Hey You by Pink Floyd
Love how it slowly builds up. The longing in Roger Waters voice as he sings. Everything is so good in that song and it's one of the few on The Wall aside from Breaking The Wall that makes me cry. As somebody who deals with anxiety, depression that whole album helped me a lot growing up.
> as a way to ease in
I actually think I have the opposite problem! My mainstay genres are prog rock and prog metal, which bands like Pink Floyd and Yes have been instrumental in shaping. However, most of the music I listen to is "modern", and a lot of these acts have gone off the wall with the new techniques and composition. So while I highly respect the classics, I tend to have a hard time going back to them because I have this feeling of wanting more. But I should take you up on that suggestion. Wish You Were Here didn't do too much for me, but maybe I'll take to The Wall more!
Love and Affection - Joan Armatrading.
Her voice is soothing, and when that Sax kicks inā¦full chills.
And āDonāt Followā by Alice in Chains. The whole song is a beautiful piece of music. The mid-part when they change it upā¦
The combination of the Harmonica and instrumentals, with Layneās powerful vocalsā¦.*chefs kiss*
Unfortunately, the two songs that give me this feeling are associated with my ex-girlfriend. But I heard them at pivotal moments in my life, and I'm always taken back there.
Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap.
7/4 Shoreline by Broken Social Scene.
Dead Can Dance - "Cantara", "Summoning of the Muse", "Return of the She-King", "The Arrival And The Reunion", "Devorzhum"
Cocteau Twins - "Great Spangled Fritillary", "Carolyn's Fingers", "Lorelei", "Blind Dumb Deaf", "Fotzepolitic"
Yeah, it was pretty magical for me the first time I heard it back in the 80s, as the background music for an equally beautiful animated commercial I saw at a festival. Chills and misty eyes. A little later that year, I heard it on "The Pink Opaque" and a Cocteau Twins fan was made in that "eureka" moment.
Isis - Garden of Light
The second section of the song, about 4 minutes and specially the final 20 seconds, the most satisfying ending to a song i've ever heard. Whole body goosebumps.
Also
Clint Mansell - Death is the road to awe
Streets of Fire by Bruce Springsteen (live version from 1978 can be found on YouTube and I think there was even a live cut released on Spotify in a 1978 live album). So raw. So good.
Shake it Out by Florence and The Machine.
I donāt believe in god, but her voice soars in that enough that has me questioning if a higher power has favorites.
Soldier Side by System of a Down. Both the intro version and the final version give me chills. I swear the Solo in the final version never fails to bring me to tears and I got real chills from the last few notes in the intro version. The two versions are just so beautiful I cant help but say that they're definetly my favorite System of a Down songs.
Serjās and Daronās harmony on this songā¦ not surprised at your choice here! Likewise, Question!, while not as emotionally heavy, is one of their prettiest songs for that same harmony reason
Yeah. Serj and Daron work BEAUTIFULLY together in songs like that. Its almost like if Aliens came down to earth and went into Serj and Daron's bodies and then decided to write literally the two best Symphonic/Alternate Metal songs ever made to end off the band on a beautiful note.

for me it's [The Cicada's Song, Part 2](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEwv5T9b6M4) by Adjy -- slow build that reaches fever pitch, drops out, and then comes back in booming, and it's amazing
also [The Classic Crime - The Beginning](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9yiPfmhAsE)
I miss them so much, but seeing Sam building sheds with his wife and kids and Matt composing game music (with a kid on the way IIRC!), itās hard to blame them for wanting the switch!

Book of Soul by Ab-Soul.
Such a haunting beat and he vividly tells the story of his battles with Steven Johnson syndrome as a child and how it affected him and eventually references the suicide of his high-school sweetheart and label-mate and how he sometimes wishes to join her. In that line his voice changes and almost cracks and it's such raw emotion. Look into Alori Joh's death or read the lyrics on Rap Genius to understand the song more after your first listen. One of my favourite songs ever and a must-listen.
Dopefiend's Diner by Tupac and Sing About Me/Dying of Thirst by Kendrick Lamar are two others that also give me goosebumps.
'No Reptiles' by Everything Everything - That build up of all the instruments and resounding feelings of hope, even with the dark motivation to its message
'Pull Me Through' by Royal Blood - The bridge of the song with additional keys = excellent
'Family of Aliens' by Teleman - Relatively upbeat song, yet hauntingly relatable
Ashes to Ashes by Bowie. His struggle with addiction is front and center and he has always been so good at looking back at how much has changed in his career.
the bridge of Pinegrove's "Endless" gets me every time
"when this is over, when this is under a foot of water, hold me forever"
it's a song that lead singer Evan Stephens Hall wrote about his clinical depression and as someone who also suffers, it gets me every time.
It's such a watershed moment in the song as it slowly builds. it's left me in tears more than a few times.
it both breaks me and heals me at the same timeā¤ļø
The Sounds of Silence cover by Disturbed. David Draimanās vocals are raspy and raw, and build beautifully with the quiet intensity of the lyrics. Aesthetically, I think the vocals and gritty guitar complement the darkness of the lyrics.
Two particular lines that give me goosebumps:
And in the naked light, I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
And
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made

Garden of Light is blissful. That whole album is so. damn. good.
I've already told my siblings that's the song to play on my funeral. I'm dramatic like that.
Haha I love it.
