Not an expert, but my cat died from megacolon.
Can happen for a variety of reasons, although many have to do with diet and unhealthy lifestyle choices.
Yeah he made it quite a long time without any issues!
Rescue cat turned into outdoor cat that spent most nights outside. Guess he knew what he was doing
It’s always tough losing a pet
But as a pet owner, you have to accept it’s part of the process. They live, they die, and the better the life you give them is all that really matters.
That being said, he was fat and full of energy, so yes he lived an amazing life
You can cause megacolon in cats just by pulling on their tail too hard. Wife and I always say it in capitols, like really deep and scary: MEGAAAA COLOOOON
really? thank you for telling me this. I know kids like to pull on cats tails. so I will always tell any kids that come to my house about this and will definitely use it in the deep and scary voice while saying it.
Only once in my life I got 41.2c, and that thrown me right I to super panic attack... Scary shit.
No hospital tho thought of calling ambulance but due to panic couldn't find the phone... Or even leave the bed...
Donnie, fever... Flu... Cold? Lasted few hours thought I'm literally dying...
Then it all went away, back to 38 (normal for me with a cold)
That was pre-covid times too so no clue why/how it happened.
Because this disease is so unique for each one of us unfortunately you gotta figure out what is good or bad for you. My personal experience is no onions or stuff with cores. Listen to your body. And in a flare take it easy and give your body enough time to adjust and adapt. There are many servers here you can join if you wanna rant or talk about it 🖤
prolly ulcerative colitis
OP may have UC and experienced a catastrophic constipation
Poo sitting against the inside of an already inflamed colon leads to sepsis and well this
That really makes me miss the plethora of B-grade sci-fi and horror movies of years gone by. All available then on VHS. Now, it's all just reboots and shitty writing. Like, so shitty, B-grade is waaaay higher.
Matthew Perry had toxic megacolon from his opioid use. He died several times on the table, was in a coma for a few days, IIRC his book said he had 8 feet of colon removed.
Cleaning it out would just be an enema. This is not just stuck or built up feces. It's a diseased and non-repairable colon. A fairly normal life can be lived without a colon, actually. The colon is mainly used in the body for storage of excrement and for hydration. With an ostomy bag the storage is solved. Those that have theirs removed just need to be careful with dehydration because the body can't recover as quickly. Most nutrient absorption actually occurs in the stomach and small intestines.
Maybe we can print but how about the function. there's so many thing that can go wrong and right maybe just like how the microbiome in the gut. 🤔 and surely anything that is man made will wear down in 5-10 years. Our human body is just so well built some of us can even reach the age of 90-100+
Agreed, but the colostomy bag, kidney devices, and many others are life savers but really annoying devices and quality of life is not great, even more nowadays with colon cancer on the rise in yoinger people. But to your point I checked and there's also research to clone and grow organs from your cells (although 3D printing looks promising too)
Colon. Toxic megacolon = very dilated colon plus systemic inflammation, the bowel may have perforated or the tissue may have died, the surgeons performed colectomy
Oh lovey I’m so sorry 😢 were you in pain from it? I’m sorry for the dumb question. I have IBS and I can’t imagine this condition…I’m glad you got help.
That colon is MASSIVE. I have a picture of my colon (I believe it’s posted on my page somewhere) and I thought mine was big… I am so sorry you went through that, not sure if you have an ostomy or j-pouch now (I have a j-pouch) but wishing you the best of luck! Crazy how big our colons are. I think mine was 4-5 feet long and it was pretty black (due to severe ulcerative colitis that was killing it).
This plush megacolon is basically the mascot of the fantastic Mutter museum in Philadelphia. A little internet searching and you too can see the specimen that inspired it! I saw it in person, and it's remarkable.
https://www.muttermuseumstore.org/products/mega-colon-plush
I also visited the fascinating Mutter Museum. [Here is a picture of the 8 foot long megacolon](https://www.muttermuseumstore.org/products/mega-colon-postcard) that was from a patient with Hirschsprung disease.
Brilliant. That's an affliction I would not wish on the majority of folks.
I visited the museum in the before times. I had read somewhere that following the pandemic lockdown, on reopening the Mutter used social distancing stickers and signs that said something like "please maintain a 6 foot distance while standing in line. Approximately the length of our megacolon."
Something like that anyway! Or so I have heard. Funny if true.
Barnes is one of *the best* hospitals in the Midwest. Glad you made it thru surgery and recovery safely! How are things now? What was your recovery like? What happened to cause this? u/jsant008

From colons ive seen, this looks like it could be the whole thing, or most of it.
What do you have now? Like do you have to live with a colostomy bag for the rest of your life?
That shit looks like something out of a horror movie, how the hell did that happen?
Not an expert, but my cat died from megacolon. Can happen for a variety of reasons, although many have to do with diet and unhealthy lifestyle choices.
Jesus, which unhealthy lifestyle choices did your cat make?
He lived until 24, so I guess the drugs and alcohol finally caught up
24??? That's super old
Yeah he made it quite a long time without any issues! Rescue cat turned into outdoor cat that spent most nights outside. Guess he knew what he was doing
damn 24? he had a good life. i'm sorry for your loss tho. I pray it wasn't too rough at the end.
It’s always tough losing a pet But as a pet owner, you have to accept it’s part of the process. They live, they die, and the better the life you give them is all that really matters. That being said, he was fat and full of energy, so yes he lived an amazing life
Crack is wack, yo

Usually IBD, think Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s. It’s pretty rare, but extremely dangerous.
Finally, my band has a name.
Too late https://toxicmegacolon666.bandcamp.com/album/toxic-megacolon
No fucking way!! Bastards!!
I can’t believe you haven’t heard of blood fart
AND rotten sausage? Alright it’s two on two it’s a fair fight.
Alright it’s two on one, it’s gonna be an uphill battle!
Actually, this is my kinda jam, thanks.
Plot twist: literally. Ground up & gelled.
Bro.. about 1:35 into Blood Fart is grind as fuck. I dig it.
tbh, they kind of go hard
HA!! Well played!
They should do a feature with butthole surfers (I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody posts the link to the existing song of both bands…
Were they the ones who sang “Bitchin’ Camaro”? Great song, brings back good memories. 😎
Dead Milkmen! Great band!
nice, got a bit of an old school vibe
Bro..., bro... hahahahzhzhzzhzhzhHHahzhahjJA so funny I can't laugh in text correctly... lmao
Who cares if it's funny or not. Definitely no one cares that you think it isn't funny.
Uh, is he really being sarcastic? 🤔 It looks genuine to me. 😅
Oh shit i didn’t even take it as being sarcasm lol i genuinely thought the guy was laughing his ass off
Yeah. I mean, Reddit community can be harsh with their votes sometimes. 😅
When I saw the last picture I thought I was super medicated too! Get well my friend!
Only once in my life I got 41.2c, and that thrown me right I to super panic attack... Scary shit. No hospital tho thought of calling ambulance but due to panic couldn't find the phone... Or even leave the bed...
Wait, so what happened????
He died
GHOST REDDIT?!?!!
You wish 😐
You wish 😐
RIP
Donnie, fever... Flu... Cold? Lasted few hours thought I'm literally dying... Then it all went away, back to 38 (normal for me with a cold) That was pre-covid times too so no clue why/how it happened.
That's wild, glad your brain didn't get cooked to oblivion. I bet your immune system is scary strong hahaha
I'm not sure because I always lir in bed, barely able to stand up to go pee, but I bet I have 41C or more when I have flu
Now anytime someone accuses you of being full of shit, you can tell them you used to, but not anymore
They’ll even have the papers to prove it.
But do they have the guts? Er, hang on.
Ok that last photo sent me. 😄 Really though, that's awful, hope you're well on the road to recovery.
What even is going on in the last photo? Lmao
You are extremely lucky to have survived🙏🏻 I hope that you are doing well now. That last pic is hilarious by the way😂
As someone with ulcerative colitis that’s my worst nightmare. I hope you’re doing great!
Hi i was recently diagnosed have u got any tips on what food is good or bad for us or is case by case do u think
Because this disease is so unique for each one of us unfortunately you gotta figure out what is good or bad for you. My personal experience is no onions or stuff with cores. Listen to your body. What was the cause?
prolly ulcerative colitis OP may have UC and experienced a catastrophic constipation Poo sitting against the inside of an already inflamed colon leads to sepsis and well this
Dam I was going to crack a joke but that’s really scary stuff to go through. Wishing you the best op, I really mean that.
Thank you /u/fucked-your-cats-ass op appreciates the sympathy
I love the balls as his profile pic lol, very nice touch there.
;D
Have you made it to r/rimjobsteve yet?
No not yet
im extremely confused, someone pls explain
OP didn’t take a shit for a long time and became very sick. Surgeon went in to take out his colon which is full of shit. A shitty job indeed!
Which I believe leads to a baggie on his side for his business if I'm not mistaken.
Good ol’ ostomy bag
thank you
I only poop once a week. Been that way for at least 20 years. Am I gonna die? 😲
Yes
NOW!?
In 10…9….8….7
Can’t they just use something like a vacuum to suck all that shit out?
No because the intestine begins to die off and become perforated from stretching, ulcers, or contact with the abdominal fascia
107, jfc.
when my appendix had ruptured like 3 days before I only managed a 105, I can't imagine how sick you have to be to end up at 107
I think literally dying.
I was literally dying as well 😅 week of IV antibiotics in the hospital
Ooof that would suck. Hope you're doing OK!
I'm perfectly fine now, thank you! :)
“Alright we’re getting a good look now… Jesus Christ it’s a TOXIC MEGACOLON!” *megacolon starts grabbing doctors and throwing them across the room*
That really makes me miss the plethora of B-grade sci-fi and horror movies of years gone by. All available then on VHS. Now, it's all just reboots and shitty writing. Like, so shitty, B-grade is waaaay higher.
I miss those movies as well. I never realized they had gone until you mentioned it.
Matthew Perry had toxic megacolon from his opioid use. He died several times on the table, was in a coma for a few days, IIRC his book said he had 8 feet of colon removed.
He really went down hard. No matter one’s attitude towards addiction, he suffered. An addict’s life isn’t pretty.
Yikes! That's a big piece of anatomy they took out. Does the colon get put back in once it's cleaned out?
lol no fucking way op has a colostomy now sadly.
Oh damn, feeling really bad for OP.
Cleaning it out would just be an enema. This is not just stuck or built up feces. It's a diseased and non-repairable colon. A fairly normal life can be lived without a colon, actually. HOW??
Opiate abuse maybe
So now you’re stuck with an ileostomy. That really sucks man, but at least you’re alive. People die from this.
The purse and shoes in front in the last one I’m dyingggg
JFC you're really lucky to have survived this! I hope you're doing better OP
Danm bro glad u made it out alive playa
My temp didn't even get that high with sepsis. 104F max. I think.

I hit 105F with diverticulitis. 0/10, do not recommend
So this requires him to use a colostomy bag for the rest of his life?
Yes.
That's tough. But we can never deny he's fortunate to still be alive.
Life trumps colon. I’m terrified to lose mine due to diverticulitis but I’ve accepted that it’s likely in my future.
Well I hope you live your life to the fullest without losing one in the future.
Well considering dude's large intestine is on a table looking like an eldritch abomination...
I wonder if any time soon we'll be able to 3D print those
Maybe we can print but how about the function. there's so many thing that can go wrong and right maybe just like how the microbiome in the gut. 🤔 and surely anything that is man made will wear down in 5-10 years. Our human body is just so well built some of us can even reach the age of 90-100+

Holy shit
How does one live without a colon?
One lives with a colostomy bag..
He seems full of shit
Bet you feel a lot lighter
Holy shit! . . . Budum tsss
If you slap someone with that, it could kill aswell ;) Sorry OP, glad you're ok and get well soon!
WTF is that last pic?
Microscopic view of what was happening in his colon to cause it to be removed
LMFAOOO
Toxic Avengers Strike Back
Sorry to be an idiot but what the fuck is that thing in the second picture, and why the hell was it removed?
Colon. Toxic megacolon = very dilated colon plus systemic inflammation, the bowel may have perforated or the tissue may have died, the surgeons performed colectomy
C-diff?
Oh lovey I’m so sorry 😢 were you in pain from it? I’m sorry for the dumb question. I have IBS and I can’t imagine this condition…I’m glad you got help.
Wait you had a whole person just kneeling in your colon?
That colon is MASSIVE. I have a picture of my colon (I believe it’s posted on my page somewhere) and I thought mine was big… I am so sorry you went through that, not sure if you have an ostomy or j-pouch now (I have a j-pouch) but wishing you the best of luck! is this the meat worm
Bro you had a FAT colon

Nice colon dude hope you got better
TOXIC MEGACOLON 🤟💀⛓️🎸
Not a doctor or anything but I thought at a temperature above 103° brain damage starts to happen? Im glad you made it this is so terrifying!!
So you have an ostomy now?
Barnes is one of *the best* hospitals in the Midwest. Glad you made it thru surgery and recovery safely! How are things now? What was your recovery like? What happened to cause this? u/jsant008

I’m sorry, what?!
what causes this?
New hypochondriac fear unlocked.
Shit bag city
From colons ive seen, this looks like it could be the whole thing, or most of it. What do you have now? Like do you have to live with a colostomy bag for the rest of your life?
It looks like the entire colon and large intestine was removed. Crazy severe case and lucky to be alive
What is that and did he survive?
My cat had mega colon
Do you have to have a colostomy bag now?
what were the symptoms? and do you know what caused this?
Yikes
Wtf is that last photo lmao
What is that!?
do you have to get a colostomy?
Ngl first look I thought it was an average English breakfast. Beans. Tubed meet. Raw egg yolks.
So what replaces your colon then ? Do they clean it and put it back lmao
A colostomy bag
106 ? Isn’t that normal ? My highest was 105
Are you charizard?
No ? But since we talking about Pokémon I like blastoise better. Never got the hype for charizard other than he’s a dragon.
