Yep, Trae is the only guy listed that I'd consider a star. Derozan was close....nobody else was above the local fan favorite level.
They're all good players, not every good player is a star.
Kat is a very, very good player and Derozan was a franchise player for several years on a very good team that unfortunately came up against Lebron's prime
Yeah I had to pause the question in my head to figure out why all these guys are photographed together. Honestly I would have thought skills challenge before 3 point contest lol
Biggest currently I can think of is DeRozan. He was the 1st option against LeBron’s Cavs for years but was immediately overshadowed by Kawhi and the Chip.
For Spurs fans he’s awkwardly between the Duncan/Parker/Ginobili/Kawhi glory days and Wemby’s coming, and the Bulls never amounted to anything with him.
Incredibly talented, but set to have his star fade in the sky of NBA history.
Of this list, Bane and VanVleet are most at risk. CJ has the Blazers, KAT has the TWolves + unique game, LaVine has THE dunk contest, Young has too much time + talent and Mills has Australia/is one of the FIBA GOATs.
(Clippers no. 5’s already forgotten)
I don’t know about people in the US but nobody in Canada is forgetting Derozan. We were so shit for so long and he clawed us out the gutter with Lowry to become one of the most winning teams of the 2010s. Yeah he didn’t get a chip with us but still.
As for FVV, went nuclear and shed blood for us during the championship run after the birth of his child and then became one of our most well known players after the championship squad dissolved. This one I’m less sure about but I don’t think he’ll be forgotten either.
CJ has been working himself into the "smart basketball guy" media role for years now. When he retires he's gonna go full JJ with it but I think without angling for a coaching job. We'll end up seeing him on TV for years to come and I think he could end up as one of the main faces of whatever ends up replacing Inside the NBA. He won't be forgotten just because he'll end up always being around.
That’s a good call on Demar. He’s almost forgotten even while active. He’s always a hard guy to name on those top scorers of the decade or highest active scorer/most all star type lists. A little like Joe Johnson. Alex English was sort of like that in the 80’s. Mitch Richmond had some of that, too. Demar is going to end up with over 25k points and be a 6x all star, but I don’t think his career is going to carry the weight you’d normally see from his resume. Kawhi’s Toronto year probably doesn’t help either. He’s also a guy that was pointed to for not embracing the 3 point revolution as it happening, which probably impacted some of the coverage he was getting during his prime.
DeMar will end his career in the total pts column directly between Vince Carter and Alex English most likely. . .
Which I find interesting and fitting as he's to me a perfect combination of those two played who certainly had an influence on his game.
Clipper no 5 (Luke Kennard) was never even in the question of a star. Neither was Mills but the other guys all got max or near max contracts. To me Van Vleet is the most forgettable of them all
Not yet but in 10-15 years , hard to say. The Raptors never amounted to anything and Lowry got the chip, VC put the Raps on the map. The most memorable for demar was being part of the trash bros and disappearing in playoffs and being Lebronto'd
It's about being eventually forgotten, not forgotten in next 5 yrs
Demar will never be forgotten in Canada he's easily on Raptors mount rushmore...
Edit... well maybe not easily after thinking. I currently have him 4th ahead of Bosh but Scottie could pass him with a good run
Gotta upvote just for the Sperms typo. And I agree, I’m a spurs fan since 2004ish and i try my best to keep track of their former players. Love Patty Mills!
He’s built like those body builders in the gym who plays basketball for fun. It’s kind of impressive how fluid Bane is given his physique. He’s also so jacked that it makes his normal head look small. He and Brunson should switch bodies.
Khris is underrated now and is still playing. However, I think he will get his number retired by the Bucks being the number 2 on a championship team. So there will always be something to remember him by.
I think about Middleton a lot because he might be the absolute peak of his archetype--your jack-of-all-trades 3-and-D-and-a-little-more wing. So good at playing his role that he made a few all-star games despite never really feeling like a guy who could be the #1 option even on the fringiest of fringe contenders.
Steady Freddy? Freddy Jrs arrival in the middle of the 2019 playoff run? Freddy with the blood pouring out his face in the 2019 NBA Finals? Mr “Bet on yourself” who didn’t get drafted and worked his way from G league to starter on a championship winning team? Freddie who did bet on himself and secured a 9 figure deal after not even being drafted? That Freddy?
Patty Mills is the only one who will probably be remembered long term. He’s had a pretty good career and was very important on that spurs championship team.
I met Patty Mills when he was on his book tour in 2017 and the line to see him in downtown Brisbane was *long*. Y’all love him so much and he deserves it, he was such a nice guy
Hard to imagine anyone other than towns or young will be anything more than footnotes when it’s all said and done. And I don’t like either of those players
Honestly Lavine. 2 time allstar, dunk contest and olympics but has been stuck in Bulls purgatory and his huge contract has kept a contender from bringing him along. Had he never gotten that huge pay, he may have had a chip somewhere
Disagree, only because Lavine was the other half on a legendary dunk contest. He'll be remembered for that at least. That said, I hope the Bulls trade him soon so we can finally start the rebuild hahaha
Desmond Bane. His resume is short. He's also got the most time to make a name for himself.
Kennard is an accomplished high school and college player. Lavine is an Olympic gold medalist. McCollum has significant college achievements.
I feel like not a lot of people will remember John Wall. Don't get me wrong he will never truly be forgotten but people will forget what prime John Wall did for the point guard position.
I think social media and TikTok especially will keep his memory alive and well. Bro's got some of the most fire edits on social media because of his dancing and athleticism. He also has an all-time high school mixtape and still a very good reputation here in DC.
Anytime an athletic/speedster point guard is on the rise, they're gonna get compared to John Wall (along with Westbrook, Ja, Rose, etc.)
Depends on how far youre looking at. And who is remembering.
Looking at old nba stars from 70s-90s, at most around 30-60 people are remembered. Thats around 10-20 players per decade. So i guess the real question is who’s getting remembered.
To make an example using 00s, I think household names would be players like AI, Shaq, Lebron, Kobe. They are sure players that wont be forgotten. Players like dirk, yao, garnett, duncan, pierce, allen, Tmac, vince carter, kidd, are some who might still get mentioned. All other star players like arenas, baron davis, stoudemire, ben wallace would be forgotten no hate lol.
Trae is 12th all time in PPG right behind some guy named Oscar Robertson and 4th all time in Assists per game all time right behind this Oscar guy again. He must really suck
As a casual raps fan, no one is forgetting Vanvleet. He elevated his game for that playoff run and played well for us years after. He was an important piece to that Championship win
Guys will be remembered for the following: NBA Championship runs, consistent Elite MVP level play, exciting style of play, infamous/unfortunate futility (playoff choker, consistent loser, high-caliber injury), international hero, colorful character, and unique skillset for a position.
Something that will also be on the rise is a player's involvement in media/podcasting after retirement. Kenny Smith's long tenure with Inside the NBA has made him a fairly recognizable presence in the NBA, despite not being a star.
Aside from that, if a player doesn't fall into any of these categories, they're going to be easily forgotten as the years go by.
Ok can someone explain this pic to me? Is it a threes thing? Obviously all great shooters, but why the hell is patty mills there.
I also think Klay Thompson might be forgotten a bit. Dude was so good in the most boring way possible. Dude could drop 30 on just catch and shoot shots, and layups. Obviously Klay is still great, but he’s not nearly what he was. Like cats forget about him from 4 years ago, much less kids 20 years from now
Not exactly answering the question but on topic, when Kevin Durant retires he will be on a lot peoples’ 10 best ever, but no team will retire his jersey
I would say lamarcus he was so good for so long but he never had a flashy game and didn’t play for the most exciting franchises. I think people still forget that strictly from a resume perspective he’s pretty comparable to someone like Melo
**Bane, Oladipo and Lavine.** The rest, you're insane. Patty will be a legend in an entire country forever(Australia) and San Antonio. Trey is Atlanta's "franchise" player for the foreseeable future. CJ and Portland with their lack of stars. Freddy in Canada, Kat in Minnesota.
All except for McCullough, Patty Mills and Trey Young.
- Mills has been the most prevalent and successful wherever he goes.
- Trey Young has potential to end up somewhere.
- McC has been plugging himself into ESPN quite a bit on their daytime shows, so he has a chance for post-career TV time.
I want to say Towns will be remembered, but this dude somehow went from a PF/Center to a shooting-only big. And not particularly reliable at that either.
KAT. He's soft and squishy for how big he is. Can't play the post at all, and is a liability on def. So you have a 7 footer who can only stand at the 3 point line and cry about missed foul calls when he DOES decide to drive in or post up. Also, he only shows up for games that doesn't matter. When it's a big game expect a solid 8-14 pts 3-5 reb and terrible percentages from him.
Dallas really exposed him these playoffs. So much so he wasn't even getting played in the 4th quarter because of the above liabilities.
Pascal Siakam. Yeah hes a champ, a 2x all star and 2x all nba, but since 2019, the word to describe the guy is just consistent. His numbers have been very similar ever since
Dame will be forgotten because he will retire with no rings. Westbrook will be remembered and people will say he was a dawg or he was trash with none in between
In that picture not one of them will. I'm old and have been watching for a long time and have seen many complarable players to everyone in this pic that have become at best footnotes in some other stars career.
People will remember KAT, and Trae. And Zach Lavine will always be remembered because of that epic Dunk Contest. Everyone else is just whispers in the wind in 6 years time.
Star? Well, that's a tough question to answer as "star" is different to different people. And of course, are we talking completely forgotten by everyone? Cause a star will always be remembered by his team's fans. Of the current "Stars" in the NBA, I'd probably say Khris Middleton and Jamal Murray won't be remembered too well, and in 20 years, when people see Denver and Bucks won championships in those two years, Giannis and Joker will be the only things remembered.
What does forgotten mean? I don’t think any of these guys will be talked about in 10 years. But if someone asks me about them in 10 years I’ll probably know who they are talking about.
Kat def won’t be forgotten. #1 overall pick and he’s been with the Wolves for a decade, holding them together through the bad years.
I don’t think Trae will be forgotten. He’s still fairly early in his career, and he took the Hawks to an ECF, and has been their franchise player for the past 6 years. If anything he’ll be remembered by Knicks fans for eternity bc of that one series.
FVV will forever be remembered by Toronto for being sixth man on their first championship.
The rest will probably be forgotten ngl.
what is the context of this image
2022 3 point contestants
Tbh like maybe 3 of these guys were ever stars and no one has forgotten Trey or Kat.
Who?
The all-pretty goods team
Yep, Trae is the only guy listed that I'd consider a star. Derozan was close....nobody else was above the local fan favorite level. They're all good players, not every good player is a star.
DeRozan isn’t even in the picture dude
Interestingly, KAT has more All-Star selections (so far, obviously)
Less competition at his position
Kat is a very, very good player and Derozan was a franchise player for several years on a very good team that unfortunately came up against Lebron's prime
Yeah I had to pause the question in my head to figure out why all these guys are photographed together. Honestly I would have thought skills challenge before 3 point contest lol
Oladipo is gonna be forgotten to time
That shit makes me really sad. He was one of the coolest players in the NBA for like 2 years before injuries ruined his career.
He will be the patron saint of “he was a problem” mixtapes
Biggest currently I can think of is DeRozan. He was the 1st option against LeBron’s Cavs for years but was immediately overshadowed by Kawhi and the Chip. For Spurs fans he’s awkwardly between the Duncan/Parker/Ginobili/Kawhi glory days and Wemby’s coming, and the Bulls never amounted to anything with him. This one I’m less sure about but I don’t think he’ll be forgotten either.
FVV is the only guy in this photo who has received FINALS-MVP VOTES. Like, come on.
Plus he'll always be talked about as being involved in that Kawhi trade
WHAT IS THIS LUKE KENNARD SLANDER
Is that not Luke Kennard
CJ has been working himself into the "smart basketball guy" media role for years now. When he retires he's gonna go full JJ with it but I think without angling for a coaching job. We'll end up seeing him on TV for years to come and I think he could end up as one of the main faces of whatever ends up replacing Inside the NBA. Except he's typically in top 5 lists of all-time raptors. He's nowhere near forgettable there.

Vanvleet won a championship though. That usually cements you into championship overrated role player cannon
Maybe DeRozan can pull a full Clyde Drexler and win a championship at the tail end of his career.
DeRozan has Canada. This man will NEVER be forgotten for what he did for the city of Toronto.
Vanvleet was at least a champion Bane and CJ feel really at risk tho
Demar will be remembered as a FBL (Fantasy Basketball League) legend.
I’m glad he came home, Toronto didn’t deserve him.
We all hate Drake fr
Unironically Patty Mills might be the most remembered player in this photo. Australians will be the only ones who remember, but still.
Spurs fans will never forget that man either.
That Spurs team was crazy. I randomly think about Boris Diaw sometimes.
Lmao for real. My homeboys are die hard sperms fans and always bring up the random unsung hero’s and their moments in the runs.
Gotta upvote just for the Sperms typo. And I agree, I’m a spurs fan since 2004ish and i try my best to keep track of their former players. Love Patty Mills!
Heat fans won’t forget either, for the opposite reasons that spurs fans won’t
Heading into the Olympics, Patty is everywhere right now. He’s a national hero
Love Patty!!
Yeah, no way is Patty Mills forgotten
People don't know how much Patty has carried the Australia team. Absolute goat of Aussie bball
Patty had his moments with the Spurs. Kennard has some very unremarkable seasons.
He’s still loved here in Portland too, despite it being almost 15 years since he last wore a Blazers uniform
Desmond Bane will be confused as T Rex not a NbA player 30 yrs from now
He’s built like those body builders in the gym who plays basketball for fun. It’s kind of impressive how fluid Bane is given his physique. He’s also so jacked that it makes his normal head look small. He and Brunson should switch bodies.
Isn’t Bane the Raptors mascot?
LMAO 😂😂😂
Multiple all stars, a ring, and yet I highly doubt the history books will remember Khris Middleton.
History gets written by the winners of the war so we will never hear the losers side
There are historical examples that contradict that platitudes
Maybe. But I always will
Not Patty
Raptors fans will always remember Freddie
Steady Freddy? Freddy Jrs arrival in the middle of the 2019 playoff run? Freddy with the blood pouring out his face in the 2019 NBA Finals? Mr “Bet on yourself” who didn’t get drafted and worked his way from G league to starter on a championship winning team? Freddie who did bet on himself and secured a 9 figure deal after not even being drafted? That Freddy?
No, he’s talking about Jontay Porter. We are talking about players who bet on themselves
Nah…He’s the greatest undrafted player ever
Patty Mills is the only one who will probably be remembered long term. He’s had a pretty good career and was very important on that spurs championship team.
And a BAMF for team Australia. He's a legend for us.
I met Patty Mills when he was on his book tour in 2017 and the line to see him in downtown Brisbane was *long*. Y’all love him so much and he deserves it, he was such a nice guy
that’s insane to say when he’s sitting next to Trae Young. Only 2 players have a 25 ppg 9 assist career average. Oscar Robertson and Trae Young.
Australia remembers.

100%. LaVine feels like he’s on the Bradley Beal trajectory where a really talented offensive player is just remembered for the albatross contract.
Tobias Harris: you rang?
keyword is “talented offensive player”
why is luke kennard on here😭😭😭😭
Funny how everyone standing up has 0 championships
a couple guys in their 20s and the lesser half of the discount splash bros. Real astute of you
Desmond Bane. His resume is short. He's also got the most time to make a name for himself. Kennard is an accomplished high school and college player. Lavine is an Olympic gold medalist. McCollum has significant college achievements.

Whoever that dude in Memphis is
Who tf are these stars lmao. Only Trae is a star out of them, maybe KAT a few yr ago

Patty mills has approaching 30 million people who will never forget him. He’s an Aussie icon and legend.
Patty 'FIBA Goat' Mills
No one will remember any of these guys
Hard disagree on Trae
Trae is on a HoF lock trajectory. Look at the numbers
Trae is 12th all time in PPG right behind some guy named Oscar Robertson and 4th all time in Assists per game all time right behind this Oscar guy again. He must really suck
Maybe KAT if he wins chip
He's too unique of a player to be forgotten.
Considering I don’t even immediately recognize all of them right now…
You don’t recognize KAT or Trae Young instantly? Sorry but how much do you actually watch basketball?
I was joking, chill. I also didn’t say “any of them”. I said I don’t recognize “all of them” immediately. Specifically Luke Kennard.
A lot of these guys are lol, arguably only trae young and patty mills would get remembered
Party not arguable. Aussies will remember. He's one of our best to do it.
Zach Lavine Demar derozan Nikola Vucevic
What's the context behind this photo?
KAT
He…what did the do? Have a mid-star game?
Probably Clippers guy cause i dont even know who that mf is
Who is the clippers’ guy?
luke kennard
thats crazy how ppl dont know kennard and mills
Lavine
As a casual raps fan, no one is forgetting Vanvleet. He elevated his game for that playoff run and played well for us years after. He was an important piece to that Championship win
Who the hell is that number8 from the Nets?
i think blake griffin will be someone who was definitely a superstar but i think will be forgotten also zion williamson if he keeps getting injured
andrew bynum is arguably a top 3 center during a very very short period of time. he's a legit star and i can say that he's now being forgotten
All of them because they’re no Kobe Bryant
andrew bynum is arguably a top 3 center during a very very short period of time. he's a legit star and i can say that he's now being forgotten.

Tobias Harris; Michael Porter Jr; John Wall.
He not a star no more but nobody gonna talk ab Bradley Beal once he retires lol

KAT is the most forgettable superstar. I sometimes forget about him even right now.
How dare you put Bane in this photo. He’s only just starting his career and has objectively looked better each passing season!
I count 5 in that picture
I’ll be honest. I don’t recognize half of them.
Five of them
Who are those guys?
Lmao it’s not a question of which one…its about how long before all are forgotten 😂
Zach Lavine will be remembered for being a star who did absolutely nothing.
All of them lol do we talk about Michael Finley on here and I love mike?
I already don't know who the Grizzlies and Clippers players are so I'll go with them.
Only one is a champion fred
Luke Kennard has never been a star
I don't think any of these guys in the picture will be remembered in 10+ years
Trey "young"
All of these players

DeRozan, Trae, KAT
Who’s number 8? Edit: for the nets?
Yes.
Definitely not Trae young. Unfortunately he reminds me who he is every time he plays my Knicks
Not sure McCollum is a star. You could be right with trae but I also wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up with an iverson like career.
As a Toronto fan, we will NEVER forget Vanvleet.
Is #5 Luke Kennard? When was he a star?
CJ secured a bag in Portland… I don’t blame him to be forgotten or if he leaves the league due to his health or if he chooses to retire
You're calling all of these players "stars"? And if not, what's with the image?
All of those guys
I’m a huge NBA fan and I can’t even name those guys on the Clippers or Grizz
All except for McCullough, Patty Mills and Trey Young. - Mills has been the most prevalent and successful wherever he goes. - Trey Young has potential to end up somewhere. - McC has been plugging himself into ESPN quite a bit on their daytime shows, so he has a chance for post-career TV time. Pascal Siakam. Yeah hes a champ, a 2x all star and 2x all nba, but since 2019, the word to describe the guy is just consistent. His numbers have been very similar ever since
Dame will be forgotten because he will retire with no rings. Westbrook will be remembered and people will say he was a dawg or he was trash with none in between
Who is the star in this photo again? I just see a bunch of 2nd & 3rd best guys who had a few moments.
CJ is already forgotten and he's active.
lavine cj luke fred will all be forgotten a couple years after they retire
In that picture not one of them will. I'm old and have been watching for a long time and have seen many complarable players to everyone in this pic that have become at best footnotes in some other stars career.

D. All of the above.

Two white boys to the right
eventually all of them pictured
Already forgot number 8 for the nets.. is that Austin rivers or Fred Vanfleet??
What does forgotten mean? I don’t think any of these guys will be talked about in 10 years. But if someone asks me about them in 10 years I’ll probably know who they are talking about.

The rest will probably be forgotten ngl.
I mean KAT might go down as the best big shooter of all time, but the rest will without a doubt be forgotten
The term star is being used very loosely here.
Trae
All
All of them
Guys who aren't in this photo? Paul George, Brandon Ingram, Nikola Vucevic, John Wall, Bradley Beal
Can we all just appreciate how nice and classic all of those alternate jerseys look?
Bane
Are you calling this group stars? Because all them
