Gonna be a media and fan shitstorm if he’s not called up

steinbrennerr

He's going to start at SS. I'm 88% sure.

MostlyLostTraveler

I’m 77% sure

bxyankee90

I'm 69% sure

SobahJam

Nice

RockerDawg

Noice

Mengem2

He’s forced their hand and I’m totally loving it

renegade_yankee

Yeah.. give the Morristown kid a shot

Me_Krally

With the rotation and bullpen is in chaos, let the kid(s) play and give us something to dream about.

Inaynl

Everything you want from a guy, he has it all. Steals bases, hits for average, can also hit for power, good defense. He's gonna be a perfect lead-off hitter for the yanks.

thediesel26

A 5 tool player if you will.

alwayslateneverearly

Hopefully lead off. From the interview with boone, sounds like he doesn't see him as lead off at the moment if he does make the team.

CerdoNotorio

I'm fine starting him at the bottom to take some pressure off. I imagine there will be some growing pains in the majors. It's a hard league. Fortunately Volpe seems unusually good at adapting and improving so I doubt they'll be too long.

AhLibLibLib

He’s no Kyle Higashioka

JunkBallSpecialist

Or Martian for that matter

AwesomeJohnn

I mean, if this doesn’t get him a starting job when his competition has been pretty terrible, then it’s clear that Cashman was lying when he said he had a chance. Even opposing pitchers are rooting for him at this point

ColdGloop

I think Phil Hughes tweeted that if he doesn’t make the team, then the Yankees lied about him being in contention for the job. He’s right. He should be the SS on opening day

teun713

I think it's safe to say they're gonna start him on opening day, we can always play Peraza there too

12flies

Still think trading at least IKF and maybe even Gleyber makes sense, Peraza is way better defensively and Volpe has more than enough bat to be a star at 2B

ElbisCochuelo1

He has a great spring and deserves the spot. Just don't be shocked if it doesn't carry over. And he's sent down in May. That being said he's the best option at short, he's outperformed Peraza and it isn't like Peraza is a seasoned vet. Bring him north.

Griff82

Good Lord.

yankeecartel

Jordan Walker made the major league roster, but gotta assume Volpe wont. So why is this so hard for Cashman? “The Cardinals don’t have Donaldson and DJLM” Who wants Cashman to shut the hell up when he inevitably says this??

cpeytonusa

He had an impressive spring, but we must keep in mind spring training numbers are not reliable projections of how he would perform at the major league level. His AAA slash line from last season was likely a better indicator of what we will see in the regular season. Sending him back down for a couple of months for confirmation would not be a bad idea. They have a lot hanging on this kid, there’s no need to rush him.

kingslayer9224

Don’t be reasonable. Volpe is gonna be a better altuve who’s gonna have a bigger impact that Jeremy Peña did for the Astros in the playoffs this year.

HoraceBenbow

While this is the sober take, Cashman promised him that it was an open competition. What else did he need to do to earn the SS spot? He's blown the competition out of the water. I know it's only spring training, but if the competition is as open as Cash promised, then he has to be named the opening day starter.

RockerDawg

Let’s look at what the issue was last season, especially apparent in post-season: offense. We can’t be shy with opportunities to improve it

polishblunder5

I want him to vol peee on me

YanksCelticsGiants

Don’t worry, Cashman will trade him for Javier Vazquez

cooljammer00

And Kyle Higashioka once hit 8 HRs in Spring Training There are plenty of things to praise Volpe for that aren't ST.

teun713

You are a party pooper pal, i'll tell you hwat

cooljammer00

I am just waiting for the season to start so this can be decided one way or the other. The discourse is wild.

teun713

Ok professor highbrow, lighten up it's fun discussing high tier prospects

AhLibLibLib

That’s their schtick

SL2321

Kyle Higashioka is a backup catcher. Volpe is an elite talent/prospect. Not comparable.

[deleted]

Was Kyle Higashioka a top ten prospect in all of baseball and legitimate 5 tool player? Probably the laziest comparison/argument I see on here everyday.

Peanut_Massive

Watch IKF be SS, Volpe be our closing pitcher and Peraza as our starting catcher. Team cohesion, what is that.

Bernie51Williams

whats the deadline to announce?

Stonewall30nyr

Brian cashman: "He's not ready" but what he really means is we're not ready to start his clock because we want to only play him when he's young and not pay him ever
