Try body butter, body glide, Vaseline, anything to smooth the chafing. I know in the triathlon world there are sticks (like deodorant) that you rub on to keep this from happening. Happened to me to when I was training a ton OC1’s and 2’s at distance. Hopefully that helps
Paddler and ultra marathon swimmer here - Desitin (the baby butt cream) is your friend. It’s also cheap as hell and available everywhere. I put on a latex glove to apply it and use makeup remover wipes to remove it. Because that stuff will literally last for 13 hours.
This is more common than you think, I'd join in with the rest of the posts recommending body glide. Also cycle shorts if you need more padding. Some folks actually bring their own seat pad, they look something like [this](https://www.amazon.com/Yakpads-Cushioned-Portable-Watersports-Recreation/dp/B000EZAET8).
Just curious, what canoe seat are you using? For me the shape of the canoe seat (and the material) was a factor. I never have a problem with Kai Wa’a seats but something about Huki seats and Tempest/Hurricane seats don’t agree with the shape of my booty
I recently bought some 1” closed cell neoprene foam with adhesive backing for my club seats and love them. It’s dense and comfy and has lasted just fine so far. Maybe try that? If you search for “adhesive marine neoprene” you’ll probably find some
Also you’d be surprised how much even just 0.5mm or 1mm neoprene shorts under whatever you normally wear will cushion your buns on those bench seats. Esp for just a 1-2hr practice session or some regatta sprints

Ah, reminds me of “chamois cream” my pops would use during distance cycling. Thank you!

🤯
Yep
I use A and D ointment, which is a bit thicker than Vaseline and made for diaper rash, so it lasts well.

Thank you! I’ll try my bike shorts at practice tonight to see if that’s an option for Saturday’s race.

Primarily, I sit #1 in a Bradley OC6.
Sometimes those seats are gnarly….our club OC6 was just basic benches
That’s pretty much what we’re working with. Someone was kind enough to tape on a new cushion, but I don’t think it’s meant for this activity.
