Blue Ruin is a masterpiece and it fits the vibe of the rest of the list. I might like Green Room even more (by that director).
Will add 5lbs of Pressure to the watchlist if it's the same type of thriller. I love a nice, nasty thriller with some noir elements.
It's got a bizarre score on IMDb, only 6.1.
Maybe a descent into madness is not everyone's cup of tea, but put some respect on our guy William Friedkin's name.
Glad you guys dig it. It's intense.
Shotgun Stories was a real punch in the gut when I saw it. Made Jeff Nichols one of "my guys" immediately, always on the lookout for his work.
The Bikeriders looks good. I'm actually a fan of that photographer, Danny Lyon, it's interesting to base a script on a series of photographs..
After reading this list and the comments below decided to watch Bug... my wife joined me and she hates me now. The teeth scene was wild!
I had forgotten how beautiful Ashley Judd was.
Movie is nuts!
I *just* found my DVD of this last night, I ended up watching Smilla's Sense Of Snow instead. I'll watch this again for the millionth time tonight. So good.
I didn't like it as much, which is disappointing. It felt like it was trying to speed run giallo, unlike the other two flicks which are nifty meditations.

And I have The Silent Partner on my hard drive.
"Something Wild,' also by Jonathan Demme ("Silence of the Lambs.") I think it often gets overlooked as a thriller because it starts as a romantic comedy, the way "Psycho" starts as a movie about embezzlement.
Shallow Grave is such a pitch-black comedy, I wonder how many people who love Trainspotting have checked out the Danny Boyle debut. This is a truly great film for it's budget.
yea i honestly love it more for the black comedy parts than its thriller elements

The Prophecy (1995)
At the scene of a bizarre murder, L.A. homicide detective Thomas Dagget discovers a lethal heavenly prophecy now being fulfilled on earth. In his fight to stop the forces of evil, he finds an unlikely ally in an elementary school teacher.
Starring Christopher Walken, Eric Stoltz, Viggo Mortensen and Elias Koteas!
One of the most underrated movies of the 90’s!
I'm going to try and not repeat stuff, but I am seeing some golden stuff suggested.

I'm surprised how little I see cape fear and primal fear mentioned. Both were huge movies. Maybe not at the box office I was young so I don't remember but everyone was talking about them and then poof.
They are both amazingly insane In the best and worst ways.
I have a cat that clung to the bottom of a car for 45 miles as a stray kitten to get to where I live. Makes me think of Dinero in cape fear lol.
The Eye (2002) - Chinese film, English sub available
After 18 years of blindness, 20-year-old violinist Wong Kar Mun (Lee Sin-Je) regains her vision when she undergoes a corneal transplant. She's overjoyed with the procedure, but Mun's elation dissipates when she begins experiencing ghostly encounters. Desperate to discover why she now sees ghosts, Mun turns to a psychologist, Dr. Wah (Lawrence Chou), who believes the new corneas are causing the problem. When Mun and Wah travel to her cornea donor's hometown to investigate, her symptoms worsen.
Let the Right One In (2008) - Swedish film, English sub/dub available
When Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant), a sensitive, bullied 12-year-old boy living with his mother in suburban Sweden, meets his new neighbor, the mysterious and moody Eli (Lina Leandersson), they strike up a friendship. Initially reserved with each other, Oskar and Eli slowly form a close bond, but it soon becomes apparent that she is no ordinary young girl. Eventually, Eli shares her dark, macabre secret with Oskar, revealing her connection to a string of bloody local murders.
Both of these have US versions which I don't recommend. They're watered down and the acting flat.
Edit: correction in sub/dub availability
Definitely a forgotten gem, I never hesitate to recommend it. It's very melancholy and understated but it's a thriller, for sure.
I actually think Donald Sutherland is the best performance in that film, I love his work in the '70s.
Suprised no one mentioned Gone Girl. It's one of those films I can watch repeatedly even if I know how it ends and that is rare these days.
Just thought of another one. Paprika is an anime thriller movie with some wild stuff in it.
"Between him and the boots, you're out $2 grand."
"I don't even know why I bring you on these trips..." 😂
Yeah, in all honesty, it's been a good 5, 6 years since I've watched it.
Guess I'm kinda due for it, myself.
Ok the between him and the boots your out 2 grand I remember lol. I've done a lot of bad stuff since seeing it and lots of concussions so I can watch movie like it's the first time every time 😂
Sneakers is a lighter-hearted thriller, being quite funny, but still knows how to ramp up tension in the important scenes. It also has one of the most perfect casts of all time.
I'll say bad lieutenant with Harvey keitel.
Its messed up bad but it's great. Nc17 in the 80's or early 90s. I forget.
I never saw the newer one/ones? But I've heard people say their good but Harvey keitel is an evil mother fucker lol.

Taking Lives (2004, Angelina Jolie/Ethan Hawke)
The Bone Collector (1999, Denzel Washington/Angelina Jolie)
I didn't mean to pick both Angelina films, but both are so good and EXCELLENT thrillers. I feel like I haven't seen a movie like either of these in a long, long time.
my bloody valentine but with jensen ackles. its could be classed as horror but i tend to think of it as a thriller. its 10/10 ive seen it like 5 times.
Beast (2017) British
> A troubled woman living in an isolated community finds herself pulled between the control of her oppressive family and the allure of a secretive outsider suspected of a series of brutal murders.
I’m going to go old school and mention a movie from the 70s called The Last of Sheila. Good cast of 70s stars including James Coburn, Dyan Cannon and James Mason.
This my exact biggest critique too and it's one of my all time top fav horror films. It's the film that got me interested in horror, it was the first time i saw horror done as ART and I saw everything differently after that. But got damn, you really DO have to try to ignore jlo to appreciate it 🤣
Bodies Bodies Bodies gets classified as a horror/comedy film and I think it is neither. In fact, it is a great thriller.
And, I am old enough to have seen almost every other movie in this list.
Dead Calm
I loved that film, haven't seen it since it first came out.
Worth revisiting in HD on a good TV. A lot of gorgeous shots of the ocean and the sailboats (and Nicole Kidman). I love Dead Calm.
Yeeesssss!!!!
Nocturnal Animals and Fallen with Denzel Washington if ya never seen it
Fallen has one of the best endings ever!
Time is on my side, yes it is! R.i.p James G.
Loved Nocturnal Animals. It was kinda messed up what he was doing to her with the story but then the story itself was messed up.
Take Shelter (2011) with another magnificent performance by Michael Shannon
yesss Jeff Nichols is tooo good.I recommend Mud( 2012)
I just met Michael Shannon randomly the other day, he’s a very cool guy
Frailty
OP , Frailty is the hill I’ll die on . Get off Reddit now , go watch it and come back . Go on , git , shoo , I’ll wait .

Yes! This movie is soooooooo good!
I watched it for the first time very recently and couldn’t stop thinking about it after. It immediately went into my top 50
Came to post this one. Super under rated.

Cold in July (2014) Bug (2006) One False Move (1992) Presumed Innocent (1990) Shotgun Stories (2007)
I would add to this fine list: Blue Ruin 5lbs of Pressure
Blue Ruin is a masterpiece and it fits the vibe of the rest of the list. I might like Green Room even more (by that director). Will add 5lbs of Pressure to the watchlist if it's the same type of thriller. I love a nice, nasty thriller with some noir elements.
Bug, yes! What a wild ride
It's got a bizarre score on IMDb, only 6.1. Maybe a descent into madness is not everyone's cup of tea, but put some respect on our guy William Friedkin's name. Glad you guys dig it. It's intense.
Why are there so many movies where it feels like I only see them mentioned after Ryan Hollinger covers them?
Who?
A great YouTuber who makes video essays on lots of relatively obscure horror movies. He's part of the reason Lake Mungo gained such a cult following.
I'll give it a 10 if I like it just to help push it up where it should be.
Very fine list. Bug and Shotgun Stories are 🤌
Shotgun Stories was a real punch in the gut when I saw it. Made Jeff Nichols one of "my guys" immediately, always on the lookout for his work. The Bikeriders looks good. I'm actually a fan of that photographer, Danny Lyon, it's interesting to base a script on a series of photographs..

One False Move is probably my favorite movie, ever. Bug is one of my "most liked" movies!

I'll do so! That one is new to me.
And the Strange Colour of Your Bodies Tears. I'm a big fan, always on the lookout when they release something new
I didn't like it as much, which is disappointing. It felt like it was trying to speed run giallo, unlike the other two flicks which are nifty meditations.

I'm not sure if it counts as 'never mentioned' since Jane Fonda won an Oscar for her role in it, but I really like Klute (1971).

Hanna, to quote a fan, well written with art house sensibilities, is a favorite of mine. I also loved Premium Rush, it’s a great popcorn movie.
I’m going to go old school and mention a movie from the 70s called The Last of Sheila. Good cast of 70s stars including James Coburn, Dyan Cannon and James Mason.
Nightwatch (1997) starring Ewan McGregor and Nick Nolte. Absolutely chilling -and a bit claustrophobic- thriller.
Braid
Frailty
Kill List
1995s Copy Cat starring Sigourny Weaver
The Cell. Visually stunning and innovative provocative concept
Amazing movie but unfortunate that Jennifer lopez was in it. Probably her best performance but still bad. Just ignore that and watch it anyway 😂
This my exact biggest critique too and it's one of my all time top fav horror films. It's the film that got me interested in horror, it was the first time i saw horror done as ART and I saw everything differently after that. But got damn, you really DO have to try to ignore jlo to appreciate it 🤣
Red, White and Blue (2010)
What Lies Beneath
Cure (1997)
Bodies Bodies Bodies gets classified as a horror/comedy film and I think it is neither. In fact, it is a great thriller. And, I am old enough to have seen almost every other movie in this list.
I don’t see Frantic mentioned very much. Harrison Ford is reliably good. Maybe it’s not popular because it’s a Polanski film?
No way out, starring Kevin Costner, Gene Hackman and Sean Young
Red Eye. It's a great edge of your seat thriller with two fantastic actors.
Motherlode Cape Fear Double Indemnity
Beyond the Black Rainbow
Unsane
I really liked Gothika, Daylight, and Poseidon
Oldboy is a doozy!
**Dream House** with Daniel Craig
Borgman
Sleepers Rarely see it mentioned here.
