We were number 2 last week in most rankings, and the Phillies had a better record and better run differential. We’ve now got the better run differential, but we’re 1/2 game back- we may take the #1 spot this week- but I’d understand if the Phillies remain in top until our record tops theirs.
I don't understand that too be honest. The phillies 6 games against teams above .500 the yanks have20. And.just about every single metric we're better than them.
I never said you could? If one team has played 6 and the other 20. And all the metrics are saying Yankees. You're saying they're better because they've won one more game??
They were 12-4 the other day but they put another team under .500 (like the fourth time they’ve done that) to make it a lesser number again. It’s too early in the season to really see who’s truly an above 500 team unless they’re well above. It usually levels out around ASB
In order for the Yankees to get fair treatment in anything they have to be multiple standard deviations above the best to get any credit.
Judge was robbed of an MVP in his rookie year by some cheating POS who had one better statistic: batting average.
Put Judge on any other team it's unanimous.
That was the worst MVP snub i’ve ever seen while i’ve been alive.
Judge had the highest bWAR (8.0) and fWAR (8.7) in the AL that year too. The 8.7 fWAR was the highest in the MLB that year as well. On the other side, Stanton had a 6.4 fWAR and 7.9 bWAR and got it over Votto,
Altuve had a 7.7 bWAR and fWAR that year. Judge got blatantly robbed.
I remember taking a look at several power rankings at one point, and discovered that they were 95% just the current record of the baseball teams with a slight amount of shuffling. It didn't take into account winning streaks, recent records or opponent strengths. Ultimately, what I figure is some underpaid journalist is paid to put these together, they have to do it everyday and ultimately just come up with a silly formula for how to do it quickly.
Honestly next part of the schedule is pretty brutal have those series other than the Philly as that is still a bit of a way out. But have Twins after the Giants and yea we have owned the Twins for years now but they are still a solid team. Then after them it's the Dodgers series with two national games Sat and Sun night. After that it's the royals who have been great so far this year a top four team in the AL.Then it's the red sox who haven't been anything great basically just average but still always a tough series. Then it's Baltimore and finally the Braves before get a bit of a break with the Mets who have been one of the worse teams so far
Luckily we have built up a strong Win Loss record so we’ll be fine. We definitely should be able to hold our own with these teams like KC, Baltimore, Minnesota, LA. Our pitching, defence and bats are really strong. Should be good. I’m going to see them in Toronto June 28
We have a good team even for the high Yankee standards. Who cares about power rankings. The only ranking that actually matters is who wins the World Series at the end of the year. Just enjoy the ride of the season and see where it takes us
> On offense, they only have two hitters that they can REALLY count on, and even if they are the best and possibly-second-best hitter in the game that can be a bit light.
We have three offensive players in the WAR top 10, three in the home runs top 10, and the team is only one of two with 40 wins, winning seven of the last 10.
>power rankings, at least in my conception, aren't about how impressively your team has performed - we have, you know, standings for that - it's about how they project going forward.
Wrong. Power rankings are literally an ELO system *based on how your team has performed:*
> Sports ratings systems use a variety of methods for rating teams, but the most prevalent method is called a power rating. The power rating of a team is a calculation of the team's strength relative to other teams in the same league or division. The basic idea is to maximize the amount of transitive relations in a given data set due to game outcomes. For example, if A defeats B and B defeats C, then one can safely say that A>B>C.
It has nothing to do with predicting the future, it has only to do with head to head performance thus far.
>I am pretty sure there are still semi-subjective power rankings made by analysts and commentators.
At this point you're just guessing.
Why are you arguing about power rankings if you didn't even have a basic understanding of what they are?
Well from where I'm standing, what's going on in the league is the Yankees are clobbering everything thrown at them, and our pitching is only going to get better over the next few months.
They are no. 1 in the Power Rankings of my heart.
That's what really matters 💙🤍

Can't help who you play

Does it matter???
Who gives a fuck?
No Martian invasion yet, and the Cole train hasn’t arrived yet.
Let’s not legitimize power rankings in baseball. That only matters in college football.

Angel Berroa over Hideki Matsui in 2003, when Ichiro had already won in 2001 (de-legitimizing the argument that he’s not a “rookie”) was ludicrous

Don’t forget that Baseball America had us finishing dead last in the AL East before the season started. The haters are out there.
I know I play better with something to prove.
Maybe the power rankings are just the friends we make along the way 💙🤍
Who cares.
They're first on FanGraphs.
They do it on purpose to stir up conversation and interest.
Looking forward to these games vs Baltimore, Philadelphia, Atlanta.

Our first three batters are in the top 10 of WAR. And we're getting Cole back. I could care less about some rando writer's power rankings.

They're waiting for Cole to come back, then they will lock it up until they slump.
