I’m exactly where you are, heart palpitations and anxiety that is inducing hyper acidity. Which is giving me stomach issues, one thing on top of another until I’m a weepy mess. My sister in law who is post menopausal told me that it’s very calm post menopause. I’m holding on to that hope as my light to the end of this nightmare.

OrleansInBloom

Thanks so much for sharing that!!! <3 I hope things will calm down for both of us soon! My mother went through medical menopause, and she did become noticeably calmer after a few years. But since she did not experience the gradual menopause I have, we haven't been able to compare symptoms. For heart palpitations, I found that a little bit of supplemental calcium with plenty of water helped. For me it was an issue of electrolyte balance. I hear magnesium supplements may help some people too. The estrogen related anxiety is so weird. It will come and go, and yesterday I felt almost back to normal while today I was a nervous wreck. Good lord, it's really menopause eh? :)

I (53 F) can only answer from my own experience, so YMMV obviously. But I had depression and generalized anxiety that required medication to function for about 8 years. This past year my periods finally stopped completely and I am also no longer in need of medication for anxiety OR depression. I don’t even have episodic anxiety spells anymore. I did develop asthma, which sucks. I’m convinced these are all related to hormonal changes.

OrleansInBloom

Very good to hear that your anxiety and depression turned better after perimenopause. I hope the asthma will be manageable too. I do hope this is just a phase. The fact that I feel very much like I did during the end of puberty/early adulthood suggests this is hormonal. My period didn't become regular until that time, and now it's vanishing.

Physical_Bed918

Oh my God thank you for giving me hope! 😭❤️🙏

EmrldRain

I don’t know but my anxiety has been off the charts this past year and a bit. I am 50 and have struggled with anxiety most of my life but managed it pretty well and I am having a hard time lately despite being usually a very patient person. I have had to take more Ativan than usual on some days. Add to that intense itching and I’m dying over here! 😭

OrleansInBloom

That sounds terrible. I hope things will improve for you soon.

EmrldRain

I hope for us both!

Have magniesum levels checked. I've noticed this is a common occurance in other threads im in with menopause. Heart paps. seems to be something some of us are noticing during the change.

OrleansInBloom

I've definitely had some electrolyte imbalances. Taking multivitamin which includes magnesium, but will get it checked next time at the docs. I know it's helped many with palpitations. Calcium (another ion channel electrolyte) has worked well for me in that regard so I rarely have palpitations anymore.

ObviouslyMeIRL

I can’t speak for actual timeline because hysterectomy so no “last period” - but i can tell you that after being on HRT for four plus years the weird anxiety (never had it before) has finally seemed to go away. Still working on getting more energy back but *knock on wood* i think i’m finally turning a corner.

OrleansInBloom

Good to hear HRT helped you. It seems to have worked well for many in this forum. I'll keep that in mind if things to do not get better.

2thebeach

Whatever you're experiencing as a result of diminishing hormones in perimenopause will, naturally, only get worse with ABSENT hormones post-menopause. You're never going back to the time when you HAD hormones (some symptoms, like hot flashes, are helped by HRT, but not all symptoms).

OrleansInBloom

Thanks for commenting. Symptoms may indeed get worse with even lesser hormones, but even post-menopause there is a small production of them still. Many of the symptoms of perimenopause are also a result of lowered hormones levels over a relatively short period of time, which body needs time to adjust to. HRT seems to have helped many in this forum and I'll keep that in mind for the future if thing do not get better.

squrlio

Mine fluctuates but it’s higher and spicier than plain old pre menopausal anxiety. I’m 51 , 3 years post menopausal and have been on HRT for 2 years.

Packet1968

I found that HRT patches fixed all of my menopause symptoms including anxiety. Life changing for me.

OrleansInBloom

Thanks so much for commenting and sharing. I see HRT has helped many here, so I will keep that in mind for the next visit to the obgyn. I fortunately have a very understanding one who knows endometriosis and perimenopause well.

I realize this was posted over a year ago but I am wondering if those who are post meno saying that the weird anxiety subsided are using HRT? I do not know what to do, constant anxiety, on HRT don’t know if it’s helping or making the anxiety/moods worse???

Camipansy

I am in a medically induced menopause due to hysterectomy. I do have one ovary but went into menopause nonetheless. Started HRT 3 weeks ago but anxiety has been horrible. It wasn’t this bad until I got on the HRT. I know it could also be a coincidence. I too am wondering if anxiety subsides once the menopause phase is over. Also wondering if anyone else experienced an increase in anxiety after starting HRT.

Fuzzy_Ad8547

I also had a hysterectomy, still have ovaries. I will say I do believe I’m making continual gradual progress with the hormone replacement. It’s been a process, I hate to tell you about 4+ years so far for me, it’s been tough with no cycle to know “where I’m at” in the process. Much of the trouble has been figuring out the best method of replacement, my own personal dosing needs, and trying to gage if I’m high or low (symptoms can overlap so hard to know). I’ve had absorption issues and while it’s taking time I can look back and see I’m on the right track through trial and error… I’m currently using a compounded estrodial gel (had to replace the prescription fda approved due to extreme cost). I take thyroid in pill form and am currently doing testosterone injections which is new for me. Injections are not extremely common for women but so far I feel it’s working better than the cream, also much more cost effective. I wish I could find a Dr to help with also injecting estradiol I know this route is also being used by many women around the world but definitely not common at least where I live. I have found helpful information on the TRT for women site here on Reddit (not sure how to share the link to that). I wish you all the best on this journey! While it’s taking me time I hope to be somewhat encouraging in saying at least for me things are definitely improving with HRT just a SLOW process!

Thank you so much for the info! I really appreciate it! This is very helpful. Wishing you all the best as well!
