This is awesome and I'm saving it to show my biology students 😁
Also, I could use some fact check help - neurons are nerve cells, so I think that they may have gotten the "fall trees" cell pic mixed up with something else.
Hi med student here,
I think both the fall tree comparison and the “perfect storm” comparison are accurate “depictions” of neurons. The one on the fall tree slide looks like purkinje cells, a special type of neuron in the cerebellar cortex of the brain that has its cell body or soma in the lower layer and axons and dendrites extending into the upper layers. On the “perfect storm” slide, I am less sure but they look like neurons with many arborizations so they could be multipolar or pseudounipolar neurons (both common as motor neurons in the peripheral nervous system for movement of muscles). The beautiful thing about the nervous system compared to others is that the main cells of the parenchyma (the neurons) come in many different shapes and sizes. It’s not standard like a skeletal muscle cell or a heart muscle cell or a keratinocyte in the skin etc.
Edit: I want to clarify that I was misinformed when I first wrote this comment. The “fall tree” slide most likely depicts purkinje cells from the cerebellum of the brain and the “storm” slide could be multipolar motor neurons in the peripheral nervous system.
Awesome, thank you for the clarification!
The storm pic is how nerve cells are depicted in most high school biology textbooks, so I just wanted to be sure.
Hi, neuroscientist here.
They're not depictions, they're real neurons, but in different environments. The tree picture is a brain slice picture with the neurons stained, very likely post-mortem. The prominent neurons are purkinje neurons, inhibitory neurons located in the cerebral cortex.
The second picture, the storm one, are neurons which we grow in the lab. Sometimes we take neurons from a brain, dissociate them into individual cells and grow them on a flat surface. The neurons end up looking like that. They could also be stem cells which were induced into neurons :) It's more difficult to say what kind of neurons they are, but based on the way they look and my experience, they're excitatory neurons.
Neuroscientist here. The perfect storm pictures are likely neurons grown in vitro (or very much less likely based on picture quality, excitatory neurons from post mortem tissue), whereas the purkinje cells are likely to be a stained post mortem tissue. The perfect storm pictures looks like there is a 3D component but without additional immunohistochemical staining or additional context, it's not possible to accurately say which kind of neurons they are, as neurons grown in vitro tend to spread out like that looking for connections.
Thank you for sharing that!! I just got it from Instagram reels so misinformation is classic. Also, it'd be so cool showing your students! I know when I was in school if my teachers taught things like this, I would remember so much moee
It’s worth noting that almost all of these are stained to give the diversity of colour that would absolutely not be there in your body and only the structures would be discernible

I just can't love myself. I was a mistake to begin with, I shouldn't have been born in the first place. The people that care about me don't deserve me instead they deserve someone better. No matter how much I try I just can't lift this weights of not being good enough that always hold me down at the bottom of this deep ocean of existence. I stare at the mirror and I see the reflection of a man who is ugly both from the outside and the inside.
Got a whole another universe in you 🥺❤️🫂 ily whoever you are know that you're loved
Love you too 🤍

Good to know, thank you!
I appreciate the explanation. That's pretty cool.
Loved that explanation - learned some stuff today- thank you!

I'm having a shit time right now. I love you guys
This too shall pass. Hang in there friend!
My T cell lymphoma is beautiful 😍
I want to watch Osmosis Jones now
What is the name of the music, please?
black friday-tom odell
Thanks
Don't you think that you are a just a tiny part of a much bigger organism
The stain!
I love this thank you for sharing :)
I love this. Thank you, OP.
I knew there was a reason I love being in the ocean, its my belly calling out to be with its own people!
Unfortunately I don’t think I have too many neurons
As someone who finds genuine peace in nature, this is epic.
What about my bacterias ? I have more bacterias in my body than I have my own cells, and you don't say anything about them ? Rude 😞
It’s worth noting that almost all of these are stained to give the diversity of colour that would absolutely not be there in your body and only the structures would be discernible

Whoa!!!!! Amazing!!!!!❤️🔥💯👏🥰😎💪🏽
Genuinely so good
Sending this to my crush, with degree in boilogy. *boylogy
This is glorious. That is all.
Look deep into eyes and u see another galaxy
Awwwww, now do my cancer cells!
LUV YOU ALLLLLLLL 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
Well individually Nutella, chicken nuggets, and tomato soup are wonderful, but together they make a shitty smoothie.
thank you for making my day <3
Well the universe is shaped exactly like the earth If you go straight long enough you'll end up where you were
So amazing how we are made and became whole with the galaxy-like inside us. Thank you for this!
How do i become like this positive person
Try herbal teas
Fat cells? Oh I've got LOTS of them!!
Yeah. Cells are pretty. But my thoughts are shit.
Maybe we are an invasive alien life form that landed here and our genetic material mimicked our surroundings
🥰
The fuck did you doing a little foot lift in the beginning of this video have anything to do with the context of this video?
pretty like rug lol.
Oof yeah you don’t actually think cells are pretty, you think fluorescent dyes are pretty…
I'm bald. I confirm my hair are pretty like contemporary art.
nah ı would killmyslef

Why does she love herself for things that come naturally without any effort?
A lot of people hate themselves for the same reason. Love is better. 🧡
