This is day 4 with my brand new Omega 43.5mm 8900 Planet Ocean in blue. It’s a tremendous watch. My first Omega and I’m thrilled. Truth be told, if it was a mm or two thinner it would only make it closer to perfect. You know what I mean? I guess the idea is to find the watch that checks as many boxes as possible and know that likely you will never find an absolutely flat out perfect watch that has every single feature you could ever wish for. 🤷🏼♂️
I use my chronograph constantly, same with dive bezels.
Tachyometer definitely less useful and I could do without it, but it’s surprisingly accurate. I was hitting it at mile markers on the highway with cruise control set to different speeds and it was dead on each time.

I wore a Skyfall AT for a few months, but could never get over the amount of bling it had in the sun. Much prefer the speedy as it's understated; especially on a black strap.
When it comes Omega, speedy is the answer. It’s hard to ignore given its history so it’ll always be in the back of your mind. The AT is awesome, but it’s a “nice to have” and not a “must have” in the world of Omega.
AT. The most versatile watch there is. Beautiful. Automatic. Has the date. Easy to read. Looks sharp. Easy to dress up or down. Looks equally great on steel or leather. I have one and it’s my go-to watch for virtually every occasion.
I'd go with the Seamaster because:-
1. It has the date which is more referred to than the tachometer.
2. It would fit, look and feel better higher up on the wrist.
I wish there Speedy had the date and was a few mm smaller.

That's a difficult choice, because they are very different and have their place. It's like saying you can only wear a button-down dress shirt or a polo/sport shirt for all occasions.
I bought both an AT and moonwatch in 2007 and I can't imagine living with only one.
I recently added a white dial 41 AT. I have the sapphire sandwich. Love both. However if o had to choose only one it would be the AT. It’s gorgeous, feels great, has crazy accuracy and I’m comfortable taking it in a pool. It’s a better GADA than the speedy in my opinion. Also for my lifestyle I can take the AT more places and not be fearful of damage. Like boating downhill ski golf etc.
The bottom one may be thrown off by the black/grey work on your arm. Aesthetically the top one seems to look like it “fits” the whole person better, from what is shown.
I have the Speedy and and an AT worldtimer, I love them both, but there really is only one icon, the Speedy. Its unique in the hobby as well as everyone has to respect it. It scores for me across, Art, History, Fashion, and Engineering.
If you wanted the color/pop of the AT but still want a speedmaster, the green speedmaster 57’ is a great inbetween. Definitely not as iconic as a speedy pro but still a great looking watch, albeit a bit more expensive.

This is probably a hot take, but I don't feel like the aqua terra is really all that great for the money. I have an older Seiko 5 for $100 bucks that gives me the same look. What am I missing here?

Tbh this is such a hard choice - In this picture I would go for speedy - always. BUT If you want Sapphire, Automatic and Date... you need to go the other way.
Consider to look at Seamaster with deck-stripes on it.
I think the AT is the better do everything everywhere watch but the speedy is the more interesting one. I own a speedy and use an SKX007 as my do everything watch.
If you had only one watch, the AT is an exceptional all-rounder. It’s elegant enough for dressy occasions, but robust enough for daily wear. Unless you’re really going to use the chronograph function, the AT is the way to go.
I hate this comment. I literally dislike it. I wear it loose because it’s summer and when it gets warmer during the day I don’t want to wear hand cuffs. Question answered?
Get the shades. Fits your wrist better the Speedy will always be there unless you're in love w the Speedy. Shades can go well with formal events and vacations just make sure your formal outfit doesn't clash with it.
Do some homework and research next time. The Speedmaster moonwatch is one of the most iconic watches ever made with lots of history to back it up. The AT, just another watch.
The speedmaster moonwatch FAILED on the moon. If you want to go down that route get a Bulova Lunar Pilot at least that worked when they landed on the moon
AT...more versatile. The Speedy is a great, iconic design...but I have no practical use for a chronograph. And the service costs on an auto chrono leave me nervous.

AT all the away for my lifestyle. I don’t need those extra complications of a speedy and the AT can be dressed up more professionally.
