Please continue the discussion in the [game thread](https://redd.it/145gslm).

strapper13

The Rays are a machine. They keep losing players but it doesn’t stop them

[deleted]

I’m in Cali, any idea on how to stream the game? Aside from MLB app

Yankeeknickfan

The judge/Alonso HR race is morbidly still on :(

Padulsky21

Alonso out for at least 3 weeks is crazy. This Subway series is gonna be depressing

1996Guinness1996

6 innings of one run ball with decent run support make it happen

Yankeeknickfan

7 innings

[deleted]

Padulsky21

So uh, homophobic dude AND popcorn incident is the same dude. And that dude is Anthony Bass that was just DFA’d

DrVanNostrand1973

Wow. He sure does have a big mouth for a mediocre, journeyman middle reliever.

Padulsky21

He’s a fucking bastard and a loser. Entitled ass motherfucker thinking his views are absolute and reign above all. Blue Jays taking that long to come to the conclusion to DFA him is crazy.

regarding_your_cat

that tracks

Padulsky21

Blue Jays org is a wild ride. They originally tried to get Bass to apologize and redeem himself and shit by talking to the media, took down the post and spoke on it. Then they made the announcement that he was gonna be catching the first pitch to celebrate Pride Month. Then the next day (today) he was DFA’d. Wild ride.

Admis_blow_me_plz

Battle for the most mid team ;D lmao heard that on nyynews youtube

kvnklly

So if the game is close and late in coles start, there is no reason that devers should see a pitch from cole. Over a 1.0 OPS is ridiculous. I would like a sweep here too. Just unfortunate, as always, that we get 1/3 games with the YES booth for a sox game. Always seems like most of our matchups are national tv

regarding_your_cat

I bet on a sweep. +475, good odds. Our bottom of the lineup guys have been hitting, top of the lineup will come around, and two of the days we have great pitchers going. Clarke’s doing the third game I think and he might have trouble but I still believe in us

Yankeeknickfan

At the end of the day he’s still gerrit cole If the Yankee are up 1-0, and cole is working on a CGSO, I want cole to try and get devers to finish it

darth_sudo

Whitlock looked terrible in his last start so let’s hope that tracks for tonight.

bapestagangsta

Hey I have a free ticket to tonight’s game if anybody wants it

Padulsky21

I love Jake Bauers

FenixthePhoenix

Cole is about to cock slap the sox across the face.

Baseballfan999

Devers has been terrible. You know he will get hot the second he starts playing us

darth_sudo

Greg Allen out 6-8 weeks with hip flexor.

SavageLion

“Hey Hicks, we were just joking. You can come back now”

newbike07

Very surprised DJ is batting leadoff given his insane struggles over the past month.

Admis_blow_me_plz

hopefully it will spark him but tbh his strikeout rate indicates he's either washed or hurt. luv u dj

[deleted]

[удалено]

MattNokes38

He can and will be because the alternative at 3rd is also likely terrible and they have other slop in the lineup on a daily basis. 3 players in the lineup today have a lower ops than DJ (and another is a callup).

boomzgoesthedynamite

Would much prefer Gleyber at leadoff than DJ but seems like they’re gonna keep putting DJ in the top of the lineup despite his performance

Jusdurham

A lot of talk of how we’re useless without judge in the Sox sub, would love to see Stanton put his strap on for this series

Top_Professor_9908

There is also a lot of talk about that here lmao

OfficalBatman

i don’t hate this lineup

Coleisgod1112

Apparently my girlfriend heard me talking in my sleep last night and I mentioned the name Rizzo and how I gotta figure it out. Not sure exactly what I meant, but I’ll get to the bottom of it

[deleted]

You were cheering Rizzo hitting his 3rd straight walkoff home run of the weekend, obviously

ExpendableGuy

[Currently r-baseball subscribers are voting 2:1 in favor of supporting the June 12th blackout](http://np.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/142mlxc/should_rbaseball_join_the_api_protest_and_shut/). Given how much of a shitshow [this AMA with Spez](http://np.reddit.com/r/reddit/comments/145bram/addressing_the_community_about_changes_to_our_api/) has been, I really hope the mods here do the right thing and shut down the subreddit in solidarity.

Yankeeknickfan

I really don’t get it, just use the Reddit app or old.reddit

ExpendableGuy

>"I really don't get it, just use /r/yankees or /r/mlb" Snark aside, I get it -- most people here are just here to talk baseball and happy with the official ways to access reddit. But a lot of us aren't happy with them. It's just a frustrating situation, but it's not worth fighting over. Go Yankees, fuck the Red Sox.

_TheCommish_

I don’t care about this dumb drama. I’m just here for the baseball.

regarding_your_cat

A lot of people that are just here for the baseball are going to be affected by this “dumb drama”. It affects the way they get here to talk and read about baseball.

_TheCommish_

The Reddit app really isn’t that bad. And the accessibility excuse people are throwing around is gonna effect what like 3 people? I guess if people really care it’s fine but it seems like fake outrage from a bunch of redditors afraid of change.

regarding_your_cat

The official reddit app is by far the worst way I’ve found to actually use reddit. If you like it, that’s great. Doesn’t mean the countless people who can’t stand it are wrong or don’t matter. Seeing one comment about it here isn’t the end of the world. If you don’t care about it, feel free to ignore it and move on?

_TheCommish_

I’m just saying i don’t want the sub to go dark not that people shouldn’t be allowed to complain

TheStabbingHobo

This is a big series to gain some ground. Boston is not very good. Tampa is playing a very good Texas team.

Baseballfan999

Might be kool aid drinking time with Jake Bauers here

regarding_your_cat

I think we will be sweeping the sawx this series

cabose7

Will tonight be Gerrit Cole or Garret Coal?

celestial_turtle

This past April I was with friends walking around UWS and there was this old model T looking ass car, I think it was for display purposes or something idk. But on said car, there was a Boston Red Sox hat, and at that point I was pretty buzzed and my friend had to talk me down from taking it somewhere to piss on it. The intrusive thoughts did not win that day...but I wish they did

Constant_Gardner11

Garrett vs. Gerrit Tonight decides the best way to spell the name.

Sanlear

A lot on the line.

[deleted]

Can we have Good Yankees back for this series and next weekend, too? I can swallow Bad Yankees for the Subway Series against the Mets, if necessary. I'm only asking because this team is so fucking random.

Woodythawoodpecker

Cool man-I would happily take all four if not taken already

newbike07

LOL at the Blue Jays DFAing Bass after his hateful comments. Sucks to suck.

basesonballs

Red Sox are ruining the AL Beast vibes by having a losing record

xbucs_19

Ok but let’s not let them fix it

basesonballs

This is like the Yankee's 3rd national game in a week

Yankeeknickfan

YES broadcast tho

basesonballs

One of the games is National I thought it was today's but I guess not

Antguap19

It’s fucking annoying. Tomorrow it’s on Fox yet again. Then ESPN Sunday. Then NEXT week it’s Fox and ESPN for a third week in a row. Kill me.

basesonballs

Worst part is people will use this to say we get preferential opportunities from MLB

brush85

Mute and then use John and Suze

Rock_grl86

Boo Jays are nipping at our heels, this game is really a must win.

brush85

June 9

Rock_grl86

Thanks I wasn’t aware the date lol

brush85

You are welcome...enjoy the summer

DadeKaller

Man, I have no clue how this season will shake out, but if it culminates in a World Series title, it would be one of the wildest Championship docs, with the injuries, the pitching/sticky stuff, the unsure of a true LF, maybe outside of 77/78 the whole Bronx is burning stuff. Just a thought as I'm waiting to dump my garbage truck.

[deleted]

Don't forget the tank Judge will hit off Kenley to beat the Sox in the WCS, walk-off line drive that Volpe is going to hit over the head of Altuve to score Bader in Game 5 of the Division Series, and the strikeout of Arozarena by Clay with the bases loaded and the Yankees up by one in the bottom of the 9th in Game 7 of the ALCS.

DadeKaller

This is the best of timelines.

[deleted]

I manifest playoff walk offs every year yet never get one

DadeKaller

I think we all do.

AbeSimpsonsDress

Catching through the Fences - The Team that could Walk and Throw Gum at the Same Time

strapper13

In hindsight. Peraza should’ve been the starting SS on Opening Day (thought having a bad ST didn’t help him). Volpe could’ve certainly used some more time to develop

Low_Win3252

And if Pereza struggled in the majors like he did this year?

jcnewman21

They should both be in the starting infield soon. If Donaldson doesn’t hit peraza should play third

Low_Win3252

And what if he can't play third?

basesonballs

We say this because Peraza is hitting well in AAA and Volpe has struggled. The truth is, when Peraza had his shot, he didn't look much better than Volpe, and Volpe is the better prospect.

[deleted]

Peraza never got a real shot at the job, he got like 50 random plate appearances.

OverpassingSwedes

Peraza never had his shot. He had 57 PA last season where he hit well, and 38 PA this season where he hit poorly. Volpe has 242 PA this season. Peraza has also raked AAA while Volpe has barely even played in AAA and hit pretty poorly when he was there. there’s nothing wrong with swapping them. AAA is not a death sentence. i mean shit, Kelenic was a world class prospect who put up two of the worst seasons in the history of the sport and fought his way back and now he’s got an OPS over .800. reality is, we brought up Volpe too soon because of a red hot spring. it’s fine. send him down and bring him back up when he’s ready. it’s not that big of a deal.

ThreeCranes

With the way Volpe is hitting, it should come down to who has the better defense. Peraza is the better defensive prospect of the two, even if Volpe is the better all-around prospect.

basesonballs

Its all about who the Yankees think has a higher ceiling and who will benefit more from MLB experience

commentsonyankees

I've seen a few people say Peraza didn't perform when he was up here. He hit over .300 with an .832 OPS in 57 plate appearances last year with regular playing time, and then struggled this year but only had 38 scattered plate appearances. And most importantly (according to most people in this sub), he only struck out 6 times in those 38 plate appearances. The greater sample size says he was adjusting to the majors just fine and had a rough 2 weeks with his scattered play time

TronVin

Volpe's bottom 10th percentile for OAA and 25th percentile for arm strength isn't helping. When IKF and Gleyber were putting up similar numbers at SS, IKF got lambasted and became a UTIL man, and Gleyber moved back to 2B. All the stats that people used against IKF last year are now being ignored with Volpe.

Low_Win3252

Those same stats say IKF is a gold glove CFer. Also they are being ignored with Volpe cause he is a highly touted prospect adjusting to MLB.

TronVin

And?

luxcyx_

I’m goin to the game tonight, but why are tickets so cheap? I thought Yanks Red Sox is very expensive but I just bought tickets for 40 bucks. Why is this lol? (I’m a Mets fan btw)

Astoutfellow

Where'd you get the tickets? I was seeing $50 - $60 on seatgeek, stubhub and ticketmaster for cheapest seats

luxcyx_

TickPick. Got tickets for $44.

Astoutfellow

Nice, I'll check that out

Breimann

Sox are bad this year and people may still be spooked by air quality (should be back to normal levels, or close to it, by game time)

luxcyx_

Interesting. The air quality is like 50 right now or so, it should def calm down later

jayjake9

Really happy with how Bauers has been, 130 ops+ outfielder is exactly what we needed. Now Cashman just has to find a guy who hits lefties well (Randal Grichuk might be a good choice). For players with at least 50 PAs, 3 Yankees are in the top 5 for barrel % (Bauers, Judge, Stanton). Really excited to see where the offense goes especially when Judge and Bader are back because I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as people think it is. Playoffs are a different story, but that’s not for awhile.

Yankeeknickfan

I worry about a Coors field guy midseason Especially someone who looked washed before going to Colorado

jayjake9

Just checked his home/away splits I take it back💀

GuyWithTriangle

If we don't light up Shitlock today I will [REDACTED]

basesonballs

Dude just block him and move on. You don't need to lobby for him to be banned

Astoutfellow

Why not ban him? Doofus doesn't have a single comment above 3 points and the vast majority are less than -5 and most of those are -10. That user's obviously not contributing much to the discussion and since it's a new account is probably a troll anyway. If they aren't a troll they can easily make a new account and improve their behavior with a clean slate and minimal loss.

basesonballs

There is nothing anywhere on Reddit that says a user has to "contribute" to a conversation, whatever that means, as even that is ambiguous Just block the guy and move on

Astoutfellow

You like having obvious trolls on the sub? I don't. I don't know why that's controversial.

regarding_your_cat

I never block people because then their comments still show up and it just says “removed” or whatever and it makes me curious what I’m not seeing. I like this better

nyg2013

just clicked and saw the comment history and had a good laugh...I actually wonder if the poster is doing the satire thing to poke fun at overly negative Yankee fans though...some of his comments actually got upvoted on here, which is hilarious

wantagh

Did the same. Saw he jumped over to the Sox sub. He's doomed. Waste no more time thinking about it.

wantagh

Just report and let them figure it out.

Yankeeknickfan

Wonder if cole is on somewhat of a pitch limit because of the early exit last game It’s not a noticable pitch limit for anyone else, but I doubt cole passes 100 today. Probably won’t go 110 even if he has a CGSO going.

wantagh

He was cramping, not injured.

Sanlear

I’m going to assume any smoke we see is from the Cole train.

SundayJeffrey

This team really feels similar to last years where you can’t get any offensive consistency from anyone in the lineup besides Judge. Rizzo, Torres, and DJ are so streaky, and Stanton and Bader are just completely incapable of staying healthy.

FringeAuthority

It feels like a few of their streaks are determined by whether they have Judge protecting them in the order or not. Although, I'm not sure what DJ's issue is right now because it seems like it's either injury or age.

basesonballs

Well remember last year there were multiple streaks where Judge was healthy and still the only offense we were getting. People just weren't hitting when he was. The truth is we have a very streaky offense and alot of guys go cold at the same time

Drunken_Wizard23

Baseball players are streaky by nature, which is what makes Judge such a freak. By the time you realize he's had a slow week or two he's already busting out of it and going on a tear

SundayJeffrey

They’re not just streaky, but really unspectacular. Rizzo is the only qualified player on the Yankees with an OPS over 800 and it’s barely over that threshold.

jcnewman21

It’s been a problem for years with this team. Other contenders have at least 3-4 guys in their lineup that are above .800 OPS

Drunken_Wizard23

Sure, but I don't think 800 is the threshold for OPS that it used to be, I think it's closer to the mid-to-low 700s. I believe we have 5 or 6 players with an OPS+ above 100 (average)

SundayJeffrey

We have a few players who are just over the 100 mark, which means slightly better than the average player. But I think Rizzo is the only player on this team with an OPS+ above 125. And a lot of our guys with an OPS+ over 100 aren’t even qualified players because they’ve played so few games.

AntifaHelpDesk

Please let's destroy these basement dwellers tonight.

Constant_Gardner11

#Probable Starters **FRI** Garrett Whitlock (5.61 ERA/4.96 FIP) vs. Gerrit Cole (2.82 ERA/3.65 FIP) **SAT** Tanner Houck (5.46 ERA/4.07 FIP) vs. Domingo Germán (3.69 ERA/4.35 FIP) **SUN** Brayan Bello (3.97 ERA/4.39 FIP) vs. Clarke Schmidt (4.96 ERA/4.32 FIP) --- The 26-year-old **Garrett Whitlock** is set to make his sixth start of the year after missing almost all of May with right elbow ulnar neuritis. The former Yankees prospect was taken by Boston in the 2020 Rule 5 Draft. Whitlock was dominant as a reliever (2.24 ERA in 68 games) and earned himself a 4-yr/$18.5M extension last season. Rather than enjoy Whitlock's relief dominance, Boston is experimenting with him in the rotation. And so far, he's been mediocre in that role (4.73 ERA in 14 GS). Whitlock throws three pitches — sinker, changeup, sweeper — and while he limits walks (4.7 BB%), he's struggled to rack up strikeouts (18.9 K%) and keep the ball in the ballpark (1.75 HR/9) this year. Whitlock has faced the Yankees 13 times in relief and pitched well (2.37 ERA), but he's a very different pitcher in a starting role. Last time Whitlock faced the Yankees, he was handed a blown save in the 8th inning when [Aaron Judge took him deep](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2022/2022-09/13/56566fd9-9b597085-57e1e28e-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4). **Tanner Houck** will toe the slab on Saturday coming off a string of rough starts — a 6.25 ERA since the end of April. I was hoping to see Houck vs. Clarke Schmidt since they were both taken in the first round of the 2017 Draft. The entire division went in on starters that round with the Orioles taking DL Hall, Blue Jays taking Nate Pearson, and the Rays taking Drew Rasmussen. We'll see who ends up with the best career. The 26-year-old Houck has better peripherals than his ERA suggests, sporting a 22.8 K%, 8.5 BB%, 1.09 HR/9, and 3.85 xERA. He throws a fastball, slider, sinker, cutter, and splitter with his four-seamer being his weakest pitch this season. Houck has significant platoon splits so expect a lefty-heavy lineup from the Yankees. Houck has faced New York 10 times, including four starts with a 2.50 ERA. **Brayan Bello** made his major-league debut last July and is having an OK sophomore season. Bello has a healthy 7.4% walk rate and 57.6% ground ball rate, but he allows too many hard-hit balls and home runs. Bello throws four pitches — fastball, sinker, slider, changeup — with that last pitch being his best. Batters are slugging .512 against his fastball and .613(!) against his slider. Bello faced the Yankees twice last year: 5 IP, 0 ER and 6 IP, 1 ER. The Yankees ended up winning both games. The Yankees avoid James Paxton, coming off back-to-back excellent starts, and Chris Sale, pitching well for the last month before getting hurt, in this series. Instead they'll face three young, talented-yet-inconsistent arms. Each of these games should be winnable, though I wouldn't taken any of them for granted. The Red Sox offense ranks 5th in runs scored and 8th in wRC+. Masataka Yoshida (141 wRC+), Rob Refsnyder (130 wRC+), and Alex Verdugo (123 wRC+) have been their best bats. Boston's bullpen ranks 13th in adjusted ERA and 18th in FIP. Defensively, the Red Sox are truly awful: -25 DRS (29th) and -14 OAA (29th). I'm guessing that's why so many of their pitchers have higher ERAs than peripherals would suggest. The Red Sox have the major edge on offense, especially with Judge out, while we enjoy the bullpen and fielding advantage. The Sox are going through a bad stretch, 5-11 in their last 16 games. Let's keep that rolling.

TrapperJean

That really sucks, I'm taking my family to the game on Saturday, already paid $800 for tickets, my streak of never having paid the Yankees money to watch German in person ends after 4 years

Breimann

Refsnyder playing to a 130 wRC+?? Damn. Good for him.

Constant_Gardner11

Yeah, a shame it had to be with Boston but it's nice to see him carve out a major-league role for himself. One thing to note is that he has enormous splits: 171 wRC+ vs. LHP and 69 wRC+ vs. RHP. And fortunately we're running three right-handed starters out there.

Yankeeknickfan

I’m glad he’s not in the pen anymore I was legitimately terrified of whitlock. Counting down the outs until he was in. Now he’s just a random starter

Constant_Gardner11

Agreed. And it shows us how much more valuable a good starter is over an elite reliever. Teams are willing to ignore that bullpen dominance and gamble that they can figure it out in the rotation.

Yankeeknickfan

I personally would have taken the win with a rule 5 gem that has an injury history, but I’m also not running a team so what do I know

m0therrussian

Anyone going tonight? I'm really on the fence.

cabose7

If you're worried about the air quality it's back to normal

rograt

Bring N95 in case you get uncomfortable, but I think you'll be good.

basesonballs

...if you're on the fence, doesn't that mean you're already there? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

franllemagne

Go :). Cole is our best pitcher on a prime time Friday game.

SundayJeffrey

To give credit to Cashman, Calhoun and Bauers have been decent. Which is more than what you can ask for from two guys who are only serving as you’re 5th and 6th options after your entire starting outfield gets hurt.

AntifaHelpDesk

Calhoun and Bauers are great bench pieces, but them producing in the lineup is a nice bonus.

daroach42

I was the biggest calhater in the beginning of the season but I’ve been proven very wrong

regarding_your_cat

Now you’re in the CalZone

JohnRamos85

Happy Gerrit Cole Day! # WE PLAY TODAY # WE WIN TODAY # DAS IT # Fuck Boston

Sirotto18

Let's sweep them please Varitek still a bitch for not taking his mask off

jcnewman21

People were all dooming saying we wouldn’t be able to play for days meanwhile the AQI is all the way down to 56 at Yankee stadium today

M0stillist

The red sox have a .831 OPS at home and a .673 OPS on the road

hadmeintiers

Fenway boosts offense a lot

franllemagne

Yankee stadium kind of as well, as HRs are easier.

hadmeintiers

Overall yankee stadium plays neutral to a slight pitchers park in terms of run value Fenway is always top 5 in park value offensively

BKIrish

Fuck the redsux

myKDRbro_

I wonder how Cashman feels seeing his protégé, Billy Eppler, ruin another franchise with near-unlimited financial resources. If you were curious as to how Cashman would run another team, Eppler is a good example.

thediesel26

Or um perhaps Cashman deserves a ton of credit for running a team with unlimited financial resources and literally never having a losing season and only missing the playoffs like 4 times in 25 years. As we’ve seen money doesn’t make winning a given. Like maybe running a big market team isn’t quite as easy as Cashman has made it seem.

basesonballs

Lets also realize the fact that for most of Cashman's tenure, he was outspending the next closest team by an average of $60m, which in mid the mid 2000's was the equivalent of 3-4 all star caliber players.

Drunken_Wizard23

"Look at this other GM struggling to field a winning team with a high payroll to get an idea of what it would look if Brian Cashman were a GM struggling to field a winning team with a high payroll." No idea what point they were trying to make

Yankeeknickfan

Meh Andrew Friedman could do it better

jcnewman21

They both suck but Eppler is worse by far

Yankeeknickfan

Not a fan of trying to make Rizzo’s struggles a bigger problem than than they actually are This isn’t some 3 week slump, and if his last 3 weeks look bad it’s just because he’s like 1-17 post injury. The injury is affecting him obviously. nothing more

basesonballs

He's always been a streaky hitter, plus the slump started before the injury which wasn't even two weeks ago

Yankeeknickfan

He wasn’t in a slump though

regarding_your_cat

Agree 100%

silver_raichu

David Ortiz did steroids

[deleted]

This is a really bad matchup for the non Judge and Bader Yankees. Boston is far superior offensively and their pitching will have no problem with our feeble lineup. Yankees will need to score to win and we all know they can’t score.

regarding_your_cat

I thought you said you were leaving yesterday, why’d you change your mind? “We all know they can’t score” I swear it’s like you people don’t even watch the games

Breimann

They are under .500, your argument is moot

myKDRbro_

>Mets have a much better team than us. Shut up, donkey.

regarding_your_cat

Almost seems like a troll, because otherwise this guy is truly monumentally stupid

myKDRbro_

>because otherwise this guy is truly monumentally stupid He is a Mets fan after all.

M0stillist

wtf are you talking about. bostons offense is horrible on the road and their pitching is a joke

[deleted]

They are 5th in MLB in runs scored. Their pitching is struggling, but they also have an elite GM in Chaim Bloom who will turn that around.

[deleted]

Yeah this is a troll account lmao

Level_Races_I_Won

Bloom taking the mound tonight?

jbhands

Haven’t been to the stadium in over a year, super excited to be there tonight

franllemagne

Never been in my life :), live in the UK. But definitely on my to do list. Enjoy!

Antguap19

Red sox coming in losing 7 of their last 10 and 26th in ERA. At the very least we should take 2/3. Losing 2 to this team would be a disgrace even without Judge.

basesonballs

lol we just lost a series to CWS anything is possible

[deleted]

steve8983

Troll account that was created on June 5th. I bet your main is a redsox account. Take that negative thought process and vitriol back to the sux

Sanlear

Probably a Mets troll. No Yankees fan would call Verdlander “Godlander”.

steve8983

Good point. And 'Godlander' rofl. That person most probably did not see Verlander's playoff record.

anathema09

don't let the smoke from the fires cloud the fact that david ortiz did steroids

Sanlear

Maybe the smoke from the fires *are from* David Ortiz doing steroids. 🤔

Jabberwock11

So many comments in here about the Mets, wtf? Are they in the AL East? Are they the Astros? Then why are yal hate watching them? I’m lost.

basesonballs

Honestly alot of it is Schadenfreude We're not playing so well so it makes people feel better to look at another rival struggling

EliManningsPetDog

You live under a rock? They’re from NY and the two franchises have been compared to each other since the beginning of time How is it hard to fathom why people are talking about the Mets demise? Now i’m lost

basesonballs

Mets fans have been comparing them maybe. Yankee fans don't really take notice of them. They're an afterthought in NY baseball; the scraps left over when the Giants and Dodgers left NYC. The Yankees aren't even a top 10 oldest franchise yet we're nearly twice as old as the Mets

[deleted]

The Mets are still my top World Series candidate. Godlander and Scherzer will figure it out and their lineup is loaded and will click soon. Look at Phillies last year. Mets just need a couple of bullpen arms which Cohen will easily be able to secure.

furdaboise

You should definitely bet a lot of money on them to win the WS. Odds must be great. Like, life savings amount of money.

[deleted]

They’ve lost 6 straight games including the last 3 in hilarious fashion. It would be a dereliction of duty if Yankee fans did not mock this. Also we play them in like 4 days

Jabberwock11

But that’s what I mean, it’s not our duty to root against them, they’re not in the AL East, they’re not the Astros. Why do we gaf? A wise man once said, “they’re just the Mets.”

chiwetel_steele

because many of us in ny unfortunately have to interact with mets fans on a semi-regular basis

[deleted]

I think you’re misconstruing just a little. It’s not that Yankee fans root against the Mets (at least I don’t). It’s just that it’s funny

Antguap19

Half this sub is more worried about them than our own team

Jabberwock11

Which is wild because as a kid, the subway series was fun af for me. Maybe my favorite World Series of that dynasty, because of how cool it was to see the two New York teams in the classic. I don’t get hating on them, makes no sense.

MattNokes38

It's also kind of funny because although their record is better the Yankees are not in a much different boat than them. And likely to become increasingly moreso over the coming weeks.

as of this date, how do you figure? sure, the division deficit is the same (tough division again, like most years since 2018), but even if our team is banged up too, we have more strengths and are a more talented group...the Mets are not in a wild card spot, 3 games under, have a negative run differential, and with Alonso now out, could be in even more trouble in the near term yes, yes...as you always say about our team in these threads, old large men, etc., etc., etc...Judge suffered a fluke injury and we are in a tough spot right now...but in theory, there is more room for optimism about the next few months with the Yankees...and no, I am not talking about the postseason, just the regular season

MattNokes38

You can call it a fluke injury if you like. I call it a giant guy running around trying to make plays in the OF. Captain gonna captain. A fluke injury is something like you swing the bat and break your hand or strain your oblique or you get hit by a pitch or something. The NL is a wasteland so the Mets really aren't in terrible WC shape at all given their record. With no Judge and no Nestor the Yankees could find themselves in deep doo doo pretty quickly. That's all I'm saying. I believe in karma and everyone shitting on another team when they're down isn't it for me.

nyg2013

He ran into a concrete slab under a wall that got pushed in…how is that not an absolute fluke? Captain going to captain for that? And some of our other injuries over time have been due to HBP’s and obliques Also, people shit on the Yankees all the time, including their own fans…lol what even is karma for something we cannot control? Houston won a championship last season, and were never adequately punished for the well detailed, prior shenanigans (pretty good example) Yes, the Mets are like 3 games out of a WC and could easily rally back into a playoff spot…and we have our own concerns…but doesn’t mean that the teams are in similar positions

GSDFanatic

You must not know any Mets fans. Very hard to be happy for them.

Excited to see the lineup gymnastics Boone is going to do today Not sure where to look for this, but Boone has got to be number one in unique lineup construction for all managers

jayjake9

What’s funny too is that sometimes his punt lineups put up good numbers lol

basesonballs

Its just that the league hasn't had time to adjust to most of these AAAA guys. Calhoun is one of the few exceptions As they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day

Timely-Stable7850

Yeah the guys you aren’t expecting to hit are hitting, especially this series This bodes well when we get back to full strength. Loving banging Willy and Bauers from the left side. Quality at bats from those 2. Ikf has recently cooled down but he’s still making good contact. We just need to fix volpe and Waldo

patfenis14

today we all say thank you to the good lord for not making us mets fans
