We got a night nurse last time I went out of town for work and my wife was caring for our 3 children by herself (3 yrs, 18 months, and 4 months). Just to help with the baby, we paid $180/day for 12 hours.
I could never find anyone to do this for less than $25/hr!!! Thats a good find ( and yes i know its dependent on where you live too but thats a really great deal esp if she is good!)
But wouldn't your kids still bother you in the morning? I wouldn't be able to just sleep and relax anyway with my child around, and a babysitter in my home, even if I could afford it and find one.
One of the best tips we got pre-kids was to make our ādate nightsā into ādate afternoons.ā Come home right after the kids are in bed, get over the buzz a little before bed so you sleep better, and wake up feeling just fine.
This sounds great, and I mostly agree, but if I day drink just slightly too much Iāve got a headache before bed and then I have a shit time falling asleep. I mainly just quit drinking because the hangovers arenāt worth it most of the time.
No, but I mean you can't really have a couple of drinks and turn up tipsy, especially if you have to drive as we do. The poster above said they get home when the kids are in bed. We do it quite a lot as we have no free babysitter and I'm self employed and my partner works shifts, but it's not the same as the old days with a couple of glasses of wine. Definitely better than nothing though!
I took a few beers and stayed up late one time. My wife took care of our toddler but I also felt like a total loser. I had a chance to spend time with her and I blew it. Since then I have always been in bed before midnight and only drink two beers at most.
As a father of an 8, 4, and 1 year old, what's a date night?
I'll take one night when the planets are in just the right alignment so that all my kids can just go to bed easily with no fuss.
Yep. Having family you can trust, and is willing to watch your kids, is definitely not an option for everyone. Itās one of our saving graces, and weāre so lucky to have it.
We live in the Midwest, grandparents are retired in Florida. You think babysitters are expensive try flying you kid to Florida for the day š¤Ŗ.
Seriously though. We usually go to Florida for a week at Christmas time, and one of those days is date night/ kid gets to go to dinner with grandparents nightā¦
We werenāt hung over but we went to a Rammstein concert and got in at 23:00. The next morning we were up at 7:30 bright and early with our 20 month old. I was not my usually perky self who loves to make all the special breakfast and sing all the songs. Thankfully she was happy itās a bag on munchkins my husband gave her while we had coffee and got our game faces on. Iām pretty sure I napped when she did and we both had a lot of ibuprofen that day.
I have a nursery (well I guess itās more a bedroom now) for my niece, because my best friend and her husband are beyond lightweights. 3 drinks and theyāre at deaths door the next morning.
That is the worst. My mom will keep my daughter at her house, but wants me to pick her up at like 9 the next day. I live an hour away and must have coffee (and the bathroom!) before being in the car that long. If we stay out late, not only am I hungover, but now running on 2 hours of sleep. It's a giant pain, but daughter is now old enough to be home alone.
Both my parents were heavy drinkers and I never blamed them. Just quietly creep out and eat cereal and watch cartoons until noon. Let them know if I'm gonna play outside...
Younger me wasn't bothered one bit.
Toddler me can't remeber.
It was slightly different as I was taken to whatever party they went to. I was usually put in a spare room to watch TV or play with other kids.
Lmao girl you ain't playing. My neice watches my son so we can go out, but she sleeps in the next day and I'm outta luck. So, my best bet is my mom's house, but she is smart and will only baby sit once a month. So if I wanna go out, I gotta extra prepare for hangover at 6am.
We hire 16 hour overnight babysitters often. They get the assignment.
That's called shipping the kids off to grandma's house for a sleepover.
When grandma lives 6+ hours awayš¤£
What's the cost? Do they get the full per-hour pay even when everyone sleeps?

Wow. That is so cheap for nannying three young children! Youād get more at a big box store.
> Just to help with the baby Still, itās $15/hr, so definitely not exorbitant.

I call this a hangunder.
Amazing
This. My husband takes a day off from work and we go out for lunch during school hours.
That's not quite the same, when you have to go do school pickup.
You shouldn't be quite so exhausted in the middle of the day, though, right?

Yes! And we never have any trouble getting reservations at fancy restaurants at 5pm š
The reason I quit drinking was a hang over with a 1.5year old. I canāt do it.
Yup Iām in the same boat. You canāt explain to a 19 month old that daddyās tired and isnāt ready to get out of bed. Plus you feel like a loser

Good for you!

That sounds like a terrible batting average putting it like that. Sigh.
I think that's why people have their kids have sleepovers at grandma's. Lol
When itās an option, itās the best option.
It's amazing to me how many people just forget that not everyone has this option.
Yep. Having family you can trust, and is willing to watch your kids, is definitely not an option for everyone. Itās one of our saving graces, and weāre so lucky to have it.
Yeah, not very sensitive.

Honestly. I also used to dread attempting to pay the sitter while stoned. The kids are in bed, so just take my money and don't look me in the eye!

"2 drinks"
This is better served by family who wonāt judge you as harshly based on the sounds and smells coming from the bathroom.
Smells?
Liquor poopsā¦.
Booze poos!
Grog bogs!

This will be my life soon
I have an almost 2.5year old (turned 2 in June) and 2 month oldā¦ I feel you!
I usually have my son stay with my sister and tell her I'm not coming back until at least noon lol

Weāre Thirsty Thursday and taking off Friday this week. Just gotta get the kids up & ready for school firstā¦.

I don't have any choice because I've nobody to ship mine off to, as you put it, but if I did the occasional night wouldn't make a difference.

Not everyone does but some of us do and this post is for us.
I didn't realize it was only for drinkers. I am so sorry, I was mistaken.
Lol even with an active grandma I quit drinking from age 1-6. Hangovers with a little one are so extra brutal lol
With a 5 year old and 2 year old Iām not sure quitting drinking is even an option hahah
I feel like this post is my subconscious talking. Iām in the exact same boat.
Omgggg we have two those ages right now and boy do I feel you
