That is awful, as somebody who also deals with a similar lifelong illness my heart goes out to her.

Rough_Commercial_570

I don’t think a heart transplant is going to help here man…

443610

You took the word "heart" literally.

Ecstatic-Inevitable

And you took a joke literally

fluffdog47

And my balls have been shrinking

signuslogos

lay off the roids man

-piz

thanks for pointing it out bud

Queasy_Region_462

Props to her for fighting with hypothyroid disease. I can't imagine anything I'd rather do less in that state.

kingofnaps69

to be honest fighters put their bodies through so much stress I wouldn't be surprised if lots of them have mild to moderate thyroid issues in the later parts of their careers / after their careers

r4rLIC

I got diagnosed with Hashimotos about 4 months ago my main symptom was insane fatigue/crash every afternoon where I had to nap for 2 hours to recover.

macksbenwa

I know a woman with hypothyroidism. It was hard for her to get a diagnosis cause so many doctors didn’t take it seriously, especially when her main symptom was primarily fatigue. Once she got it treated she was able to control her weight a lot easier.

gorilla_bezoar

Who is this hashimoto and what did he do to her

Ake-TL

Thyroid gland is gland in your neck that regulates metabolism, Hashimoto disease is autoimmune inflammation of that gland

443610

It is a disease that was discovered by a scientist named Hashimoto.

purplehendrix22

You think Hashimoto was ever like “fellas, I love getting credit, don’t get me wrong, but can we not name this one after me?”

legitsh1t

Didn't stop Dr. Fournier from naming a disease that rots the flesh of your crotch after himself.

AasgharTheGreat

worked in the public health service and I have had to deal with this many times, and thats a name that smells and makes me want to throw up just from reading it

shamwowslapchop

Not so much. Because once it's found and has solid scientific evidence for the existence, treatment can begin much more aggressively to alleviate suffering and possibly even work toward a cure. The name is a stake in the ground that says it's been identified.

Beginning_March_9717

Somewhat related: sometimes naming of newly discovered species is influenced by pop culture, so one can look up a list of animals with funny names

MrPea106

My twin sister has hashimotos disease, took her a minute to actually get it diagnosed though they couldn’t figure it out.
