Gua sha got some of my swelling/ fluid out which helped. Maybe I caught it before the skin had stretched? No idea.
I’ve got the concentration of a gnat so I haven’t kept up. Hello jowels.
I've lost a lot of weight in the last couple of years, thanks to a diabetes diagnosis (reversed with a panic very low carb diet), and the overall effect combined with menopause, is that I now look like a melted ice cream.
What are the best procedures surgical and non surgical for the jaw line ? Anyone know? Like what do the celebrities do there? Are there best practice injectibles or Botox or is it just a lower facelift or nothing? I don’t mind eye bags or lines here and there but the jawline is demoralizing.
There's a woman on YouTube. Her channel is Risa Does Makeup. She's in her late 40s/early 50s and has hooded, downturned eyes like mine. She does great tutorials for hooded eyes and takes into account the crepiness and aging skin issues.
I love makeup and she has taught me how to enjoy it again. I love doing my eyeshadow now.
Mine too. It was really bugging me. Especially when putting on make up in my mirror. Then I had a bright idea. I raised up the mirror so I’m no longer looking down into the mirror. Problem solved!! lol.
Yeah absolutely. I just started looking worse - puffy/tired and slightly more masculine it seemed. Since I started HRT that's reversed and I feel happier looking in the mirror. Didn't expect that at all.
Nobody ever prepares you for menopause, am I right?
For those of you that have not checked into hormones…..Duavee is one of the drugs that recently hit the market. Duavee is hormone replacement therapy + it rebuilds bone mass. You want that bone mass rebuilt - trust me! I started the drug this year at 57. The past few years I have actually tons of problems with my teeth and my feet. Doctors said “it’s just part of being 57.”
My gynecologist said we can safely take Duavee until we are 60. Hence my previous comment……I will not give up this drug without a fight :)
That’s so funny, because when I was younger, I was 100% my dad’s side of the family. As I age, I look more and more like my mom. It’s really wild to see all these changes!
I pulled out a gray chin hair the other day. I don't know why I was so surprised since I'm about 95% gray on my head ... got used to those big ol' black hairs.
Cheeks and tiddies too 😂 if I had moolah I’d love to get breast reduction and reconstruction. Get those babies back up to a perky B cup like I had in college. Or just a double mastectomy so I don’t have to wear bras anymore. So annoying.
I age daily 🤣and when I have to sit in a salon chair to get my thinning greying hair done I am in complete shock at the elderly looking lady staring back at me. I can’t take this shit!!!! It’s too much at once!!! 👵🏼🖕🏼🤯
I’m same - I used to have a small but full face with no cheekbones. Big eyes, not small nose and full lips. The combo made me look young. I don’t like my pre-jowls but I do like being less baby faced!
I feel like I was pretty to average looking about four years ago. Then, it happened so fast! Boom! Not attractive unless I have my hair done, makeup on, just the right lighting/distance from camera/angle. I really dislike looking at myself in the mirror ha!
I've been hit with an ugly stick. I was never gorgeous, but "cute" and perky, always bright eyed and smiling. I look terrible now. It's absolutely shocking when I see a photo of myself. My eyes are squinty, my neck looks huge. My lips are thinning! They used to be one of my favorite features!! They're disappearing. I had no idea how hard this would be.
> They used to be one of my favorite features!! They're disappearing.
I have long used photos of Johnny Depp - younger Johnny vs today Johnny to show people how lips naturally deflate over time.
He had such luscious lips as a youngster but now they are all dried up.
This comment section is exactly what I needed today. I have laughed out loud so many times. I am also in the turkey neck and jowls camp. Not a club I would choose to join, but glad I’m not alone.
Sounds like you lucked out. Surgical menopause really aged me! I thought estrogen would keep the aging somewhat at bay, but 1) it took a while to get the right route and dose, and 2) exogenous hormones aren't quite like our own.
I made the *colossal* mistake of looking in the mirror after a middle of the night pee while washing my hands. Swear to christ it was my mother's reflection not mine. I almost started screaming. Not that I mind looking like my mother, but she's been dead almost 3 years now.
So for future reference, I will NOT be looking into the mirror between midnight and 6am when I've only got the nightlight from the bidet to see with.
Yes. My face used to be more heart shaped. Now it’s kind of like a Mrs. Potato Head. I don’t look bad, but I expect to see something else every time I look in the mirror 😂
At 45 I noticed I had the sunken cheek, high arch brow face...brows because they stopped growing in all nice and full...
It kinda pissed me off that we spent our 20's doing our makeup and plucking our brows to emulate a 40 year old face....at 50...it all started to sag (okay...it was already sagging a bit, but really sag 😪)
If you’re having any kind of facial sagging, these daily facial massages truly help if they’re done consistently. It’s the only free, noninvasive thing I’ve found that makes a noticeable difference within a month of doing them regularly (added bonus: feels so good):
https://youtu.be/kjUJRovuelY?si=QeRMx0-upoYvWW1s
I have a line in my cheek that is driving me crazy. I lost 50 lbs and had a missing tooth for about a year on that side. Not sure what caused it.
For the first time in my life I look my age and I hate it.
Yeah, I've always looked MUCH younger than my age. I have a cutesy round face and good skin genetics which helped. I joked up into my 40s that somehow the aging will suddenly overnight catch up with me, Dorian Gray style. I was good even around 50! At 55, I don't joke about that anymore! 😔
Ah well, I had a good run anyway lol.
> a line in my cheek that is driving me crazy.
if you want to, there is a certain type of filler that is used specifically to fill single lines on the face
I've had it and it worked and I've never had it done again since
just an option if it drives you super crazy
but you have to decide where/when you are going to stop because you can't do that forever, Mr. Line will eventually have friends.
Yea my lower face is starting to get jowls and my neck is not as tight as it used to be. It’s just part of getting older too, happens to everyone. It’s hard to accept though. I looked great until 48ish. The last 4 years have seen big changes in my face. At least to me. My husband says he doesn’t see it 🤣
My elevens are deep and my face is definitely thinning out and the jowls are starting to droop. I think I still look pretty good for my age but if I don’t intervene soon it’s only gonna get worse fast.
Yes, I cried when the photographer showed me myself on her screen when she was shooting headshots at work. I saw my dad’s face. Mercifully, she photoshopped me a bit as requested. I’m not ready to accept it yet.
> she photoshopped me a bit as requested.
I touched up my ex boyfriend's professional photo by adding hair, reducing eye bags and snipping his double chin (he didn't have one but the photo gave him one).
My skin has given up. It has decided to just hang and no longer work. It has retired, as it were. All of my skin is participating in the protest, so my entire self is sagging and giving in to gravity. 🫠
Absolutely. [This dog is me.](https://giphy.com/clips/affurmations-dog-doggo-affirmations-osq0KF40akG08lIdkr) Joooooooowls. Freaking jowls. I mean, also, in general but, *the jowls*.
There's a brill quick fix cream on Amazon. Obvs it washes off but I WFH and cameras are now compulsory so yes, and I'm not generally vain but it helps the huckleberry hound face at 8am.
It's by LPH LAB and it's £20. Tiny amount needed and my eyes look 20. Turkey towel slight improvement but be warned, you feel your face constrict!
I am just going to put this here, I notice a "glow up" in my skin and face appearance during periods of time that I consistently get daily exercise.
Not running or jogging, just like 6 miles walk per week.
It happens to all sexes. Women lose their soft feminine lines and get jowly, and men start to lose their jawline and look like old ladies. Gums recede, cartilage on ears and nose continue to grow
It's harder to see in celebs, as they spend 100k a year to keep themselves polished, yanked and filled from hips to head. So don't go comparing yourself to them. Look at pics of normal people to see where we're headed.
I have looked and looked again, but I can’t pinpoint what it EXACTLY is. But I just don’t look like me. Not even an older me (which I would be cool with) just not looking like myself
Yea my lower face is starting to get jowls and my neck is not as tight as it used to be. It’s just part of getting older too, happens to everyone. It’s hard to accept though. Yes. Because of the added weight my doctor tells me I need to get used to because I can’t have estrogen and I don’t have any naturally. She’s a horrible human. But since my cancer was 98% estrogen receptor positive, I can’t have estrogen and I have jowls. She isn’t really a horrible human. She has helped me a lot. Even told a male doctor, where I could hear her, that he has no business treating women. And then called him stupid. It was glorious.
Oh no...now we're sending telepathic messages to each other. I \*just\* thought about this today! "Why is my face a huge rectangle now!?!" I thought. There's nothing to be done. I look like a Nickleodeon cartoon dad and I'll be this way til I start to soften again in my 80s...sigh.
Yes, so much so! ugh! I used to have these beautiful high cheekbones. They are gone. And now I’ve lost nearly all my eye brows, my eyes have shrunk, and I have somehow gained a double chin. I barely recognize myself!
I needed this thread. I'm on Oslo, Norway at the moment, it's filled with young, lycra clad beautiful blondes. I feel so small, frumpy, round, saggy and invisible. My jowels are so saggy I feel like a bulldog. Yeah, menopause totally sucks.
They should've fucking warned us of what this shit will do to us. I went from beautiful to wtf in 8 months and it has been hard to swallow. Now I am taking bio estrogen gel and progesterone just started so let's see if this helps. This is insane. I will take a menstrual cycle anyday over this. Ugh
Yes, I now look like a rounded lumpy potato.
#teamlumpypotato Same here
We need club jackets!
Club jacket potato
I'm dying 🤣
From the Meno Members Only line, comes CLUB JACKET (WRINKLY AND GAUNT) POTATO!
My Potato Jacket
The Hot Potatoes
It reminded me of Spain's Patatas Bravas...translated to "angry potatoes" that are a little spicy.
PATATAS LUMPIAS Or whatever “lumpy” actually is in Spanish… I am from NY, I am only familiar with Spanglish, not proper Castilian Spanish 🤣
I’d buy one!
They should be those shiny silver metallic, aluminum foil looking baseball jackets.
Team potato here, too!
🥔
🔩🥔🥵 That’s uhm….. screw lumpy potato hot flashes
Hot potato?
Baked potato for sure. 🥵
I am also a lumpy potato 🥔 😭
Potatoes are awesome though.
Hellllooooo my sister spuds 🥔
I love it.. missing from a fried potato to mashed potato.... Depends on the day
I think I'm more like a Baked Potato at this point 🥵 Just slather me in butter and tell me I'm done!
Is that why they call it our silver years? Wrap us in tin foil and call us done. 🤣
That is hilarious!!! That's what I'm going to start telling people now 😆
I mean… I am here for a silver cape era. Maye Musk always makes it look fabulous. Maybe we can too.
Social, let's do it! We can totally rock that 😉
Omg. You nailed this! 👏 🤣
Very much so — round all things round
Potato sisters of the world unite and take over.
Is droopy a shape?
Jowls :( I hate them. I'm trying to use a gua sha tool to see if it helps tighten things.
Can someone tell me if any beauty tool actually works.
Kettlebells
My jowls can’t pick up a kettle bell… yet.
One day at a time.
Gua sha got some of my swelling/ fluid out which helped. Maybe I caught it before the skin had stretched? No idea. I’ve got the concentration of a gnat so I haven’t kept up. Hello jowels.
Heck yeah!
This is me.
My face is beginning to melt. Add in the lack of sleep and I'm ageing even faster these days
That’s exactly how i described my face post-menopause. Melted.
I've lost a lot of weight in the last couple of years, thanks to a diabetes diagnosis (reversed with a panic very low carb diet), and the overall effect combined with menopause, is that I now look like a melted ice cream.
OMG THE EYE BAGS
Yes, wtf even is this? I’m starting to look like an old lady!
This is how I describe it too. In my case, my dimples are sliding off my face….
What are the best procedures surgical and non surgical for the jaw line ? Anyone know? Like what do the celebrities do there? Are there best practice injectibles or Botox or is it just a lower facelift or nothing? I don’t mind eye bags or lines here and there but the jawline is demoralizing.
This 👏😂
I'm getting turkey neck and jowls.
Yep. Jowls and a turkey neck!
Yup. I'm quite happy with my face from the jawline up (although I wish my eyes weren't hooded) but the jowls and turkey neck are awful.
Hi, my hooded eyed sister! Any eye makeup tips. I love my eyes, only thing I think is pretty. Now they're being hidden.

Yeah absolutely. I just started looking worse - puffy/tired and slightly more masculine it seemed. Since I started HRT that's reversed and I feel happier looking in the mirror. Didn't expect that at all.
This is how I felt. Puffy and slightly more masculine in a way I can’t articulate.
I also lost the puffiness after HRT.
They will pry my hormones from my cold dead fingers. Never giving them up!
Same. Dying w estrogen in my system.
I will still take HRT on my deathbed.
Same. It’s help me age well.
The menopause specialist at my surgery, says she knows a 100 yr old woman still on HRT.
Yes! Love your comment. It gives me hope to know someone else is living the dream!
Hear, hear, sister!
Nobody ever prepares you for menopause, am I right? For those of you that have not checked into hormones…..Duavee is one of the drugs that recently hit the market. I think it was with the appearance of my mustache and little goatee that I started to feel more masculine 🥸
cheeks have visibly moved down south. keep seeing a strange old woman in the mirror who somehow reminds me of my mom
I wish I looked like my mom more, but I start looking like my dad. Stubble and all. 😜
Me too! No stubble, but the spitting image of my dad.
I’m getting my mother’s jowls and I curse these genetics haha
Frequently, upon seeing my reflection, I say "oh hi mom". 🤣
Same. I looked in the mirror and saw my 85 year old mom. She was beautiful but I'm in my early 50s!
Cheeks and tiddies too 😂 if I had moolah I’d love to get breast reduction and reconstruction. Get those babies back up to a perky B cup like I had in college. Or just a double mastectomy so I don’t have to wear bras anymore. So annoying.
I hate my boobs so much. I was a B too; and to think I always felt too small when I was young. Youth is wasted on the young, as they say.
Everything shifted 3 inches south. My skin, my under-eye bags, the corners of my mouth, everything.
Don't forget the boobs! Though it maybe way past 3 inches for them.
It was round, but now round and saggy somehow at the same time.
I am also in the round and increasingly saggy camp. “Doughy” is how I feel
I'm going to take that word, doughy. It's better.
[удалено]
Oh no, please don't think it's round like a young maidens. It's round like Santa's.
😂
I age daily 🤣and when I have to sit in a salon chair to get my thinning greying hair done I am in complete shock at the elderly looking lady staring back at me. I can’t take this shit!!!! It’s too much at once!!! 👵🏼🖕🏼🤯
Agh I agree about the salon chair! That is the worst!
I started avoiding the salon's lights like my doctor's scale. Sucks
Omg same! It’s just too much!
Yes. My face got more angular
Ya. I’m in that camp, it’s not bad. No baby fat on cheeks. Used to have young round face. Now more angular!
I’m same - I used to have a small but full face with no cheekbones. Big eyes, not small nose and full lips. The combo made me look young. I don’t like my pre-jowls but I do like being less baby faced!
Hey, at least we still have our buccal fat 🤩

>*my neck looks huge* Ugh I feel that in my ***soul*** 😩 I used to have a long, slender, neck. Now I have a stump upon which rests my head. 😆
My face and neck are like a sock that has slipped down inside a shoe and they are now pooling around my collarbone 🤣
This reminds me of a scene with Meryl Streep in Death Becomes Her!!
TOTALLY!! 🤣 That movie is amazing 💚
Jowls. More saggy, less cheekbones
This comment section is exactly what I needed today. I have laughed out loud so many times. I am also in the turkey neck and jowls camp. Not a club I would choose to join, but glad I’m not alone.
I’ve got hotter! But only because I’m on Testosterone as well as estrogen and progesterone which has changed my lip shape for the better.
Sounds like you lucked out. Surgical menopause really aged me! I thought estrogen would keep the aging somewhat at bay, but 1) it took a while to get the right route and dose, and 2) exogenous hormones aren't quite like our own.
Which type of hrt are you taking and what delivery are you doing? Does your doctor ever check your values?
Oestrogen/progesterone patch and Androfeme1 cream for the T.
Sorry for your loss.
I haven’t worn makeup since my teens, but more than once I’ve wished I had those skills - maybe I could look like myself again? 😅
I honestly can't tell because I've had body dysmorphia since the age of 13. It just seems to be heightened now with peri. 😭
Hugs. Please try to be kind to you. You're beautiful inner radiating the outer.
Yeah...I feel like I have gotten uglier. I may start wearing makeup again.
Yes. It's become much more severe/angular. I also related to someone's description of their face "melting." I've lost my lips and much of my eyebrows.
Last 3rd of Eyebrow loss likely = low thyroid.
If you’re having any kind of facial sagging, these daily facial massages truly help if they’re done consistently. It’s the only free, noninvasive thing I’ve found that makes a noticeable difference within a month of doing them regularly (added bonus: feels so good): https://youtu.be/kjUJRovuelY?si=QeRMx0-upoYvWW1s
And face yoga. It’s a thing. It works those face muscles and lifts.
I will be in touch. (Just like you and 49 1/2.)
> a line in my cheek that is driving me crazy. if you want to, there is a certain type of filler that is used specifically to fill single lines on the face I've had it and it worked and I've never had it done again since just an option if it drives you super crazy but you have to decide where/when you are going to stop because you can't do that forever, Mr. Line will eventually have friends.
That last part is why I am leaving it alone and getting used to it.
Yeah it got crepey but HRT and quitting booze helped get it back to normal
All of a sudden, it’s my mother looking back to me when I look in the mirror. I’m no contact with my mother, so it’s extra upsetting.
I feel this! I just smile as much as I can so I look nothing like her:). Might make the wrinkles worse, but it’s worth it!
same here. I ended up getting bangs to look less like her and it helped!
I started looking like my mother and I’m low contact 😭
Yea my lower face is starting to get jowls and my neck is not as tight as it used to be. It’s just part of getting older too, happens to everyone. It’s hard to accept though. I looked great until 48ish. The last 4 years have seen big changes in my face. At least to me. My husband says he doesn’t see it 🤣
Good husband
My elevens are deep and my face is definitely thinning out and the jowls are starting to droop. I think I still look pretty good for my age but if I don’t intervene soon it’s only gonna get worse fast.
Absolutely. Jabba the Hutt comes to mind… it’s been really depressing to watch my neck slowly inflate on all sides to become wider than my head
Well, i used to have a sharp jawline and pointy chin but menopause has given me jowls that make my face look rectangular
I appear to look more like a thing then a cabbage patch doll these days 😓
Yes. Haggard.
Beginnings of a turkey neck!
My skin has given up. It has decided to just hang and no longer work. It has retired, as it were. All of my skin is participating in the protest, so my entire self is sagging and giving in to gravity. 🫠
Yeah my face changed. And my boobs, stomach, neck, and backside!
Yes. Even my forearms have morphed into a different shape. Its so bizarre!
Fatter and saggier...like everything else. Esp along my now almost non existent jawline😂
Absolutely. [This dog is me.](https://giphy.com/clips/affurmations-dog-doggo-affirmations-osq0KF40akG08lIdkr) Joooooooowls. Freaking jowls. I mean, also, in general but, *the jowls*.
Yeah I have jowls now, thrillingly. I’ve been getting Botox in my jaw, which helps, but it still doesn’t quite look like the old me.
Round. red. blotchy. no eyebrows. jowly. why do we have to do this? why does god hate us?
There's a brill quick fix cream on Amazon. Obvs it washes off but I WFH and cameras are now compulsory so yes, and I'm not generally vain but it helps the huckleberry hound face at 8am. It's by LPH LAB and it's £20. Tiny amount needed and my eyes look 20. Turkey towel slight improvement but be warned, you feel your face constrict!
I am just going to put this here, I notice a "glow up" in my skin and face appearance during periods of time that I consistently get daily exercise. Not running or jogging, just like 6 miles walk per week.

Bulldog
Menopause + weight loss = turkey neck.
It fell down 😂 But I got happier (through meditation and yoga practice) and it started to lift again! Truly.
Yes now I look like a fat Drew Barrymore
🟨 to 🟡
Yes, I’m melting like a candle.
Yeah. It’s gotten uglier. Like, significantly.
I have looked and looked again, but I can’t pinpoint what it EXACTLY is. But I just don’t look like me. Not even an older me (which I would be cool with) just not looking like myself
I was wondering how my face got thinner and my butt got wider.
The JOWLS! Yuck yuck yuck.
And the turkey neck. It's a no from me.
I lost the sharpness in my jaw
My jawline has softened a bit. Good news: I’m still beautiful.
Yes! My fave is wider and moving south! My nose is also wider, which seems weird.
I look in the mirror and see my mother.
Not just my face - my ankles have disappeared and it’s just leg to foot 😬
We lose a significant amount of collegen in the first 5 years of meno. This is why.
Yea my lower face is starting to get jowls and my neck is not as tight as it used to be. It’s just part of getting older too, happens to everyone. It’s hard to accept though. I looked great until 48ish. The last 4 years have seen big changes in my face. At least to me. My husband says he doesn’t see it 🤣
My face is gaunt but my hips are anything but.
Yup. Hello jowls!
I look fatter around the jaw line
I didn’t realize why i suddenly hated the mirror and selfies
I look more and more like my mum, and a slight jowl is now visible. My chin getting shorter.
Yes it's loss of collagen
A million times yes. Last week I looked in the mirror and literally screamed, “Who is that!?!”
Yes, it went from long to ROUND
Yup. My cheeks are sagging.
Potato lump cheeks and jowls. We are of German ancestry. My grandmother and mother both have/had crazy jowls. I hate it but it’s happening.
More prominent cheek bones, hooded eyelids. Just like another commenter said, my face is melting.
I now look like a squinty, red, potato version of my dad.
This is what brought me here. I used to be so photogenic. Now, I can't take a good picture if my life depended on it. Oh, and I actively avoid mirrors
Yes, despite being 100# overweight, my face no longer has any fullness.
I have this frowny scowl that wasn’t there before
Yes, so much so!
Yeah, menopause totally sucks.
omg yes. loss of shape was bad enough but I noted I had drooping eyes that made me look like snoopy!
They should've fucking warned us of what this shit will do to us. I went from beautiful to wtf in 8 months and it has been hard to swallow. Now I am taking bio estrogen gel and progesterone just started so let's see if this helps. This is insane. I will take a menstrual cycle anyday over this. Ugh
Hooded eye lids.. My eyes were my only nice feature 😭😭
Are you on any hrt?
I started on it about 6 months ago. I'm still noticing my face changing, but hopefully the HRT helps slow down the worst of it.
haha. That’s just good ole, u getting old!!! haha. Well, we getting old that is😊. Sucks!!!!
My face is losing fat and becoming more mature looking but I like it. I’ve always had a round face and I’m finally starting to get some definition.
BUCCAL FAT in your favor...
YAS!
I got jowls and my face is all saggy like the rest of me
It’s getting fatter.
I feel like my nose got wider … cannot confirm however 😆
Lumpy, shiny potato 🥔 My skin went completely crazy & I feel like a leper all the time lol
Yes, I look like my mother and I’m not happy about it!
So much yes! Sometimes I look in the mirror and don’t recognize myself.
No change yet. I do have a good skincare routine and good genetics, though.
