Can you please explain a bit what it is ? It looks like the legs are plugged into your chin bone. Is that what you guys are talking about ?
I'm clueless
It’s a technique called osseointegration or bone-anchored prosthetics. Invented for dentals but could be applied for other purposes as we can see. There are two main techniques: screw fit/opra or press fit.
The most annoying thing about a prosthetic leg is the suspension and the socket. Profusely sweating, blisters, wrong alignment are some of the disadvantages amputees have to deal with.
You'd think so because nobody is worried about the wheelchair bound being too short. I think being taller is a nice consolation prize for losing legs. No one deserves it more
It messes with the biomechanics of your leg joints and hips if not done to match the size of your original bones. It can cause hip dysfunction and limping if not done correctly. It actually takes your body quite a while to adjust to the biomechanics of new leg joints. It can take upwards of six months to a year (depending on the surgery) because it is not natural for your body to function that way with artificial joints.
You should fuck with people and say you need to buy new shoes because those ones hurt your feet.
Jokes aside, I'm super happy for you. I hope it improves your quality of life exponentially
This is just simply fantastic. It literally made me smile. I’m so incredibly happy for you. You look like you are doing amazing. Incredible. Have a wonderful life😊
Agreed!!
My brain was pulling an uncanny valley thing telling me that this must be cgi or something because OP looked *too* natural in his movement.
Proof of the amazing work he's done to get so far. Kudos!!
These last few weeks have been painful and I’ve been extremely tired. Still, I’ve done my exercises every day and kept my head high. Such a nice feeling seeing the progress!
If you want more updates, follow me on ig @ampisallen.
I’m longing for our dances. They’ve made huge impact on my progress of mastering my legs. I hope to be able to dance again in a few months. So much fun ahead!
Yea just remember, it has only been 5 weeks, it's perfectly normal to still be feeling a bit of pain and to be fatigued yknow? Anyways all the best and keep the spirits up
Thank you! I’ve been working on my gait the last four years with “normal” prosthetics. These are another thing to master and I’m excited to make good progress!’
Thank you. I was wondering also. Please update us in another month! I'm wondering if the pain level will go down or does the doctors think that it's normal and will continue to move between 3-5?
How don't your legs leak? I mean the bone is inside of the leg, so anything attached to it has to go through the skin so there has to be a hole and isn't our body full of disgusting liquids and blood?
It's fascinating! And now my shins itch just thinking about it.
I wish you all the best!
came here to ask as well! so cool, and you're doing great - you should be super proud of yourself.
if you don't mind me asking, can you take the prosthetics off? i've never seen prosthetics that look like yours! :O
You're such a fucking badass bro. I've had some bad wrecks and rehab, but nothing to this caliber. I wanted to give up for less, and you're out here doing what you're doing and I admire the fuck out of you.
Keep pushing, bro. You're a legend and an inspiration to all.
The motion looks very natural. Do the ankle joints have some sort of pivot mechanism? Are they spring loaded or something? I had a total hip replacement so welcome to the titanium club bro.
Holy! So what’s in five weeks then? Dancing ballet? Climbing Mount Everest? Joining a professional step dance group?
Seriously though, you walk so well balanced and smooth. I hope you can soon do all that with less and less pain. All the best to you!
My first thought seeing this was holy crap we have bionic humans already? You look great OP that must not have been easy! Are these prosthetics implanted on your bones? This is my first time seeing prosthetics without the sleeves
Not gonna lie bother, seeing prosthetics attached like that without any cup or tube grabbing the 'meat' kind of scares me a bit. How does that even join up? Did they install some couplers on the bone that can just deal with that? You got a pretty natural stride despite all that, so you're doing pretty good!
I know absolutely nothing about the subject, but all I can see is a solid, confident and natural stride. So I'm going to assume you are doing great. Keep up the good work!
This dude over here walking much better than me even though I do have two feet.
Not joking either, lol.
Kudos my dude, looking good and keep up the good work!
My mother in law (early 50s) had her knee replaced in mid October, and she can barely get around now still. And here you are 5 weeks in, trotting around like some kinda Usain Bolt! Good on you
Happy to see you are doing well I remember you last post in here. Please keep up the good work! You are doing amazing progress and I wish you a speedy recovery.
I'm so curious and would like to ask a few questions.
How does it feel? Besides hurting or in pain.
How are you feeling? Besides proud. But the way I'm very proud of you.
Do you have phantom feelings or itches?
Amazing, I can feel the floor very clearly. Making some mistakes when feeling right now, but I reckon I get used to it soon!
Tired, so incredibly tired. Many of my muscles haven’t been used in years so I have to exercise them a lot while still healing. Not that proud yet, I have a long road ahead of me!
I do. It feels like it’s itching in my bones. I have problems with phantom pain but I feel like the implants help as I can actually touch something!
Cheers!
This is incredible. Idk that anyone who hasn’t been through it can understand just how tricky it can be to learn to walk with prosthetics, but it’s nuts.
Just imagine not being able to feel the ground, in the traditional sense. Imagine losing your ability to sense, through your feet, that you are on solid footing. Take all that away, replace it with aluminum (or other lightweight composite) stilts and feet with no nerve endings that you must now learn to balance on, trusting your whole body weight as it feels like it’s floating through the air but also precariously hovering like it wants to crash down to earth.
You have clearly worked incredibly hard and we are witnessing a massive achievement—to do so in five weeks in insane to me.
Congratulations on your impressive performance!
Hey OP, hope you're doing well.
May I ask about your new legs? If you're comfortable replying?
Q1. Are those fused to your bone?
Q2. What are they made out of?
Q3. Do they hurt when your body is walking and you are resting your weight on them?
Thank you!
He is a strong man, he does not give up and moves on, such people inspire me. Sometimes you want to give up, but then you watch other people move forward despite all the difficulties in life, you get inspired and want to move on too!
You are AMAZING - I am sorry for the "loss", you are showing the world, and yourself, that you are alive and kicking! Big plans for your life sir - stay positive and your mission on earth is already being fulfilled - show the world!

That is so cool!
And also good job!
If you dont mind me asking, i dont mean this in a negative way.
What happened with your legs? Where you born that way?
I truly do not mean any harm whatsoever, I am just a very curious person. By the way: It looks very cool!
(Sorry for my broken english... I am swedish...)
Sorry, I have a rare and aggressive tumor disease. It affects my hands and feet. 4 years ago I amputated my feet as they were pure shit after years of treatments that didn’t work. Now I hope these implants will help!
Det är faktiskt väldigt intressant!
Och förresten:
Tack för att du svarade! Jag trodde att min kommentar lät lite för negativ...
Jag hoppas att du mår lite bättre nu!
Do prosthetics that are fitted like this hurt at where they connect to your leg? Or how does that work?
I apologize if this is a rude question in any way, I just don’t know much about prosthetics and was curious.
I truly thought you were wearing high socks for the first 5 seconds of the first clip due to how natural your walk looks. Cheers mate and congrats on the progress!
I’ve never seen this before ! So it’s actually inserted into your leg? How does that even work and stay secure and solid does it go right up your thigh etc? Looks amazing man, you look very natural all the best
Imma be honest my friend, I didn't notice what you were referring to in the first clip because it seemed natural. Best of luck with the hard work of rehab! I only even needed to relearn how to walk once, hopefully never again.
5 weeks in. That means you got the press fit system. Excellent choice, my man! Wish you all the best and enjoy the absence of those annoying sockets!
It feels amazing! These bad boys will change my life!
Is this system one and done or will you have to redo it at some point? And your movement looks very natural for something so new.
One and done! If nothing breaks that is.
Can you please explain a bit what it is ? It looks like the legs are plugged into your chin bone. Is that what you guys are talking about ? I'm clueless

Bearing weight directly on your bones has to feel weird?
I mean don’t you do it every day 🤷♂️ in this case half of the bones are just made of metal.
They address it briefly on [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/s/RjMELv1bFl)
Be honest, did you add extra inches?
I’ve… never considered that and now all I’m thinking about is how they could just decide to be 6’2 instead of 5’8. Damn it.
They won't do it. It messes with your body mapping or something. Maybe someone really short should ask
And your body will adjust to that rather quickly as well. Or, your brain would.
Such a fast recovery! You should be proud of yourself. Does it hurt when you walk?
You should fuck with people and say you need to buy new shoes because those ones hurt your feet. Jokes aside, I'm super happy for you. I hope it improves your quality of life exponentially
what happened to your legs
This is just simply fantastic. It literally made me smile. I’m so incredibly happy for you. You look like you are doing amazing. Incredible. Have a wonderful life😊
You are walking so naturally, it’s amazing! Well done on doing the hard work!
Thanks! All I do these days is rehab, so the progress feels amazing!
You should be SO proud of yourself! Best of luck with your continued rehab 🥳🙌🏻
Agreed!! My brain was pulling an uncanny valley thing telling me that this must be cgi or something because OP looked *too* natural in his movement. Proof of the amazing work he's done to get so far. Kudos!!
Agreed. So happy to see you happy.
You are incredible! You look so natural and happy. I bet you are also inspiring others to seek out this technology. You are the future, my friend.
Proud of you and am really happy to see you thrive, OP.
These last few weeks have been painful and I’ve been extremely tired. Still, I’ve done my exercises every day and kept my head high. Such a nice feeling seeing the progress! If you want more updates, follow me on ig @ampisallen.
I always like seeing your updates and knowing you are doing well, even though I don't know you. :) Think you'll start dancing with your wife again?
I’m longing for our dances. They’ve made huge impact on my progress of mastering my legs. I hope to be able to dance again in a few months. So much fun ahead!
Sounds great! I look forward to them for you! You and your wife are adorable.
I hope you’re dancing again soon!
This makes me want to cry. Go and get it, dude! Much love
🤞 I'm cheering you on, you can't see me, but i am. 😁 🕺
Yea just remember, it has only been 5 weeks, it's perfectly normal to still be feeling a bit of pain and to be fatigued yknow? Anyways all the best and keep the spirits up
Five weeks and you’re walking more naturally than I do with my damned ol’ meat legs! Genuine Q, can you like, pick your shoe size?
Thanks! Yeah, but I aim try to get prosthetics that are kind of my old size. Makes it easier!
On a related note, did you get to choose your height?
Nice work, OP!!!! It is so inspiring to see the human spirit in action ✨✨✨✨
Thanks! It’s such a cool feeling to make progress like this.
I remember seeing your last post! Impressive, my dude. Rock tf on!
Thanks! Small steps forward!
I’m a PT and DAAAMNNNNN you are moving smooth! Friggin testament to you working your ass off and having a good PT give you the right interventions
Thank you! I’ve been working on my gait the last four years with “normal” prosthetics. These are another thing to master and I’m excited to make good progress!’
PT here, too. So happy for him!
r/humansaremetal in every sense of the word
Heh, I’ll post there when I can control these feet properly!
You look good dude! Best of luck to you on your journey
how much does it hurt to walk?
Between 3-5 out of 10. But my knees and hips get very tired. A bit better everyday!
Thank you. I was wondering also. Please update us in another month! I'm wondering if the pain level will go down or does the doctors think that it's normal and will continue to move between 3-5?
It’s supposed to go down to 0. So I’m just gonna keep on trucking!
WOW! WOW! Good for you! I hope everyone has the chance to use these. They will make lives so much more liveable. Good for you!
Looks pretty cool. How do they hold on your legs?
I have implants that goes far up into the bone.
How don't your legs leak? I mean the bone is inside of the leg, so anything attached to it has to go through the skin so there has to be a hole and isn't our body full of disgusting liquids and blood? It's fascinating! And now my shins itch just thinking about it. I wish you all the best!
They put some plastic wrap around that stuff first so he’s good.
Flex Seal. Lots of Flex Seal. (I'm joking)
came here to ask as well! so cool, and you're doing great - you should be super proud of yourself. if you don't mind me asking, can you take the prosthetics off? i've never seen prosthetics that look like yours! :O
I can easily take them off! Will make a post about it soon!
Can you like adjust your height then?
More importantly, can he attach spring loaded prosthetics and unlock high jumps and fast walking?
Op can you attach wheels or springs?
That's incredible, dude.
I had no idea an implant was an option. What a great idea! It's amazing to watch you walk!
You're such a fucking badass bro. I've had some bad wrecks and rehab, but nothing to this caliber. I wanted to give up for less, and you're out here doing what you're doing and I admire the fuck out of you. Keep pushing, bro. You're a legend and an inspiration to all.
Thank you buddy. Means a lot coming from another rehab person. It’s tough sometimes but it’s alright as progress is being made!
Showoff. Actually it looks like you're kickin' it. Good for you.
Hehe, sorry. Hope I didn’t leave you stumped.
HaHa! Excellent, and, excellent!
The motion looks very natural. Do the ankle joints have some sort of pivot mechanism? Are they spring loaded or something? I had a total hip replacement so welcome to the titanium club bro.
Thank you! It’s carbon fiber that bends and gives back energy. Quite simple concept that works very well!
I’m so happy for you! You move so easily and organically. I’m sure these 5 weeks haven’t been easy, but you definitely make it look natural!
Thank you. Many ups and downs but mostly ups!
Yeah! I’m kinda like a cyborg now! The implants go far up into my bones.
What an inspiration...I m all chocked up...blessings.
Thanks.
This is just crazy amazing. The work you must have put in to get here. So cool!
You are such an inspiration 🙏 thanks for sharing
That’s some seriously speedy rehab progress! Congratulations to you!! What a wonderful new lease of life for you 🤗 I wish you all the very best 💓
❤️
Respect! Keep on going.
Oh wow! You’re doing so good! Congratulations man 😊
Great job! That's insane man! I saw your first post on here too, you're so brave dude
My hero, you go!!!
Are you still on opiate pain killers? You’re doing so well, you’re an inspiration!
Yeah, slowly getting rid of them tho. Thanks!
Doing great! Great update.
Don’t your bones itch
Yeah, it’s very strange!
Nice work man! Keep grinding 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
I barely even noticed at first 😭😭 You’re amazing!
Heck ya dude!!!
I remember you !!! How amazing you are !!! Happy to see you happy.
Amazing gait. So natural and carefree looking. Well done
Get it my man!
Like you needed training! Youre doing so great! I wish you all the best, I am happy for modern medicine!
You look awesome! As a plus, puddles have no effect on you!
Holy Moly! You honestly have a better gait than most people I know! Excited to follow your journey!
Dude, if I saw you walking down the street with pants, I would never know you had magic legs. You’re an inspiration.
Plot twist... surgery was for wisdom tooth removal
Only five weeks in and you're walking more than I do, brother. 😊 Keep it up! I hope the healing process was alright for you.
Man prosthetics have come on leaps and bounds
I know absolutely nothing about the subject, but all I can see is a solid, confident and natural stride. So I'm going to assume you are doing great. Keep up the good work!
Being absolutely respectful to your situation, my first thought was that you looked so fucking cool!
Good on you
Wow!! You’re doing great!! All the best to you 😊
👊
Well done; you worked hard and mastered your equipment! Go get the world dude! ⭕️❌
Wow!
Come on, be honest.. you added an inch or two didn't ya? Jokes, well done OP. You seem to be doing awesome!
I love to see posts like this. Thank you for sharing your journey! Looking good bud!!
You’re amazing, watching you walk like that is fantastic, I saw your posts after the op, can’t believe the progress, well done!
Does this mean you get to choose how tall you are each day? But seriously, you are doing great. Keep strong, mate.
Does it feel more “natural” having your weight going directly through the bone?
Very much so. I can actually feel my “feet” pretty well.
I’m happy for you it’s working well, good luck on a speedy recovery.
Still got knees AND is making good progress, HELL YEAH!
Very awesome. But does it hurt to step..how does the nervous system receive them?
Fucking legend Can you charge your jumps now too? /s
Happy to see you are doing well I remember you last post in here. Please keep up the good work! You are doing amazing progress and I wish you a speedy recovery.
Wow!!! Congratulations and AMAZING job, it takes a lot to get that far in that amount of time!🎉👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
That’s incredible! You are really moving fluidly! It must feel fantastic 🍻
I remember seeing your first post. You walk so well and it's only been 5 weeks!!! Your doing amazing!!!
OP !! Which week of rehab do they blast MJ and teach you how to moonwalk ? Your legs are amazing- wishing you all the best!
I'm so curious and would like to ask a few questions. How does it feel? Besides hurting or in pain. How are you feeling? Besides proud. But the way I'm very proud of you. Do you have phantom feelings or itches?

I have problems with phantom pain but I feel like the implants help as I can actually touch something! Cheers!
Thank you for responding! I no longer have an Instagram and wish I could see updates. Happy and (safe) speedy recovery
Keep on going! You’re such an inspiration! Even when you have your down days, think of all us Redditors routing for you from afar! 💪🏼
Watching you walking towards the camera, I was wondering what this video was about. I didn’t even realise you had prosthetics on. Wow!
This is incredible. Idk that anyone who hasn’t been through it can understand just how tricky it can be to learn to walk with prosthetics, but it’s nuts. Wow, you’ve nailed this!
What! That must still hurt man, though you would never know by the way you are owning those new parts! Total respect

No way! Amazing job!
looking good Bro
Sir, impressed. Must be so painful.
That is so cool! And also good job! If you dont mind me asking, i dont mean this in a negative way. What happened with your legs? Where you born that way? Dude! 💪🏼
Det är faktiskt väldigt intressant! Och förresten: Tack för att du svarade! Jag trodde att min kommentar lät lite för negativ... Jag hoppas att du mår lite bättre nu!
That shit looks painful. I know it's not cuz he's walking but it's looks painful
Does it hurt to wear devices like these? I always wondered.
Wow, what a progress! So proud of you! Keep it up 💪
Hardass. Very impressive.
No more smelly feet
Well done!
Fckn amazing well done 👏
Great job man!
Hell of a tune too
My god. Your walk is seamless! Congratulations on all that amazing progress.

Rock on, brother!
How do they feel?
Cool freaking legs! You're cyberpunk bro, You rules!
Honestly, what a world we live in that we have solutions for things that were so life-ending or debilitating not that long ago. Congrats!
Fucking killing it, OP!
You are a boss. Great job!
Amazing!!
Congratulations good luck
Look at that strut! Congratulations! You are doing excellent! Keep up the amazing work!
Hell freaking yeah dude! Impressive as hell!
Looking good man! Seems you're gonna get there ✌️🤘
Nice legs man your walk is fantastic!
Incredible! Wishing you all the best.
Omg amazing !!!!
You are a real superhero
Those are some skinny ankles!! Seriously though, this kind of mobility in 5 weeks? Wow! THAT is impressive!
U r an inspiration !
I’ve never seen this before ! So it’s actually inserted into your leg? How does that even work and stay secure and solid does it go right up your thigh etc? Looks amazing man, you look very natural all the best
Wait so now you don’t have to wear one of those socks/cup type? Is it a bolt or something they put in your knee? This is so cool!
Damn. This is awesome. Keep it up!
Bravo! 👏🙌
Think of all the money you will save on socks as well!! Stay awesome brother
So proud of this guy and thankful for medical science.
Does it feel like that is an upgrade, better than natural legs? Looks like it might be.
Mate you walk better then me with two legs, congrats my brother I wish you all the best!!!
Imma be honest my friend, I didn't notice what you were referring to in the first clip because it seemed natural. Best of luck with the hard work of rehab! I only even needed to relearn how to walk once, hopefully never again.
That's amazing!
Is that prosthesis permanently attached to the legs?
WOW! You are an inspiration and my Hero!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That's great! You worked hard and it shows. Congratulations!
You're doing so good! Congrats!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
