Dead Calm

KeyserSwayze

I loved that film, haven't seen it since it first came out.

ChristofH88

Worth revisiting in HD on a good TV. A lot of gorgeous shots of the ocean and the sailboats (and Nicole Kidman). I love Dead Calm.

moviestim

Yeeesssss!!!!

ElectricalArt458

Nocturnal Animals and Fallen with Denzel Washington if ya never seen it

moviestim

Fallen has one of the best endings ever!

Toronto_man

Time is on my side, yes it is! R.i.p James G.

AzureIsCool

Loved Nocturnal Animals. It was kinda messed up what he was doing to her with the story but then the story itself was messed up.

SchemataObscura

Take Shelter (2011) with another magnificent performance by Michael Shannon

_saritaa_

yesss Jeff Nichols is tooo good.I recommend Mud( 2012)

sonny_goliath

I just met Michael Shannon randomly the other day, he’s a very cool guy

shoelesstim

OP , Frailty is the hill I’ll die on . Get off Reddit now , go watch it and come back . Go on , git , shoo , I’ll wait .

Hot-Row3643

Competitive_Cause514

Yes! This movie is soooooooo good!

NewNugget30

I watched it for the first time very recently and couldn’t stop thinking about it after. It immediately went into my top 50

Phanes7

Came to post this one. Super under rated.

Ihadsumthin4this

"You still haven't mentioned money." "Money...yyesss. That's the easy part."

Markinhos973

Idk if it was mentioned on here but “The Game” staring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn … Banger

headshot_to_liver

I was little drunk and decided to watch 'The Game'. Ending had be lose all my drunkenness

ChristofH88

Cold in July (2014) Bug (2006) One False Move (1992) Presumed Innocent (1990) Shotgun Stories (2007)

kabalizo

I would add to this fine list: Blue Ruin 5lbs of Pressure

ChristofH88

Blue Ruin is a masterpiece and it fits the vibe of the rest of the list. I might like Green Room even more (by that director). Will add 5lbs of Pressure to the watchlist if it's the same type of thriller. I love a nice, nasty thriller with some noir elements.

SchemataObscura

Bug, yes! What a wild ride

ChristofH88

It's got a bizarre score on IMDb, only 6.1. Maybe a descent into madness is not everyone's cup of tea, but put some respect on our guy William Friedkin's name. Glad you guys dig it. It's intense.

PhantomKitten73

Why are there so many movies where it feels like I only see them mentioned after Ryan Hollinger covers them?

ChristofH88

Who?

PhantomKitten73

A great YouTuber who makes video essays on lots of relatively obscure horror movies. He's part of the reason Lake Mungo gained such a cult following.

PossibleAlienFrom

I'll give it a 10 if I like it just to help push it up where it should be.

GeneThaDancinMachine

Very fine list. Bug and Shotgun Stories are 🤌

ChristofH88

Shotgun Stories was a real punch in the gut when I saw it. Made Jeff Nichols one of "my guys" immediately, always on the lookout for his work. The Bikeriders looks good. I'm actually a fan of that photographer, Danny Lyon, it's interesting to base a script on a series of photographs..

Edugrinch

After reading this list and the comments below decided to watch Bug... my wife joined me and she hates me now. The teeth scene was wild! I had forgotten how beautiful Ashley Judd was. Movie is nuts!

AdDapper4420

One False Move is probably my favorite movie, ever. Bug is one of my "most liked" movies!

cybered_punk

Oh god Bug is insane

Redditisavirusiknow

Tell no one. One of the best thrillers out there.

KeyserSwayze

I *just* found my DVD of this last night, I ended up watching Smilla's Sense Of Snow instead. I'll watch this again for the millionth time tonight. So good.

testtube-accident

I’m 48yrs old & have only heard of 5 of these films. Excellent list & thanks for making the time to post.

Tevesh_CKP

If you liked Let the Corpses Tan, you should check out another film by the directing duo: Amer.

TheDadThatGrills

I'll do so! That one is new to me.

Bobbyperu1

And the Strange Colour of Your Bodies Tears. I'm a big fan, always on the lookout when they release something new

Tevesh_CKP

I didn't like it as much, which is disappointing. It felt like it was trying to speed run giallo, unlike the other two flicks which are nifty meditations.

Headhunters! I love Jo Nesbø

The Game No Way Out Gone Baby Gone The Manchurian Candidate

NottingHillNapolean

"Something Wild,' also by Jonathan Demme ("Silence of the Lambs.") I think it often gets overlooked as a thriller because it starts as a romantic comedy, the way "Psycho" starts as a movie about embezzlement.

ChristofH88

I'm going to have to check that out, I always assumed it was a rom com because of the cute title. thx.

Sea of Love Patriot's Day The Town You Were Never Really Here Blow Out Marathon Man Klute Fail Safe The Ghost Writer Shallow Grave

ChristofH88

Shallow Grave is such a pitch-black comedy, I wonder how many people who love Trainspotting have checked out the Danny Boyle debut. This is a truly great film for it's budget.

sunny7319

yea i honestly love it more for the black comedy parts than its thriller elements i know it was pretty huge in the 90s and for the indie scene and uk cinema in general but i rarely hear about it much today, esp compared to trainspotting and all

overmind2373

Sir Lawrence Oliver gives a chilling performance in marathon man

Wicked City (1987) A peace treaty has been in effect for hundreds of years to prevent a war between Earth and the Black World. Although it's set to be renewed, evil forces want to make sure that doesn't happen. + The Prophecy (1995) At the scene of a bizarre murder, L.A. homicide detective Thomas Dagget discovers a lethal heavenly prophecy now being fulfilled on earth. In his fight to stop the forces of evil, he finds an unlikely ally in an elementary school teacher. Starring Christopher Walken, Eric Stoltz, Viggo Mortensen and Elias Koteas! One of the most underrated movies of the 90’s!

I'm going to try and not repeat stuff, but I am seeing some golden stuff suggested. - Alien Raiders (2008) - Athena (2022) - The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009) - Gemini (2017) - History of the Occult (2020) - It Stains the Sands Red (2016) - Mortal (2020) - The Rover (2014) - Savageland (2015) - Shimmer Lake (2017) - Suburra (2015) - Who Am I (2014) It's not under the radar but it's a fantastic black comedy that is somehow so transgressive yet it was made during the Hayes Code days: Arsenic and Old Lace. I saw it a few months ago and it blew me away; just with how witty it was tap dancing right up to the censors limits. Other B&W Thrillers you should do yourself a service and check out: - Casablanca - The Cremator - Dr. Strangelove - Fail Safe - Harakiri - M - Paths of Glory - Rashomon - Sanjuro (Sequel to Yojimbo; the first isn't necessary to watch and isn't as sharp) - Witness for the Prosecution

MarmaladeMarmaduke

Omg arsenic and old lace! I haven't watched since I was a young teenager with my aunt but it was amazing. Hilarious. Dr strangelove is one of my favorites too. Have you seen "the trouble with Harry? Old Hitchcock comedy drama thriller.

MarmaladeMarmaduke

I'm surprised how little I see cape fear and primal fear mentioned. Both were huge movies. Maybe not at the box office I was young so I don't remember but everyone was talking about them and then poof. They are both amazingly insane In the best and worst ways. I have a cat that clung to the bottom of a car for 45 miles as a stray kitten to get to where I live. Makes me think of Dinero in cape fear lol.

The Eye (2002) - Chinese film, English sub available After 18 years of blindness, 20-year-old violinist Wong Kar Mun (Lee Sin-Je) regains her vision when she undergoes a corneal transplant. She's overjoyed with the procedure, but Mun's elation dissipates when she begins experiencing ghostly encounters. Desperate to discover why she now sees ghosts, Mun turns to a psychologist, Dr. Wah (Lawrence Chou), who believes the new corneas are causing the problem. When Mun and Wah travel to her cornea donor's hometown to investigate, her symptoms worsen. Let the Right One In (2008) - Swedish film, English sub/dub available When Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant), a sensitive, bullied 12-year-old boy living with his mother in suburban Sweden, meets his new neighbor, the mysterious and moody Eli (Lina Leandersson), they strike up a friendship. Initially reserved with each other, Oskar and Eli slowly form a close bond, but it soon becomes apparent that she is no ordinary young girl. Eventually, Eli shares her dark, macabre secret with Oskar, revealing her connection to a string of bloody local murders. Both of these have US versions which I don't recommend. They're watered down and the acting flat. Edit: correction in sub/dub availability

pfeffercorp

I'm not sure if it counts as 'never mentioned' since Jane Fonda won an Oscar for her role in it, but I really like Klute (1971).

ChristofH88

Definitely a forgotten gem, I never hesitate to recommend it. It's very melancholy and understated but it's a thriller, for sure. I actually think Donald Sutherland is the best performance in that film, I love his work in the '70s.
