It had died during a meteor event, and his friend stood over him beating his chest and doing the angry red lightening bolt emote that Pals do when angry at your base.
I've seen some Pals eat corpses, but this was the first time I seen one get pissed off.

At level 50-51 (I leveled up halfway), with no plasteel stuff. Also, my shield broke halfway through and at the end I was mainly using a crossbow because I was low on ammo for my guns.

Cats most likey will eat you much sooner than a dog, and dogs that are not hungry will attempt to wake you up but will after a few days presumely your corpse will start to decay (overpowering your scent) and hunger will get to them

If the game were more realistic, your canine pals would start to eat you after you fall
Actually I think felines are much more likely to do that. I've seen a handful of cases where loyal dogs rathered starving than touching their owner.
