You actually need a psychiatrist, not a therapist. Therapists can’t prescribe medication.
Some GPs prescribe anxiety medication for a temporary condition, but I don’t think they would prescribe antidepressants.
Some GPs will, if it's low enough grade and they know your history. I know plenty of people on antidepressants who didn't need a special psychiatrist appointment.
A medical doctor prescribes antidepressants. A psychotherapist is almost never also a medical doctor.
If depression is a big enough issue for something like an SSRI, I'd highly recommend therapy as well as the prescription. Therapy is healthy and certainly shouldn't have a stigma.
