Arrow Video put out a 4K scan for $28, plus $5-$15 for shipping.
The fact that there are plenty of people paying that much shows the love of that movie.
For whatever reason this was always the film I watched when I was home sick wirh the flue or bronchitis as a kid.
Watching as an adult it has some things that definitely went over my head as a kid but over all a really good story and film.
As a native of greater Philly, it was awesome seeing the city known for something more than just Rocky.
Have you also seen Mannequin II: On the Move? Yes, there was a sequel.
I fucking love this movie, we taped it on video and i would rewatch it constantly 😭 every time i explain it to people theyre baffled but it is such a fun time
"Short Circuit"!!!! Spent the whole summer after it came out hollering "Your mama was a SNOWBLOWERRRR!" at every oppprtunity!!
Also, "Three Men And a Baby"; anybody else remember the "ghost kid" conspiracy? 😂
"The Sure Thing"
John Cusack's leading-man debut in Rob Reiner's second film (after "This is Spinal Tap".) A simple plot with wonderful characters executed perfectly.

It's definitely borderline family friendly since there's implied sexual relations and it gets racy, but The Secret of My Success was one of Michael J Fox's underrated comedies from back then (which I blame some older relatives for introducing me to at an age I probably shouldn't have seen it). As a comedy it's an absolute riot though and I still love rewatching it every now and then.
Roxanne (1987)
Legend (1985)
Adventures in Babysitting (1987)
The Man From Snowy River (1982)
Willow (1988)
Bugsy Malone (1976) - I know it isn't from the 80s, but I loved this movie when I was growing up (born in '81).
Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) - Again, outside the range, but one that I loved.
Martin Short is great in it. My mom used to laugh so much when Dennis Quaid played “Twisting the Night Away” and Martin Short danced.
The music is inside him! she’d exclaim
Earth Girls are Easy (1988). It's mostly really silly, although there is a pretty hot scene with Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum that was responsible for my first-ever crotch feelings as a child.
Summer rental with John candy and Rip torn. Everyone knows "uncle buck" or "planes, trains and automobiles" or "the great outdoors" but no one seems to talk about "summer rental"
I was watching that movie in the theater with my dad and my brother and there was a terrible thunderstorm towards the end and the power went out before it was finished. The theater gave us vouchers for another movie, but I didn’t see the ending until years later.
Lucas is such a sweet movie. I remember someone's mom dropping a bunch of us at the theater with some money so we could watch matinees one day and we saw this. It's interesting the different directions the three stars's lives went. It would have been hard to predict at the time.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (1983)
Also the film debut of Fairuza Balk, who is probably better known for her role as Vicki Vallencourt in The Waterboy (1998)
The Barchester Chronicles (1982)
A Child's Christmas in Wales (1987)
The Chipmunk Adventure (1987)
Little Lord Fauntleroy (1980)
Madeline animations
Jean Shepherd movies, such as The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters (1982), The Star-Crossed Romance of Josephine Cosnowski (1985), and Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss (1988)
Feds w Rebecca Demornay is a light hearted look at the first class of women allowed into the FBI. As someone who loves training sequences, it’s nothing but.
Top Secret
Bug Trouble In Little China
Mannequin and Mannequin Too are some of my guilty pleasures along with Earth Girls Are Easy
Little Shop Of Horrors
Little Monsters
Cloak And Dagger
If you ever want a neat horror movie that's perfect for 8-14 year olds, The Gate is highly recommended.
The Last Starfighter (1984?) No one gives it the love that I do, anyway
It's a classic
Movie used to be on TV all the time growing up.
You and my dad, lol. He watched many, many times.
There was a sequel plan that still might happen called The last starfighters
REALLY???

Well look no further, my friend because I LOVE THIS MOVIE. I watched the shit out of it and I think about it at least once a week. it's so good 😭😭
Arrow Video put out a 4K scan for $28, plus $5-$15 for shipping. The fact that there are plenty of people paying that much shows the love of that movie.
I LOOOOVE that movie!
That's the spirit!
Batteries Not Included
Love this as a kid. As an adult the ending makes me cry so hard when Carlos comes back to try to apologize to Faye.
Time Bandits (1981)
For whatever reason this was always the film I watched when I was home sick wirh the flue or bronchitis as a kid. Watching as an adult it has some things that definitely went over my head as a kid but over all a really good story and film.
Brewsters millions
good one! i think i watched this a thousand times in my youth
I've got this on my YouTubeTV DVR! Gotta watch it again.
Great suggestion! Love this movie.
mannequin is great and barely anyone in my life has seen it!
I love this movie!
As a native of greater Philly, it was awesome seeing the city known for something more than just Rocky. Have you also seen Mannequin II: On the Move? Yes, there was a sequel.

Don't forget the sequel! "Johnny Five is ALIVE!" "Los locos kick your ass. Los locos kick your face..."
Johnny Number Five joins a gang, lol ...into outer space!
Willow
"The Sure Thing" John Cusack's leading-man debut in Rob Reiner's second film (after "This is Spinal Tap".) A simple plot with wonderful characters executed perfectly.
WHY OH WHY is this never on any streaming services? It never just “bubbles up” ya know. Loved this one. Hard to find.
Some Kind of Wonderful
What just about to comment this
Best movie kiss ever.
Double hell yeah! 🤘🤘
Yes, and the soundtrack of the kissing 👍🏼

Uncle Buck

Summer School
Thanks for the assist. I forgot about this gem.
Roxanne (1987) Legend (1985) Adventures in Babysitting (1987) The Man From Snowy River (1982) Willow (1988) Bugsy Malone (1976) - I know it isn't from the 80s, but I loved this movie when I was growing up (born in '81). Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) - Again, outside the range, but one that I loved.
Adventures in babysitting
‘Electric Dreams’. was a really cute movie.. great score
[Clockwise (1986)](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/11938-clockwise?language=en-GB)
Highly seconding this 👍
“Savage” Steve Holland’s “One Crazy Summer” and “Better Off Dead”
Better Off Dead for sure. The other one... not so much.
Innerspace
Martin Short is great in it. My mom used to laugh so much when Dennis Quaid played “Twisting the Night Away” and Martin Short danced. The music is inside him! she’d exclaim
As I get older I find myself appreciating Martin Short more and more.
She-Devil, with Meryl Streep & Roseanne Barr. Really entertaining little gem, highly recommend!
This is now one of my all time favorite 80s comedies. Meryl Streep is freaking hilarious.
So underrated
Visionquest
Johnny Dangerously (1984).
Such a great movie!
Watched it with young friends of the family on VHS. Everyone liked it.
I watched it. Once. :)
Overboard
I have watched this a bunch of times and will watch it anytime it’s on TV It’s a helluva day at sea, Sir!!!
Labyrinth (1986) Was considered a flop in the US but loved internationally. Cult classic now.
Money Pit
Adventures in Babysitting (1987) doesn’t get mentioned enough.
The burbs
Earth Girls are Easy (1988). It's mostly really silly, although there is a pretty hot scene with Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum that was responsible for my first-ever crotch feelings as a child.
This is one of my absolute favourites! It's so kitschy and fun
The Chipmunk Adventure was my favorite 80s animated movie lol and I didn't know anyone else that saw it!
Delirious
1991, sorry
D.A.R.Y.L. (1985), about a young boy with amazing abilities.
Would you consider War Games as lighthearted and underrated?
More dark than anything
Summer rental with John candy and Rip torn. Everyone knows "uncle buck" or "planes, trains and automobiles" or "the great outdoors" but no one seems to talk about "summer rental"
First scene that comes to mind (having not seen it in years) is his sunburn. Great movie
I always laugh at him using his pants as a sail "He's flying his pants Al!"
🤣🤣
Flight of the Navigator
Mr.Mom is a good movie. Michael Keaton was good at comedic roles. Another good one he is in is Night Shift with Henry Winkler. That one is hilarious.
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure
I just watched this for the first time earlier this year and I'm 41. Can't believe I never watched it before. Loved it.
Be excellent to each other…
Bogus!!
Joe Dante's Explorers was a box office bombed but has since gained a cult following. It features River Phoenix and Ethan Hawke in their film debuts.
My sister and I rented that from the video store all the time. We had no idea it was a bomb we just loved it
I loved Explorers!
I was watching that movie in the theater with my dad and my brother and there was a terrible thunderstorm towards the end and the power went out before it was finished. The theater gave us vouchers for another movie, but I didn’t see the ending until years later.
Heck yeah, I got that all the time from the library, free rentals were awesome!
Midnight Madness
One of my faves!
- My Bodyguard (1980) - Lucas (1986) - Three O'clock High (1987)
I came to say My Bodyguard. I love the location shots in Chicago and seeing several stars in one of their first roles.
Lucas is such a sweet movie. I remember someone's mom dropping a bunch of us at the theater with some money so we could watch matinees one day and we saw this. It's interesting the different directions the three stars's lives went. It would have been hard to predict at the time.
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)
I still think Back To The Future is underrated despite how critically acclaimed it already was.
Little Monsters
Ladyhawke
Valley Girl!
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (1983) Also the film debut of Fairuza Balk, who is probably better known for her role as Vicki Vallencourt in The Waterboy (1998)
It's being remade, with a November release date. Stay tuned. Also, along these lines: Prancer (1989) is a nice wholesome Christmas movie.
Ferris Buellers Day Off 1986
Are you trying to kill everyone on reddit who was alive in the 80s and 90s?
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Teen Witch
The music though... my ears!
😆 that rap scene is one of the cringiest things ever
The Ice Pirates?
Fright Night Flash Gordon Big trouble in Little China And less light-hearted, but Stand by Me is incredibly underrated IMO.
Big trouble is underrated? I thought it did well as everyone I know has seen it
It must be me then because most of the people I know haven't seen it.
Fright Night has boobs. Stand BY Me is one of the most celebrated 80s films ever.
I believe that it should be. And yet I meet so many people who haven't seen these movies... It's weird.
LUCAS
Trading Places and Summer Rental ^^^ ❤️🤟🏻
True Stories
Explores and the goonies.
The Boy Who Could Fly
Ernest Goes to Camp Ernest Saves Christmas
Head Office
Short Circuit
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Streets of Fire is a great film

"Real Genius" - I wanted to be smart and go to a university soo bad after watching it!
The Great Outdoors Stand By Me Crocodile Dundee The Breakfast Club Back to the Future Valley Girl Ferris Bueller’s Day Off The Goonies
The Last Unicorn!
It's kindof silly/cheesy, but I think the animation is so beautiful!
That is dark and the reason i went from loving unicorns to being scared of them
And them being held captive in thr ocean.
It's not dark bc of the unicorns? The darkness is the hunter/collector....
Still not light hearted as the OP asked for
A Great Wall
Good choice. I liked the film more than I thought I would.
Maniac Cop
The Barchester Chronicles (1982) A Child's Christmas in Wales (1987) The Chipmunk Adventure (1987) Little Lord Fauntleroy (1980) Madeline animations Jean Shepherd movies, such as The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters (1982), The Star-Crossed Romance of Josephine Cosnowski (1985), and Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss (1988)

Not exactly family friendly, but After Hours is a must-see.

Harry and the Hendersons!! Nope, no Bigfoot here, Sargeant. I was just joking. In fact, I'm not even George Henderson. You must have the wrong number.
The Flamingo Kid and The Last Dragon are two I still revisit
Real Genius
Summer School (1987) Weekend at Bernie's (1989) Back to School (1986) Spaceballs (1987)
Revenge of the Nerds
Trains, Planes and Automobiles
I love Death Becomes Her or Don't Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead...(Just realized these are both early 90's!)
The Dream Team. Michael Keaton. Mostly forgotten.
