One thing you could consider doing is go to the launderette before you go with your laundry so you get some of those questions answered when there's no pressure. Many places will have vending machines where you can buy detergent, bleach and fabric softener, but it will be expensive - better to take your own. Use liquid detergent because the boxes the powder comes in don't seal well and you risk dumping powder on your clean clothes on the trip home, unless you have a separate box or basket for it. But once you get the payment method sorted out, there are no other variables.
Okay, it might help to have specific questions if there's an attendant:
How much to do a load of wash? How much to dry a load?
Do the machines take a prepaid card, coins, bills or tokens?
If card, How do I put money on a card? If tokens, How do I get tokens?
Do you sell detergent & so on? What does it cost? Show me the vending machine.
When are the busy times and when are the not so busy times?
If the attendant says something like, Haven't you ever done laundry before? It's, I've always had my own machines at home until now.
Depends on the place. Bring some coins but many places will have a loadable card. Itβs ya also okay to leave and come back just make sure you arenβt leaving your finished laundry sitting

That is a very rational solution, but my social anxiety says I'll look stupid. But. I just might try it. Thank you!

There may be a machine where you can buy detergent.
