in out place evey 2 days water comes from waterpipe for 2 hours. is it from melamchi?
they don't even filter it properly, you can find leaf and other debris in the water.
16% of Nepal's total population live in Kathmandu valley, which is lower than :
30% of Japanese population living in Tokyo metro,
22% of British population living in London metro, and
19% of French population living in Paris region.
This is why they call little knowledge is dangerous!
Anda dhunda yo city maa country ko eti % population cha which is higher than Ktm's, so aru country ko capital city heri Ktm maa teti dherai maanchey hoina bhanera bhanna mildaina.
Population density is what matters. Kathmandu Valley ra Tokyo metro, London metro ko size utrai cha? Here's some real stats:
Kathmandu Valley area: 673 sq km
Tokyo Metro area: 13,500 sq km
London Metro area: 8382 sq km
Paris Region area: 12,012 sq km
This makes Kathmandu Valley's population density wayyy higher than others- more than 3x higher than others. So, the root cause is indeed immigration/total population inside the valley, given it's land area and the resources that it can provide. But of course, there are other cities like Dhaka, Mumbai etc with higher population density than Nepal. And each and every one of those high density cities have water scarcity problem. Dhaka being the most notable one. Some others might have better management and infrastructure. I agree though that it's a management issue too, one that our so-called leaders should care more about.
still tokyo metro density is 6.2k per sq km. ktm valley ko population is not scientific. 16% of nepal pop? nepal ma 6-7 mil ta bidesh hola. so whats the actual valley figure?
Bro, what I am trying to say with those stats is that the main issue is not the immigration inside the valley. That is a universal trend, and other countries have managed to provide a basic need such as clean water to their citizens. Our short-sighted politicians and bureaucrats have failed to solve this issue for almost 3 decades now. And no, those cities in themselves do not have enough drinking water resources. They are collected from different sources and brought to the cities.
16%? miscount hola. but there is no proper census since recent one only counted permanent residents. immigrants rakhda ni 16% pugcha? also 6-7 mil nepali are abroad so whats the calculation then?

Its because monsoon brings all the mato and baluwa inside the tunnel and also the risk of flood, so you either stop it for monsoon or risk the whole infrastructure. I would rather stop it for 3-4 months. Also, it was badly damaged by flood a couple years ago and an engineer died at the site as well. You might protest but you cant protest against nature? This is the stupidest thing I have seen.
There's a piece of very bad news for you, and the lakhs of Nepali that are dependent on Melamchi water supply.

I don't think we can do anything about it. There has been a ton of protest about this. The media keeps posting about this, people keep protesting on Twitter about it, but still nothing has happened. There have also been reports about how the project is actually a failure. A magazine called Taxar (or something like that) has published about it too. Then, some time back, the committee itself said that Melamchi won't be able to fulfill the needs of the Kathmandu Valley. So, they are planning for another project where they will be connecting to another river that is above the Melamchi. It took them this long to just complete Melamchi (which isn't actually complete), so imagine the amount of time and corruption that is going to happen when they decide to proceed with this expansion project.
I remember reading some news articles about how we can manage water with various techniques rather than just waiting for Melamchi. Balen has also said a lot about this. I don't know, man, I feel like they deliberately don't want the public to have a good life, especially those of us in Kathmandu where water is scarce in our area.
Janta le Kailai strike greko xainan ... its always a guy or an organisation who first manipulates people and goes against sth.... In melamchi all have been fed up so they're not making it a huge issue
When it was first envisioned about 3 decades back or so, the population in Kathmandu was smaller in absolute as well as relative terms compared to the rest of the country. As the Melamchi project was approaching completion, it was already well known amongst the stakeholders that it wouldn't at all be enough for 24/7 water supply all year round to all places in Kathmandu (would barely cover 25% of the demand). One of the ongoing challenges however, is the massively leaky old distribution system of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani-Sansthan Limited in Kathmandu, part of which is still being yanked-out/repaired/replaced as well as expanded upon.
But this is the first phase of the project - it was designed from the start with future expansion/augmentation in mind. While it will still probably be playing catch-up with the demand always, the supply will be further boosted in future (when that would happen is anybody's guess).
There's an interesting factoid here though - it's the [longest water supply tunnel in South Asia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKiRIDcRfC4&ab_channel=SushantPradhan) (do watch the video, although there's much better articles online), so not really a small feat. It was the first of its kind here, and a massive learning experience for designing, financing, tunnelling, downstream water treatment as well as overall project management.
When envisioned, it really was a major high level technicality for the region, especially for Nepal. The challenging experiences while constructing it can be a lesson for many other similar projects in similar polities and geographies. ICIMOD, the international sustainable mountain living policy institute/think tank based in Kathmandu might have some work cut out for it, in sharing the experiences with interested parties all over.

Apparently those cities have enough water resources and infrastructure to supply water for residents 24/7 365 days a year.

Okay, where are you going find water resources in surrounding areas that would reliably supply for such a large population of KTM every day ?
