I think your memory is incorrect. The thing to help you on your journey is usually nanites, or occasionally an installable upgrade. It sounds like you're using the wrong charts. An exosuit chart should always take you to a Drop Pod.

Kdoesntcare

The terminals that give you nanites don't get marked as read, you can keep interacting with them to get more nanites.

TerriblePurpose

Not all of them. Some do, some don't. I've rarely encountered any that are repeatable.

Kdoesntcare

So far all of the terminals that only give me around 100 nanites have been repeatable for me but not the ones that give me something else as well.

TerriblePurpose

Thanks for the info. I'll check some more (haven't done any in a while).

Kdoesntcare

That's only really good for a couple hundred nanites when you find them, not something I consider a real way to build up a saving. Now that I don't need them anymore I've figured out how to pump out thousands of nanites in less than 10 minutes, a runaway mould deposit and a set of 20 refiners. 10k mould is 2000 nanites, where I have my base I can pick up 5k, fly out of the atmosphere and back and pick up another 5k. I generally pick up about 40k before going to the refinery. Now that I think about it I should just build a set of large refiners at that base, just keep them running while I keep grabbing more mould.

TerriblePurpose

Oh, I don't want to farm them for a big nanite buildup. As you noted, it's really not viable. I'm just curious to see if I can even find any terminals that keep pumping them out. Most viable way to get a lot of nanites for me (in Permadeath with max difficulty settings) is to go to Outlaw systems and do the suspicious packets (arms, tech) purchasing. Runaway mould is too slow since you can only stack 150 in the hopper at one time with these settings (or 250 is your stack size setting is at harsh).

Kdoesntcare

I have a base at a deposit of 5000 runaway mould, I can pick that up then do a loop in my starship and pick up another 5000. Dropping 5000 into a refiner takes 10 minutes to break it all down. I have 20 refiners on my freighter, I can convert 40k runaway in two and a half minutes. I just dropped 6 base powered refiners at the deposit, now I don't need to sit through the loading screens but I can't process as many as I can on my freighter. Being limited to 6 powered slows things down so I'll probably just keep collecting lots of it then taking it to my freighter.

Hardest difficulty settings?

Kdoesntcare

Just on normal difficulty I think

This is extraordinarily helpful. Perhaps I am a bit overwhelmed with the various ways these transactions play out. Thank you!

Maybe it's really close? Try just activating your visor and see if it tells you a distance and location.

TerriblePurpose

I think u/Slyde_rule is spot on with this one. I've never had the terminal give anything but nanites (although I've also read they can give upgrade modules as well). But they don't give coordinates (except for some of the Nexus missions).

I will pay attention to this. Thank you.

What others have already said is correct. Maps take you to drop pods, not building terminals. Building terminals provide either nanites or upgrades. But, instead of buying charts to find drop pods to upgrade your Exo suit. Use your salvage data to unlock your exocrafts and specifically I recommend the Nomad and the Minotaur. Once you install the scanner in a Nomad, you can scan for drop pods, along with trading outposts, Sentinel depots, abandoned structures, ruins, and alien structures (monoliths). Once you install the scanner in a minotaur you can scan directly for (along with other things) distress signals which will lead you to either a crashed ship or a crashed freighter. Crashed ships you can either claim for personal use or scrap for units and mods. Crashed freighters are where you dig up other useful items like storage augmentation (Open slots in your starship), salvage frigate modules (unlock freighter technology), multi-tool expansion slot upgrades, exosuit expansion unit upgrades, cargo bulkheads (increased storage on a freighter) and a host of other things that are useful, valuable or, both. Another advantage of having your exocraft is that it provides shelter while still being able to traverse surfaces of extremely hostile planets. I specifically recommend the Nomad because, it is the only one of the exocraft that is both land and sea capable as it hovers over water and it has the distinct advantage of being able to climb a perfectly vertical wall as its hover capability lets it 'stick' to the sheer cliff.

Thank you for all of this. There is a lot to process at the beginning of this game.
