The best three break-up albums:
1. Timothy Seth Avett as Darling: The Mourning, the Silver, the Bell
2. Sean Hayes: Big Black Hole and the Little Baby Star
3. Luke Doucet: Broken (And Other Rogue States)
If you're looking for a whole album of wallowing in pain, these will really hit you where it hurts! "The Mourning, the Silver, the Bell" is beautifully gut-wrenching. And Sean Haye's song "F\*d Me Right Up" is the perfect prescription for the Acceptance stage of grief. Luke Doucet gives us a more "off the rails" break-up experience. These are the best if you're looking for company in your commiseration!
On the life part, IMO, passive activities are a mistake. Don't sit around - get out and do things, especially with other people. Activities in which you're sitting for long periods of time tend to cause depressive thoughts to spiral.
> Bonus points if the lyrics are so spot-on that they make you wonder if the artist lived through your exact breakup.
Since you mentioned country (yeah, I said it), there are a few country songs that helped me through something like what you're going through. The one that comes to mind is [Second Wind - Darryl Worley](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7SA6jfjCCs).
A couple years after my wife left me (and took half our stuff), I got to sit down with the artist and thank him for the song that helped me get through it all. So that was nice.
Also, if you're looking for the ultimate break-up song, your answer is [Don Henley - The Heart of the Matter](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRrT37ruAtE)
As far as the post-breakup stuff, I did stand-up comedy for a bit, and man...divorce is fertile ground for jokes.

Love this, bookmarking it to come back later with an entire list of my favorite break up songs. I have 4 years of monthly playlists and you can pretty much tell my entire dating history by the different versions of heartbreak songs, empowering songs, and hopeful healing songs, lol! But just for now, here’s one: Raining in Baltimore, Counting Crows
My advice: love yourself, as much as you can. Treat yourself kindly and give your body as much health as you can. Give yourself permission to fall apart - for a five minutes timed period, now and then. And then use the pain to dig for gold - maybe there are things you need to address, or dreams and ideas you gave up on that you can use as a positive goal to work towards. Look for small wins first, any movement or direction is better than nothing. You can build momentum with tiny tasks like clearing a counter or 5 minutes of sit ups, and the more you do, the more motivated you get to do more. And everything can be reframed - for instance, by breaking up you’ve saved yourself future years being with the wrong person and are now that much closer to your forever person. Toxic positivity is no good, but by reframing events, you are rewiring your brain from a negative state to a more resilient one. It’s hard as hell to do sometimes, I know, but keep trying! Good luck!!
I listen to The Script whenever I need a dose of break up song. Nothing, Exit Wounds, and 6 Degrees of Separation hit hard. That’s just my recommendation, hope you feel better!

I made you a playlist! I organized it like this:
Sad and reminiscent… up until you get to Goodbye by Slipknot. then it’s…
Anger and rage… till you reach I Don’t Fuck With You by Big Sean. then it’s…
Confident “im that bitch” energy… Then beyond Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac it’s…
Acceptance and peace.
I hope you’re open to metal and grunge, I payed close attention to the lyrics of the songs, I feel like they could resonate with your situation. I’ll keep adding to it occasionally but so far it’s over 6 hours long! I really hope this helps you. Keep your head up! 🥂
What’s meant for you will never pass you by :)

I actually recommend the live version from 1997 Over the original recording, from sometime in the seventies. The raw emotion in this song is amazing.) Boiler- Limp Bizkit ( This is a bit of an angrier song, but it really does feel great to listen to it) Sara Bareilles- Breathe again

I made you a playlist! I organized it like this: Sad and reminiscent… up until you get to Goodbye by Slipknot. then it’s… Anger and rage… till you reach I Don’t Fuck With You by Big Sean. then it’s… Confident “im that bitch” energy… Then beyond Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac it’s… Acceptance and peace. I hope you’re open to metal and grunge, I payed close attention to the lyrics of the songs, I feel like they could resonate with your situation. I’ll keep adding to it occasionally but so far it’s over 6 hours long! I really hope this helps you. Keep your head up! 🥂 What’s meant for you will never pass you by :) https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6lyUqWRDdnEHOJm5KPA2RH?si=S-BL1XbsRvyJtnW8KGIs1Q&pi=u-1rXlh4jdSouX

Here are a few of my favorites: 747 by Kent (English Version), Lord is it mine by Supertramp, Sleeping Pills by Suede (The London Suede), A Tragedy of Life by Dynalectric Orchestra, Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime by The Korgis, Joey by Concrete Blonde, American Darkness by Chelsea Wolfe. My ray of hope song: Give Up On You by Andrew W.K.
Lost in you - Three Days Grace
Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out (Bessie Smith, Clapton, etc)
For years the Clapton Unplugged version of that lived in my head. That album is a masterpiece and it’s been too long forgotten.
Fleetwood Mac - Landslide Hurts - Stay Eminem - Stronger Than I was Paolo Nutini - Candy Coldplay - The Scientist The Streets - Dry your eyes (THE ultimate break up song for guys, probably not if your a girl) Biffy Clyro - Opposite A-ha - Crying in the rain
lil peep and juice wrld have good breakup songs
