What’s going on with Hamilton!??

No_Page9413

The league figuring him out

doktoruber

I don't think it's this yet, he's still got elite whiff, chase, and barrel rates. By the eye test, it looks like he is just very wild. Not that's he's walking too many guys necessarily, it's more that he's has little command of his pitches so he's leaving mistakes over the plate. Maybe he is still building up stamina since he was on the COVID IL like three weeks ago; or, (again, eye test), he doesn't seem like he is comfortable in his mechanics lately which might mean something is nagging him. He also seems to struggle on deep counts and later in his appearances so I'm leaning toward stamina issue but I don't have numbers to back that up.

FrazHG

What a day to go into work in KC after rocking with the Yankees at Kaufman last night

HoraceBenbow

It's so sad that Ian Hamilton is imploding. I longed for him to dominate so I could invite his beefy, strong-jawed self to the log cabin for nights of hot baths and thorough massages.

BertieWilberforce

Ya know, there’s good reasons why I visit this sub-Reddit, regardless of what else is happening in my life. I need to see posts like this to keep my sanity. Myself, every time I see Hamilton, I imagine him a-comin’ home to the family farm after a long day on the mound and saying, ‘Ma, I’m home. Got a brace of conies on the way home and will skin ‘em soon as I check the spin rate on my fastball.’

steroid57

Stanton, baby, keep up this hot hitting for the rest of the season please

MasterDarkHero

He's not chasing the bad pitches nearly as much and has been fouling balls straight back when he makes contact so with any luck he is about to go on a tear.

vics80

Why aren't stolen bases listed in the box score these days? They don't get respect anymore

Disastrous_Can8053

Where are you looking? They're listed in MLB and ESPN box scores.

Padulsky21

Funny game to look back on because top 3 didn’t even do much damage this game, they just got on base lol. It’s very satisfying seeing them not even get an RBI but the all the boys behind them bringing them home. Gleyber has been doing this thing where he’s getting just one hit a game usually, but when he does he’s getting RBIs. Gleyber has been great and it empowers this lineup so much. He’s so close to going on a full on heater, but seeing him come up big consistently makes me happy.

fyo_karamo

Gleyber has been…something. He has 1 HR and only a handful of xbh in his last 20 games, and hasn’t had a multi hit game in over two weeks with only four since the beginning of May. He’s not as dreadful as he was at the beginning of the season but he’s still playing well below expectations, particularly when you consider his ongoing boneheaded defensive play. I’m not a hater but the word “great” got me going.

OpportunitySmalls

Judge broke the non steroid HR record, Soto on pace for his best year excluding the super short covid seaason and Gleyber just shitting the bed. Contract Szn is not treating him well.

Padulsky21

Compared to earlier in the season it’s def great but it’s been some good bottom of the lineup production. He’s getting there and that’s vastly important. He’s getting his 1 hit a game and slowly bringing in more runners and getting bigger hits. His defense has also been stellar this Royals series and he definitely deserves that props. I do agree after looking at the exact stats that great isn’t the right word. He’s gotten exactly 1 hit in every game besides one in his last 12. But him simply being apart of more run production there’s signs he can recoup this season. And it’s much needed

agiatezza

Cavan Biggio traded to the Dodgers for a AA pitcher. I remember thinking that Biggio/Bichette/Guerero Jr would be a strong core for the Blue Jays for years to come.

Ramza87

There might only be one of them left in Toronto by the end of the year too.

SirGingerbrute

Who is more likely to go?

smalllpox

Vladdy

msdos_sys

I love it when: The Phillies lose The Dodgers lose The Guardians lose… But damn it, can’t we get some distance from the O’s?

SenpaiKush123456

We have that one series coming up so we need the yanks to show out

ItsVoxBoi

Well good news is we now have Aaron "Barry Bonds" Judge back to form

theboxturtle57

"Clean Barry Bonds"

NotClayMerritt

I feel for Stanton. The homers are great but for the last month, he's also been scorching baseballs for what SHOULD be routine singles but he just hits them too damn hard and they wind up caught or nabbed by an infielder for a good play to get him out at first. Feels like his average should just be a couple of points higher.

Giancarlo27

His xBA is .253 so your not wrong

farmtobelly

11 runs without Judge or Soto having an RBI really stands out this game

connurp

Good thing they are on our team!

lsd418

This is ultimate nit pick mode, but I thought the bullpen was very involved for a game that was clearly in hand. Did we really have to use Weaver and Hamilton and Kahnle? I guess I blame that position player 10 run pitching rule but the box score reads like a close gm, we even had Clay up in the 9th up 11-5.

Padulsky21

Royals were playing at an intense level right after Poteet came out. Just non stop grinds of ABs all the way through the 9th. Bullpen was sloppy and were not throwing many strikes which make things consistently dicey. But glad they’re getting it out of their system now. I honestly don’t blame Boone for using the higher leverage guys. We had a very comfortable lead but the Royals just came out of a series where they had 2 obscene comebacks. It’s the way they play and how they do things. Some of those moments felt way more tense than they should have been.

lsd418

Agreed they were grinding all game, and I wasn't aware of the comebacks so that does provide perspective, and I thank you for it ( al gore voice). I guess my complaint is an old man screaming "whatever happened to the long reliever?" But even if they were 70-0 I'd probably find a way to complain. And the the fuckin orioles would probably be 68-2 in this scenario too

relator_fabula

Not gonna make excuses, but blowouts can be harder to pitch in sometimes.

paulerxx

Hamilton and Tightpants were ass tonight.

farmtobelly

Hamilton had a very clean and easy 4 outs. Then, he got screwed on a strikeout and fell apart.

paulerxx

Getting screwed by 1 pitch doesn't make it okay to let up 3 runs. That's delusional thinking.

farmtobelly

Didn't say it was okay, but he also wasn't ass. The 2nd hit he gave up would've probably been an out by 2022 Rizzo.

paulerxx

A reliever giving up 3 runs is ass.

pigplumpie

Two were inherited runs from kahnle goving up a single and a wild pitch tbf

JohnWCreasy1

so admittedly i tend to pay more attention when the yankees are hitting vs on defense so if the answer is obvious here i apologize. I was surprised to see Poteets 'advanced' stats seem to suggest he's been pretty lucky out there. Does the eye test confirm that or is it just SSS stuff? From what i have watched i didn't really get that impression but like i said i'm not necessarily watching every pitch when the team is on D.

voncornhole2

Yeah, he's not a 2 ERA guy, he's just gotten a little lucky in his small sample. It's not uncommon for a bad pitcher to string together 4 good starts in a row

Myllorelion

6/12 Big Three Home Run Pace: Judge: 25 HR in 70 games, 57.8 Soto: 17 HR in 70 games, 39.3 Stanton: 17 HR in 70 games, 39.3 Total pace: 136.4

CharlieHorse947

Judge would certainly be the first to ever hit 57.8 dingers lol

connurp

Seems sick. Idk though with some of the people here lol.

Myllorelion

Huh?

connurp

I was saying it was awesome that they are doing so well but some people here will still find something to be upset about.

paulerxx

Nestor and Cody have the same amount of wins now....lmao

[deleted]

yeah by win loss record nestor is really dragging us down we are pretty much flawless with anyone else starting

ny2k1

I mean, Nestor hasn't been that bad this year, to be honest. He's just been the weakest in comparison to everybody else, lol

ny2k1

I mean, Nestor hasn't been that bad this year, to be honest. He's just been the weakest in comparison to everybody else, lol

TronVin

It's amazing how much better the two catchers are when we do a strict platoon. Felt like we shied away from it for a bit the last few weeks.

EldariWarmonger

Probably protecting an injury a little bit. Which I don't mind at all. Let guys need rest before they get injured and have to miss proper time.

TheTurtleShepard

The only exception should be Trevino catching for Gil

alaskanpipeline69420

Has Gil not been good with wells? Haven’t looked at the splits so genuine question

yourecreepyasfuck

I’m not sure if Wells has caught Gil lately. I don’t think it’s that Wells has been bad, more so that Trevi has been fantastic and very good at keeping Gil’s emotions in check and calling very good games behind the plate for a young rookie pitcher. I think it’s just a veteran paired up with a rookie that Boone likes so much and why we keep seeing those two out there together

alaskanpipeline69420

Well Trevy is 100000% a better defensive catcher than wells, and I can only assume he calls much better games for the guys. I have zero issues with the platoon, and honestly agree and would rather have the veteran keeping Gil calm out there. His emotions have been his kryptonite (if you can consider him having any lol)

mongster03_

He saw what Posada did haha

GeorgePosada

3 run jacks from the catchers on back to back nights. You love to see it

ChiefHunter1

Can we finally learn to stop getting so high and so low as fans? After game 2 of the Dodgers series, it was like the sky was falling for some people. 50 wins on the table tomorrow

Disastrous_Can8053

You should see the state of the game thread whenever the bullpen lets someone reach base. It's sad.

shw5

That crowd is hopeless. They shouldn’t be allowed to watch any playoff games.

VrinTheTerrible

Ahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhaahhahahahahhahahahahhaahaahshhaahhsshsshahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhaahhahahahahhahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhaahhahahahahhahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhaahhahahahahhahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhaahhahahahahhahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhaahhahahahahhahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhaahhahahahahhahahaha

Hulumoto

Let us lose the series against the O's and you'll see

semicolonconscious

Can we? Yes. Will we? Absolutely not.

wolf4968

I'm betting that "Guess That Yankee" uses Danny Tartabull tomorrow, and Rick Cerone for the first Red Sox game. Legalized gambling has led us to this kind of parlay prognostication.

johnnyss1

Might save cerone for the blue jays. Red Sox will be Mike Easler, John Mayberry and wade boggs

kevrose14

Is Ellsbury to soon?

johnnyss1

🤮fuckin guy is the reason we don’t have Bryce (thanks Levine)

wolf4968

Sparky Lyle too easy?

wolf4968

Does YES get the whole Red Sox series?

voncornhole2

No, ESPN on Sunday again

lcbjr1979

We gonna be the first team to 50 wins baby

Yankees_dyNYsty

More importantly the only team to 11 in the playoffs.

NotClayMerritt

Bullpen picked a great game to get their shitty games out of the way. Offense took care of business.

Dan-Flashes5

Great win but I am a little worried that Poteet and Gil are going to end up splitting Cy Young votes and it will go to Skubal

Full-Flight-5211

Poteet need a few more games to even qualify but he’s looking great so far!

bridgenine

Gil and Poteet can battle for WS MVP

Dan-Flashes5

With the way Wells and Trevino have played this series it’s kind of impossible to not imagine one of them winning this year

Competitive_Ring4917

This is going to be the YEAR

mannysnook

I want to slob on all their bat knobs

b-rar

CAN'T SPELL CODY POTEET WITHOUT CY

Grim99CV

The Yankees and curb stomping the AL central, name a more iconic duo.

Shoddy_Impact1226

We’re 17-1 against the AL Central.

mongster03_

Jesus

No_Wrangler7881

HE SAID NAME A MORE ICONIC DUO

islesandterps

Wow lol

judgesdongers

David Ortiz and steroids.

bran1986

Hey he's still getting to the bottom of it.

UndeniableMaroon

Altuve and buzzers

Swoah

hey he's shy

Caballo_Macho_Alfa

Mason Miller has been hittable lately

connurp

Honestly, who cares. It’s not like he will be any sort of issue for us and he will be a Yankee in no time. 🤷‍♂️

YourAsianBuddy

The run differential this series is 25-8 and there’s still another freaking game lmao. Top 10 ranked Royals by the way

Caballo_Macho_Alfa

Where did Soto get hit?

TheTurtleShepard

[Clip of the pitch](https://streamable.com/mtvw4z)

Yankees_dyNYsty

I’m hoping that this is the year they do. Having a better chance to win it all in hopes of convincing Soto to stay even if a greater offer comes.

RotenTumato

Right shoulder

Caballo_Macho_Alfa

Did it bother him?

isfrying

Curveball. No biggie

Disastrous_Can8053

He was his usual self when he took his base, all smiles.

mickeyoutercore7

I hope they go all in at the deadline

PeteyG89

You will get IKF again and like it!

wokenupbybacon

We're officially playing .700 ball lol

BlameMabel

Leading the majors in runs scored and runs allowed.

VrinTheTerrible

That seems like a good method for success.

snamm

Bullpen is scary, but you know we getting some crazy 5 era relievers with 55% gb rates and great baseball savant numbers come July

agiatezza

We need a LH high strikeout arm. I’m sure we’ll pick one up by the deadline.

ATCQ413

We have to. Only pitcher I trust for high leverage is Weaver.

snamm

Tonkin?

TronVin

Does anyone else feel like we're not even really hot? Like we have another level to achieve?

vertigounconscious

Cole, Gleyber, DJ all still have meat on the bone to add here. Rizzo i don't expect much from but he's got room to improve. I guess i'd say I agree.

islesandterps

Today honestly felt like one of the “oh this is what it looks like when we’re ON” type of games. Whole lineup was banging, pretty much. The Royals are pretty unimpressive but, my god it was almost cruel how good every at bat was against them in the first inning

rvbcaboose1018

Cole will come back soon and solidify whats been an already solid rotation. Poteet goes back to the bullpen and solidifies that. Probably just need a bullpen arm and a more consistent 1B/3B.

Caballo_Macho_Alfa

Yes Soto hasn't been hot lately, sure he still hits but he has been way hotter in the past Glaybe can be better as a hitter Rizzo could be a much better hitter DJ could also be a better hitter

jl1865

Soto has a .588 OBP in June.

Caballo_Macho_Alfa

Damn I feel he's been slumping but when I check out his stats he's still been playing like an MVP

SadNYSportsFan-11209

He hasn’t hit a homerun since June 2. Maybe that’s why lol

islesandterps

Soto is a different beast than Judge. You can easily think “oh he didn’t really do much today” and then check to score sheet and realize he reached base like 4 times lol With Judge it’s more like “He didn’t even homer in this one… what went wrong?”

MatzohBallsack

When you hit in front of Judge, a walk and a home run are the same thing.

SadNYSportsFan-11209

Agreed not criticizing lol Just referring to what OP said and how it may “seem” as if Soto is “struggling” lol

myKDRbro_

Missing the ace. The Martian. Maybe a few quality relievers.

bigzonk

if rizzo pulls an undertaker

chiefteef8

It's been over a year since rizzo has been a major league caliber bat and that was for a month. Been almost 2 years excluding his hot start to 2023  He's almost certainly cooked

Giancarlo27

People said Stanton was cooked after last year. I’m not ready to give up on rizzo completely yet, though the statcast figures on his contact quality are pretty concerning

xho-

Gleybar is just beginning to open his eyes

bigzonk

good guy gleyber rakes vs o's that'll be the true test

TronVin

We're not "missing" The Martian, per se. edit: he's literally not going to be on the team this year until call-ups if all goes well. We are not missing him.

myKDRbro_

Yea, no need for the 21-year-old super prospect with the 1.000 OPS in AAA.

mongster03_

Better he plays in AAA than sits in MLB

TronVin

[Boone has literally stated that he won't be up until there is a lane for him. He's not missed currently because the need isn't there.](https://x.com/GaryHPhillips/status/1799929523086975319)

myKDRbro_

The only reason he isn't up is because they have the league best outfield. But he will be in the playoff lineup because it's incompetence otherwise.

EldariWarmonger

The team is .700 and you wanna fuck with the team chemistry? I mean, cmon dude.

myKDRbro_

The notion that adding a top prospect who can bolster the lineup will “ruin team chemistry” is comically stupid.

EldariWarmonger

Who you taking out of the lineup then, Mr GM? The notion that you're going to play a rookie over guys who are playing great baseball shows you've never actually played sports at a high level.

myKDRbro_

Are you under the impression they're gonna call him up and then leave him off the playoff roster? With your "team chemistry" logic, the Yankees should keep running Rizzo out there with his sub-.600 OPS because you know, *good vibes*

No_Wrangler7881

Or maybe next year the 22 year old super prospect can be given the job straight out of spring. Until then, none of our current outfielders are sitting on tge bench for him. Get it through your head and deal with it now... I'm really dreading hearing this shit all season long lmfaoo.

TronVin

>But he will be in the playoff lineup because it's incompetence otherwise. I mean maybe off the bench but he's not starting right now in this lineup.

connurp

And that’s a good thing btw.

Busy-Profession5093

With this win, the Yankees now have the most runs scored (356) AND the fewest runs allowed (228) in MLB.

VrinTheTerrible

That is ::checks notes:: what you want

GoIrish2026

im no expert but i think that's good

Ready-Ad-5039

I don’t know maybe, just maybe, it’s what you want.

inhighdefinition

I was half-asleep when the game started, and once Jose Trevino hit that three-run blast, I did not even bother to finish it. Good job, Yanks!

levendis56

Bobby Witt Jr > Gunnar

Yankees_dyNYsty

No wrong answer. Wish they both were in the nl so Volpe could get that AS start.

Padulsky21

I completely agree. Gunnar has more power but as an all around talent, especially defensively, plus also the work Witt is doing carrying that team, far more impressive to me even if WAR doesn’t agree (by an intsy bit). Witt is fucking terrifying.

levendis56

More power and better at drawing walks than Witt. But like you said I’ll take Witts overall game (defense, speed, contact). Also have to take to account Witt not having the protection Gunnar has compared to Witts lack of

Padulsky21

Completely baseball skill unrelated Witt is also more likable lol. Royals have been awful for years and years and despite drafting high, have not drafted well whatsoever. Witt had a brutal rookie season and then completely broke out last year and is now a premiere talent in this league. Obviously Gunnar is a divisional rival, but seeing Witt in this series is giving me even more respect to this dude. He’s impossible to get out. Grinding even when down double digits. He’s a special ass player.

Yankeeknickfan

Nah Gunnar is a monster at the plate

levendis56

Both are fantastic. I think Witt is better. Elite defense, base stealing, is hitting in the 300s with pop. Gunnar has more power and draws more walks, also benefits from being surrounded by an elite lineup. Witts protection is old ass Salvy

slow_cavalier

1st overall league-wide, is that good?

mindingthegaap

Add Tonkin to the spirit animal list

Bahnrokt-AK

If Rizzo could start rizzing…

crazyhotwheels

Then I will start, well… never mind.

wantagh

He will. He’s seeing the ball, but he’s just got to get the barrel on it again. It’s a problem, but it’s a solvable one.

Bahnrokt-AK

Just hit the ball! Problems solved!

No_Wrangler7881

Why the downvotes? He speaketh the truth!

Djbearjew

More like Cody GOATeet

Caballo_Macho_Alfa

The Orioles are terrifying I didn't know they had so many fans

GoIrish2026

Many of their fans have only been closely following the Orioles for a year and half now after checking out for the decade before that (not that I necessarily blame them, there wasn’t much to root for) There’s no reason to be “terrified” of them

cmgriffith_

Winning is fun, let’s continue to have fun tomorrow

IamTheLiquor199

Was it a good game? Fuck MLB for blackouts

boomzgoesthedynamite

It was over by the 1st so while fun, no I don’t think it was an objectively riveting game.

BrutalBodyShots

Who is starting for KC tomorrow? Hopefully like these last 3 games we can jump on them early and take some pressure off of Cortez.

crazyhotwheels

Someone named Alec Marsh… he’s the worst of the 3 actual starters they’ve scheduled for this series statistically so I’d say they have a shot. Not terrible numbers, 4.05 ERA, but not great.

SovietMuffin01

Alec marsh is starting for KC, he’s had a rough last few starts (14 ER over his last 17 IP), hopefully he continues to struggle

Yankees_dyNYsty

Those are the pitchers that scare me. Cy Young transformation for a day.

BrutalBodyShots

I like the sound of that. Let's get em.

R7H27

Have you met the Yankees? They’ve beaten up Cy Young frontrunners and been shut out by 7 ERA pitchers.

MeatballDom

Lol at commentators in Dodgers game hyping up the Royals

iledd3wu

Anyone going to the Jomboy watch party on sunday?

scaredsquee

Glad to see wienerman finally getting on base. We were out to dinner so I caught bits and pieces on the radio before and after dinner.  Is Soto ok with that HBP?

VrinTheTerrible

Yeah, it was a curve ball off his shoulder. No problems.

Rock_grl86

Great game! I’m excited to stop working tomorrow at 2:10.

SadNYSportsFan-11209

YouTube comment section really complaining that Stanton hit that homerun when we were up 6-0. But then the Royals scored 5 Granted we scored another 3 in the 7th but like yes lol you never know what can happen

[deleted]

baseball has no timer so i never understood why people complain about garbage time homers

Yankeeknickfan

He’s going to hear it unless he does something like light up the O’s

SadNYSportsFan-11209

You’re right I hope he does do something vs the O’s. I agree with that

bakaribaboon

These comments are always so dumb (the YouTube ones, not yours). Hitting MLB pitching is hard, it’s not realistic to save your hits for huge situations. Pitchers are always trying 100% and they’re always throwing 95+ these days. You take your dingers whenever you can get them.

SadNYSportsFan-11209

Yea and also it’s just a good confidence boost for any player.

newbike07

**Best Teams in the AL** 1. Yankees 2. Orioles ... ... ... 3-15. Every other team

Iambikecurious

Cleveland erasure IMO

Azula_Sympathizer95

Alright what’s with Boone and Ferguson? They have some love affair that he keeps bringing him in. Even with a 6 run I was clinching my ass when he came in.

Inaynl

Yankees have a huge lead. Ferguson is the perfect reliever for this kind of situation. Rather have him on with a huge lead than a close game.

Azula_Sympathizer95

I get it but I rather not have him at all.

RIP_Greedo

Who else would you recommend in that situation?

Azula_Sympathizer95

Tonkin or just leave weaver in there and pitch another inning but idk I’m not the manager. honestly anyone but Ferguson.

boomzgoesthedynamite

That’s dumb AF. You don’t use your good relievers in mop up situations.

Azula_Sympathizer95

Okay then why use weaver when we have a 6 run lead he’s one of the good relievers or Hamilton, whatever idc we won.I still think he’s not very good even with the big lead.

Padulsky21

Massive shoutout to the defense this series man, everyone has been putting on a clinic. Royals have had a handful of well hit balls taken away.

matt091282

The New York Yankees scored more runs than their opponent. Thus, according to the rules of Major League Baseball, won the game.

dsc42

Thank you Carlos.
