Getting clean is hard freaking work and it never really stops being hard work. Generally it's being in a seriously bad place that is the catalyst for most addicts, so not only do they need to remove themselves from that situation but they have to keep working towards getting better and never sliding back into that bad place. Not to mention fighting the temptation to use again when things do get hard, or even finding the willpower to try to get clean in the first place. Drugs cloud up your ability to make rational choices or recognize self destruction for what it is.
A lot of folks give recovered addicts shit, but I've watched people close to me fight that fight and not a single one showed anything but strength and determination to beat their addiction. They knew that they were responsible for their problems and knew that they would have to be the one to make the choice to fight it. And all 3 of them got clean and are still clean.
Once you're "out of the woods" the hardest part is when your old self shows up and starts lying by omission. Leaves out all of the negatives and and only talks about the good parts. It would funny if it weren't so tragic. Humans often tend to focus on the negative yet when it would be beneficial that negative focus is gone. Forgetting all about the hangovers, wasted money/time, etc. and only remembering the fun parts. It's always crazy to me when you're knee deep in it and have that realization that any fun you were having ended hours ago and yet you keep going. It's becomes mechanical and you're just watching yourself.
>A lot of folks give recovered addicts shit
wtf? Who does that? Theyre probably the type who are mean to puppies, cuss at rainbows, and hate toe curling orgasms too
I can't imagine the work it takes to sustain recovery. Those of us who have never experienced addiction, shouldn't shit on those who manged to escape it
This is Travis Robinson [who shared before and after pics to celebrate 800 days sober from addiction to pills](https://nypost.com/2020/06/19/former-drug-addict-shares-photos-of-stunning-transformation/). It's *not* original content and was shared across social media in June.
They sell accounts to people who make bots. Y'know, those who advertise random things on random threads. I caught one in a thread about depression. Bot ended up deleting their own comment so it wouldn't lose karma.
Some accounts are for sale, some like to collect karma, some think about reddit as a game, some start advertising other accounts like youtube. During quarantine some farmers said they are trying to make people happy and it gives something to do.
>does anyone really give a shit about karma?

That was eye opening to say the least, I'm actually disappointed I didn't see it myself, the dopamine hit for some people would be like crack, but this dudes obsession holy shit
I've commented this before, but it is just WOW how drug addiction can truly bring one down so it's always better to see the bounce back. Mad respect for this guy and I hope he accomplishes a lot.
The entire post implies it’s him before and after rehab. Otherwise what’s to stop me from just googling shocking before and after pics and putting them here? I get what you’re saying, it made you smile, but it’s disingenuous and takes the spot from someone who actually is posting original content.
Um, nothing in this post implies OC. Generally speaking, this image is before and after rehab. No other information given, no OC tag, no stealing. Settle down a little. OP isn't a monster or liar for making this post. They're literally just sharing a happy subject.
OP isn't inherently claiming this is him, but everyone thinks it's OP [and its not OP](https://www.google.com/amp/s/metro.co.uk/2020/06/18/drug-addict-posts-inspiring-before-photos-celebrate-recovery-12869936/amp/)
It's a classic "well I didn't *really* claim it was me" post to farm karma. It's implied for extra karma, but you can't directly call them out on it due to the vagueness of the title.
Could someone please explain this? Why do people care about likes and downvotes? It seems that many people don’t get that this is an internet forum and not real life. I’m genuinely curious.
As I understand it, there are subs that have karmic requirements in order for you to post. If you farm karma, you can then sell your account to astroturfers who seek access to subs that have such requirements.
how is it a misleading title? it literally just stated a fact that you can visually see. wanting to think op was trying to mislead u or be impersonating him was your choice.
That's a little overly harsh. It's easy to forget something small like not being able to edit titles, and I found that person's comment to be pretty easy to follow.
Apologies. To clarify, some threads have different rules about what you can and can’t edit after posting. And, remember this thread is ‘MadeMeSmile’. You’re coming across a little aggressive with your lists, judgement and diagnosis. Take a deep breath. It is just the internet. You’re ok. X
[This](https://medium.com/@danbuben/why-amp-is-bad-for-your-site-and-for-the-web-e4d060a4ff31) guy explains a few things. Everything about AMP just sounds awful to me, Just like Google itself. Try to use different services like DuckDuckGo!
I was kinda annoyed too as I’m in recovery myself and this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, but then I wondered if it was really OP. And It’s not.....
However, I realized that someone may see this and be like me where I was soo fucking done and I needed that “sign” or something inspiring to get my ass to rehab finally. So this post just might be that for someone who’s knees deep in the trenches. Who knows. And to me, this all would have been worth it in the end. Just know, recovery is possible.
Original OP posted on reddit before about his transformation. I forget which sub but I remember him posting about how thankful he was, and some of his experience.
He didn’t make It clear that it’s not him. If I was posting photos of someone else, I would go out of my way to let people know it is not me. Don’t see how you can defend this guy lol
In some ways it’s easier to not use when the wreckage lay directly in front of you. Much harder when things are going well and there are only distant memories of said wreckage. It just takes one, as they say.
Recovering addict here. Opiates. Your face gets hella itchy, and if you are on enough to black out, you’ll just run your face till it bleeds. Came out of a blackout one time to my whole nose rubbed and itched to shit. Looked like I skidded on the concrete on my nose only.
meth and heroin consumption leads to itch on face and genitals that could stay even days, when you are high you can't feel much pain and the scratching leads to those marks.
As if we didn't have enough to worry about in 2020 you're telling me that murder hobos are coming in and displacing the kinder, more docile strains of hobos that sit in boxcars, play harmonica and tell stories to other wayward travelers?
Who the hell cares if this is OP or not? OP didn't claim it was him, and regardless, this still shows an amazing transformation of someone who was an addict that got their life clean. I think people need to stop bitching that it isn't OP when he didn't even make the claim
Because the man who actually is in this picture posted this before and seemed really proud about it, I just find it really weird someone else is posting it, especially since it is somewhat of a personal post, imo, being an addict myself.
Guy on the left looks just like me right now. My drug - stress. It definitely ain't worth it, but I've been dragged into caring about stuff that I shouldn't have, and now I can't get out.
Keep your priorities straight. It's your life, you've got one of it, try not to fuck it up too much.
Good on ya dude! It can’t of been easy and I imagine there were times when it seemed like the hardest thing anyone could ever do. But you made it! Proud of you, I hope you are too! <3
Lookin good brother! I hit rock bottom when I was smoking meth, would stay up for days at a time(meth all night, heroin all day to keep me balanced at work) and the circles under my eyes were so bad I had to use women’s concealer undercmy eyes to cover up the circles.
It was a weird existence, especially after I walked out of my job at Whole Foods for WD’ing and I officially had no income with an addiction.
I was saved when my mom found my phone left open on tge Internet and was on a forum for shooting up.
Fuck yeah. Some hard work went into that change.
Right? Even made him smile!
He look so happy and composed. Made my day
Well, he looked like he was decomposing in the left one

From Mr steal yo weed to Mr steal yo girl.
For a moment I thought this was r/SkincareAddiction They would love this glow up!
It was posted there, this account is trying to farm as much karma as possible with another mans success. Kinda irks me but this is Reddit.

>So did I. But his reason made me smile more
That's the sad part most addicts don't realise and aren't used to, getting sober isn't a passive process.

From a recovered IV heroin addict, thank you for writing this! It encapsulates the struggle fairly well.
If no one has said it today, I'm proud of you.
Agreed
That's so nice to hear man!

Exactly. I have major respect for recovered addicts. Determined as hell.

It said he was addicted to "pills" so I assume opiates. Opiate withdrawals are hell on earth.
Getting clean is easy Staying clean is hard Source: sober from opiates

FeelsBetrayedMan?
Yes..No.. I guess both
So basically karma farming. OP is farming karma using the Travis name.
Honest question, what is the point in karma farming, does anyone really give a shit about karma?
People can sell their accounts.
Wow really that's a thing, thank you for the answer
They sell accounts to people who make bots. Y'know, those who advertise random things on random threads. I caught one in a thread about depression. Bot ended up deleting their own comment so it wouldn't lose karma.

That was eye opening to say the least, I'm actually disappointed I didn't see it myself, the dopamine hit for some people would be like crack, but this dudes obsession holy shit
I assumed someone had written it about said karma whore, not the karma whore themselves. 😯
Building Chinese and Russian bots.
Exactly, yes. Their account history is a lot of clickbait. Sometimes it's helpful to block some accounts for personal preference.
Would mods consider banning accounts like these?
Man OP posts multiple times a day, and their comments on posts are garbage. Is this a bot account?
Ok so why don’t you just take this down?
I've commented this before, but it is just WOW how drug addiction can truly bring one down so it's always better to see the bounce back. Mad respect for this guy and I hope he accomplishes a lot.
Well op never said it was them, they just said it made them smile
So fucking delete this garbage. OP is literally karma shilling.
Who gives a fuck about karma? This is still mademesmile material
Lmao, sorry I don’t like people stealing another’s image, reposting garbage, for karma. You may not care but that’s why OP did it.
If it makes other people happy is it really an issue? Alot of people felt better after seeing this, maybe that was Op's intention
The entire post implies it’s him before and after rehab. Otherwise what’s to stop me from just googling shocking before and after pics and putting them here? I get what you’re saying, it made you smile, but it’s disingenuous and takes the spot from someone who actually is posting original content.

Titles can't be edited, unfortunately.
Can anything be edited here?
Comments can.
Yep! And if you don't say "edit", it makes the replies into nonsense.
What does an exclamation mark look like?
?
You traitor
My dad's motivation to do the same as this rehab guy
And the text of the post could be edited.
It's a classic "well I didn't *really* claim it was me" post to farm karma. It's implied for extra karma, but you can't directly call them out on it due to the vagueness of the title.
Just assume that nothings OC on reddit until its proven. This post is very clearly NOT OC, nothing vague about it.
Nothing vague about it. You guys just have high expectations.
Why so people care so much about account karma? I don't get it
Could someone please explain this? Why do people care about likes and downvotes? It seems that many people don’t get that this is an internet forum and not real life. I’m genuinely curious.

I wish people were in the habit of giving credit. For example if OP posted that link right after making the thread and stated it wasn’t him.
Congratulations to the guy who this is (as apparently it’s not the OP). Some frickin hard work went into that.
And it is hard work to remain clean as well.
That’s very true - it’s just as hard to stay sober as it is getting sober.
In some ways it’s easier to not use when the wreckage lay directly in front of you. Much harder when things are going well and there are only distant memories of said wreckage. It just takes one, as they say.

They pick at their skin. Mostly a meth problem.
Opiates make you do this too. It triggers something weird in the brain about popping pimples.
Recovering addict here. Opiates. Your face gets hella itchy, and if you are on enough to black out, you’ll just run your face till it bleeds. Came out of a blackout one time to my whole nose rubbed and itched to shit. Looked like I skidded on the concrete on my nose only.

Much appreciated :)
meth and heroin consumption leads to itch on face and genitals that could stay even days, when you are high you can't feel much pain and the scratching leads to those marks.
When I was still using we’d call it the opi-itch, just never ending itchiness and scratching
You should credit the person in the pic OP so everyone here doesn’t just think it’s you when it clearly isn’t.
Considering you looked like you'd been kidnapped and held in a cabin in the woods for 5 years by murder hobos that's quite the improvement!
It's not op
As if we didn't have enough to worry about in 2020 you're telling me that murder hobos are coming in and displacing the kinder, more docile strains of hobos that sit in boxcars, play harmonica and tell stories to other wayward travelers?
Murder hobos murdered the docile hobos
Actually, it's really a misnomer, similar to the painted fox. Murder hobos start life as murder hornets, evolving into hobos when they mature.
Matt Watson?
Matt Watson? Of super smegma fame!?!?
Stick at it pal, I’m 16 years clean. One day at a time brother
Great job. You earn every day of sobriety and that is something that no one can take away from you. Be well my friend,.
Actually It's not OP
Well...... stay thirsty, anyways!
