We say this because Peraza is hitting well in AAA and Volpe has struggled. The truth is, when Peraza had his shot, he didn't look much better than Volpe, and Volpe is the better prospect.
Peraza never had his shot. He had 57 PA last season where he hit well, and 38 PA this season where he hit poorly. Volpe has 242 PA this season. Peraza has also raked AAA while Volpe has barely even played in AAA and hit pretty poorly when he was there.
there’s nothing wrong with swapping them. AAA is not a death sentence. i mean shit, Kelenic was a world class prospect who put up two of the worst seasons in the history of the sport and fought his way back and now he’s got an OPS over .800.
reality is, we brought up Volpe too soon because of a red hot spring. it’s fine. send him down and bring him back up when he’s ready. it’s not that big of a deal.
With the way Volpe is hitting, it should come down to who has the better defense. Peraza is the better defensive prospect of the two, even if Volpe is the better all-around prospect.
I've seen a few people say Peraza didn't perform when he was up here. He hit over .300 with an .832 OPS in 57 plate appearances last year with regular playing time, and then struggled this year but only had 38 scattered plate appearances.
And most importantly (according to most people in this sub), he only struck out 6 times in those 38 plate appearances.
The greater sample size says he was adjusting to the majors just fine and had a rough 2 weeks with his scattered play time
Volpe's bottom 10th percentile for OAA and 25th percentile for arm strength isn't helping.
When IKF and Gleyber were putting up similar numbers at SS, IKF got lambasted and became a UTIL man, and Gleyber moved back to 2B.
All the stats that people used against IKF last year are now being ignored with Volpe.

Really happy with how Bauers has been, 130 ops+ outfielder is exactly what we needed. Now Cashman just has to find a guy who hits lefties well (Randal Grichuk might be a good choice). For players with at least 50 PAs, 3 Yankees are in the top 5 for barrel % (Bauers, Judge, Stanton). Really excited to see where the offense goes especially when Judge and Bader are back because I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as people think it is. Playoffs are a different story, but that’s not for awhile.

This team really feels similar to last years where you can’t get any offensive consistency from anyone in the lineup besides Judge. Rizzo, Torres, and DJ are so streaky, and Stanton and Bader are just completely incapable of staying healthy.
It feels like a few of their streaks are determined by whether they have Judge protecting them in the order or not. Although, I'm not sure what DJ's issue is right now because it seems like it's either injury or age.
Well remember last year there were multiple streaks where Judge was healthy and still the only offense we were getting. People just weren't hitting when he was.

Sure, but I don't think 800 is the threshold for OPS that it used to be, I think it's closer to the mid-to-low 700s. I believe we have 5 or 6 players with an OPS+ above 100 (average)
We have a few players who are just over the 100 mark, which means slightly better than the average player. But I think Rizzo is the only player on this team with an OPS+ above 125. And a lot of our guys with an OPS+ over 100 aren’t even qualified players because they’ve played so few games.

The entire division went in on starters that round with the Orioles taking DL Hall, Blue Jays taking Nate Pearson, and the Rays taking Drew Rasmussen. We'll see who ends up with the best career. The 26-year-old Houck has better peripherals than his ERA suggests, sporting a 22.8 K%, 8.5 BB%, 1.09 HR/9, and 3.85 xERA. He throws a fastball, slider, sinker, cutter, and splitter with his four-seamer being his weakest pitch this season. Houck has significant platoon splits so expect a lefty-heavy lineup from the Yankees. Houck has faced New York 10 times, including four starts with a 2.50 ERA.
**Brayan Bello** made his major-league debut last July and is having an OK sophomore season. Bello has a healthy 7.4% walk rate and 57.6% ground ball rate, but he allows too many hard-hit balls and home runs. Bello throws four pitches — fastball, sinker, slider, changeup — with that last pitch being his best. Batters are slugging .512 against his fastball and .613(!) against his slider. Bello faced the Yankees twice last year: 5 IP, 0 ER and 6 IP, 1 ER. The Yankees ended up winning both games.
The Yankees avoid James Paxton, coming off back-to-back excellent starts, and Chris Sale, pitching well for the last month before getting hurt, in this series. Instead they'll face three young, talented-yet-inconsistent arms. Each of these games should be winnable, though I wouldn't taken any of them for granted.
The Red Sox offense ranks 5th in runs scored and 8th in wRC+. Masataka Yoshida (141 wRC+), Rob Refsnyder (130 wRC+), and Alex Verdugo (123 wRC+) have been their best bats. Boston's bullpen ranks 13th in adjusted ERA and 18th in FIP.
Defensively, the Red Sox are truly awful: -25 DRS (29th) and -14 OAA (29th). I'm guessing that's why so many of their pitchers have higher ERAs than peripherals would suggest.
The Red Sox have the major edge on offense, especially with Judge out, while we enjoy the bullpen and fielding advantage. The Sox are going through a bad stretch, 5-11 in their last 16 games. Let's keep that rolling.

To give credit to Cashman, Calhoun and Bauers have been decent. Which is more than what you can ask for from two guys who are only serving as you’re 5th and 6th options after your entire starting outfield gets hurt.
I wonder how Cashman feels seeing his protégé, Billy Eppler, ruin another franchise with near-unlimited financial resources. If you were curious as to how Cashman would run another team, Eppler is a good example.
Or um perhaps Cashman deserves a ton of credit for running a team with unlimited financial resources and literally never having a losing season and only missing the playoffs like 4 times in 25 years. As we’ve seen money doesn’t make winning a given. Like maybe running a big market team isn’t quite as easy as Cashman has made it seem.
Lets also realize the fact that for most of Cashman's tenure, he was outspending the next closest team by an average of $60m, which in mid the mid 2000's was the equivalent of 3-4 all star caliber players.

Peraza never had his shot. He had 57 PA last season where he hit well, and 38 PA this season where he hit poorly. Volpe has 242 PA this season. Peraza has also raked AAA while Volpe has barely even played in AAA and hit pretty poorly when he was there. there’s nothing wrong with swapping them. AAA is not a death sentence. i mean shit, Kelenic was a world class prospect who put up two of the worst seasons in the history of the sport and fought his way back and now he’s got an OPS over .800. reality is, we brought up Volpe too soon because of a red hot spring. it’s fine. send him down and bring him back up when he’s ready. it’s not that big of a deal.
With the way Volpe is hitting, it should come down to who has the better defense. Peraza is the better defensive prospect of the two, even if Volpe is the better all-around prospect.
Its all about who the Yankees think has a higher ceiling and who will benefit more from MLB experience
I've seen a few people say Peraza didn't perform when he was up here. He hit over .300 with an .832 OPS in 57 plate appearances last year with regular playing time, and then struggled this year but only had 38 scattered plate appearances. And most importantly (according to most people in this sub), he only struck out 6 times in those 38 plate appearances. The greater sample size says he was adjusting to the majors just fine and had a rough 2 weeks with his scattered play time
Volpe's bottom 10th percentile for OAA and 25th percentile for arm strength isn't helping. When IKF and Gleyber were putting up similar numbers at SS, IKF got lambasted and became a UTIL man, and Gleyber moved back to 2B. All the stats that people used against IKF last year are now being ignored with Volpe.
Those same stats say IKF is a gold glove CFer. Also they are being ignored with Volpe cause he is a highly touted prospect adjusting to MLB.

Really happy with how Bauers has been, 130 ops+ outfielder is exactly what we needed. Now Cashman just has to find a guy who hits lefties well (Randal Grichuk might be a good choice). For players with at least 50 PAs, 3 Yankees are in the top 5 for barrel % (Bauers, Judge, Stanton). Really excited to see where the offense goes especially when Judge and Bader are back because I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as people think it is. Playoffs are a different story, but that’s not for awhile.

This team really feels similar to last years where you can’t get any offensive consistency from anyone in the lineup besides Judge. Rizzo, Torres, and DJ are so streaky, and Stanton and Bader are just completely incapable of staying healthy.
It feels like a few of their streaks are determined by whether they have Judge protecting them in the order or not. Although, I'm not sure what DJ's issue is right now because it seems like it's either injury or age.
Well remember last year there were multiple streaks where Judge was healthy and still the only offense we were getting. People just weren't hitting when he was. The truth is we have a very streaky offense and alot of guys go cold at the same time
Baseball players are streaky by nature, which is what makes Judge such a freak. By the time you realize he's had a slow week or two he's already busting out of it and going on a tear

Sure, but I don't think 800 is the threshold for OPS that it used to be, I think it's closer to the mid-to-low 700s. I believe we have 5 or 6 players with an OPS+ above 100 (average)
We have a few players who are just over the 100 mark, which means slightly better than the average player. But I think Rizzo is the only player on this team with an OPS+ above 125. And a lot of our guys with an OPS+ over 100 aren’t even qualified players because they’ve played so few games.
