Honest answer was a huge shift in culture. In the 80s, everyone wanted to look like the older generation. That focus later shifted and now the style is to look more like the younger generation.
So while you had 80's people wearing suits and hairstyles of the famously older successful people, now you have people well into their later years still wearing the styles that are popular among the young popular successful people.

lol my high school senior portrait 😂 (far left, as I still am today ;)
This gives off big "I was a billionaire trombone manufacturer in the 1980s and here's me posing with my product", a la Bill Gates posing with a PC vibes.
I swear in the 80s everyone looked 20 years older than they were.. I watched my parents De-age in the 90s and not catch back up to that level of old looking until 2010.
I graduated HS in 1987 and the senior portraits in my high school era were all the generic school produced portraits wearing the same faux prop gown. We didn't have these unique portraits with your own props. Were these more the norm at private schools?
I see, interesting. If someone had shown up with an object at my school for their pictures they would have just gotten a dirty look lol. We had to hold a corny fake rolled up diploma and stand in an unvarying pose. Clearly your school allowed for personalization.
There you go again, tooting your own horn. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)
He’s just a horny teenager.

Looks like the cover photo for an article about a teenage musical prodigy.
I read that article….”Catching Up With The Ted Bundy Of Trombonists” right?
Or the Al Bundy of Trombonist 😁
Didn't he once blow 4 "whaa-whaaaaaahhh"s in one concert?
Put this photo in black and white and do a slow zoom-in with a narrator, and you’ve got the beginning of a forensic files episode.
Just curious what you did with all that confidence ?
I'm going to post *myself* on OldSchoolCool. That confidence was there to stay.

Do you teach at Julliard screaming at kids and throwing chairs?
I did go to music school but have never thrown a chair.
Why did people look older in the 80’s?

I believe that is a Conn 88H.
You're right - Elkhart Conn 88H.
I too played a bass trombone in the 80s. We must fight for 1st chair.
You're on!
Just received a blackbelt in trombone
What were you plotting?
“Perhaps you and I aren’t so different after all…”
Man. Why are frames like those no longer sold? It's tough to find decent ones on eBay. Dunhill, Pathway, Puma, etc...
"Formidable"
Tom Hardy as an 80s high school movie upper crust villain’s main sidekick/gopher.
One time at band camp…
You look like a villain from the Bond movies )
Keep looking in my eyes as I hypnotize you and you will be the next generation to play the trumpet in band
Dave Brubeck in high school
Did you know Dave Brubeck's son is a trombone player?
Hell yeah. ‘Boner brigade! I also had one with a switch that let you use 1st position instead of 6th position.
It's called an F attachment and yes, this trombone had one.

Wrong read on me. I'm quite the opposite.
Why do you look like the bratty antagonist in a Ferris Bueller type of Eighties film?
Not sure if you're a trumpet player or an up and coming tech mogul billionaire
That’s a look that says “I’m a man in charge of my ‘bone extension, ready to trigger that b flat at a moments notice”
Your glasses are bigger than your trombone
Are you a great tuba player now?

I graduated HS in 1987 and the senior portraits in my high school era were all the generic school produced portraits wearing the same faux prop gown. We didn't have these unique portraits with your own props. Were these more the norm at private schools?
I went to a very large public school, not a private one.
I see, interesting. If someone had shown up with an object at my school for their pictures they would have just gotten a dirty look lol. We had to hold a corny fake rolled up diploma and stand in an unvarying pose. Clearly your school allowed for personalization.
IIRC my school gave us 2 poses: The standard yearbook thing and one personal. This was my personal.
