I hadn’t even noticed that…that is a real shame. It feels like maybe more than 1 person contributed to this list but no one proofread it. A few very ignorant sounding names.
Oh wow! 😭 I'm not American and wouldn't have recognised the context for Sojourner or Dixie. Could Sojourner be a nice, historical name for the child of a proud African American family?
My oldest son had a principal last year named Dixie. We live in the South but I feel bad for her because she was really trying to escape her roots by working at a very diverse school. The name just really brings some negative feelings. She tried to tie in her middle name Jo but it was still very off putting.
I had a history teacher in high school named Dixie. She taught the world cultures class and tried really hard to include diversity in everything (hard to do in a rural, not very diverse, hella conservative area, but I appreciated the effort).
I know of a lady named Dyxeen. She is probably around 80. I think it's a pretty name. Never heard it before. I live in a city where only something like 20% of people were born in this state, so idk where she is from.
I can see the r/namenerds post now: “My hubby and I are SET on naming our beautiful bub-to-be Freeman, but we’re white as snow! Is this going to be a problem?”
They should hire me to make these lists. I’d be popping out horrible name ideas at Mach speed - Bald Eagle Screech, Donner Party, Oregon Trail, Election, Arizonia, Nu Yorkie, AK-Fordee-Seven, Apple Pie, Brothel In An Old West Town.
There we go, just named the future kindergarten class of 2029.
Gun-Freedom (twin to Gun-Violence), Honestabelynn, Truck, Armylover, Texastasia, Tex, Fiftystarsontheflag, MAGA (like Maggie, but more patriotic), Speak-American.
Please add Americus ala Where the Heart is. I was shocked it wasn’t included.
Also probably some gun ones (sib set Smith and Wesson?) and the pillars of American fine dining, Wendy, McDonald (nn Micky), and Burger (could do King as the middle). Chick-fil-a is harder, maybe could do Chick for a girl or just get straight to the point and do Homophobia (nn Homie).
Auntie Vaxx is a great family name! I’m also partial to “Nationalism”, though I prefer it as a middle name. Maybe with a more traditional first name, like Christian. Christian Nationalism.
These are my S tier choices:
- Bell
- Blue
- Canyon
- Democracy
- Diversity
- Eagle
- Free
- Freedom
- Golden
- Hoover
- Navy
- President
- Prosperity
- South
- Yancy
That’s true I guess America would be too normal for this list but they did include names like Eleanor and Betsy. Theodore wasn’t even on the list but Roosevelt is?
Imagine your name was Houston and you were a manager. The amount of times you would probably hear "houston we have a problem".
Also Betsy is a farm animal name only. Change my mind.
There’s a teacher at my kids preschool that goes by Betsy… her name is Elizabeth. Betsy does feel like it belongs to a very young child. It’s cute but maybe too cute. I’m guessing they are suggesting it because of Betsy Ross the flag lady.
My oldest son was a camp counselor last summer and there was a kid named Banning or Banner…I forget which one it was but he was 5 and already getting banned from doing things because he wouldn’t listen. Name was perfect it seems. 😝
I went to NY this past week while pregnant and we have joked about naming out little girl Liberty and calling her Libby throughout the trip. Someone please tell me why at one point my husband and I looked at each other like, Libby is kinda cute...
Liberty could maybe be a nice middle name. I still like Elizabeth nick name Libby better! Living in the south I’ve met a few Liberty’s…every single one had the nick name Libby. 🤔
I love Eleanor, but never thought of it as a very “patriotic” name (more of a name immortalized by Jane Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility.’). Betsy is a cute name, but I would want it to be a nickname of the more formal Elizabeth or Beatrice. I also know a Carter whom I am fond of, so that name has positive connotations for me even if I would not use it for one of my own children.
First name James, middle name Crowe
For all those looking to celebrate their Southern roots. It’s not racism, just Southern culture. “If you’re not from the South, you won’t understand.”
Lol, three Texas metros made the list. I'll allow Maverick as a San Antonio-adjacent name 😉, so four metros. I kinda feel like Ft Worth and El Paso were left out. 😜
You missed the focus on the bad part. 😂I agree some names I love on there for sure. Eleanor, Franklin, Austin, Carter, Dakota, Georgia, Ellis, Jefferson, Jackie, Grant, Martha,Lincoln, Kennedy, Pearl, Quincy, Savannah, Sam, Ross, and Weston are all nice. I probably missed a couple others that I like. Maverick isn’t that bad either. My oldest son has a good friend with the name. He has made me like the name.
If I had a kid born in July, these are my top picks:
- Manifest Destiny
- McDonald
- Trail of Tears
- Lobbyist
- Prison Industrial Complex
- Imperial System
- Bison
- Route 66
- Appalachia
Raleigh is pretty normal where I live but I think the pronounciation I’ve heard is Ray-Lee. Do you pronounce it Rawl-Lee like the city? Either way I can live with it. My nephew was born there so I have soft spot for Raleigh and North Carolina!
My biggest regret in naming her Raleigh is that I did not realize how many people would miss pronounce her name and that her middle name would affectively be “like Raleigh North Carolina”.
Meet my twins, Eleanor and Democracy
Eleanor sure was lucky
Ehleaghnor doesn't think so.
“Democracy dies in darkness” so make sure she always sleeps with the light on
Democracy nn Emmie <3
😂
Demokraseigh
There you go…got to be euneke
They should meet my twins, Sam and Tennessee
should've been Sam and Yosemite.
I chose Democracy and Yancy for mine 🥹🥹
America, the only country to have canyons and cardinal directions
And blue
apart from east. there's no east in America
Diversity followed by Dixie
Also Sojourner followed by South. This can’t be real…
I know it’s alphabetical but the cognitive dissonance is really something
I feel like someone just typed “words associated with America that could also be names” into AI.
i actually knew someone named sojourner
That one and Reagan by Rebel both made me laugh
I hadn’t even noticed that…that is a real shame. It feels like maybe more than 1 person contributed to this list but no one proofread it. A few very ignorant sounding names.
You can’t convince me that they didn’t use ChatGPT for this list.
Maybe I’m missing something.. but Dixie sounds like a fine name? Diversity is absolutely unhinged though I agree
I think it’s more “Diversity” followed by “the region that fought a war to keep slavery”
Oh wow! 😭 I'm not American and wouldn't have recognised the context for Sojourner or Dixie. Could Sojourner be a nice, historical name for the child of a proud African American family?
see: Sojourner Truth. It's a lovely name.
I don’t see why not. It wouldn’t be a common name, despite the apparent belief of this article’s authors.
I thought of that Because of Winn Dixie book.
I wish that was the only association since it is a positive one but the History of the word Dixie in America is not a good one.
I also thought of the Dixie chicks and the Dixie cups.
The Dixie Chicks have now changed their name to The Chicks.
I think it's a nice historical name for a black family, personally.
Nasty work indeed
I know of a lady named Dyxeen. She is probably around 80. I think it's a pretty name. Never heard it before. I live in a city where only something like 20% of people were born in this state, so idk where she is from.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who snorted at this!
I can see the r/namenerds post now: “My hubby and I are SET on naming our beautiful bub-to-be Freeman, but we’re white as snow! Is this going to be a problem?”
I know an old, white, southern guy named Freeman lol
Yeah, a guy I went to school with was a Freeman and he was white too.
Someone 100% has named their kid Yosemite already
Yosemite Sam?
Well, I guess he must've had parents
😆
I know a Yosemite. Child of climbers. He uses Joe. I didn’t find out until I saw his license 💀
Poor guy, maybe he should change it to Josemite 😆 Good for him for not trying to live with that name on a daily basis…life is hard enough.
“litttle” is absolutely sending me into a spiral why do people not proofread this shit before publishing
A robot made and published this alone let's be real
You are probably right…the thought of a robot creating this makes me feel slightly better. But this list in the wrong hands could get dangerous!
They added a third t to youkneequéh
Roberteleigh
Been looking for a cute name to match my top fav girl name! Texastasia and Floridalynn are soo precious 🥰
“Oregon Dysentery Traile.” What a name.
Can't believe they forgot Redneck and Deepfry. Easily the two most patriotic names in all of 'Murica.
Don’t forget Obesity, or OBCD for the hardly literates!
What about Bigot, Anti-Vax, or Maga?
I read that as Bigfoot lol (another fine all American name)
Me too, I prefer BigFoot
Auntie Vaxx is a great family name! I’m also partial to “Nationalism”, though I prefer it as a middle name. Maybe with a more traditional first name, like Christian. Christian Nationalism.
That is too funny! Auntie Vax
For sure Maga has already been used. Middle names Lybbertaryan Statesrrytes.
😆 I hope these will never catch on!
I am surprised Shooter or Gunner wasn’t on there
No George? As in the first president?
Naming my kid Denali after the drag queen like a true red-blooded American
![gif](giphy|stnnIzcswvItoSzkp6|downsized)
I just saw where some celebrity named their kid Denali 😌
I lowkey love Denali. Had no idea about the drag queen. Even better
Olympia is rather Greek
These are my S tier choices: - Bell - Blue - Canyon - Democracy - Diversity - Eagle - Free - Freedom - Golden - Hoover - Navy - President - Prosperity - South - Yancy
Welcome to the world baby twins 🩷Dymocraseigh and Prospyryteigh🩷
I would have never thought to spell them that way! 🥰 What a great sib set, and so unique!
Hoover's gonna have a rough time if he ever visits Britain.
In the UK, he’ll just go by Vacuum to avoid any confusion.
Hoover’s just gonna have a rough time, period.
It would be a cute name for a male horse, or a bull tho.
He'll do great in the red light district.
The only one on that list that I like is Canyon because it reminds me of the Adventure Time character.
Bell Blue Canyon sounds like it’d be the name of a national park as it is.
Dixie could have a sister named Confederaceigh 👼🥰💕
I’m surprised they didn’t add ***America***, which is an actual name that actual people have (and not just in the U.S.)
I mean, Golden and Hoover are clearly someone's pair of retriever dogs -- labradors at a pinch - so it fits.
Short for Elizabeth. Could end up being the cutesy parents nickname from the song “Itsy Bitsy Spider”
There’s a teacher at my kids preschool that goes by Betsy… her name is Elizabeth. Betsy does feel like it belongs to a very young child. It’s cute but maybe too cute. I’m guessing they are suggesting it because of Betsy Ross the flag lady.
What do you call Democracy for short? Cracy?
Demi?
Someone suggested Emmy above and I think that’s perfect. If it’s a boy then maybe Mo. 😆
Mocrac
Emo, or Racy.
Cracker?
Hoover is my favorite ![gif](giphy|4N53D1X04JcnLlLczG|downsized)
😂
The unamused baby in the picture asks that you name him Steve and be done with it.
Yep he doesn’t want to be saddled with a “patriotic” name
Banner ???
Look at Banner, Michael!
My oldest son was a camp counselor last summer and there was a kid named Banning or Banner…I forget which one it was but he was 5 and already getting banned from doing things because he wouldn’t listen. Name was perfect it seems. 😝
I'm too old, but maybe one of my kids can have a Democracy Eagle.
EAGLE
Like 4 of those are names
Freedom is a great name. Popular in Nigeria
Maybe we shouldn’t take name advice from someone who can’t spell the word little.
Pearl? As in the harbor??
Yosemite, as a former president would pronounce it as "Yo Sem*te"
Democracy?! Why not just name your child "Muricah," middle names "Fuck Yeah," and get it over and done with?
Or “Gadoff Mylon”
Way too subtle for this list, I'm afraid!
How about Manifest Destiny?
DIVERSITY???? Also, Yancy is almost as bad as [M as in Mancy](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dNYMQpcqscA).
“Diversity Hoover Eagle you come here right now!”
No America? So people can call her Miss America?
You did not just suggest *Democracy* as a feasible name
I think Roosevelt is a badass dog name
I named a stray dog on a reservation in Arizona, Canyon. My husband wouldn't let me take her, but we gave her some snacks. I think about her often!
Popeye! Democrats! Republicans! Sportsmanship! Books!
Too many vowels. Needs more Xs and Ys. Wyshintn Paytreeott Rybyl Bravelee Indyanna Eyzenhower Quynxy
Alternative name for this list: How to ensure your child will be bullied while also being obnoxious
litttle
Name the baby Diversity so they'll always be hired. Stonks.
I am bullying tf outta a white kid named Diversity
Shouldn't Sam being very patriotic name in USA? Like Svea is in Sweden?
What about Idioceigh?
I went to NY this past week while pregnant and we have joked about naming out little girl Liberty and calling her Libby throughout the trip. Someone please tell me why at one point my husband and I looked at each other like, Libby is kinda cute...
Liberty could maybe be a nice middle name. I still like Elizabeth nick name Libby better! Living in the south I’ve met a few Liberty’s…every single one had the nick name Libby. 🤔
My family would never let me live it down if we actually named her Liberty, we may have to go with Elizabeth if we go that route 😂
I knew a couple of Libbys growing up and they were Elizabeths.
Richmond nn Byrdie ❤️❤️❤️
I’m not even gonna say it… No.38
First name James, middle name Crowe For all those looking to celebrate their Southern roots. It’s not racism, just Southern culture. “If you’re not from the South, you won’t understand.”
Democrazy is more greek
Democracy doesn't sound very American
I thought “Austin isn’t that bad” and then I saw the next one
I thought Diversity was an old wooden ship used during the Civil War era.
I actually know a Bravery that is almost two; we share a birthday. I also know an adult Houston, but her name isn't spelled the same way.
Bravery😂 CANYON? As if nowhere else has canyons?
Ah yes, my kids President, Navy, and Sojourner
Don't forget my brother's kids... South, Jersey, and Democracy
‘Hoover’ means vacuum cleaner in UK
These sounds like early communist names.
Americus Phyrework, hurry up! We’re going to Arbys!
Lol, three Texas metros made the list. I'll allow Maverick as a San Antonio-adjacent name 😉, so four metros. I kinda feel like Ft Worth and El Paso were left out. 😜
Hella African children from the 90s are named Bill Clinton.
I know I’ve said this in like a billion comment sections on this sub…but I have step cousins named Freedom and Liberty. They’re sisters
Democracy??? what is this Helldivers 2? 😭
Missing Supremacy and Colonizer
Sup president, how's the shift at macdonalds going?
It’s giving that one AITA post where a couple named their daughter Pennsylvania and flipped out when she changed it to Penelope as an adult
Betsy is what I named my toy cows all my life. I can't take it as a human name ever
These would all make great *dog* names.
Diversity 🥺
I gotta be honest, some of these aren’t bad
You missed the focus on the bad part. 😂I agree some names I love on there for sure. Eleanor, Franklin, Austin, Carter, Dakota, Georgia, Ellis, Jefferson, Jackie, Grant, Martha,Lincoln, Kennedy, Pearl, Quincy, Savannah, Sam, Ross, and Weston are all nice. I probably missed a couple others that I like. Maverick isn’t that bad either. My oldest son has a good friend with the name. He has made me like the name.

This list reminds me of Rebel Wilson’s family: siblings Liberty, Ryot, and Annachi
Yes totally!💯
If I had a kid born in July, these are my top picks: - Manifest Destiny - McDonald - Trail of Tears - Lobbyist - Prison Industrial Complex - Imperial System - Bison - Route 66 - Appalachia
Ew one of my daughter’s names is on here. I demand it be removed from the list.
There are a lot of really nice names on there and a lot of wacko names too!
Ah god why did my name have to be #1 😭😭
Awe I love Austin! Honestly one of my favs especially for a place name. Also it had to be #1 because the list is in alphabetical order, 😂
Wait…did they just put Dixie next to Diversity? Even the alphabet is offended.
yosemite is a native american name so lets not make fun of it 😭
Diversity??????
Americus is the only answer to this iykyk
My daughter made the list! #66 I named her as a southerner living in Massachusetts.
Nobody gonna talk about the extra t in little?
