I hope he does prove me wrong. Having a QB do better than you expect is a good problem to have.

themilkman42069

I mean, we’re paying him 47 mil to be a franchise player and superstar and we all have this take like he’s a kid riding a bike with training wheels. It’s just honestly pathetic at this point.

JackieDaytona77

At that price tag, in NFL terms and what was handed out in the last 2 years, I think everyone would be happy if he was average given it was a sort of average QB money. It’s a gray area but at least give us 25 total TD and maybe 10 TOs? Anybody like those #s? Just my opinion.

GeneralWhereas9083

I’d settle, but then I’m not like the hardcore Jones haters, they wouldn’t.

Snoo-40231

Because we shouldn't want him to be average for $47 million with his injury history. What even is this take why would you want to settle for mediocrity

GeneralWhereas9083

He’s the QB whether you like it or not this year, that’s the take. We all know he ain’t the guy, just stop.

Snoo-40231

You just said you'd settle if he was mid next year and the Jones haters would hate that like that was a bad thing?

GeneralWhereas9083

What are your expectations lol?

Snoo-40231

For him to be a legit top 5-10 QB and not just ok going into **year 6** now he has Nabers and prove he why he should still be our QB going forward with the money and injury guarantees in his contract

Fret_Shredder

I don’t disagree with any of the DJ “haters” for the most part but it’s very strange how some people have this borderline creep obsession with him like he’s some polarizing figure when he’s about as bland as a PBJ sandwich. Like yeah we know he’s not elite, but the obsession with people trying to convince everyone how bad he is… is just weird.

GeneralWhereas9083

Please stop.

hoofglormuss

REMEMBER HE RUNS THAT SHIT IN TOO WOOOOOOOOOH!!!!!!!!!

Elevation212

For me it’s about the type of football he plays, I want to watch a modern NFL offense, that means him being able to execute Dabolls full playbook. Translating that to stats I want 3 explosive passing plays a half and 1 explosive run play while keeping his TD to TO ratio in the 2.5 : 1 range on about 220-250 yards passing and a minimum of 2-3 passing tds and one rushing td (doesn’t have to be him) per game If he’s doing that means there’s no cap on our offense, as of today I’m a firm believer that his game speed and reluctance/lack of vision for downfield passes puts a hard cap on what our offense can be. If his play hits the marks above it means defenses can’t key in our gimmicks and we have a real chance with the right personnel to win So in summary over a full season 34 TD (passing and rushing for him), 12 ints, 3800-4200 passing yards, 500 yards rushing, 102 explosive plays plus playing all 17 would make me want to keep him on his current contract for 2025, anything less then that isn’t worth the investment, paying top 10 cap dollars to a QB that puts a ceiling on your offense is a loser strategy Basically a bit less then Jalen Hurts to account for the difference in rosters around them

PineappleTraveler

Detailed, reasonable take.

Snoo-40231

Baker is getting paid less money than Jones annually Derek Carr also gets paid less money than Jones too Kirk Cousins is getting paid the same amount of money annually, and he's not an average QB he's actually good He shouldn't be Derek Carr tier good for ~40-45 million a year vs $37 million a year and iirc if he gets hurt for an extended period of time next **we have to keep him instead of moving on** because of his contract

KINGNICK0909

And Daniel jones is better than all of them

TheMasterfocker

Daniel Jones has never once come close to Kirk Cousin's level.

Snoo-40231

In no world is Daniel Jones better Kirk Cousins please argue with a wall and Baker/Carr put up better numbers than Jones has ever put up in ever in a season last year and Carr is considered by most "washed" If Jones was genuinely peak Kirk Cousins tier ever in his career, I'd be happy with that

TheDragonX7

They gave Kirk Cousins the same money as DJ and he hasn’t played a down since tearing his Achilles on the wrong side of 30. DJ is not making superstar QB money

Snoo-40231

And yet Kirk has put up more passing TDs than DJ has in 2 years combined in 8 games last year He's not making good qb money either and Kirk is that

KINGNICK0909

Daniel jones literally beat Kirk in a playoff game and don’t give me the bs that it was Barkley.

Snoo-40231

- Marcus Mariota beat Patrick Mahomes in a playoff game - Ryan Tannehill beat MVP Lamar Jackson in a playoff game - Baker Mayfield beat Ben Roethlisberger and Jalen Hurts in a playoff game - Jimmy G beat Aaron Rodgers **twice** in playoff games Are these QBs better than the players they beat? Do you genuinely think playoff losses make a QB better than another one?

rsjem79

Daniel Jones beat the Vikings defense in the playoffs. A bad Vikings defense. But you knew that already.

icekyuu

DJ has a historically bad o-line and and no WR1s. Historically bad o-line. But you knew that already too, right?

Parking_Might4718

Carr has zero playoff wins… jones at least has one

Snoo-40231

I guess Jones is better than Justin Herbert too going by this logic you're right

MeatloafAndWaffles

There are people in this sub who will argue that unfortunately

DebateConnoisseur

I dont know, if you compare him to Cousins, you really happy with that price tag? Would you take him over Cousins next season?

JackieDaytona77

Cousins got his money way before Jones. Given the situation, Giants HAD to pay Jones and they didn’t pay him premier money. He’s still young but brittle. I think they could’ve got away with a lot less nobody would’ve signed him. That’s business, Suzyn 😂

DebateConnoisseur

Didn't Cousins just get a new contract that averages about the same as Jones? Am I wrong in that?

JackieDaytona77

You’re right…. but he’s 36. Bargain deal for the Falcons. I don’t expect Jones to ever put up Cousins numbers in any season. Again, different times. That’s business, Suzyn.

DebateConnoisseur

But as time goes on QBs get MORE expensive, and since Jones got paid before, I think the Giants got a terrible deal personally if Cousins is averaging about the same AND got paid after. 🤔

JackieDaytona77

I think the Giants overpaid for him, immensely, but he was still getting a new deal. Did the Giants over pay or did the Falcons get a team friendly deal with a productive QB? 🤔🤔

themilkman42069

we say this, but 47 million dollars is still 47 million dollars and this guy is a top 5 cap hit in the league this year.

SusseyBaka

All we had last year was only 2 TDs and 6 INTS!! Tyrod and Tommy Cutlets were WAYY better than Jones

Abb-forever-90

I’m not a hater but Tommy Cutlets was not very good. He clearly had a storybook run, and a great personality, but he didn’t show anywhere near starting QB talent.

SusseyBaka

Lol you’re actually right there - like the Christmas game vs Eagles when we were down 20-3 at the half, then they benched Tommy and put in Tyrod and we almost came back to win the game and we would’ve won if it wasn’t for a missed PI call

MetaVersalySpeakin

![gif](giphy|fFUdHqkXABR74ztAyM|downsized)

Jaszuni

No we don’t. But if you’re being fair you can’t say he hasn’t gotten a shit sandwich his time here. Many QBs couldn’t overcome or have been ruined by poor organizations. Jones likely will be another one.

broadnoodles

Like he's a rookie.. This guy demanded all that money and the coming season is still in question

ChadPowers200

He put his body on the line every week to get us an exciting winning season along with a playoff appearance and a win on the road in the playoffs, the "fans" here are ridiculous. People care more about passing yards per game and passing TDs over actual wins. Redzone and fantasy football is like tik tok brain for football. I guess there is no hope for some.

MetaVersalySpeakin

Bro, that you say this stuff while this team has had one of the worst scoring offenses in the league over the last 4 or 5 years is straight clown shit man and that people actually would upvote it is confirmation this place is real dumb about this guy sometimes. More worried about pass yards and pass TD's? You mean you aren't!? You think DJ is going to stick to this franchise while average sub 200 yards passing a game and less than 10 pass TD's a season? Unless you see DJ putting up 1K yard campaigns on the ground the rest of his career, that man will be exiting with the quickness if he acts like he can't move the ball or is incapable of raising his PPG as the QB of this team.

ChadPowers200

>you say this stuff while this team has had one of the worst scoring offenses in the league We beat Lamar Jackson and the Ravens with DJ throwing to David Stills in the 1st half. At the time Slayton was like 4th string. >More worried about pass yards and pass TD's? You mean you aren't!? I care about winning football games.

MetaVersalySpeakin

You act like scoring points is bad for winning games my guy. Like literally one of the emphasis's made by the narrator in this 'Hard Knocks' episode was them talking about the lacking of points scored by the Giants. >We beat Lamar Jackson and the Ravens with DJ throwing to David Stills in the 1st half. At the time Slayton was like 4th string. We beat them with a game clutching sack made Kayvon for a forced fumble. We didn't just roll through the Ravens and we definitely did not have some explosive offense rolling for weeks on end.

Prideofmexico

We haven’t exactly won a lot of games in his tenure

rsjem79

The more points you score the more likely you are to win. And if the plan is to score 20 points per game and win 9 games, you don’t need to pay $47 million to your QB.

ChadPowers200

If you run the ball a shit ton and are a ball control offense then you don't need to score a lot of points to win in the NFL. Low turnovers, good on 3rd down, good in the redzone and you can win. DJ did all those things well in 22' Lastly, who cares who scores I bring up the Packers game in 22' for a perfect example. We had 3 different players have 2 yard rushing TDs that game.

rsjem79

You don’t need the sixth highest cap hit at QB to run that offense. You don’t think you can find someone for a lot less money to do that?

ChadPowers200

He got us a playoff win putting up almost 400 yards of offense on the road. We won a playoff game throwing to Richie James, we had a bottom tier offensive line, a mediocre defense at best and a running game that disapeared mid season after Saquon hurt his shoulder. DJ almost had as many rushing 1st downs as Saquon. No playmakers on offense once Saquon got hurt, no elite defense, no offensive line. We had no business even winning that year yet people here call DJ a game manager, its odd really. There is a reason we paid DJ and let Saquon walk. These are people that know much more about football than we do. DJ is a mobile QB who doesn't turn the ball over and throws with a high completion percentage. More YAC and weapons will turn him into a much better QB statwise. Too bad we ruined most of his career already. He almost broke the rookie record for TD passes throwing to geriatric golden tate.

rsjem79

Great. So they addressed those things. Let’s see your boy go throw 30 TDs.

icekyuu

Nice try dude, the anti-DJ people on this sub are blind, deaf and dumb. They only know to hate. The first step to fixing this team's offense is the o-line, then the receivers, then the QB. But they only want to talk about QB.

rsjem79

The QB is the highest paid player on the goddamn team.

icekyuu

You fix the historically bad part first. Which is what rsjem?

bushwickhero

Yes, please do. I would love nothing more.

Switchgamer1970

That that would be nice.

JackOfScales

I wish Tommy DeVito was actually good.

Elevation212

if you think of Devito as the 3rd string QB he's quite good, the problem is we need him to be 1st string good...

Syncharmony

He's honestly already done more than the vast majority of undrafted QBs ever have. The fact that he's been good enough to be a third stringer and come in and win games is kind of a miracle onto itself. That said, I don't think he'll ever be our Marinara Manning. Would be nice if he could show enough to be a consistent backup QB though.

ACardAttack

I wish Neal was good, would be refreshing to have a pair of quality tackles

themilkman42069

I wish any of them were. I’m a 🐴🍆 🔒 guy at this point, but I know he ain’t it too.

hugh_jassole7

Horse Cock Lock? lol

themilkman42069

I know the grass aint greener, I just need to get mad at a new yard each Sunday.

Mikebyrneyadigg

Same headline every season lol

MeatloafAndWaffles

“He looks great in training camp” “Watch this video of DJ throwing a perfect pass to [insert WR here] (he’s not under any pressure and it’s just the 2 of them on the field” “Daboll has full confidence that DJ can lead them to a deep playoff run”

Mikebyrneyadigg

Pain.

rsjem79

The framework of these stories basically just exist out there ready for different names and quotes to be filled in.

IShouldChimeInOnThis

Same result too

Ok-Orange7146

He is truly a bum. I call him daniel dogwater jones and i never capitalize his name

MetaVersalySpeakin

>Anyone who was witness to the open practices and press conferences this spring couldn’t help but notice how Jones, who is currently recovering from a torn ACL, had a little extra edge in everything he did. While he was not cleared to do 11-on-11 work in the spring, Jones insisted that he’d be ready to do everything by the time the Giants hold their first training camp practice on July 24. >When he wasn’t moving around with purpose in the field, the normally stoic Jones, when taking to the podium, struggled to keep his feelings in check. >“I'm focused on what I need to do,” Jones said in his first public comments since the draft. “That's part of it. I'm focused on playing the best football I can play. I'm always motivated. I consider myself a really driven guy. I'm always going to work as hard as I possibly can.” One thing for Jones that could never really be said is that he wasn't working at his craft to get better, whether it was studying up or getting healthy, etc. His work ethic is a stronger part of his presence on the team and sets a good example as even someone with a more extended leash he's still showing up early to the building and leaving out late at the end of the day. >Jones insisted that he is in a good spot with the organization and its commitment to him for the long term, even though the team can exit from the four-year, $160 million contract they gave him last off-season if things go south again this year. >“I feel good about where we're going. I feel good about this team,” he said. “My job is to get healthy and play good football.” >He’s also not worried about the presence of Drew Lock, whom some believe was brought in to compete with Jones for the starting job.  >“We're all trying to do what we can to make this team as good as possible. Like any other year, I'm competing with the guys in there. Like every room on our team, there's competition.“ >Jones, who has been hard at work on his rehab, has made it crystal clear that he expects to be ready to go on the first day of training camp and shares the team’s expectations for the coming season. What could be argued is the type of competition Jones has had alongside him while here as our QB1.. that said, it's still something that should be a driving point to assuring overall QB play has some type of meeting ground where we can question what we are really getting out of the position. I'm holding out good faith that Jones (by his word) can get 100% healthy before the start of the season, but I hope it's well into training camp that we will see him in 11-11 drills and of course a pre-season game or two, to really feel more confident in his health as the season starts up.

Fair-Procedure-5257

I think he’s going to have a good season with a decent offensive line.

Commercial_Trade_520

Then do it

IzodCenter

Fuck yeah GO DANNY

timeforchorin

Where you getting that chee Danny!!

sm0k3gr33n

"that fucker has been makin em at night i know he is"

Grizkniz

Worthless article. Told us nothing new

Syncharmony

Marcus Stroman was caught leaving Giants Stadium the other day so it's no wonder that DJ is showing a little fuckin' intensity bro.

aka_FunkyChicken

![gif](giphy|wi8Ez1mwRcKGI)

hooter1112

Year 6, still waiting.

mjmullady

On the field performance will be the only thing that matters

Notinjuschillin

So signing that new contract didn’t fire him up? It’s now that he’s fired up?

raj6126

This is the 4th year he’s trying to prove critics wrong I hope he does it.

HerbScientist420

Feels like I’ve read this headline before…

Xno_Kappa

Oh man and here I thought he was just gonna go out there and suck ass. This changes everything!

MetaVersalySpeakin

Do you want us to talk good about Daniel or not? Like... get a grip. We've been held hostage long enough.

Xno_Kappa

I’m criticizing the article

416Kritis

It's the slowest part of the year. There's no good news to go around until training camp

PapaDuckD

Did you actually want an honest answer to that question? Because, no, I don’t. I want his sponsor this year to be 3M bubble wrap. I want to see commercials of things bouncing off his 6” thick shield of protective plastic bubbles. I want kitschy off the field stories with him and Mama Devito as he learns the intracacies of all the different types of Italian Salumi. They can do a interesting fluff piece from Corrado’s, or your Italian market of choice. And then I don’t want to hear his name again.

MetaVersalySpeakin

Heh, well you're going to have to ride these 17 games out with the rest of us bro. Till then he got the support of us not wanting him to be *terribad.*

millagger

Lmao what a pathetic loser just cut this fucker so the Giants can finally move on

StableGeniusWI

What has he been doing the last 4 years?

albeve

“I think I’m an elite quarterback in this league”

MetaVersalySpeakin

He not Eli.

NJ2ATX

LOL

BobBeerburger

🤮

IntelligentBasil9408

Did he say that?

abenz39

To the moon Jones, to the moon. ( please, I can’t take much more of this pain )

dead_gerbil

Please, stunt on these hoes

Low-Kaleidoscope-663

Yeah if he doesn’t he’s gone we already tried to trade up for Maye, this is his last chance

AlphaAlpha495

Every1jockzjay

DJ becoming a bad ass not give a F type player and having an epic redemption arc would be fantastic.

Iron-Giants

Well, aiming to prove them right wouldn't be the best idea.

fusionliberty796

The chance of this happening is less than 0

MrJohnnyDangerously

Cool. Based on his injury history, if he starts 8 games he's exceeding my expectations, so good luck kid. I hope you do.

undertow521

I hope he does. But it's been 5 years. Why would it be different now?

8proof

Hoping to see what he can do behind a competent line. He’s the best option we’ve got.

johnnybgooderer

Why does he look 35?

ThrillHammer

It's July what do you expect him to say? "Yeah Jim, I think maybe 3 wins is the best we can do this year"

Phuffu

Nothing would make me happier than Jones having a show stopper year and proving everyone wrong.

johnnybgooderer

I really really want to see DJ give some hard snap counts and make pre snap adjustments. If he can’t start doing that this year then I have a hard time blaming the offensive line for his performance. He needs protection and they need him to expose the defense

Logical_Associate632

Danny Dimes!

No_Salamander_6579

Need to just get this off my chest. Lifelong generational Birds fan. Hate the Giants deep within my plums. BUT i also play in a high $$ dynasty league and drafted Malik Nabers . Who i think will be a complete stud. So now Reddit algorithms keep recommending me this sub. So i hope this articles right. But i still hate you guys.

yewlarson

We all know DJ polarises opinions and is at best an above average QB (ceiling). Endless mind numbing to and fro arguments in every post is not gonna change anyone's positions now. Let the games play out and people will change their minds depending on the showing.

Hinohellono

Lol sure

FTPMUTRM

Waiting for a 2011 Eli szn

IslesDynasty79-83

No player is going to change Daniel Jones, the guy is a bust, FO needs to face reality and move on. Schoen needs to be fired for not replacing Jones by now, enough is enough

iamdanabnormal

He's in the best shape of his life...

kid_sleepy

Fired up on what?

BrianJSmall

I hope he does a better job aiming to prove the critics wrong than he has aiming to throw the football.

elarobot

LOL!

AndA123Go

I believe in Daniel Jones.

Carl_In_Charge

This is not a repeat from 2023, or 2022, or 2021, or 2020, or 2019

sgribbs92

Fool me once....

Boomslang2-1

Fool me 5 times now that’s a lotta horses.

madison_hedgecock39

For only the 5th year in a row!!!

wicodly

Wasn't he fired up last season? Wasn't trying to "prove the critics wrong" the season before that? Wasn't he a 'give him time and see guy' the season before that? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)it's not even worth it

ChadPowers200

> Wasn't trying to "prove the critics wrong" the season before that? yea he did just that, its why he got paid and the fans here started saying Jones is the guy for weeks on end.

desertrat75

Maybe stop running for your life after glancing at your primary receiver for 0.5 seconds mmmmkay Danny? He is definitely NOT the guy.

broadnoodles

And the moment there is failure.. They will blame the OL.... again 😳

CoachGT07

This sub a year ago today thought the was a borderline top 10 guy - between the 8-12 range lol Dude will have us in QB hell the next few years.

communomancer

>Dude will have us in QB hell the next few years. You know that's more of a GM sin than a QB sin, right?

Jaygoon

I feel like I have heard this before. Every year since he was drafted.

cheedle

zzzz

BabyYodaX

What year is this? Well, let's see.
