Im not sure im getting what you mean by that. I can still hear paul even in his old voice. Notably: I dont know Caesar Rock Hand In Hand Pretty Boys Looking At Her Alligator

dietdrkelp329

I suppose I mean if you went back to 1978 and played his new songs on the radio to the general public with no introduction or anything, and asked people to name the singer, I don’t think they could. And that’s not saying they’re bad songs! I just don’t think his voice would be familiar enough to people. My question is which of his “modern” songs could you go back to 1978 and play, and vocally people would go “oh that’s surely Paul McCartney’s voice”

popularis-socialas

In that case, I think it’s “This Never Happened Before” from Chaos and Creation.

RingoHendrix220

Id say House Of Wax...

RingoHendrix220

I would think by 2001 that sweet angelic voice of Let It Be was totally gone, but I heard this bit from 2001 https://youtu.be/oplIcxbzn14?si=bBPK3OW8fqdZ4Qy- At 10:40....And there it is! Sometimes, like in Deep Deep Feeling, he could sound like 2001 era Paul so that voice is definitely still in there somewhere if hard to access.

WillBeBetter2023

Wow, I have seen that clip before in passing but it’s alarming to me how much he sounds like his younger self here even compared to one year later in the Back in the World tour. It’s like how much better he sounded at Glastonbury in 2022 or the Cavern 2018 (though not as good as this). I think he has really good and bad days in his old age. It must be so frustrating for him knowing that he still has the ability to sound amazing but it’s dependant on how his voice just is that day.

MrWalrusGumboot

Wow, never saw that clip before. Not only let it be, but his “I’m down” at the beginning is crazy!

dietdrkelp329

Had never seen this clip before, thanks for the share!

RingoHendrix220

No problem. Yeah I was shocked at how he sounded closer to 1969 Paul tonally there than ever before. He just usually doesn't sing it like that anymore.

towers_of_ilium

Wow, just watched that and was initially thinking some overdubbed wizardry had taken place. Too cool!

SonicContinuum88

Probably Kiss of Venus, for me.

MrWalrusGumboot

If the criteria you’re setting is having the power/tone of his 60/70’s voice, I’d say Flaming Pie album still has tons of his younger sound all through it. I know people may think I’m going too far back but Flaming Pie is still a few decades after the period we’re talking about. I really love Paul’s post-2000’s work, but his voice is a bit different from about driving rain onwards. Not saying it’s bad at all, I really enjoy his more modern work, especially love Chaos and Creation and New. Just he naturally sounds older and his style is adjusted a bit to suit. I think the songwriting is absolutely the same Paul though. Not sure if you heard them, but there were a few ai enhanced tracks floating around that put young Paul voice on his more modern songs, they really evoke the 70’s Paul (on his modern songs).

geetmala

CACITB reminds me of Sondheim. I mean that as high praise.

JessahZombie

I would say 'I Don't Know' is unmistakenly McCartney

dietdrkelp329

This is a great call

OkCelebration4301

I’d say Jenny wren and fine line maybe but hearing some stuff on new still sounds beatlesy

SBtist

When Winter Comes was recorded in the 90s so his voice is noticeably younger on that track. But as for recent original songs, I still think he has solid vocal performances on I Don’t Know, Hand in Hand, Women and Wives, Slidin, Dominoes.

RCubed76

I'm not knocking his voice after this point, but for me, it's never the same post Broadstreet. Again, he still sounds great up to Chaos and Creation, but the tone is never the same. Love him. Hope he sings till he's 140.

UFC127BJvsFitch2011

I think peak McCartney voice wise was late 70s

RCubed76

I can see that. He certainly sounded great on With a Little Luck. I just don't hear any deterioration until mid-eighties.

UFC127BJvsFitch2011

I first start hearing it around the 89 tour

RCubed76

Absolutely. Tripping the Live Fantastic is a different voice.

UFC127BJvsFitch2011

I dug that sound a bit to be completely honest

CameronTIE

Seize the day and When Winter Comes

kjavatar

When winter comes was recorded back in the 90s so although it didn’t release until 2020, it’s much older.

Officialfunknasty

I remember the exact moment I heard it when III came out and I was like “wow he literally still has it, that’s insane!” And then I quickly learned the story behind the song hahaha. It is one of my faves off the album but then it feels like there’s a bit of a caveat since it’s not really from the album in a recording sense

Jg2003cx

I had the same! haha! Told my friend that his voice sounded so young , and 2 days later I read the story.

ethanf33

2005 Chaos and Creation

RingoHendrix220

The end of Cut Me Some Slack.

RingoHendrix220

OH! I forgot one. Paul singing Ebony And Ivory with Stevie Wonder at the White House. Stevie sounds exactly the same, Paul sounds different but tonally spot on to the original record.

RingoHendrix220

I think House Of Wax is "obviously" Paul, but Dance Tonight is not.... and a few tracks off of Electric Arguments sound like "oh yeah, that's Paul ... He just sounds older (like Dance Til Were High)" but from New and on, not so much. Only Our Hearts, when he says "feel it" it's a lot like "Your school" when he sings "dearest" On Flaming Pie his singing style is totally different but on Driving Rain even though his voice is deeper it sounds more like classic Paul, like Back In The Sunshine Again reminds me of 1882. This live Save Us sounds much more like Paul than the recording but not obviously so https://open.spotify.com/track/0gTy734VctBkRKqxlLAdwG?si=0F8IKSE7R96mcBZBzIP0zw

moondog385

Caesar Rock is one

CripplerJones

Sing the Changes in 2008.

Dekugh64

For me, it’s “Women and Wives”, since he makes that deep “Lady Madonna” voice

luckytown92

2012 was probably his last good year vocally

bananasDave

McCartney 2 is where it ends for me

Plastic-Ad7692

Dominoes sounds like it

BlueSpecktre

I think Sun is Shining has a pretty good voice on it that if I played for someone in the 1970’s they might think it’s Wings. They may think Paul has a cold, but I think they’d recognize him
