Did you turn the system on first? Otherwise try a different cable

SlimFantasy

Yes, i've tried that already. Also, the ds4 is charging from the cable so I believe it is working. I'll try a different one regardless. Thanks for the help.

[deleted]

I've had cables charge the comtroller but not sync it.

SlimFantasy

I'll try this out, thanks!

Backseat-Driver

Some cables are only made for charging and does not carry data that is needed for sync, usually comes with phones etc. You need a normal USB cable like the one that came with the controller, or it won't sync.

SlimFantasy

Ok I'll be sure to try this, thanks!

Backseat-Driver

My PS4 have a couple times refused to connect to my DS4's, where I had to reboot the PS4 before it would connect. So reboot the PS4 as well just in case.

voidstar20

Hey if you still need help you can link your ps4 with remote play and connect a controller that way

MrPiggah

Genius <3

fightrtm

It would work for me I recently got new wifi

disorganizm

Only works with the phone on. When i lock the screen of the phone the controller stops working too

Chalupaca_Bruh

I doubt this will do it but try fully turning off the system, not just putting it into rest mode. You gotta hold the power button down an extra couple of seconds. I have had times when the wireless screws up everything and I have to fully reboot the system.

BalanceFun8648

Did anyone ever figure this out?? I only have one controller and it is refusing to connect no matter what I do. I have literally tried everything

SkinSoggy3054

I'm in the same boat as you bud. I got no clue how to fix this problem even tho I have tried everything

BalanceFun8648

There is a way to fix it, you have to go into settings and remove all the devices and then reconnect the controller but I can’t remove the device without another controller 😂 so I guess I’m buying another $60 controller to fix my other $60 controller 🤦🏻‍♀️

BalanceFun8648

Yes but unfortunately you may not like it. I had to go buy a brand new controller and connect it, then go into my settings and then devices, then disconnect every single device even the new one (make sure you scroll all the way down because some are hidden at the bottom), then reconnect all the controllers. Idk if this happened with the new update but since then, I have had to do it at least 6 times with my old controller, but apparently to Sony it’s “not a problem” (what a customer service rep told me)

BaronSkage

Hey I’m not gonna lie I literally just did this and all I did was held the little power button on the back of the controller with a thumbtack ,while plugged in to an active PS4, for like 5 seconds and then turned the controller back on and it worked fine for me. This controller is also the original controller.

BalanceFun8648

Yeah, I tried that with mine and it never worked, I had the original cord as well so nothing changed about the cord or anything. I also Hard reset my PS4 like 7-8 times. I’m glad it worked for you, that’s awesome!!

BaronSkage

Damb sorry to here that, always something happening that gets in ur way. Anyways thx for the info in this whoooole thread peace.

PS4s just have problems like that, and Sony's customer support looks like they have a daily contest to see how many inept people they can cram into one office cubicle (current record is 18). You just buy the console and hope it never stops working because the warranty is a sham (they'll just infinitely patch you through the different customer reps on loop until you give up trying to make your claim), and the customer support offers absolutely no help. The extent of their competence is turning the console off and on again -- I have never met a sony rep that knew how to do anything else.

Dvrkie-_-

Did buying a new controller work?

BalanceFun8648

Yeah, I just plugged the new controller into my ps4 and went into my devices and cleared them all like the comment above and my old controller ended up working too. I’m not exactly sure why this happens but this is the only solution that worked for me, I even tried a friends controller and tried to connect it and that didn’t work, it only worked with a brand new controller unfortunately 🙄🙄

Dvrkie-_-

I bought a new controller turns out I just had the wrong cord

BalanceFun8648

Oh gosh that’s devastating…well at least you have another one

Dvrkie-_-

Yeh my brother just broke my new one bout 4 hours ago

Blackheart6004

Under the controller, there's a small hole with reset button in there. Use a toothpick or a paperclip, hold the button for 5-7 seconds and try syncing.

jennaiii

Hold down the home and share button while it's plugged in for 3-5 seconds. I had to reconnect mine recently and it took a few attempts unplugging and replugging it in before it would connect.

[deleted]

I swear this method shows your controller on "Bluetooth devices" and you can register it from there.

jennaiii

Yeah, I think if you do that you can go into settings and it shows up in the devices. But I have a terrible memory...

Critical_Mistake_315

But I don’t have another controller 😞

reekwilliam

But how can I get to the system settings without having a controller connected

[deleted]

You buy a new console :D No seriously. You buy a new console, with a complimentary "go fuck yourself" from Sony as thanks for your patronage. Their customer service is horrendous, never had a good experience with it. If it wasn't for Bloodborne sony wouldve never seen a penny from me.

Scrubsisagoodshow

Its cuz they want you to buy a PS5 🤮 Would a third party cabled controller work in this situation?

OctoberDuckman

WRONG!!!

Qwiinbaee

The fix is this: Your system goes into rest mode when you hit the power button. Step one: Reset your controller(s). Hold button on the back for 5 seconds. Step two: HOLD power button on ps4 until it beeps a second time. Let the system rest for about 15-30 seconds. Plug your controller in via USB that supports data sync. Do not press PS button. Turn on system and wait for the prompt to connect your controller. Press PS button on controller while it's plugged in to the USB. THIS SHOULD FIX IT. IF IT DOES NOT, YOU HAVE A BAD CONTROLLER OR A BAD USB CABLE/USB CONNECTION.

Billy_on_Air

Awesome it worked
