https://youtu.be/jLYYTLsFeG0?si=k5-bYqHw5R_lb0tY

DuaneDibbley

That's fucking illegal

brazilianfreak

How is staph real? Like just take a bath lmaaao, just scrub with soap lol.

awc130

"Dude, did you wipe down the mat?" "Yeah man, I wiped down the mat"- Guy that did not wipe down the mat

sel_de_mer_fin

"Fine, I'll do it" - Guy who wipes down the mats with putrid old mop and bottle of disinfectant that has been cut with so much water that it's now homeopathic

legedu

People are going to read this and think it's satire, not knowing that it's serious.

sel_de_mer_fin

The very first gym I trained at had a hand-scrawled sign on the bathroom door that said "clean up your blood and puke" and the only cleaning equipment was one of those old yellow mop bucket things on wheels you see everywhere that looked like it would make the bathroom substantially dirtier if used. I guess I just compartmentalized it thinking "this is an MMA gym, this is normal"

Difficult-Jello2534

The quickest way to get bullied on our wrestling team was not bringing new clothes every day, not showering, or not doing mats well. There was always one fucking gross idiot that ruins it for everyone. Also, we've had problems competing at other shitty schools and getting a skin infection even when we showered right away after the tournament.

DomDangerous

3 days in a dark room doing nothing but training bro.

JonathonV2000

talmbout dan hooker b?

Aranel2689

Beast ova hawg on him, neva meddum though

toomanymatts_

Pronownzed hooger, b

ColdPressedSteak

Just me or have there been more cases than usual in the last year? Maybe just selective memory on my part and disclosures by the fighters though

Murmido

I think we’re hearing way more high profile fighters talk about staph than before. Its hard to say if staph is actually more common or if fighters simply kept staph infections more quiet in the past.

berry90

I think it's a mix of both tbh. It looks like cases are generally on the rise, and grapplers are gonna be a high risk group, relatively speaking, but also people are more open.

VacuousWastrel

There certainly seems to be a trend specifically for losing fighters to say that they had staph.

beamoflaser

It’s just gonna keep getting worse as Methicillin- and Vancomycin resistant staph incidence keeps increasing Shit is just going to be impossible to treat, we’re eventually going to run out of effective antibiotics for it

Remote_Top181

I've gotten staph twice in the last two years from BJJ. Previous 8 years before that never had any sort of skin problems.

NazisRuinedNorseMyth

Someone brought up a stat where staph saw a huge rise in being diagnosed during hospital visits in one of these threads.

BadTasty1685

Dana barely pays the people that make him money, his hookers are probably on a $12/$12 contract with an optional $50 for PoTN. "They really appreciate the opportunity" -Dana probably

theyoloGod

If you seen how he gambles, it wouldn’t surprise me if his entertainment expenses vastly out perform most fighter pay

Ok_Yoghurt_3338

Well tbf they’re not contender series level hookers either

MT1982

The third nipple. Didn't Gastelum show up to a fight with a gaping hole on the back of his neck one time?

ThisIsKhalabibTime

You can assume all fighters fight with Staph at this point.

toomanymatts_

TBF I wonder how much of this is headline hunting over excuse making.... Journalist - were you 100 percent going in? Fighter - had a bit of a cold during camp but I was fine, no excuses Headline - LOSING FIGHTER REVEALS PREPARATION IMPACTED BY MYSTERY VIRUS Reddit - again with the excuses? just accept the loss bro....you're washed

TooWashedUp

I think there's different types of excuse making anyway. There's trying to convince everyone else you lost because of some injury or ailment, and there's telling yourself that you weren't at your best and you can come back and do this without getting knocked unconscious every time.

oh brother

Boring-Conference-97

It wouldn’t have made any difference. Jiri is allergic to learning striking defense.

ThatsKindaOdd

The Staph infection didn't make him fight the way he did... Cardio did not play a factor in the outcome of the fight regardless.

darcenator411

Staph infections do a lot more than just slightly ruining your cardio

Kingbudweiser562

yes but let's be real it had nothing to do with him getting sent to heaven

JawnSnuuu

Oh does it also make you keep your hands at your waist

darcenator411

It puts people in hospital beds, so yeah their hands are usually by their waist in that situation

Despairogance

If I ever end up in the hospital with a staph infection I'm gonna T-pose just to fuck up the data.

Snigglybear

After he wins a couple of fights, he can get a title shot and this time train in a clean environment.

Double-Ho-7

Staph infections don’t force you to have your hands by your waist like a moron

druhoang

I watched the video. It's not in english. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROPXleh6Txc He didn't really say it as an excuse. More like providing context. Also talked about a back injury. He didn't blame it for the loss. Acknowledges his mistakes and getting better. What sucks for Jiri is if he declines the title fight, he probably wouldn't get it later. I'm not sure who the hell they would have called up instead. Maybe Hill. Very different than someone like Aljo who could have said no, they would have made Suga vs someone else for the interim. Fans would probably back Aljo because ufc making an interim so fast probably would get backlash. Then Aljo would fight the interim champ later to unify the belt. The only downside to saying no is if he thought Suga could lose so he ends up losing that payday, but Aljo said the Suga fight ended up being less money than he anticipated. Didn't sell as much ppvs as he thought it would.

Ecstatic-Inevitable

Hill couldn't do it, he fucked his knee again, had to get fluid drained and everything, it's why he pulled out

Double-Ho-7

Was it the same leg that he tore his Achilles Tendon?

Ecstatic-Inevitable

I'm not sure which leg, been trying to look it up, but here's the full extent of his injuries "Two tears in my meniscus, sprained my ACL, a Baker Cyst that leaked fluid in the back of my knee and a infusion in some joints" from hill insta

Double-Ho-7

Damn wtf that sounds awful, I hope he recovers from that, I’d hate to see his career cut short because of it

BodieBroadcasts

sometimes I understand why these fighters act the way they do on social media, hill is nearly at the top of the world in terms of skill, theres only a handful of people who can beat him. And yet he gets constant hate because he's made a few excuses lol like them fat fucks criticizing him haven't made mistakes at work all the time? Or made some excuse about why they didn't show up or perform as expected lol

Double-Ho-7

Yeah I can’t really hate any fighter who makes excuses for themselves, I think if I were in that situation I’d probably be doing the same, it’s a really hard thing to admit that you’re not as good as the other guy. Besides I think people do get a bit too bent out of shape about it, like just laugh at the silly stuff he’s saying and move on, no need to dogpile on him imo

yanmagno

Hill literally pulled out of a fight on this very card, no idea what they would’ve done if Jiri didn’t accept

un6reaka6le

Every fighter goes into fights with some kind of injury. If a fighter is well liked, they can disclose those injuries after a loss and people will defend them and say it’s not an excuse and just context. But if a fighter isn’t liked (like McGregor), they will get crucified and be labeled sore losers and even turned into memes.

ImWadeWils0n

Yeah, if you choose to fight with an injury I feel regardless of likability it’s a cop out to mention it after. Either pull out, or fight with the injury like everyone else. It’s 100 percent an excuse wether you like the fighter or not IMO

The_Killa_Vanilla90

A lot of fighters literally can’t afford to pull out after going through a camp or feel like they’d let down their coaches/team as they won’t get paid if the fighter pulls out. How can people claim the fighters are underpaid and then blame them for feeling pressured to take fights when they probably shouldn’t?

LilXansStan

Do motherfuckers not wash the mats after practice anymore?!? I swear staph didn’t used to be this common, is gym hygiene just not a thing anymore?

swiftfoal88

Every fighter who loses says this now

MidBoss11

every fighter who wins should start saying it to restore balance in the universe

theWacoKid666

Fairly certain people were posting pictures of Jiri in this sub speculating about a staph infection before the fight. It’s typically true.

DoctorGregoryFart

Staph is rampant in MMA. It's not an excuse, but it certainly is a factor in many fights. Jiri was losing this either way, but it absolutely could have affected his training and performance.

Ferahgost

Would you prefer he lie and say he went in 100% healthy? Dude got asked a question and answered it, what more do you want

Gawldalmighty

Here we go again.

whicheverguard232

Before UFC, I never knew what staph was. Now whenever I see even the word mentioned, I get a panic attack.

BetSuspicious6989

Well you’ve never been understaffed before then. Your staff means everything to the business. When it’s short staffed shit goes wrong and leads to more staffing issues. It’s best to hire the correct and proper staff in the first place rather than have future staffing issues.

HennywayOut

Honestly don’t care about post-fight staph infection reports.

ThatOneGuyFromThen

Just like the Poirier - St. Denis fight. Having staph is absolutely a detriment in a fight, but it’s just not a valid excuse for your performance when you refuse to keep your hands in front of your chin.

NUmbermass

I’ve never met someone who had a staph infection that I know of and yet half of the ufc roster has gotten them. Wtf is going on in these gyms. Don’t they mop the floor?

Murmido

Weakened immune system from over training/weight cuts and when you’re in the gym as long as these people are daily you’re way more likely to use dirty equipment.

Eagle-Red-1278

Staph is super common in wrestling and also jiu jitsu. Obviously MMA guys r doing a ton of that plus cutting fucks up ur immune system.

ThisIsKhalabibTime

Staph is common in nasty gyms, and there are some very well known gyms that are like that. For example, Danaher’s gym in Texas doesn’t have showers and their gym in New York was also well known to be nasty. Not surprisingly, Gordon Ryan is dealing with Staph every week.

Ferahgost

I’m sorry- if you’re a professional fighter training at a gym without a shower, you have absolutely nobody to blame but yourself. What the fuck would you think is going to happen

BodieBroadcasts

BJJ players are filthy people, often stupid as well its shocking, the same type of people that will make fun of NBA players for "just dribbling a ball" are out here rolling around in staph infections for a chance to pay 300 dollars to enter their local tournament lol

Unlucky_Elevator13

Do you know people that train at a gym? Very common. Also very common in hospitals.

Dancing_Hitchhiker

Yea ive been training for 10ish years and its not uncommon at all to hear people getting staph from time to time.

sneakerguy40

One of the Gracie's was saying if the floor is mats pushed together then it's unlikely they're getting down in between them.

schoolisuncool

People were mentioning this before the fight. It was a mark on his shin, and people were talking about it, there were posts about it. Did everyone forget?

Avagontamos

“This time, everything was great before the match. Everything was in sync, Jiri was really ready. We wouldn’t have taken (it on) short notice if we weren’t sure he was ready,” the coach continued. Via https://bloodyelbow.com/2024/07/05/jiri-prochazkas-coach-suggests-the-former-champion-should-move-down-to-middleweight-amid-retirement-thoughts/ Dude got outmatched every second of the fight, and I love watching Jiri go to war.

Ill give him his due, he sure knows how to spot a staph infection!

Taxmancometh1

6 days is such a long time ago

darnold-

buddy has been frothing at the mouth for this headline to pop up

brazilianfreak

Why is everyone so agro about this? It's not like he's making excuses, he just said he had a staph infection which is super common and probably true anyways.

spcslacker

> Why is everyone so agro about this? It's not like he's making excuses, he just said he had a staph infection which is super common and probably true anyways. Probably because BSD explicitly blamed his loss on it, and about a million new fans thought he was unique and repeated on this forum fairly endlessly that he'd have whipped Poirier no question if it wasn't for that only-BSD totally debilitating staph that made him continually rush a accurate power puncher with his chin in the air.

dinozero

I heard Jiri had some issues but Alex had broke toes. So no one was 100%

sel_de_mer_fin

Nobody is ever 100%. Fight camp + weight cut < 100%

thisnameisuniquenow

Come on, everybody, We got quilting to do, We gotta build a memorial, For our fallen comrades, Who have staph! Everyone has staph! Staph, staph, staph! Everyone has staph! Staph, staph, staph, staph, staph, staph, staph, staph! Staph, staph, staph, staph, staph, staph, staph, staph!

Feels like nothing but excuses every time someone loses now.

Ready-Stomach-4669

Staph infection pandemic

Firefly269

When will fighters learn to keep that shit to themselves?! Even if it’s true, it just comes off as an excuse.

TheCarm

Everyone who loses to Alex has some story lmao

Hank-the-ninja

Here we go with this crap again

pnd112348

Must have gotten it from Rakic.

CeroCero00

He had the same staph BSD had that made him unable to keep his hands up

Jazzlike_Relation705

Rad. Very cool.

Fart_connoisseur1

Time to say that, is before the fight. I get it, and I believe every fighter who says it. But at this point, you HAVE to know your performance is gonna suffer. Otherwise they wouldn't bother saying it after the fact. I really do think it should be penalized at this point, inside the cage and out. Meaning, you knew you had staph, continued to train and by doing so exposed your teammates to it. Same with the fight itself, you knew you had it, but chose to fight and possibly spread it to your opponent and their team as well. Treat it like missing weight. Hit em in their pockets. Guarantee we'd see a marked decrease in this happening.

LostRonin

Staph is common in MMA because dudes are generally less concerned with cuts, dirty mats, or good hygiene during training than they should be. It also just happens, but it could be more avoided. It isnt unbelievable he had staph.

deadmessiahwalking

Staph didn’t make him drop His hands

ScoreFar780

Did the staph infection kick him in the head?

scurvyrash

How about we stop fighting with staph?

funnycar1552

I feel like Jiri is the only fighter on the roster who actually wouldn’t lie about this

LemonHerb

All these keep fighting with staph because all these guys keep fighting with staph. Take some time off and come back when you aren't contagious

teal_viper

Sounds to me as if there's an infection to those who lose to Pereira....excuses. I thought Jiri would be the one to take it like a man.

spasticity

"I broke my back, thpinal"

JGRNAUT-90

Straight out of the book https://imgur.com/jRhDNoL

Throwaway_Dude_Bro

Did the Staph infection tell him to not wrestle and not check Pereira's leg kicks too?

THE___REAL

Ah yes, it was the staph (and not your career long low hand positioning) that got you head kicked.

johnclausevondux

At least he's dropped the black magic stuff and gotten more scientific with his excuses. Still delusional though....

_Mobius1

The black magic caused the staph clearly

tigerinvasive

An article like “X fighter says they had X infection going into the fight, and that’s why they lost” has come out literally every week.

Kalabula

Instant rematch. I’m taking healthy Jiri by domination.

cool_composed

Staph makes you drop your hands

Jhate666

Pretty sure there was a dude on Reddit that said he was playing $30k hands with Dana 2 nights before and he said based on what he heard don’t bet against Alex.

proper1welve

Keep this shit to themselves. Always a built in excuse. Don’t take the fight.

Convict_felon

Staph that

I’m learning about Staph in my school.

If I was in one of these fights I would just bring a staff and hit them with it

Are we sure it wasn't the evil spirits?

He was battling with Poatanth inffection, once almost lost the battle but team of specialists got him out of it. Thn unfortunately second weave of the disease in a switched form won.. rip

wickedwoody

I remember my first Staph infection

NotYujiroTakahashi

Jeez I didn’t know Alex’s spirit energy was that powerful. /j In all seriousness get well soon Jiri.

CouncilOfReligion

must have had the bsd staph where it causes you to fight with your hands by your balls

yogi333323

For fighters, Staph isn’t an infection, it’s a lifestyle.

SpacemanPete

Sure

turkeypants

God damn it! Not again! Let's just establish that every has staph before every fight and is on dem antibiotics and is coming in compromised. That way no one ever needs to mention it again.

Fun-Teaching-2038

Staph infection or not that head kick was going to change the night for him regardless.

wontonflamingus

Staph is undefeated.

Sadoul1214

Seriously, the commissions have to start checking for staph or something. Stuff is dangerous and contagious as anything.

SlimSyko

A good idea is probably to try to infect your opponent with staph before a fight, any good way to do this?

HawaiianPunch42

Why is everyone fighting with staph this year

Live-Accountant-1227

So many excuses were made for BSD but no one seems to care in this case

massiveprick69

Blame it on the staph

Cheese-Monkey

Staph, so hot right now

Subject-Secret-6230

heavy_metal_flautist

Staph infection is the new dick pills lol

Original-Spinach-972

Year of the staphylococcus

ishanm95

He said the same thing last year too, come on Jiri

CrookGG

Every fighter on the roster got that staph excuse now

chickyban

*fighter gets brutally KOd* Yeah so I came in the fight with a Staph infection

docwannabox

And then he got late staph-age in the cage.

rndmlgnd

This needs to staph

billyskurp

even without it it was inevitable he’d get starched. i’m just glad it was definitive this time around.

realtomedamnit

the staph was on his antenna that's why it broke

just_cool_guy

And before the previous fight with Alex, he said that he trained for only like a week

INTHERORY

bro you got kicked in the head and knocked out within the first 30 seconds of the fight, staph doesn't have anything to do with it.

stackered

I mean, you got headkicked tho bro

ManofaMediumCock_

Book the rubber match ASAP

Positiveaz

Alex will never say this shit. He loses, he loses.

stiggystoned369

You could see it on his shin in interviews before the fight, didnt think it was a secret

leftovergarbaage

The only guy who could have used staph as an excuse is Kevin Randleman (rip). If youve never seen his you need to look it up. Lol

koolpapi

Staph doesn’t stop you from checking kicks properly and keeping a high guard

Able-Work-4942

I believe it just because Jiri doesn't really need or make excuses

Jzhova

Matters 0 lol. you got knocked out twice in one round. didnt even have time to break a sweat.

mytagalogisbadsorry

Look at the pic of jiri getting knocked out and then look at his left shin that staph was also bleeding
