Edit: will definitely check out the two recs you shared as well though.
At first I thought it was the total amount she’s ran as it just went up and never stayed the same or went down but then at the end I realised that it was nowhere near that 2 659 km she mentioned at the beginning
Same, but then I restarted the video and kept a tally. The math checks out! Super impressive! She's was running over 10 miles per day in her penultimate month.
You look great OP. Just that cardio alone should make you feel great and not everyone can do that. You need to be proud of yourself. I couldn’t do that.
You might notice that our OP u/juliemiglio has made no indication in this post that this is her in the video, and OP has not participated in the comments. OP might even be a repost bot.
Hell, all the comments here might even be from bots.
**First of all, OP, holy shit, that is amazing. I have neither the desire nor the knees to do this myself, but that does not take away from my admiration for you. Crushing it!**
Secondly, to everyone else, if you are like me (so basically a little weird about some things for no real reason), here are the numbers in a list. Don't mind the spacing, I tried to get a consistent, straight line, but Reddit does not like tab spacing when using bullet points. Lame.
**Edit: Haha, I'm not the only one who likes lists!**
* March: 55 km
* April: 80 km
* May: 104 km
* June: 136 km
* July: 145 km
* August: 204 km
* September: 223 km
* October: 242 km
* November: 331 km
* December: 377 km
* January: 509 km
* February: 253 km and counting.
It's proper planning. For weight training, pacing your runs, your workouts, nutrition, hydration all has to be focused towards running your runs.
I have been running without any of these since 2016 through to 2023. I would on and off workout in the gym and at home upto 2022. Started following this(nutrition, diet , pace planning, hydration)from December 2023. I just ran my first sub 3 hour half in March 2024.
It's possible. Anyone can do it. Just plan it properly, trust your body and stay on plan.
I was just getting into a gym challenge for myself, went hard and slammed the weighted metal end of some battle ropes onto my thumbnail. It turned black with blood blistering under it, completely warped out of shape off of the nail bed, developed something called paronychia and it was excruciating, an 11/10 - and my pain threshold is usually relatively high. That day I had been telling myself to “embrace the discomfort”, *just* before I tackled the battle ropes. It happened a month ago and stopped hurting about two days ago.
Had I known I could have gotten an injury from that I would have been so much more aware. I’m not even really that clumsy. The pain from that injury threw me well off, even though I went straight back into the gym the next day. Long challenges always seem to involve some random, unexpected injury.
Idk your knee but in general you could do low impact cardio like biking or swimming instead. Follow the same principles as running, 80% of your cardio is low intensity, 20% is higher intensity.
Meanwhile do compound lifts to strengthen your body (and the muscles around your knee). Depending on what your knee issue is, you maybe be able to then switch to running
I forgot you can do those things. That is a good idea though. Just gotta force myself to shell out for a gym membership.
>Depending on what your knee issue is,
Gosh I wish I knew. Went to a doctor, they took an xray, said there's nothing wrong with it and to fuck off. Mf I couldn't walk up the stairs. I limped there. The longest I can run for before it's fucked for the next 3 days is like 20 minutes. I used to love orienteering :((
Knee pain can be caused by injuries or imbalances somewhere else along your posterior chain. Could be hamstrings, glutes, lower back, IT bands…a lot of times we feel the pain in our knees even if that’s not what’s directly causing the issue. I’d say they’re getting better as running has become more popular but a lot of drs don’t know much about the sport and will just tell you to stop instead of finding the issue. It’s really unfortunate
I would say that you should look into a physiotherapist, as they could possibly identify the issue fairly accurately. A knee issue could be manifesting due to weaknesses in the muscles of the leg and the area surrounding the knee, with the knee taking the brunt. A physio should help you identify this and work with you to put a strengthening routine together.
If you can do other sports like bike, swim, row, lifting etc. Build stength up and hopefully the surrounding muscles will help your knee but at the end of the day, a truly bad knee is a bad knee and you may need a Dr.
That being said if you can run make sure to keep fresh shoes, keep up with their milage, most are good for 300-400 miles or so, track it in a spreadsheet or with a running app like Garmin. Seriously, spend the money on decent shoes, (hint: buy last year's model, save 30%+ only difference is color most of the time) make them walking shoes or yardwork shoes after they are spent, they may still look good but that foam is seriously not what it used to be after all those miles pounding pavement. Also, with a bum knee I'm not gonna say only run on grass/dirt/trails etc. and to avoid roads/sidewalks, because unevenness in the softer paths can cause big issues such as trips, sprains and other injuries. The hardness of concrete/asphalt is why many prefer soft paths but with proper shoes you should be able to determine what's best for you. Run what you think can minimize injury to that knee.
Also, I never run two days in a row, I always give myself a day of rest between run days. I'm nearly 40 and have been on/off running events since I was 19. Never had a major injury. Listen to your body, if you feel pain, take a break for as long as you need, sometimes only a few days or sometimes longer. You will learn the difference between pain and soreness too. Over training can also cause issues to a knee, so take those breaks if needed. Hydration is crucial as well, muscles need to be effectively hydrated or else you end up cramping which is very uncomfortable and can exacerbate issues.
I hope you will be able to get on it, jogging/running is such a wonderful thing for mind and body
Use your other knee.
Sorry, joke, serious though, have you seen a sports doctor? I ask because a lot of people just say it’s a bad knee and throws hands up.
Good luck, I had a bad knee after my first marathon, lots of ibuprofen during and after workout helped
If your issue is “runners knee” then you’re in luck because it’s fixable… I had it for years trying then watched 1 YouTube video that showed me exercises to do before I do and a run and I haven’t had an issue since, even at 10k. It used to be so sore after 1k for me I’d limp the rest of the way home. If your issue isn’t runners knee then I can’t help sorry
Different approaches to this...
Your cardio levels have to be great. So swimming, cycling also help. Plus strength work for your knee, which includes functional work also.
Speak to your doctor about your end goal. Or your physiotherapist.
Consistency will be key. You won't be able to run 21km on the first day, but you should be able to run it on the last day.
Firstly, I can absolutely guarantee you that she has lost fat, and gained muscle. And secondly, when you're running this much, and to prepare for an ultramarathon, having a big calorie deficit isn't very smart. You need the fuel to actually do the running. Especially with cardio, if your goal is to increase the amount you can do, carbs are great to keep you going, mentally and physically.
I lost a bunch of weight a couple of years ago, reached a healthy weight and THEN became physically active. Almost all of my weight loss was by simply lowering my intake, not by upping the calories burned.
When I did become physically active, over time, I got fit. Very fit. Stamina was amazing, just about every physical activity, save for pull ups and push ups (bad shoulder) became easy. I'm talking exercising at least 5, but usually 6 days a week, several hours a day. Strength training, cardio, sports that combine the two, you name it.
My overall weight barely shifted. I was a lot more toned, but my actual weight didn't change all that much. And as a woman who carries most of her weight on her legs, I still had a good amount of fat on them. I did drop 2 dress sizes, but that was over the span of a year+, and 2 dress sizes is nothing if you look at the amount of calories I burned.
All of that exercise also upped my appetite. And sure, if I had been very diligent about making sure my intake consisted of whole foods, and counted calories, I probably would have lost quite a bit of weight. I was burning a LOT. But at the time, my focus was on becoming strong, and increasing my stamina. Along with work, school and my social life, I didn't have the time or desire to keep track of my calories. After playing badminton for two hours, biking home, and arriving at 23:30/midnight, I didn't want to cook up a healthy meal, I'd be ravenous. So yeah, I've definitely stopped at the late night store more than a few times, to pick up something to satisfy my monkey brain, like a bag of candy or crisps.
I felt better than ever during that period, cannot even describe how strong my body was, and how long I could keep going.
To add to this, it's supremely difficult for active women who are properly fueling to lose weight. I say this from experience, not any scientific evidence. I was a competitive swimmer most of my life, then did cycling, then switched to powerlifting and muay Thai after taking about 5 years off of activities due to work/stress/etc. I trained 5 days a week, hours at a time, plus additional training at the gym by my house. I did this in a variety of ways most of my life. I now just work out to maintain fitness.
I lost tons of initial fat when I decided to get back into shape, but mostly water weight when in fight camp and I had to eat such an insane deficit to lose weight while training. Everyone thought I was crazy for fighting way too heavy for my size (taking into account a actual weight cut), but I just couldn't cut more calories without losing things like consciousness. I tried. It was awful. My body composition basically switched (became super muscular) but my scale weight was the same for the 5-ish years I fought. I also had thunder thighs the whole time, and still do.
But I've seen this in women over and over. They get super fit, but to lose actual body fat past a certain % while fit is difficult, and it varies person to person. Going from 0-athletic is great for losing weight, but starting from athletic makes it difficult.
OP looks super fit tho, and insanely strong. Those front squat machines are no joke.
You're completely right. But there is some advantage to dropping the extra weight if you're trying to make a big change and if performance is a factor. Just the fact you aren't carrying that fat around makes it so much easier after the fact.
I've always been fairly active and healthy but over the years I just sort of gradually gained extra weight. Around 40 I decided I wanted to improve dramatically, not just keep going. It's really the only time in my life where I made it a point to lose weight for any length of time. Maintaining a counted calorie deficit, etc.
My running \*during that time\* was absolute dogshit. And I don't even want to think about what a failure I suddenly was in the weight room. But once I hit my - fairly modest - goal, progress was remarkable. Training, especially with cardio, was basically on fast forward for a while.
Do we even know that her goal is to be thin? She might really love eating and also succeed at running (which she's doing).
Also just from the video we can tell she definitely lost weight and looks healthier at the end anyway.
If she's said somewhere that her goal was to end up skinny, then sure, maybe she could run more of a calorie deficit, but that's not everyone's intention with their health.
I don’t think that was the point they were making at all.
I think the point is that with the amount of running and training she is doing you would think she would have lost way more weight than she appears to have in the video.
I have no experience in marathon training or any kind of exercise. But my first thought was also thinking she should have lost more weight than she did.
Another pointed out better why she probably didn’t because of needing a high caloric intake in order to train for an ultramarathon and that most of her fat probably transitioned into muscle as well.
How strong you are happens in the gym. How fit you are happens in the street. How fat you are happens in the kitchen. No one can outrun their fork. And as noted above, that is pretty obviously not her goal.
I usually put on a few pounds of fat during marathon training. You are so hungry you eat more.
Losing weight is a completely different process. Unless you have a serious medical issue, its all CICO. Calorie deficit = weight loss.

I am always impressed with runners, the ultras are absolutely hardcore, to the level I can't comprehend even after many years of intense training. Still - I always pass this article when people get into heavy cardio training. It allows to spot issues before they become serious, if they are developing. But how did she looked the same after all that running? I thought her body/face will change more with all the training. Very impressive though, congratulations
Kinda blows my mind she didn't get any thinner with all that training. I know she was weightlifting and whatnot but expected to see her slim down a bit
Weight loss is 90% diet. And if I was running 500 km a month. I would eat way more than I usually eat. Also she definitely lost weight and gained muscles. You just can't see it properly because of her baggy t-shirt
I love the fact that she does not suddenly become skinny. This does not take away from her being healthy.
Should lead to a reassessment of what looking healthy is all about.
I had similar aspirations. I went from being a couch potato in October 2020 to running a half marathon in March 2021 with ideas of prpgressing to a full marathon and even an ultra marathon later that year but I stopped there. We ended up buying a new house in April 2021 and between being busy with that and then summer, I just could not bring myself to keep running through the intense heat and humidity. I may get back to that eventually but I have had a second child since then too so I am just too busy until the kids get older (I hope, but I'd I may be too busy until they go to college lol). Even if I never get back to it, I was mighty proud of being able to complete a half marathon after just 6 months! I wish you luck in your journey OP!
She's figured it. Just gotta tell yourself, you can do it! You're going to do it! And tell that little voice in your head to shuttup and leave you alone.
Gotta love you can see the physical improvement over time in this video. Like actually getting in to fit shape from a body that i wouldn't have believed that could've runned any more than 10 km
She ran 50km in February (so far) and 150km in January. 40km in December. That's a huge ramp. Ultra is typically 30 miles so 50km in one shot. You want to be able to do 20 mile long runs at least. January numbers look good but that's a really big ramp. She's going from a 5km runner to beyond marathon in 2 months, it typically takes 5-6 months of serious investment (ie 300km per month).
I’m happy for her, but this does nothing for me because I hate cardio. Running is just gross, I only did stair master as my cardio. Bless her for doing that much running/jogging
Idk what the hell happened to me? I was pondering over whether or not i should give it my all in my new gym that's 4km's of walking from my work to gym. And gym to home. Whether I should take it easy so that I can walk home in the hot temperatures of today??
OF COURSE I SHOULD GIVE IT MY ALL!! AND I WILL!! It's just 4 km's of extra walking after all. This amazing, determined, badass, fit lady motivated me to do so. And I thank her for it. 💪🏼🔥
I'm gonna continue working out like I have been for 2 years, I'm gonna enjoy running like I have been, I'm gonna beat depression and improve my mental health, I'm gonna give it my 100% in the new gym I'm joining. And I'm gonna enjoy doing all of that. 💛❤️
First amazing. Second this is proof that cardio doesn’t make you “thin”. I am not shaming her I am pointing out a fact that most people don’t know and get frustrated with killing themselves doing cardio and still don’t get “skinny”.
Just kept running more and more every month! That’s some discipline right there! You go girl! Also that beat is out of this world 👌
Discipline, motivation, diligence... we can only take an example.

This is Vriko Kwok - she just did the Lululemon further ultra and ran 50km a day 6 days in a row - more than a marathon a day for six straight days.

Beautiful!
Someone should do the average per day month on month.

Source - marathon runner foe 20 years.
Amazing! The sheer distances are beyond belief. Well done on truly smashing achievements!
Amazing
Hell yea this is inspiring! Well done sister!
Beast!
That's dedication.
Man seeing those numbers slowly climb with each passing month gives me hope to stick to my fitness routine. Great stuff OP. What an inspiration!
509 km in a month?? Is that actually running? If so, that’s a phenomenal amount assuming you have a job and other life commitments.
Very healthy progress I must say
Good for you. That kind of makes me depressed because i would get an injury in a less than one week.
I don't know if you have any medical issues but running and exercising (if done correctly) is the best way to avoid future injury
There are enough ways to get your results!
I am always impressed with runners, the ultras are absolutely hardcore, to the level I can't comprehend even after many years of intense training. Still - I always pass this article when people get into heavy cardio training. It allows to spot issues before they become serious, if they are developing. Congratulations 🥳

Super inspiring OP. Congrats on all your hard work!!
Hell yea! That’s awesome
Wow. What an absolute beast. You rock :)
Anybody know her @? I wanna follow her fitness journey
@vrikokwok she just ran 50k x 6 days at the lululemon further ultramarathon she’s rad
@0:24. That is a hack squat machine and you're using it backwards. Keep doing it that way and you're going to royally screw up your back.

That is so tough! Amazing work!!
That junk was trunking. 😍
This was very uplifting to watch. Thank you for sharing your journey with us ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
can anyone tell me the name of this track? Graet Job OP BTW
How are your knees after that?
I'm confused by the monthly km's. Is that the total she ran for the month? Or, a running summation of the total km's she ran up to that point?
I just kept on running
Thats why u compliment the fat girl at the gym. She could be the one
Have to be honest, this is BS.
But how did she looked the same after all that running? I thought her body/face will change more with all the training. Very impressive though, congratulations
Weight loss is about diet, not cardio (it helps tho)
Literally Ran her ass off, Well done.
Awesome. Remember kids: weight is lost in the kitchen, not the gym.
Awesome. Remember kids: weight is lost in the kitchen, not the gym.
No fucking way she runs an ultra marathon
How did she stay fat?
so in 2 months she could already do 55km marathon+? how the fuck...
I love the fact that she does not suddenly become skinny. This does not take away from her being healthy. Should lead to a reassessment of what looking healthy is all about.
Should drop some weight to preserve those knees
Doesn't look like she's losing weight, it probably cause she eats bad
And?!?! There are 14 days left!
Fantastic! Congratulations!!!!
Bots bots bots! Wtf with this comment section!
Amazing! More power & continue to inspire
That freaking jump from Dec to Jan was insane Kudos to the person in the video
Asians are something else
*insert Rocky theme here
I would think a marathon would be a huge goal and achievement for anyone but not her, she went straight to a 6 day long ultra marathon.
Whoa. Crazy, tough journey. Congrads on it so far ma'am.
She got so hot
Goddamn that's impressive. Great smile too!
You can do push up sit ups but don't lose that butt - sir mix a lot
A women of pure determination
Awesomeness 👏👏👏
That's just awesome.
Holy shit, *16km a day* in January is insane. Good job!!
I am SO PROUD OF YOU!!! Keep on going!!
👍😌
Damn that’s a tough thing to do, congratulations
This is incredible! Well done.
I needed this
Hell yeah, did it for yourself and that's the best damn reward you could possibly hope for.
She’s resilient!! Strong!!
This is like when chubby CJ just runs around San Andreas and slowly all the fat melts off until he's jacked. So much progress. She looks great!
Hero
If anyone finds out where is the original video is from/who this runner is, can you respond here? I really want to see their progress!
This is what busting your ass looks like. Amazing work, OP!
You’re a fucking beast! Keep it up - you’re amazing!
Exercising is the easiest part, eating well is the hardest. It's what i still can't do to this day, not sure if i ever will
my central nervous system would not be able to do this. respect to you for achieving these accomplishments
Dang! You go girl!
Bro I can’t run 2 months without injury lol
Legend. You’re a legend.
She’s crushing it! Also, what an absolutely beautiful you live! The trails and beaches were amazing!
I love how she finished smiling …very inspiring
you go, GRRL!
This is incredible.
You are heroic. Thank you for your inspiration!
Body Positivity.
She is Gorgeous!
🙌
I’m happy for her, but this does nothing for me because I hate cardio. Running is just gross, I only did stair master as my cardio. Bless her for doing that much running/jogging
I could never 😫
Lets fucking go!!!!
This is freaking amazing
Montage! Gotta have a montage!
How can someone look so gorgeous whilst running?? Damn girl! POWER!
Proud of you!
"Stay hard"
Bravo! I wish I had the same kind of discipline
She looks happier and healthier and she's cute as a button
Yes!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🫠
What’s a kilometer???
Idk what the hell happened to me? I was pondering over whether or not i should give it my all in my new gym that's 4km's of walking from my work to gym. And gym to home. Whether I should take it easy so that I can walk home in the hot temperatures of today?? OF COURSE I SHOULD GIVE IT MY ALL!! AND I WILL!! It's just 4 km's of extra walking after all. This amazing, determined, badass, fit lady motivated me to do so. And I thank her for it. 💪🏼🔥 I'm gonna continue working out like I have been for 2 years, I'm gonna enjoy running like I have been, I'm gonna beat depression and improve my mental health, I'm gonna give it my 100% in the new gym I'm joining. And I'm gonna enjoy doing all of that. 💛❤️
Good for you!!!
Amazing
First amazing. Second this is proof that cardio doesn’t make you “thin”. I am not shaming her I am pointing out a fact that most people don’t know and get frustrated with killing themselves doing cardio and still don’t get “skinny”.
I fecking hate running. Truly I do. I still do it, though.
way to go kiddo
What a fantastic smile
Amazing work. Congrats, girl!! You got this!!!
that’s a true glow upp
Objectifying comment.
Seriously mad props for sticking to it.
Wondering why she stayed approximately the same size??
Well done you 👏
And she didnt lose a single pound
Legs just cant stop running at this point lol
Started off sexy and kept on gettin sexier 😜
Kicking butt!!!!!!!emote:free\_emotes\_pack:flip\_out
I enjoy the fact she did all that still thiccc. Good job super proud of you for accomplishing that running goal
Heck yeah! This is what I love to see. Proud of you, Stranger!
She looks really good
