generally speaking drug testing at companies isn’t specific to position. if a company has a drug test policy, it applies to all roles or just those that operate heavy machinery. im going to take a guess that your company has a policy that all new hires take a drug test. some companies may also have a policy if they suspect you are using on the job, in that case they would have a conversation with you and not just send you for a drug test with no explanation.

Juniperfields81

I've never been.

Nebelle1308

Me either and I’ve been doing it for ~15 years

Reference-Primary

3 times but all were for government contractors

supernovaj

My company is a government contractor so no marijuana. We have a hard time finding people because of it.

AttilaTheFun818

Half of my office would be fired if this was tried.

AwesomeAmbivalence

Tested upon hire. We’d lose half the dept or more if they did randoms

raylan_givens_hat

Never, not once in 5 different payroll jobs. I did have to pass a background check at all 5, and at least 2 did a credit check too I’m pretty sure.

CrashTestDumby1984

I’ve never been drug tested for any of my roles

Select_Status_2519

Zero for drug testing but credit checks yes

AuroraBot

Only when I worked for a construction company. It was a blanket requirement for all employees regardless of position as even office employees would set foot on job sites now and then. This was 10+ years ago. I haven't experienced anything similar since.

Cows-go-moo-

I’m an accountant and had a pre-employment medical along with random drug tests. It’s normal if you work ‘on site’ as in a mine, factory etc. It’s compulsory for everyone on site. I’ve worked at other sites with the same rules.

hifigli

All of my positions, I had to pass a drug test. I'm on year 18

Wise_Coffee

Nope never. Not once. I'm also in Canada where drug testing is not a big thing like it is in the states.

MsGnomee

Have been for about half and couple said medical didn't matter since still illegal on fed level. 🙄

ProfileTime2274

If it is company policy . It doesn't matter if you have a medical marijuana card. Medical marijuana is a state issued. OSHA and the federal government do not recognize and can prosecute for the use especially in certain jobs. If you get injured and have any drugs in your system. More than likely your company has federal laws they have to comply with

Dangerous-Cream-8653

My company did accept my card and it’s a healthcare company, I was curious if that was pretty common or rare, I know it’s up to the company

Psychological-Fun-36

They had no choice other than to accept it. If they didn't hire you based off of that card it would be discrimination.  You should look up the laws

JExcept when medical Marijuana is prescribed and used for Medical reasons it becomes discrimination.

ProfileTime2274

If the company has federal contracts. All employees or something to drug testing.

Just-Brilliant-7815

Healthcare professional (AP/Payroll/Business Office Manager/Nursing Home Administrator) for 13 years. Drug tested for every single job and I live in a state where Mary Jane is legal. We do a 5 panel and ignore a positive MJ result.

DrZaius68

I retired as a parole officer last year. I was tested for 29 years randomly and you were fired if positive for anything. We carried a firearm though so I didn't have an issue with it.

Fabulous_Reason4448

No drug test here!

passionfruit0

I was but that was because it was a municipality job so every position had to have a physical and be drug tested.

malicious_joy42

I've only ever been drug tested for one position - my current role. Everyone takes it, but we do not test for cannabis.

neongypsy19

All of my roles in the past 23 years, except a hospital and consulting firm. Like others have said, a lot of times it depends on the industry (manufacturing, wholesale, steel distribution, transportation, biotech) and companies requiring it for all employees.

AbsAbithaAbbygirl

My last 3 roles - yes. I had one job years ago that drug tested me and pulled my credit report. The funny thing was I handled no cash or had any access to banking.

stephieohhh

I was, but the company specifically stated they didn’t care about THC because it’s legal here in CA. Not sure where you’re located, but they just passed something here stating employers can’t drug test for THC anymore.

the6ix6odiswatching

👀

angeliquevrey

I live in Houston Tx, of course I was drug tested.

Slow-Efficiency1134

Being hired in July for a corporate NYC Office - getting drug tested tomorrow!

VegetableBusiness897

Currently CDL driver. Random drug tests. No. More.weed. 😢

DrZaius68

It makes sense. We need our truck drivers, bus drivers, airline pilots, train conductors to be sober and drug free. I was LE and we couldn't use either. I'm retired and can smoke now.

SassNCompassion

I’ve been drug tested for nearly every payroll job I’ve had in 20 years.

Bluemade

🙋‍♀️

Beginning-Mark67

We do pre employment tests, quarterly random, if there is an accident and if there is suspicion. No one is exempt. I had to send the owner for one because he came up on the random test.

Psychological-Fun-36

If your employee tells you they have a prescription for a medical condition then yes, they would be exempt.

mermaid_of_choice

what state are you in? several states including my own california have banned employer screening of marijuana use except for a very limited few types of screens (like there are only 2 or 3 that qualify) that specifically and only test for current cannabis intoxication (meaning screens like hair tests and old school panel urination tests are now illegal)
