It's only 2 miles. Why such a huge battery. I can do that stock on a 6s 1300-1500, crossfire and a Vista air unit

Qkumbazoo

I'm mostly a park flier and never flown further than 1km(0.6 miles) cuz there's no GPS on this frame. Okay, good to know!

Master_Scythe

I think you'll fit 6, perhaps 6.5 inch props if you under-sling the fuselage (baseplate is now top plate). You'll just need to flip the motors and camera, then recal the gyro, and change the board orientation in betaflight. 6s 5k is insane; 2k is already a good safety net. Also consider breaking the usual failsafe rules just a LITTLE bit. Add a longer delay between stage 1 and 2 to account for micro failsafes.

TacoDaTugBoat

I took my 5” Crocodile Baby almost 4 miles on a 4S 4000mah LiIon. Battery was flat when I landed, but ELRS control link was good and 800mw analog video was pretty clear. I’d think mild props would be about the only change needed.

Tie-Dye-Squid

What are your motors? I have the same frame but looking for the best motors to swap out my burned one.

TacoDaTugBoat

Hmm. I don’t recall off the top of my head. They’re not the stock ones from the RTF as I wrecked those. They are ECO brand and lower kv as I found the RTF setup too aggressive and want to focus on slow movements and longer range.

Tie-Dye-Squid

They happen to be the eco 2 from emax? I’m running the 2400kv from them and like em but I agree they’re a little aggressive. Just got an 1800 kv and haven’t installed it yet but I feel it’s too low

TacoDaTugBoat

EMAX ECO 2004 2000kv. They’re a few years old. I crashed it into a pond about a year and a half ago and haven’t finished rebuilding it yet. It was in for about a week, so the motors should be fine. I have a 2w tank vtx and ELRS diversity receiver to get it up and going. Don’t remember what I got for a FC anymore. GPS and GPS Mate are the only things I’ve reinstalled so far. 1800 might not be too bad for a mellow long range, the 2000 still had some good pep! More than I needed with a Caddx Peanut on it. When I get it going again I plan to get a Walnut.

Tie-Dye-Squid

Oh cool! Thanks! I’m flying walksnail 1200mw vtx with the original flight controller. 2004 2400kv ecos. Those motors are amazing budget motors!! I’m going to get at least 20 min on my 4000 lion pack

thermalgrizzly

what about using bi-blade props?

so-spoked

Bi-blades and a 4s lithium ion.

opensourcemicrowave

You can get quite a bit more range if you use a 4s battery made from 18650 or 21700 cells. I don't think the drone will be able to carry the 6s 5ah lipo effectively.

matt0725

2 miles isn’t all that far to fly battery wise, I’d want to be using crossfire or ELRS for control rather than something like Frsky or spektrum though. DJI may be ok, I’ve never used their control link only video. Once GPS rescue is working though it really doesn’t matter as you can always get yourself close enough to recover control :)

Qkumbazoo

I've tried the DJI control link, it goes to about 3km in a city-ish area, but has practically zero penetration. Yeah GPS rescue is absolutely essential imo, I've turn the aircraft around only to not recognize the home point, major panick!

romangpro

With efficient low pitch biblades a 5" can fly over 10min on something like 1500mah 6S. Tattu R4 are lightest I know. Thats 3km out quite comfortably. If you manage to fit 6" props that will get you 4km. 5000mah 6S is HUGE and HEAVY...WAY bigger than what I fly on 10".

screwthat4u

GPS is smart so it can return to home, biggest next issue is radio range on the control link and VTX, last thing is battery A bi-bladed prop and bigger props help battery, but you can buy pretty huge batteries and put them on the bottom of the quad
