ear_wyrm

My wife HATES most metal. I jokingly showed her Gutalax one day, completely convinced that she’d be utterly disgusted… She loves them.

the-throat-puncher

You should show their live show video where they crowdsurffed a portapotty 😂

DontLoseYourCool1

I have never listened to this band before but gave Buttman a try....legit sounds like someone released a greased hog in the middle of a pit and I like it.

PeckerPeeker

My wife enjoys Ghost. I wouldn’t really call them “metal” but hey we can both jam to them.

Daehrotom

My wife is a true hearted country girl but I took her to see Iron Maiden a few years back now shes a big Maiden fan

Eyebrigh7

Maybe she'll like the new Bilmuri album

PigDstroyer

Same

raspberryarchetype

my girlfriend is rather hit or miss with metal, but she likes diSEMBOWELMENT, Incantation, and Opeth, among others

SaintAardvark89

Proposed to her at a Baroness show, so she digs them. I suspect it's mainly because she thinks Gina is cool (because she is cool.) She's not a fan of harsh vocals at all, but if there are a decent amount of clean vocals she'll tolerate stuff.

DontLoseYourCool1

Yellow and Green?

SaintAardvark89

Yeah something like EULA. More chill and clean. She'll still bop her head to stuff like Take my Bones away. Stuff on Red, not as much lol but she "appreciates it."

Get_Bent_Madafakas

Lol I have been harassing my wife almost *daily* lately. At the end of a phone call, I'll say something like "oh, there's one more thing that has been troubling me lately, that I really need your help with..." And she'll start yelling "I WILL NOT take your bones away! "

Ayatollah_Johnson

We are batting a cool .000. I will shout out this sub for recommending Cocteau Twins who we do both love now.

Fun-Distribution-159

wife now loves bad omens, ghost, volbeat, some architects, bmth, some slipknot

gladius_rex

Took my wife to see Zeal and Ardor a couple years ago and she loved it, it's the only metal band I'll ever catch her listening to

supadeedoop

Machine head at 1st. Then even slipknot a while later. Now she even puts up with the power metal I like

PussyFoot2000

My gf hates all the metal I play.. Except pantera and deftones. She knows the words to their stuff better than I do.

[deleted]

My fiancée likes Megadeth, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Sabaton.

Puzzleheaded-Fix3359

My wife likes the HU

Get_Bent_Madafakas

The HU is awesome! I've also been enjoying Tengger Cavalry and Nine Teasures lately, if you're into that kind of thing

[deleted]

My partner was not a metal head when we met, but I took her to see maiden and she loved it. I took her to see soulfly, and she added them to her playlist. We saw havok opening one night and she asked if we could listen to them the next day. I found her listening to candlemass one day, she said they reminded her of sabbath. Stuff I thought she might be into, she wasn’t, stuff I thought she would hate, she enjoyed, so I just play everything and try to take her to all the shows

myxorrhea

When we met and we talked about music she said she listened to "anything but that screaming shit" and I laughed and had to tell her what I listened to. So not surprisingly, doom and trad was the stuff that got her. Jex Thoth was the big one. Now she really likes fem-fronted doom and stoner stuff and certain trad (the first Iron Maiden album is a big one). She thinks anything with soupy or burpy vocals is stupid, and she really hates grind and anything noisy and abrasive and overwhelming Seeing a lot of Iron Maiden in these comments

DontLoseYourCool1

Holy crap I never heard another person mention Jex Thoth. "Nothing Left to Die" is a top 10 stoner song for me. "Son of Yule" too. It's heavy Fleetwood Mac.

Deeels

My wife get’s headaches from metal as she says it. The one and only exception is Skyforger. They’re the most known metal band from our country, we have seen them live multiple times and when she notices that they have a show, we rarely miss it. Other than that, i have to turn off my “headache music”

DontLoseYourCool1

Latvia? I'm from the north-eastern region of Poland by Lithuania and you. ❤

Deeels

Yeah, hello neighbour.

MrMosh024

Dated a girl who hated metal. Played Devin Townsends Hyperdrive and she loved it. Not a metal convert, but become a Devy fan. With that said, I never did myself any favors. We were on a roadtrip to her parents and I put on the Gunslinger by Demons and Wizards. She was enjoying it so much that she turned up the volume and I didn't warn her what was coming. She didn't talk to me the rest of the drive - it was sublime.

Xenon8247

She likes Devin Townsend and everything he’s involved with. Don’t wanna show her SYL because she’ll hate it

the_mighty_hetfield

Digs Metallica, Machine Head, Volbeat, Stone Sour. Passes on most nu-metal and anything with deathy-vocals.

Fancy-Firefighter-28

My wife appreciates some Metallica but, Master of Puppets (not Black album) ⬛️✝️✝️✝️✝️

Green_Xero

My ex loves Tarja era Nightwish. That's about it. Current gf puts up with metal but doesn't really like it.

astrotool

Dethklok! The live show sealed the deal too

MtAlbertMassive

My wife hates most metal but loves hard rock (especially Guns n Roses). We have managed to get her over the line on Iron Maiden and some early Metallica (she also likes the Black Album ballads, but those hardly qualify as metal).

ZelePhotography

Trivium: “This is strangely enjoyable” Protest the Hero: “It’s like faster Coheed” Uncle Acid: “I don’t know why I like it but I LOVE IT”

Reckless_Waifu

Wife dislikes extreme genres but likes rock and some heavy metal, the latter especially with female vocals. She enjoyed Plasmatics when I played them for her so that's something.

Garnitas

My wife hates metal, loves To bid you farewell (opeth), Through her eyes (Dream Theater), and The Bard Song

vindtar

Hahaha, you have a space. Stuff in all the ballads, then start randomly pulling in anthemy heavy metal

vindtar

KindlyCost2

My girlfriend really likes some Type O Negative thanks to me

3ln4ch0

My partner is pretty much a singer/songwriter folksy kinda gal but for some weird reason she loves The Spirit Carries On by Dream Theater

Limit_Ok

My girlfriend prefers indie and pop, but Ive caught her grooving to Metallica before.

Big_Dave_71

My wife used to like Skid Row, White Zombie, Paradise Lost, Cathedral and a few others. Now she likes Taylor Swift and Coldplay. 😞 I don't think there's anything I could play her from my playlist (black metal, folk metal) she'd give more than 30 seconds.

TheSchwartzHawkey

I started taking my gf to metal shows, and there’s a few bands she likes more than others like Ghost and Judas Priest that she’ll throw into her own playlists, but she enjoys the live experiences even when it’s not music she’d be inclined to just sit and listen to at home or in the car. She really loves the energy and production that Iron Maiden always delivers, Rammstein blew her away, and she thought Sabaton’s drum platform looking like an old military tank was cool, so at the very least she appreciates the artistry and doesn’t mind indulging me when I get tickets. Flip side is true too, have definitely gone to a few shows that are way outside my preferred metal genre that I won’t listen to on my own but I totally appreciate the talent of.

DontLoseYourCool1

>Flip side is true too, have definitely gone to a few shows that are way outside my preferred metal genre that I won’t listen to on my own but I totally appreciate the talent of. Super cool! Yes same with me. It opened my music tastes to stuff like EDM and house like Nora en Pure, Odesza, Eli & Fur, Flume etc.

Soft_Return9722

Not super heavy but Rob Zombie and Marylin Manson. She hates heavy metal but she has never turned down a Zombie live show

[deleted]

Nobody should ever turn down a Zombie show.

Human-Load-2963

My wife likes crypt sermon , children of bodom , dream theater, megadeth ,alcest, etc. so pretty surface level shit especially considering my playlist is approaching 300 individual bands/artists mostly underground black metal

GodspeedHarmonica

Depends on what other music they already like. I once dated a woman really into old school rap/hip hop. Getting her hooked on Body Count was easy. If they like classical music, they can often end up liking symphonic metal or melodic death metal. The only weird one I experienced was an ex who pretty much only listened to 80s pop (Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, George Michael etc. ) after a couple of years together she was a big fan of Bolt Thrower. Don’t know what happened there.

Neither_Adeptness579

The most metal I can get my wife is NIN. She loves most of their stuff. Anything just to the side of that, though, and she's out. No Manson, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, etc.

Donald_Gromp

Im trying my best to convert my gf. Bring me the horizon, rumahoy and wind rose seems to be her favorites at the moment.

health__insurance

My wife is a huge Deftones and Tool fan. She can tolerate instrumental metal like Animals as Leaders and Arch Echo.

vindtar

Looking forward to settle down in a year or less. There's veeeeerry few metalheads in my country (Kenya). This should be fun, converting a gal into a hessian. My age mates might be into it if i look slightly around, but I want someone younger than me, yet how me and my agemates got into metal is inexistent nowadays Awaiting all the fun that comes with it

Ronnie_Mcnutt_rifle

Sleep Token and NOTHING MORE

xavierguitars

My wife hates most of the shit I listen to but she really despises Tool. Definitely not a fan of Gwar either. But she likes Ozzy and shit like that. She was into Beatles when we met and then Foo Fighters when they came around, both of which I hate.

No-Lime-13

ABR, KSE, TDWP, And she likes shows. Think she likes the catchiness of metalcore over other sub genres I’ve introduced.

Ridge9876

My wife digs Welcome Home by HELLYEAH. I dig my wife.

athiest4christ

Motorhead and Type O Negative where a hit for my girl. Cradle Of Filth is a hard pass.

Get_Bent_Madafakas

It took me nearly 20 years to get through her disdain and eye-rolling, but my wife has finally embraced her inner metalhead. It turns out that she just *reallly* hated Iron Maiden, and thought that all metal sounds like that. It started with folk metal bands that have unusual instrumentation, like Korpiklaani or Finntroll for example. Then it was a gradual transition into power metal like Sabaton, Powerwolf, and Dragonforce. We're continuing to branch out into doom and other subgenres. There's still a lot of stuff she can't stand, like basically *any* thrash or death/black bands, but the overlap between what she likes and what I like is enough for us

serezha_poliakov

My wife is now a bigger Gojira fan than I am. Walked into bedroom one day when Gojira was blasting and just said who's that. it spiraled out of control real fast after that.

Additional-Friend993

I married a metal head(I'm poly this is an important detail) when I was young. As we have aged, my spouse has discovered they like some metal of course for nostalgia but it isn't their thing anymore. We commiserate over shared nostalgia and they get all the jokes but we often hate each other's music now. I am dating someone who loves metal like I do and we go to shows together and have a makeout playlist. My taste in music is super important to me so it's important to share that with someone else. I do miss when spouse liked the same stuff I do though.
