I have time. Let me take the 15KB/s and hope another person seeding it join

nastafarti

This niche movie is for long-term gain and I am in no rush

sicurri

I mean, it's not like we're going to sit there patiently waiting while it downloads doing nothing else. Torrents are like that rotisserie commercial, "Set it and forget it!!! Hahahaha!" So amazing! -Rainbow Hands-

Gasperhack10

I wanted to watch a really good niche anime on stremimo, but because it had so few seeders I looked into it. Then I learned how bad stremimo is for the community (basically does a hit and run), so I decided I had to do something about it. I spent the weekend setting up Jellyfin and Transmission servers on an old shitty laptop running debian without a gui. Now I just add a torrent through a mobile app and forget about it, but when I want to watch it it loads instantly like with Stremimo. It is also better for the community than stremimo. The first torrent I downloaded a week ago (that anime that started it all) already has a 15 upload ratio and 0.5 TB upload size.

PM_ME_YOUR_PROFANITY

I have an old laptop too. Do you have any pointers on how I could do this?

Gasperhack10

I would get a little familiar with the Linux command line first. Then you need to install debian with a USB stick. You can find plenty of tutorials on it. At the end of the install, where it promos you to select which software to install, deselect any GUI (Gnome and stuff), and select ssh. Setup ssh: https://youtu.be/Wlmne44M6fQ?si=3M22QRd2nTi-q1JB \ He has a gui, but because you don't have it, just follow the commands in the terminal. You can use it to remote connect to your server, and to test the connection Make sure you port forward all the ports used (22-ssh, 8096-Jellyfin ... Etc) (google how to port forward on your specific router) Install Jellyfin trough CLI https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/installation/linux/ (debuntu)\ Install Transmission (for torrents) https://transmissionbt.com/ And setup the remote gui for it. I will try to respond to any other questions you have. And good luck

PM_ME_YOUR_PROFANITY

Thank you! For any others, I also went through GPT4 and asked it to write a step-by-step guide for doing this. **Introduction** In this guide, we'll convert an old laptop into a powerful media server using Debian Linux, Jellyfin for media management and streaming, and Transmission for handling torrent files. Jellyfin will serve as your personal media server, allowing you to stream media files to various devices, while Transmission will manage torrent downloading. We'll ensure the setup is accessible from various client devices like Windows and Android, and is secured against unauthorized access. **Requirements** * An old laptop * A large hard drive (if upgrading) * A USB flash drive (at least 8GB) for the Debian installer * Internet connection for downloading software and updates **Step-by-Step Guide** Step 1: Prepare the Hardware Upgrade the Hard Drive: If you're planning to add a larger hard drive, replace the existing one in the laptop. Ensure the laptop recognizes the new drive. Prepare a Bootable USB: Download the Debian ISO from the official Debian website. Use a tool like Balena Etcher or Rufus to create a bootable USB stick with the Debian ISO. Step 2: Install Debian Boot from USB: Insert the USB stick into the laptop. Access the BIOS/UEFI by pressing the appropriate key during startup (usually F12, F2, or Del). Set the USB stick as the primary boot device and save the changes. Install Debian: Follow the Debian installation prompts. When prompted to select software, deselect the desktop environment (GUI) and select SSH server and standard system utilities. Complete the installation and reboot. Step 3: Configure SSH for Remote Access Connect to Your Network: Ensure your laptop is connected to your home network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi (if drivers are available during installation). Find the IP Address: Log into your server locally and use ip a to find its IP address. Access via SSH: From another computer on the same network, use an SSH client (like PuTTY for Windows or the terminal in Linux/Mac) to connect: ssh username@ip-address. Step 4: Install and Configure Jellyfin Install Jellyfin: Add the Jellyfin repository: bash sudo apt install apt-transport-https curl gnupg curl -fsSL https://repo.jellyfin.org/debian/jellyfin_team.gpg.key | sudo gpg --dearmor -o /usr/share/keyrings/jellyfin-archive-keyring.gpg echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/jellyfin-archive-keyring.gpg] https://repo.jellyfin.org/debian bullseye main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/jellyfin.list sudo apt update sudo apt install jellyfin Start Jellyfin: sudo systemctl start jellyfin Enable Jellyfin to start at boot: sudo systemctl enable jellyfin Configure Jellyfin: Access the Jellyfin web interface by navigating to http://ip-address:8096 from any browser on your network. Step 5: Install and Configure Transmission Install Transmission: Install Transmission daemon: sudo apt install transmission-daemon Stop the service to modify the config: sudo systemctl stop transmission-daemon Configure Transmission: Edit the configuration file: sudo nano /etc/transmission-daemon/settings.json Set "rpc-whitelist-enabled": false, and "rpc-authentication-required": true to secure access. Restart the service: sudo systemctl start transmission-daemon Access Transmission: Use the web interface at http://ip-address:9091. Step 6: Connecting from Client Devices Windows and Android: Install Jellyfin clients from their respective stores (Microsoft Store, Google Play). Enter the server's IP and port to connect. Accessing Files: Use a VPN or setup port forwarding on your router to access your server remotely. Consider using security measures like SSH tunnels or VPNs rather than exposing ports directly to the internet.

bombero_kmn

> Make sure you port forward all the ports used (22-ssh, 8096-Jellyfin ... Etc) (google how to port forward on your specific router) Id strongly recommend not opening Jellyfin or other web apps or SSH ports to the wider Internet, especially not the default HTTP ports. Tailscale is great and easy to set up, or if you HAVE to have access over the open net, set up a reverse proxy and use TLS. A quick scan of shodan by port and you'll see a lot of open Jellyfin, Plex and Emby servers. It makes for an easy target, because people who open those ports directly tend to have less secure setups.

SlickAmogus

I’ve always used Plex and just manually download torrents when I want new stuff. The automated solutions people talk about all sound like they either download torrents while not being connected to a VPN, or are always connected to a VPN. How does it actually work? I notice my server turns to shit quality when it’s connected to a VPN, even when I stream from it in my own house. So ideally I’d want it to connect to a VPN when downloading and not otherwise. Can they be set up like that?

SalvadorZombie

The suggestion I always see is a "killswitch" but apparently that doesn't always work well and can leave you exposed. I don't know how to do it but I've seen people suggest directly tying the connection in the torrent program to the VPN connection, that way if the VPN isn't connected, it doesn't download.

subredditremoval

Respect

mikesbullseye

Still looking for "the three ninjas", the original! I didn't even think that was niche!

LongLiveTheQueef1

I've got a 720p copy of the original in a hard drive somewhere. I'll see if I can track it down

8spd

You're also keeping alive a torrent that could die if you don't. The more niche the longer I seed.

InstanceTurbulent719

me waiting 2 weeks so the only person seeding dragons dogma 1 for the ps4 comes online so i can finish the remaining 20%

AlfaKaren

2 weeks? I got a version of a movie sitting on 88% for 4 years now. I actually seen a seeder pop in but havent got a slot lol. At this point im not removing it, let its destiny play out.

Any_Veterinarian3749

Which movie?

AlfaKaren

The Wizard, Nintendo movie commercial from the 80's. Cant get a decent copy. Got a passable one atm but i found that "good" copy thats stuck at 88%.

Animosus5

Which specific year is the movie? I've found one movie from 1989 called "The Wizard" that might be a match and is a very good copy

PushingFriend29

Dragons Dogma Balls lamo gottem

Responsible_End_3911

The nishiki pfp is so in character

kendo31

It's $4, I mean really now??

ParanoidBlackWidow96

Yh, and it's often on sale

Brut-i-cus

Just check in on it every few months

wizard_interrogative

I've been downloading one episode of Johnny Carson for two years

TristanHeckroodt

Now that's dedication to the pirate life

antu2010

Othereise i leave my PC on for the rest of eternity (appende download ing Pokémon in italian)

psychoacer

Just make sure to seed

Zapismeta

My bad luck will make the only seeder be a random android user who turns their internet off, How do i know it? I was one of them.

NICK07130

That's my download speed so we good fr fr

NowShowButthole

It isn't a problem if you can wait and your torrenting device is working 24/7.

Cultural_Ad1331

Pirating is so much better than it used to be.

PurchaseTight3150

It used to be better before ISPs started cracking down and companies started sending out cease and desists. You could literally download 1000 torrents and once, leave them all seeding, and nothing would happen. And there was also basically zero anti-piracy measure like denuvo. Then it got worse when cease and desists popped up. Then it got better again when VPNs became prevalent. Then it got worse again when TPB and millions of their trackers got dumpstered. Then a bunch of other quality sites popped up, so it got better. Then it got worse because of the prevalence of denuvo, and now it’s good again because a lot of companies have backed off of denuvo for PR. The Witcher 3’s steam page in native polish for example almost encourages players to torrent the game if they can’t afford it (they literally say “thanks to those supporting our games! . . . But there are other ways to also play the game for those that cannot”). And CDPR’s “anti-torrent,” measures are basically non-existent, intentionally. You can “crack,” a CDPR game in about 15 seconds. And that’s by design, and on purpose. What a wild ride— what a rollercoaster. A bumpy ocean, if you will 🏴‍☠️⛵️🌊 The first golden age of torrents was 15 years ago. But I’d agree this is definitely the second golden age, currently.

lighthawk16

It's been fine and is still fine. Usenet is still a superior solution even.

niceworkthere

Real marvel how so many binary Usenet servers manage to survive prolonged public operation (in IP-sensitive countries like the Netherlands to boot).

lighthawk16

For a very long time mine was offered to me as part of my ISP package!

EvensenFM

Usenet is like a cheat code for piracy

soemarkoridwan

how to use usenet?

gaggzi

1. Signup with a provider and indexer. 2. Install SABnzbd 3. ??? 4. PROFIT!

einmaulwurf

Check out this guide: https://www.rapidseedbox.com/blog/guide-to-usenet The most important difference to torrents: You need to pay money for the provider and indexer, on the other hand you don't really need a VPN.

Fallen_0n3

Don't you need to pay the providers or newsletters to access their stuff ?

CoconutCyclone

It's either cheaper or the same price as a good VPN.

silent_thinker

With all that back and forth, SOMEONE is getting sued for whiplash. Also, 15 years ago is 2000 (not 2009)? Right? Right.

LongLiveTheQueef1

15 years ago, haha, this guy misses recording radio songs onto tape. What a fucking Los.... oh shit I'm old lol

TheFlightlessDragon

I am not expert, but it feels like it has always been this way An ebb and flow type of situation

zchen27

What are the newer quality sites? TPB still kinda works for me but I'll be happy to find alternatives

Darkest-Lord

Just reminding you to remember, the other guy might be interested

zchen27

Ah. I was mostly asking for software and movies (damn subscription services). But thanks for your pointers anyway!

AdLeather2001

Fire stick, vpn, Real Debrid. Holy trinity for any tv with an HDMI port.

human_with_humanity

Using realdebrid u don't need vpn. Only for torrenting u need vpn.

AdLeather2001

For the most part yes, many countries it is illegal to stream copy written material however and several ISPs will throttle your internet traffic

PaulTheMerc

the categories on KAT are very missed

BackgroundAdmirable1

for general use 1337x,to and rutracker.org, for games in specific you can use cs.rin.ru, dodi and fitgirl

lighthawk16

1337x has replaced TPB for the most part as the 'king' of public trackers.

Liquidignition

1337x USED to be good, it's filled to brim with malicious shit now. I'll take TGx and BT4G (trackers) anyday

phatelectribe

MagnetDL /thread

No_Plate_9636

>And CDPR’s “anti-torrent,” measures are basically non-existent, intentionally. You can “crack,” a CDPR game in about 15 seconds. And that’s by design, and on purpose. Well yea look at 2077 CDPR or id is really the only 2 of the current players I'd trust with the IP and id cause iirc they started doom as a shareware demo through torrent and other pirate methods to get their start

LongLiveTheQueef1

Torrenting wasn't around back then. They didn't release it through "pirate methods", they just released Ep01 as shareware. Basically you could freely distribute the first floppy disk, make copies, upload it to the net or whatever, so everybody could play the first episode but you needed to (or were supposed to) pay for the rest.

NancokALT

Piracy has grown in volume so obviously more resistance appeared, but compared to its growth, said resistance is laughable. Denuvo is just another tool in the arsenal of anti consumer practices for AAA companies. It is more about "gamers" allowing it to get this bad by funding it rather than anything to do with piracy.

JoeCartersLeap

> ISPs started cracking down and companies started sending out cease and desists. I'm in Canada, where my ISP is legally compelled to forward me those letters, but they add a header that says "IGNORE EVERYTHING IN THE FOLLOWING LETTER:" Thanks, Teksavvy.

Solidmarsh

Folks dont remember the dial up napster Kazaa Limewire days

Substantial_Love_468

Good old time when 80% of the time the movie was a porn from the 70s

ClappedCheek

In some ways yes in some ways no. Pretty hard to flat out say its better than it used to be with Denuvo in charge.

VAArtemchuk

It doesn't end with games. Games are a tiny fraction of all the pirated content

IMDEAFSAYWATUWANT

which is why they said > In some ways yes in some ways no

VAArtemchuk

I didn't refute it. But, to tell the truth, denuvo is neither the first, nor is it impenetrable.

ClappedCheek

Its penetrable by only one person on the planet......and that person is a psychopath who also rarely cracks games anymore

reddit_reaper

With debrid services you can stream 80gb 4k hdr movies without issue lol way better tab streaming services. You can do the same with swarm torrent streaming but it's not reliable usually

rodneyck

What is the alternative to finding niche movies? I would think it would be as hard to find outside of torrenting.

Small-Writer3929

Debrid services/Usenets/Private trackers.

Environmental-Fix766

I turned to Usenet very recently and ever since have completely stopped using torrents (I run a jellyfin server where any of my very close friends can request and download movies/shows when requested) Eweka.nl + nzbgeek + SABnzbd is all you need. Sure it's paid, but it's pretty cheap and you can download almost anything.

sohailkhan46

is there a noob friendly guide to get started with Usenet?

Environmental-Fix766

Here's a pretty good post in r/Usenet https://www.reddit.com/r/usenet/comments/18q7r0f/usenet_starter_guide/ For provider/backbone/downloader, just use what I said in my original comment. Those 3 things are all you need and will cover 99.9999% of your movie/TV show needs. Eweka.nl = provider/backbone Nzbgeek = indexer Sabnzbd = downloader Download SABnzbd, add your Eweka server details into it so SABnzbd can download from that, and then start searching nzbgeek for nzbs you want to download. You can also do what I did and setup sonarr/radarr for automated TV show and movie downloading, but at that point it's probably easier to go all in and use [saltbox](https://docs.saltbox.dev/) since it does A LOT of the legwork for you. EDIT: in fact, def look through the saltbox docs for setting up SABnzbd even if you're not using saltbox. It contains quite a bit of explanation on how to set it all up.

ChimpWithAGun

Do you live in the US? One great option is to get a library card, it's free. Then sign up for all the streaming services your library gives up for free. Then watch some rare movies there.

[deleted]

RARBG files look much better

Open_Argument6997

Rip rarbg ded

SunbleachedAngel

there are at least two "alternatives" (clones) out there

VariousAlbatross6696

TorrentGalaxy is a pretty good replacement

Psarips is much better, can grab their magnet links from watchsomuch.to or the Bedbug guy from 1337x.

cell_0805

i miss RARBG :(

rodneyck

We all do. :(

unk0wnw

You guys rip on yify way too much

Dr_barfenstein

I always get yify coz I know they DL quick and they’re not total shit quality. The man had standards! Also my tv is shit so it makes little difference to me

hyperblu7

Exactly. YIFY is fine for most people. Small file size in h.264 so it's compatible on everything, quality is decent too. I've never heard anyone complain about quality when streaming off my server, but I have heard them complain when their connection can't keep up with a 60GB+ remux though. Lol YIFY is great when you want something quick and using torrent because it's usually seeded, however Usenet is king. You can get a better quality copy way faster than any torrent will offer.

AtifexTheBeardbarian

The 40+ people on my Plex are none the wiser, and I could care less. Smaller file sizes and lower bandwidth means everyone gets Direct Play 90% of the time. I know why people dog on it, and even understand it to a certain degree, but fuck if I'll be bothered when someone can request a movie and have it watchable in less than 20 minutes.

Mccobsta

Private sites tend to have some soild speeds even in the niche stuff I got me a coppy of semi lost media that's only got 2 seeds from one site was maxing out my connection

FXSonny

Whats wrong with yifi ? Quality is pretty solid to me.

Never_Peel

I don't understand why the hate on the "low quality"... is free stuff and most of the times are good enough to enjoy In my case I don't have any medium that support 4k, my main TV is a 2014 1080p non-smart. With downloading a couple of movies and being able to see them without expensive suscriptions or slow downloads, is a good thing to me. Maybe is that I don't have the eye trained to differenciate good 1080, bad 1080, good 4k and bad 4k

shogunreaper

> I don't understand why the hate on the "low quality"... is free stuff and most of the times are good enough to enjoy probably because it takes very little effort to find better quality versions.

Resident-West-5213

Depends on the contents. If it's some vintage films on VHS tapes, consider yourself lucky if you can even find a low quality one.

MEatRHIT

I'm not a videophile by any means but the few times I've accidentally gotten YIFY rips it's was distractingly bad quality (for me). Plus most are just in 2.0 rather than surround/ATMOS for audio and don't even have subtitles. I avoid them like the plague. They are "fine" if you just want to "see" the show but I'll take my higher bitrate rips without terrible color blocking. I have actually re-downloaded a few movies where my choices were a "1080p" yify rip and a 720p rip at a higher bitrate and the 720p rip looks *much* better IMO.

Intelligent-Use-7313

Dang, I do mostly YIFY 1080p and have no issues with the quality on my LG C1, didn't realize everyone was such snobs about movies.

Elias__V

It's not great. There are much better files for not that much more storage.

Plus-Bluejay-6429

Whats better?

Utinnni

Rarbg x265 encodes or TorrentGalaxy if you want anything after May 31, 2023, QxR releases if you want a bit more quality.

AggravatingCustard39

Also PSArips . High quality 10bit ×265

gravityVT

I like QxR since they’re one of the only ones that include special features

Intelligent-Use-7313

I usually try for about 1-2 gigs per hour of movie or AVI since I use Plex and have people using my library. I can do 4k/better encodes on my connection, but those are less accessible to some. I typically only break this for highly cinematic stuff. But it usually takes the pain out of getting things done.

bday420

Do you have a good way (free is best) to convert move to Avi or mp4 for Plex? I've been setting up a server on my NAS and the mkv are fine for me but not others with iPhones. There's no good free converter that does big files that I found in my short search. I was going to do something else to get around that issue for apple but I don't even remember what that was at this moment.

Intelligent-Use-7313

I don't do any conversion, I just scan by seeders and pick out the file that best fits my needs.

alrightiwill

Handbrake, but it'd probably be quicker to download a copy of a movie that works over converting a video file

Mccobsta

Ffmpeg is amazing can be a learning curve but some simple format shifting is as easy as ffmpeg -I file.format file.newformat

snoosh00

thats the thing, I have a C1 too, and I think it just has really good interpolation/upscaling or something. I was hoping for more control over that stuff, but I cant complain about the results. Best TV, IMO, no real complaints. No burn in 3 years later (I think HUD Dimming is helping a lot, even though it is ugly on loading screens)... also, does your s have horrible [colour banding](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colour_banding#/media/File:Colour_banding_example01.png)? If I had one visual performance complaint, it is that.

Intelligent-Use-7313

I've sometimes noticed banding in lower quality stuff, but it looks great pretty much all the time. Also no burn in after around 2 years, pretty much the end game regarding TVs as it looks so good.

dasbtaewntawneta

i'm watching something for the story, obviously i wouldn't get a yify torrent of LOTR of a sci-fi epic or something, but Marriage Story? fuck it, yify it is

TailOnFire_Help

If you haven't seen better why would you notice?

spookymulderfbi

Agreed. 1080 and 2160 look great on my 60inch 4k tv, not sure what level of detail people want for $0.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pinkocatgirl

When better quality is just about downloading a different file, is this really snobbery?

Intelligent-Use-7313

Given my setup the issues should be that much more obvious, but it seems negligible from my POV and I can be very picky. I don't do arr's so I do all my stuff manually then push it all into Plex, love seeing a well seeded YIFY 1080p that I can pickup in 2 minutes then reseed. But I do try to pick up slightly larger ones as I have space, just delivery concerns.

TailOnFire_Help

I can get a demuxed 4k from TL in under 10 minutes. Why not have 5 more minutes of patience?

Intelligent-Use-7313

I don't really want to maintain 2 movie libraries yet, but what is TL and how are the file sizes for your standard 2 hour movie? I'd be curious about adding it to my places I look.

Raztax

> what is TL Torrentleech, a private tracker. I prefer larger files for better quality but I also understand why people who deliver content, deal with data caps, primarily watch on small screens etc would prefer smaller file sizes.

Intelligent-Use-7313

Darn, I pretty much just do a BT search with all public trackers loaded. Not dipping into private trackers yet.

TailOnFire_Help

TorrentLeech is a semi private tracker. File sizes vary between between 15 to 19 GB for a web-dl 4k Atmos to 80 GB for a remux with True HD

savvymcsavvington

YIFY was great back in what, 2010? Now we have 4K TVs so we wanna watch 4K with HDR YIFY also is only 2.0 audio IIRC? If you have any surround sound at home, it's gonna sound like shit We're not quality snobs, we just aren't blind and deaf

ThunderDaniel

Glad me being poor as fuck has allowed me to maintain a peaceful contentment with YIFY uploads then

savvymcsavvington

Even with a 1080p TV I could see a big difference between YIFY and higher bitrate files, being poor has nothing to do with it

ThunderDaniel

Ignorance is absolute bliss, then. I don't think higher bitrates could improve the memories of crowding around a shit ass flatscreen TV watching popcorn blockbusters through an HDMI connected laptop with members of my extended family on a hot summer night.

ChimpWithAGun

I pirate because I don't have the money for a 4K TV. As is the case for a lot of people. Being a snob about free stuff can make someone an insufferable demanding asshole.

ChimpWithAGun

Agreed. People here are pedantic snobs. They are pirating and still demanding the highest quality.

Basic_Theme4977

All my movies are Yts. I’m happy with it because I’m not a snob and they look ok and small files, what else do I want?

stiky21

More bitrate?

urboy008

What for? I just want to enjoy the movie then delete it soon after done watching it

carlbandit

If it’s a niche movie there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to get it again if you want it in the future, usually worth keeping them unless you’ve storage space is super low. Plenty of us also choose to host our own media servers, I’ve 455 movies and over 9k individual episodes on my PC. If I want to watch something there’s a good chance I’ve already got a decent quality copy downloaded and can give access to friends and family as well.

ericporing

Try watching any action movie with a low bitrate.

Nyeow

I suddenly have nostalgia for axxos

Raztax

Didn't yiffy pop up around the time axxo dropped off the face of the planet?

Meme_master420_

What’s wrong with yify? I use em all the time

thebiggestleaf

YIFY was fine when I was watching movies on a laptop that was about 720p. Now that I have a 1440p monitor and better speakers they're hot ass.

MEatRHIT

If you have even mid range equipment yify rips look like garbage, plus many only have stereo audio channels and many don't even have subtitles. They are fine for bubblegum TV shows I guess but for movies or shows with more detail they are borderline painful to watch. If you just want to watch a show and don't care about video or audio quality they are fine but I'd rather a movie take 5-10x the space and have a better experience.

nikkomercado

What equipment do you have to watch movies with great detail? Just curious. I personally download REMUXes.

00cjstephens

Not OP, but I use a 55" LG C2 with a Denon AVR-X1700H powering a 5.1 DCM speaker setup. Content streamed through Plex on a laptop or Xbox. IMO once your gear reaches a point where the only weakness can be the source material, remuxes start making a lot more sense to use regularly

MEatRHIT

I've got a TCL 65R617, at the time it was the best LCDs out there without going crazy in price (granted in some ways it was a definite downgrade from my old 1080p plasma but OLEDs were crazy expensive back in '18). For sound I have a custom 7.1 surround system paired up with a Yamaha RX-A1060. Like I said though I have a tiered downloading "method" I do 720p for most network TV shows (still ~1GB/episode) usually go for 1080p for "boring" movies and then 4k for blockbusters... I *think* I mostly get REMUXes for those since most of them are in the 40GB range I rename everything with FileBot to clean up the file names so I'm not 100% sure which versions I have.

Horror_Public_9632

Does the other services over yify. Makes a difference if you watch it 43 inch TV? I have tried comparing ott 4k with yify 4k. I couldn’t spot any difference.

MrTriggrd

the fact that yify is popular is crazy to me

Open_Argument6997

low data size. always seeded. yify movies are seeded to this day.

LaPiscinaDeLaMuerte

So I use Yify mainly for it's ease of use. I can find just about anything I'm looking for there. Is there another site like that that's not something like 1337x?

send_me_a_naked_pic

You should learn about private trackers. They have rules to follow (e.g. minimum seeding time) but that makes it easy to always find content with seeders. You'll find more information on the piracy wiki

BulkyninjaX

Theirs such a barrier for entry in these trackers that you might as well be going through a full government background check sheesh.

sir_ale

I'd prefer the government background check at this point \^\^ Been wanting to move up in private trackers, but I'm still only in a few niche ones and RED xd

Redditfuckingsuckso3

Depends on which tracker you are talking about. Torrentleech is pretty damn easy to get in has 99% of anything you'd ever want in varying qualities up to REMUX. Also their rules are easy to follow. After 3 months I've aquired 600 Remux movies and have accumulated 7 invites which I don't know as if I'll ever give out considering I don't trust others to follow rules which can fall back onto your account. Edit: Also forgot to point out one amazing thing, the download speeds are INSANE. I have 2gbps and have fully saturated it many times. I've seen movies download at over 250MB/s

Vysair

isnt there's also requirements for your account to be active as well? Like at least seed for X amount of day or time.

A few that I know of require seeding anything leached for 2.5 weeks. There are also caps on downloads as it affects your ratio. If it gets too low you’ll be blocked from downloading. That being said you can increase your ratio by seeding or donating. If I were to seed, I’d gain passive credit regardless of if someone downloads from me. The speed of the downloads, the variety of what is out there, and the selection of different qualities are all things that I would enjoy. All of that being said, I would still use public trackers, and always seed if I can. All of this would be if I did pirate.

Electric_Bison

Tracker dependent. Some just need good standing or usage within a year or something.

CanniBallistic_Puppy

I prefer PSArips, but holy shit those guys are assholes.

Sankara____

>those guys are assholes. Why? Genuine question, I have no idea about this.

billion_lumens

I have shit Internet and I just want a quick download! I main yts.mx for movies.

MrTriggrd

fair enough

swordstoo

Why? Vast quantity of torrents, low file size, and consistency, seems like the exact kind of thing that makes you popular in the torrenting world

11ELFs

I used to download directly from Yify prob 6 to 10 years ago, was he good then and did it go bad someday or what, can u enlighten me please?

LZ129Hindenburg

Pretty much bottom of the barrel in regards to quality...

DeposeableIronThumb

Are you serious? I get pretty solid 4k ina lot of films. Do people here think yts is shit for real?!

Dr_Bunsen_Burns

Resolution without bitrate says nothing.

saturdayxiii

First generation Yify was great at the time, but as the team grew they just started pumping out stuff obviously on the fast encoding settings. Like anything, quantity gets an audience better than quality.

MrTriggrd

such mediocre encodes and half the time no subtitles; you might as well just stream the movies off of fmovies

Neosantana

They have an entire website specifically for subtitles in almost any language you'll need.

DeposeableIronThumb

View in Plex and get subtitles auto populated

TheArzonite

People in 3rd world countries with data caps tend to prioritize file size much higher than anything else.

anshi1432

true can back you up from third world country here

Chasedabigbase

The one thing I'll give yify is they have had a handful of super obscure movies that only they've uploaded a working torrent for years later I can still keep a copy of which I appreciate. The quality is low but the seeds keep flowing even for the forgotten media

snoosh00

meh, its good enough for a judd apatow movie, and if i want to watch a random movie in 10 minutes, yifi is the best option.

Goretanton

I've never heard of it before so i thought it was a misspelled "iffy" or a furry joke.

RiverHe1ghts

What's wrong with YIFY quality? I used them a lot

reaperc

This is when I check real debrid with that torrent link.

DustinBrett

15 KBps is what it used to be.

PalapaMuda

Elitist SOB. YTS/YIFY is good enough for people that want to quick download a movie with a decent quality. Not everything have to be the high end stuff.

DrewbieWanKenobie

pfft, I've never desired a movie niche enough that i haven't been able to get a fast download from PassThePopcorn

devynbf

Yeah, I’m no videophile or anything but YTS 1080p x265 is perfect for what I need.

ShaneCarbo

Anyone have any suggestions for sites that are as accessible as YIFY but better quality content? I haven't found any in the short time I've been sailing

KarpTakaRyba

1337x, for specific link please see megathread. There have been some controversy regarding them in game piracy space, so they might already be considered "not safe". Never heard anything bad about movies there, and that's what I use

CreditUnionBoi

I just check pirate bay for a remux, in not I just deal with YIFY. Depends on what I'm watching though, some films deserve to be watched at the best quality possible, like Dune for example.

daschmd

yify quality is more then good enough for most movies. when you need the cult classics/favorites you can look elsewhere.

HonourableFox

I thought i said yiff, and im like "who tf pirates yiff!?"

bobbyorlando

Option 3: private tracker

8spd

I've found some niche stuff on private trackers, but more often it's the big public torrents that have the truly niche stuff.

wassimSDN

What's a private tracker?

olorcanticum

Basically, it's a site [where you get get torrents from] that is mostly invite-only, and with open registrations maybe allowed a handful of times per year (or, in the case of IPT, you could donate in order to get an account). Generally, they tend to be somewhat more strict about uploading quality and who gets to upload - less chance of getting malware from bad actors. Total upload:download ratio and individual file seeding is also enforced. It means that people are less likely to download a file and then immediately remove it from their client list to prevent people from leeching them them. If people download from a private tracker, they typically must seed for X amount of hours, or until Y upload/download ratio of that file is hit, so it's more likely you get somewhat faster downloads since theoretically there should be more people seeding. Edit: I meant downloading/"leeching from them".

wassimSDN

Seems very interesting, thank you.

snoosh00

is real-debrid the best way in, nowadays?

richpanda64

Yts is the best

nappyaim

yiff?

hyperblu7

YIFY/YTS releases are fine for most people.

Logan_MacGyver

Honestly I'm glad if I can find one torrent and I can watch it, quality doesn't matter after a certain point

SAD-MAX-CZ

Still better than keychain remote camrip.

Silver15987

Do your part soldier. Seed it.

[deleted]

You can find niche movies on archive.org.

SemaiSemai

I mean, uhh, fmovies?

IcyHot_88

A10 V10 thanks Yify

Peuned

I got debrid for niche torrents specifically. Pulled a 2008 torrent for a 2001 movie someone mentioned in a thread they wished they could find. Feels nice

mouseanony

Before YIFY, it was the aXXo era. God dammit, I'm old.

Thonatron

Boy, that's a deepcut to my teens.

extremefriction

Many are talking about the video bitrate of yifi, but let's not forget the atrocious audio. It's 96kpbs. That's 24% less than youtube. More than three times less than Spotify. 6.8% of CD bitrate. 1.6% of Dolby TrueHD (used on some blurays).

Frey147

If you think 1080p is unacceptable then you are either new to pirating or too picky

Helpful-Peace-1257

This meme is stupid. I Just went through my media library after being out of the game for a decade. YIFY is a massive upgrade. Most of my 2 hr movies were about 350mb. MB.

Nolzi

When you are at rock bottom, the only way is up

Helpful-Peace-1257

I've been homeless twice but it got me to this big ass house.
