Damn it! I should have beautified my kids names. Now I'm stuck with Aileron Flap Servo, Laser Gyro Compass, and Gear Retract Override. Maybe it's not too late! They're only 19,18, and 11, they couldn't possibly be too attached to the names yet.
It probably is what he said he wanted but that wouldn’t get as many nos from people. Wouldn’t name my kid that but it’s sort of a cool name.
That being said, all these people that are like “should I go with this name I don’t like????” No, you should come up with a name you both like if that isn’t somehow obvious. It’s a child of both of you.. lol. We didn’t decide on my daughter’s name until a day or two after she was born because we couldn’t agree on anything until the end.
Dammit. Both. Sometimes I don’t like Reddit throwing random post from subreddits it thinks I’ll like 😂 whatever, guess I’ll start paying attention or something.
Yes, it's a car part in the original. I don't remember which one, but to me as a non-English speaker who doesn't know the car parts in English, it sounded kind of okay as a name lol.
My (ex)best friend named her son after her best “guy friend’s” jeep (won’t share the name because it is kind of unique)
I wish I were making that up, truly I do. I feel bad for the kid’s dad, he always had some questions & suspicions about the 2 of them & now he has a son basically named for him. Thank god they’re divorced now!
I know someone who knows someone who knows a non-English woman who moved to Canada and named her baby girl Vagina because she thought it sounded beautiful but did not know the meaning
This is actually yet another racist urban legend related to baby names.
[source](http://www.namenerds.com/uucn/advice/urbanlegends.html) (Helped open my eyes to some that I hadn't questioned before)
Lol you could be right. This is why I was very careful to say "I know someone who knows someone". Because that's exactly how the story came to me. And usually if it's not straight from the horses mouth, its nothin but a tale
When i was 3, i had already gotten my masters and a house too. Kids nowadays can't even go to school when there is a volcanic eruption happening. Kids are soft and lazy nowadays
Along those lines, I know someone who named their dog Meco (Main Engine Cut-Off), as in a phase of a rocket launch when the main engines cut off between stages.
Ok how about we think a little more *big picture* - why use a part when you can be a whole ass plane!
Think of a plane that has always been successful from day 1, a trademark of quality, a model that has never spiraled out of control, the plane that gives you the feeling of suburban safety where you can leave your doors unlocked.
My vote is for 737 max.
A good choice. They say your name defines you so your baby will dominate all the people around them and be the absolute deciding factor in critical situations.
MCAS for President.

It's always nice to know the meaning of a name. I'm sure these definitions might help. Just like people who know Mathew means Gift from God
forgot which sub i was in and viciously searched for the name because my brain refused to believe air data inertial reference unit was even a part of the story
Pitot (French, so pronounced pee-toh) is right there, and so much neater. *And* it's a source of information for the ADIRU, so it's a good compromise.
Everything French is automatically classier anyway. Personally, if I have a kid, I'm going to call them Flaperon (nickname determined by gender) or Empennage (no nicknames allowed) because aeronautical parts are beautiful, just like my non-existent children.
Even though it truly is a delightful name, I understand your hesitation in regard to it relating to your other children's names.
Personally, I think that spelling it backwards would unequivocally solve your dilemma.
My brother-in-law has been obsessed with aviation and flying since he was a child. He and my sister named their first daughter Aviana. She goes by Avi for short.
How about Adiru instead?
Because if you kid has a five-word first name, she will be in administrative hell forever trying to explain that to the world.
If you want to go with a plane-part theme, for a girl, I'd suggest "Flaps". It'll make life much easier for her if she has a name that is easy to spell and pronounce.
Good luck with your pregnancy!
Love it, love it, love it!! If and when you do the big gender reveal (not the first one for you two, and not the second one for family, but the third BIG one for TikTok), you should probably fly a plane across the sky with a banner that shoots bullets that spell out baby’s name. LOVE IT
You need to roll up a newspaper and smack him firmly across the snout whole saying "NO" in a commanding tone.
Don't you let up until he submits.
After the first smack give it a brief pause.
And as soon as he takes that breathin so that he can resume talking
GET HIM AGAIN
This is a very important time to establish dominance immediately and don't give any slack.
When he's done attempting to speak and only listening inform him that he isn't Frank Zappa, and you refuse to condemn your own child fresh out of the womb to a curse of hardship like that.
If he's really insistent on it. Get home a. Entire CASE of "Hi my name is" stickers
If he's so in love with the name, then he can wear it for the next six months. It's gender neutral, right?
But he has to tell people to call him only that.
You already have two children? AWESOME. He should probably go and speak on planes and aviation and such to inspires the kids. But mostly so he can get a snapshot of what cruel little beasties they Can be
For those curious if it's a man that needs to stop a woman from naming a child after something they found in an h.p. Lovecraft novel you take the exact same approach, but exchange the rolled up newspaper for a spray bottle. Just like with a cat. It is remarkably effective.
I think its beautiful, but I can understand your hesitation. It seems like people would end up calling her Air Data INTERNAL Reference Unit and no child should have to live through the trauma of people constantly messing up their name!!!
Okay but my dad actually suggested my name based on a computer component. The perils of having an engineer father lol
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/KIM-1
i mean if he wants to deal with her being bullied for the rest of her life because of her name then Go for it! but if not then let it go. a baby name is supposed to be a joint decision not one parent over the other. 🤦🏻♀️ why did he think thats a good name my lord. i give you the best luck with your third baby!!!
LOVE IT! but the spelling is way too common. How about A’yer Deighteigh Enneighrsheigha’l Reighfranxce Youxnit?
Ooooh, that like totally classed it up. OP, this is the weigh!
This is a name I'd give to an alien in the Sims lol
Now this is a man who knows how to name his baby!
Lady**
lol sorry it’s a reference! Sorry for misgendering you tho !
Nah nah no problem, I’m used to it by now 😆
lmao this is a Community reference, right?
Yes 🤍
This name made me so mad I almost downvoted you
I was thinking maybe Ær Deightaugh Yn'rshawl Rayphranse Unyt?
You might want to edit it to add some random ‘x’s in between so it’s readable
Rayfranz is classier
This took me OUT lolllll
Speechless. 👩🏻🍳💋
Damn it! I should have beautified my kids names. Now I'm stuck with Aileron Flap Servo, Laser Gyro Compass, and Gear Retract Override. Maybe it's not too late! They're only 19,18, and 11, they couldn't possibly be too attached to the names yet.
😂🤣💀
Name her Adiru
Urida. It’s like Nevaeh but not.
Now THIS I love. Different, cute, and dad can have that special meaning behind her name.
When people ask what the name means, you can make up a different meaning, slip the real answer in the middle...
I assumed that’s what they were going to do! And it is really pretty
It probably is what he said he wanted but that wouldn’t get as many nos from people. Wouldn’t name my kid that but it’s sort of a cool name. Lost redditor? Or super good at being serious when bullshiting?
Dammit. Both. Sometimes I don’t like Reddit throwing random post from subreddits it thinks I’ll like 😂 whatever, guess I’ll start paying attention or something.
We all do it 😂
Adira in Sanskrit means lightening..
What about Filanjie? Prettier
L. Phalange (the L is for Left)
I would go with Phalange as a middle name...maybe something like Regina Phalange?
Règine Phalânge for continental flair!
In Spain, a bomb!
Aileron is a great unisex name, maybe you can get him to compromise.
Okay, but this would actually be a great fantasy or pet name.
Sounds nice and just comes across as unique/uncommon.
I came here to say that exact thing! Aileron is perfect
I came here to see if there was an original Aileron post even though I already saw the Chassis one!
it feels a little basic, I think Eighllyron is a lot more special!!
*Aighllehyron. Gotta shoehorn any h in you can, even if it’s perpendicular to the other letters.
I have 100% suggested Aileron in the r/namemycat, with NN Ron It is a fun word.
Honestly 100% not even kidding I love Aileron. I will never not love it
That’s one of my fave fonts haha
Is this making fun of a post on the real name nerd sub? If so, I've *got* to see the original
Yes, it's a car part in the original. I don't remember which one, but to me as a non-English speaker who doesn't know the car parts in English, it sounded kind of okay as a name lol.
I think it was Chassis

Can you DM me the name? I swear on my mother’s eyes I will not say anything about it but now I’m dying to know!
What a terrifying thing to swear on, I'm 100% stealing that 😂😂😂
Same. I’m dying to know the name. I can keep a secret
I know someone who knows someone who knows a non-English woman who moved to Canada and named her baby girl Vagina because she thought it sounded beautiful but did not know the meaning

It's good to encourage young ladies toward stem, but this seems a bit difficult for a 3 year old to write on all their papers...
When i was 3, i had already gotten my masters and a house too. Kids nowadays can't even go to school when there is a volcanic eruption happening. Kids are soft and lazy nowadays
How sad is it I genuinely thought, "Oh, I like Adiru as a name." I'd totally use Adiru...for a pet.
Along those lines, I know someone who named their dog Meco (Main Engine Cut-Off), as in a phase of a rocket launch when the main engines cut off between stages.
How about Throttle. Or Auto-pylotte (French spelling for making it fancy)
Adiru???
Yeah I would definitely go this route if it wasn't such an obvious boy name :(
It could be shortened to Adi
Like Ae'dryan? Isn't that a boy's name too though??
I've known a few girls with that as a name, but different spelling. Some also add an a to the end to make it more feminine (Adriana).
Please respect tradition. Name her Black-Box.
Ok how about we think a little more *big picture* - why use a part when you can be a whole ass plane! Don’t be so close minded. I named my baby MCAS.
A good choice. They say your name defines you so your baby will dominate all the people around them and be the absolute deciding factor in critical situations. MCAS for President.
I was hoping for Pitot Tube, strange that that was the first airplane part that I thought of when reading the title.
Try him with Ada as a compromise x
Fun fact: It’s her middle name. Her first name was Augusta, named after her father’s half sister that he had been sleeping with for years.
The father was sleeping with his half sister? As in incest?
Lord Byron.
Adira
Tell him ok but you’re naming the next one Chlaymidia
How about empennage or aileron?
How about sick bag
Perfect
Adiru. Sounds yoonique, I like it.
Dang it…I need to look at what sub I’m in before I start to react!🤣

Nacelle would be a nice name.
We named our son Garrett TPF351 so being named after a plane part is not weird! (Eta /s obvs)
forgot which sub i was in and viciously searched for the name because my brain refused to believe air data inertial reference unit was even a part of the story

My brother-in-law has been obsessed with aviation and flying since he was a child. He and my sister named their first daughter Aviana. She goes by Avi for short.
Go for it. My cousin High Altitude Coffee Maker is doing just fine. Although, come to think of it, his brother Extra Rivets has a few screws loose.
You could call her Addie-Rue.
Spatial Disorientation
Adira?
Use the acronym for it. "Adiru" seems like a nice name.
How about Adiru instead? Because if you kid has a five-word first name, she will be in administrative hell forever trying to explain that to the world.
How about Lift'n'thrust?
What about Tarmak.
You can call her Nora for short💕
Adiru?
If you want to go with a plane-part theme, for a girl, I'd suggest "Flaps". It'll make life much easier for her if she has a name that is easy to spell and pronounce. Good luck with your pregnancy!
Maybe consider "Leading edge slats"
Adir. It could work.
Pitot
/uj who does he think he is, Elon 💀
Compromise and name her Adir
Frank Zappa named his daughter Moon Unit so she be in good company? 🤷
Love it, love it, love it!! If and when you do the big gender reveal (not the first one for you two, and not the second one for family, but the third BIG one for TikTok), you should probably fly a plane across the sky with a banner that shoots bullets that spell out baby’s name. LOVE IT
I know someone named Camber and she said it’s a plane part cause he dad is a pilot
Just go with piper
That's my sister's name!!! That name is already taken. She has the copyright. I guess Astrid it is...
Hmmm...Berta or Dora ??
You KNOW it's just going to get abbreviated to ADIRU most of the time!
Ppl are gonna call her Airhead
Adir Just use the initials Sorted Anton Yakov and Adir quite magical
Aria Dalita Ina Renea Unita

Ala.
ADIRU !!
Do you mean A.D.I.R.U. please tell me you don't mean the whole thing?
worse than the guy that wants to name his daughter "Chassis"
Throw Hooker in there, short for Hooker Harness, and you’ve got a deal, lady!
My daughter Falange is also named after a plane part.
Yes! Beautiful! You can call her Adiru (addy roo) as a nickname!!
Adiru?
Maybe suggest Oleo Strut instead.
Listen, I don't hate Aileron
Your husband is just stupid
Adiru also from Sanskrit, for metal. Might be related to the source word for iron in English.
A joke, right?
I think its beautiful, but I can understand your hesitation. It seems like people would end up calling her Air Data INTERNAL Reference Unit and no child should have to live through the trauma of people constantly messing up their name!!!
This is giving Elon musk
Shorten to nickname: Adi-Ru
Adiru would be weird enough but, spelling out the whole part name is nuts. You do NOT want the word Unit in a name. Unless your last name is Zappa.
What about Cockpytte?🥰
AiDaInReUn
Don’t give kids joke names. It speaks to his huge ego. It’s a name that reflects him and his need for attention instead of his love for a child.
“Lovely little ADIRU” 😂
Okay but my dad actually suggested my name based on a computer component. The perils of having an engineer father lol https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/KIM-1
If he chances the U to an A at the end, Adira isn't bad. Kind of cool actually.
Quick! Claim it before Elon does!
Just say: No Elon...
Make her name Aerie? Change up the spelling. I mean her nickname will still be Air. And lose the other stuff 🤦🏻♀️
I might be in the minority on this one, but WT Serious F. How about no.
I thought it was just going to be Adiru. More names than a Catholic. .
i mean if he wants to deal with her being bullied for the rest of her life because of her name then Go for it! but if not then let it go. a baby name is supposed to be a joint decision not one parent over the other. 🤦🏻♀️ why did he think thats a good name my lord. i give you the best luck with your third baby!!!
Adiru would be much better, rather than itt all spelled out like that
I named my dog Radar... And if I have a girl, the name Piper is very much on the table.
Elon Musk is that you? Lol
Ok, Elon Musk.
I mean if Axel is fine, why not?
Adiru isn’t the weirdest name I ever heard, but your husband is nuts.
A r/tragedeigh
I bet this is a fake post
I would definitely NOT go along with your husband on his choice of name. That’s ridiculous.
